"2022 NBA Playoffs: Conf Semis (Part 3)"

Tobias Harris over ME?! © Butler.

"..Everybody expected Houston James Harden, but that's not who he is anymore..." © Embiid

Game 6 on deck means its win or go home for Boston and Memphis, both playing @ home.

Bucks vs Celtics
Warriors vs Grizzlies

Now that Philly has been fried, dyed, and laid to the side, who's next on that summer jam screen?

He’s done

Morey is the last thing he needs too. He’s a full blown Stan who won’t hold him accountable for shit

He isn’t of that cloth and they’re going to fuck around and waste Embiid’s prime if James Heartless shows up after that ink dries.

Crazy if GS blows the series cuz Kerr got COVID and it was put in Mike Brown's clearly incapable hands.

especially when the players are saying stuff like this:

didn't Mike Brown go undefeated the last time he replaced Kerr in the playoffs? now he's "incapable"?

Is it on him or is Steph choking?

5 current, former, and potential all stars (or all star level talent).

idc if an okp is coaching them.

they *should* close it out...but there is *no excuse* to not *at least* make it a dogfight.

if they lose this game...the series is over. *this* team aint winning in a hostile memphis against this ja-less grizz squad. they aint built for that.

anything in the paint

In the second half, those arms are going to be dead tired, and they won’t have the energy to defend down the stretch

But they're hitting 'em.

Giannis looks to be on a mission though. His offense was looking pretty bad (for him) in game 5 in the 2nd half when he was dead tired...he's definitely not expending as much energy despite having the bulk of the Bucks' points.

This one's shaping up to be another classic though - Bucks feel like they're getting almost every 50/50 ball

a boxer throwing tons of punches early in a fight, and then doesn’t
have the same pop later on. Legs get tired and arms get tired. That’s why
a layup is a high percentage shot. It doesn’t take a lot of effort if available.

Will the Celtics still have the energy to defend and make shots down the stretch?

Milwaukee intentionally gives up threes ...they want you to shoot your load. They make
no effort to defend the 3

Those arms and legs aren’t so fresh with 4 mins to go in the 4th...we shall see if those
same shots are falling.

Tatum has gone 7/14 from 3. They miraculously connected on their 3 point shots.
They will not do that two games in a row, their previous win was the same thing.

Bucks give you nothing else, so will Boston be able bomb away again?

Give them a pound and get them in Boston.
Bucks in seven.

My Jason Tatum agenda winning like crazy though.

when dudes put on weight...especially when they get that noticeable shoulder bulk...their stamina tends to take a hit.

that added muscle requires more blood/oxygen.

Only quarter I saw, from about 9:17 on, but it felt like Looney was all over the ball and everything centered on his effort

That sequence with the two offensive boards ending in a Klay three was a definitive "you might got next, but this is still US" possession

b/c this don't make no fucking sense.

they made that shit way harder than it needed to be. (taking NOTHING away from the grizz, they balled the fuck out, but all them damn unforced errors, man).

when they slowed down they did what they needed to do.

although that last sequence when steph had the long miss and loon got the rebound and kicked it to klay with a new 24 and he immediately shot that shit.

if that ain't a classic coach's "NOOO--YEAHHHH!!!" moment.

i don't know wtf klay be thinking sometimes. but game 6 klay was definitely needed to night. and 2nd half wigs. and mostly normal dray. and not completely off steph. (i swear he got a loose wire or a short or some shit. when shit connect, he unstoppable. but he's been just as likely to run cold this year... hope he brings his A game vs phx

good idea to start loon this game since mem was playing 2 bigs.

this warriors team been too unpredictable this year, but if their key players just shoot normal and they don't be on this 20 turnover shit, they should handle the suns. really need otto to heal up. and iggy to get back on the court.

and nobody else to catch covid.

and kerr to get back on the bench.

okay. that's a whole ass christmas list.

grizzlies are a problem, though.

I'm sure it's similar to being a Duke fan-- once your team's won so much, no one ever cares if you win anymore, only if you lose.

As long as Curry's there, in terms of reaction, it's all downside, no upside. You either win in silence or lose and get fried, lol.

