is it me or is media week not really that much of a thing anymore?

every sports show used to be broadcast from the super bowl site for the entire week with nothing but interviews and guest appearances from football players past and present.

all types of funny gags, new team sb slogans, trash talk and bulletin board material, etc.

this week all i really saw was talk about tom brady retiring, aaron rodgers next possible team, nba trades, and a few football players here and there shilling for crypto/nfts/sportsbooks, etc.

i dont feel too much hype building going on.

you figure this shit would be extra crazy in l.a. with all of the stars, all of the social media influencers, and all of the sports shows and podcasts that are already located out there.

Embarrassment level 1,000 going on over here.

Would be falling all over themselves to anoint Joe Burrow as his successor.

Burrow has the "same pocket style" and "cool under pressure" and "in his second year like Brady" and "against the Rams in his first SuperBowl like Brady." It just doesnt really stick. But a couple of those morning shows have tried.

Also I’d blame the lack of hype on the Rams more than the Bengals. The Rams still do not have a large fanbase in LA. I expect Bengals fans to greatly outnumber them in their own stadium.

And tbh I think Stafford has already gotten the monkey off his back just by making it this far, so there’s not really a strong “redemption” storyline going in.

How do you play just a single note of G Thang. Should've opened with that instead of Next Episode. I know NE is technically the bigger song or whatever but it's not like G Thang is forgotten by anyone, and that song literally changed the sound of music for almost the entire 90