Giannis and Holiday can’t do it all. They took the Celtics 7 game.

I think this might be a wrap.

If so, I’m riding the Heat to win it all

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

He is playing with some serious/solid ballers

In response to Reply # 128

>Dimwiddie was a 20/10 guy in Brooklyn.

No, he wasn’t. He had the 20, but 6.8 is pretty far below 10.

There’s rounding, and then there’s straight up dishonesty.

Moreover, it’s telling that you consistently refer to what he was two years ago, as though that’s what he is today- because he’s not.

Right now, he’s playing like a quality #3 scoring option, if the #1 and 2 are top heavy.

But let’s not pretend he’s even sniffing the likes of Klay, Booker (this ass whoopin be damned), or Brown, to say nothing of the rest of the teams in the playoffs.

Let’s look at the #2 options in these playoffs

-McCollum
-Middleton
-Klay/Poole
-Booker (depending in how you view the hierarchy of he and cp3)
-Brown
-Herro
-Harden

Shit, Siakam has a better ensemble cast around him than Luka has on the Mavs.

Spence hasn’t been anywhere near these guys on a day to day basis

We’ll see what he does from here, but as of now, that “two years ago!” argument has absolutely no merit for TODAY.

>Bullock was a starter for NY

Notice the generic terms. “Starter last year”.

Yes, a whole 11 points😂

Does his 8.6 suddenly make him a serious #2 option?

>Brunson has always been a solid starter

>Finney Smith is solid/auto starter
>
>He is playing with some serious/solid ballers

Since when did “solid starter” equate to #2 option?

“Solid starter” is just about the bare minimum compliment.

Even in your effort to elevate the stature of these guys, the language you use undercuts that effort, because it all reinforces the obvious fact that they’re just not at that level.

He said that those players wouldn’t cut most rotations in the NBA, which
is dead fucking wrong.

There are no scrubs in the NBA, and Luka is playing with solid players.
They are not some average dudes.

Luka missed the first three games of the Utah series, so Dallas was pegged
to lose that series. Dallas went up 2-1 with no Luka against a team with 3
Allstars. Brunson was the MVP of that Utah series, and is the reason why
Dallas is here. Luka had an injured calf during that series. Brunson
averaged about 28 a game.

Yesterday Dimwiddie dropped 30 and Brunson dropped 24

You and Random don’t know what the fock you’re talking about.

And I do think he's got more 'help' than the Cavs Bron teams of the mid 00's. But he doesn't have another all star with him - that's obvious. Jalen Brunson, Dinwiddie, etc are all nice pieces that any contender would LOVE to have...but they're exactly that: pieces. They are not a true #2 in the way that Jaylen Brown, Klay/Dray, Bam, etc are.

but if these Mavs show up, they could easily win that series.

Mavs are good defensively, and have way more size than GSW which what gives them trouble.

Also, almost all of the Dallas bigs can shoot 3's.

It's gonna be VERY interesting.

PLUS, there's always that x-factor of how the Dubs play loose w/ the ball and make a bunch of turnovers.

GSW gonna have to be more tighter than they were vs. Memphis.

if dubs cut down on turnovers and rebound like they have so far...they beat anyone. even on a lot of subpar shooting nights.

sweep.

It’s a bad matchup for Dallas.....because Wiggins/ Draymond will
take turns guarding Luka, and they are more tenacious than
Paul/ Booker

And Dallas will have to guard Poole/Thompson/Curry.....

Warriors/Heat for the championship.

cuz even though the Chase Center aint Oracle, Dubs just seem to always be more locked in, shoot better (which makes sense), etc at home.

should be a fun series.

maybe even a little bit of Jonathan, as we did in the regular season games against them:

https://twitter.com/anthonyVslater/status/1526084209420341248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1526084209420341248%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.redditmedia.com%2Fmediaembed%2Fuqpa87%3Fresponsive%3Dtrueis_nightmode%3Dtrue

it would give our starting defenders a break in stretches. And Kuminga has the physical profile to at least body up with Luka

Key for us is wear Luka down on defense. I want him in all the action on that end

I did like the notion of CP3 cementing his seat at that table, and Booker ascending.

But fuck the Suns, I’m good with it. I like all the stories playing out.

Sad to see Giannis get blown out. Kris could have made a difference here. Fuck Boston, but I do want to see JT elevate into that next tier.

Either Jimmy getting a chip so deep into his career, or Luka getting a chip so early, would be a satisfying story.

That said, I think I’d rather see the Warriors get another chip. I’d like to see Steph, Klay, and Dray further cement their legacies- and this would go a ways toward validating them apart from the KD chips.

The playoffs these last few years have been fantastic.

You can’t play Zingis in the playoffs and expect to have a competent defense. Just can’t do it. He’s a good rim protector who can’t do anything defensively more than 3 feet from the rim. Would’ve been embarrassed in space in that series.

And I’ve always liked Dinwiddie. Glad he’s back on a team that gives him a chance to do some things on a real stage instead of stuck in the quicksand of Washington.

I just looked up his contract on basketball-reference.com and while it isn't terrible, it's a bit bloated for a bench player. Dude can ball though, and more importantly, he can easily create his own shot, which Dallas needs in abundance given the shallow depth of talent on that roster outside of Luka.

Off tangent, I wonder if Dinwiddie's contract will prevent Cuban from giving Brunson all the ducats he deserves this offseason. IMO, Cuban can't afford to let Brunson walk, especially if he goes to another Western Conference team.

and how shallow the scoring punch is for Dallas outside of Luka, I have to wonder if Mark Cuban will back up the Brinks truck for Brunson this offseason.

Almost have to believe Cuban is forced to pay the man all the greenbacks he wants, no? Cuban can't afford to lose Brunson; even worse if he signs to another Western Conference team. That would be a terrible lose for the Mavs.

Anthony Edwards on instagram live last night making fun of Chris Paul. Yes, the same Anthony Edwards that plays for the team that blew two 20 point leads in the same game and multiple 10 point leads to lose in the first round. That guy is somehow making fun of a team that was still playing.

And then Pat Bev all over ESPN this morning saying Paul and Booker are not good. The same Pat Bev that has been sitting at home for two weeks not playing because he is not good.

You cant sit at home and make fun of a team for getting blown out when you're best known for blowing two separate 20 point leads in one game.

I like players talking shit when theyre going at each other. I thoroughly enjoyed the Luka and Devin Booker rivalry. But if you're sitting at home on your couch watching players that are still playing because you weren't good enough to even make it this far, my personal belief is that you should shut the fuck up.

i assume your point is something along the lines of "how can Pat Bev talk shit about how bad the Pelicans were when his team was a play-in team as well"

well, let's be fair, the play-in is some made up shit to make the NBA more money. Wolves were the 8 seed, so they were a "real" playoff team.

also, the Suns, the seasons best team and overall #1 NBA seed, struggled to beat the Pels, a play in team.

the T-Wolves beat the higher seeded clips, and probably should have beaten the Grizz. and even tho they kind of "choked" that away they still overachieved.

so, seems kinda fair for Pat Bev to make that "critique", no?

Which is why 99% of active dudes in the nba shouldn't be critiquing other players during the playoffs while their ass is home.

If Lebron wanted to be shitting on dudes play in the 2nd round of the playoffs...fine. Hell, if CP3 wanted to shit on Pat Bev, that would be more understandable than Pat bev doing it to CP3.

All that shit you explaining is whatever. It ain't that serious though right?

because he was bad in game 6 too.

now, i didn't watch game 6 so i don't know how much of this was going on in that game, but to be fair to Book, Dallas threw the kitchen sink at him in Game 7 and literally said "ANYONE else on the court please beat us" and everyone else on the court sucked ass (and i don't really think there's another guy on Phoenix would could have gotten hot enough to do that).

but, that being said, that's the game and the GREAT players still find a way even in the face of the kitchen sink.

so, i think it's definitely a bit fair to at least give him a light sear on both sides.

Mavs basically said "CP3 looks done so we're just gonna throw everyone at Booker and dare Paul to actually do anything"

Booker was amazing in the playoffs outside of this game and an off Game 6. I think Paul is getting heat because he absolutely vanished for FIVE games in a row and should have been cooking with the defense completely focused on Devin Booker. That and Paul did the same thing last year in the Finals while Booker still played well

I'm not a Pat Bev fan at all - but he's injecting some life into these repetitive segments on the round table shows. He's a ton of fun to have on there. Yes, he's trolling - but he's also insightful and doing exactly what those shows need and taking the unconventional or contrarian position on topics.

He's gonna be fine whenever he retires.

The sole credit I'll give Patrick Beverly is that he's being so visible and vocal with his slander while being an active player. He's going to be held accountable for all the trash he's dishing out when next season starts up.

It'll be interesting if other players such has his teammates will get dragged into the nonsense he's spewing out today.

For this team. If there is one.

But I'm not at all enthused by retread ass dudes. Monty is an exception there. I'm not gonna act like I understand exactly what these guys do as far as Xs and Os go - but, game 7 aside, he's a guy players want to play for and run through a wall for.

If not him (and yeah I know that's a long shot...but y'know...COY curse and all that) - roll the dice on a Darvin Ham or an assistant somewhere. Ime Udoka seemingly struggled out of the gate and now he's in the ECF as a rookie coach.

I dunno. I just hope it isn't fucking Terry Stotts or some nonsense.

Monty saying "internal" for why his minutes were so low.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/suns-monty-williams-hints-at-internal-reasons-for-only-playing-deandre-ayton-17-minutes-in-game-7-loss/

Suns' Monty Williams hints at 'internal' reasons for only playing Deandre Ayton 17 minutes in Game 7 loss
Ayton did not speak to the media after the game

The Phoenix Suns' season ended in devastating fashion on Sunday, as they lost Game 7 of their second-round series with the Dallas Mavericks, 123-90. Their 33-point loss was the worst defeat at home in a Game 7 since the St. Louis Bombers lost by 39 in 1948.

While the night did not go to plan for anyone on the Suns, it was particularly rough for Deandre Ayton. The big man finished with five points and four rebounds in just 17 minutes of action. Some of that was down to the nature of the game, but even in such a blowout, most of the Suns' starters still played 30-plus minutes.

A postgame comment from Suns head coach Monty Williams only increased the intrigue.

Asked about Ayton's lack of playing time, Williams said, "it's internal." When pressed to expound on that quote, he declined.

Star guard Devin Booker, meanwhile, did not exactly make a strong plea for Ayton to be back next season.

"His contract situation is between him and the front office," Booker said. "I care about him as a brother. Just making sure his mental is right...whatever happens, happens. Kind of hard to look so far in the future."

Ayton did not speak to the media after the game, so we do not know his side of the story. The Suns will have exit interviews in the next few days, however, so we should hear from him at some point in the near future.

In any case, his lack of playing time and the Suns' early exit from the playoffs do not bode well for Ayton's future with the club. As Booker alluded to in his quote, Ayton is set to hit restricted free agency this summer.

The two sides could not come to an agreement on an extension last year, and Ayton was upset with the franchise after not getting a full max deal worth $172.5 million over five years, per Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst of ESPN. While the Suns may have been open to a shorter max deal, no formal offers were ever made.

What this all means for this summer is hard to say. Ayton may want to go elsewhere and meet with other clubs to see if one will give him a true max deal. The Suns can match any offer sheet, though, and it's hard to imagine they'll just let him walk without getting anything in return, which opens up the possibility of a sign-and-trade. Of course, there's always a chance that things calm down over the next few weeks, and Ayton either signs a new long-term deal with the club or takes the one-year qualifying offer worth $16.4 million.

In any case, the Ayton situation is going to be fascinating to follow.

Letting a healthy and really good #1 overall pick walk during restricted free agency is pretty much unheard of.

And from my understanding, the Suns will be over the cap and paying luxury tax next year no matter what. If so, they won't be able to just not pay Ayton and slide someone else comparable in. So their options !) Sign in and pay the tax and be in the mix next year, 2) Let Ayton walk and hope you can get a replacement big man for the MLE and hope you'll be in the mix or 3) Decide to blow it up and try to trade everyone not named Booker. Of those, options, #1 sees the mostly, especially if they want a shot.
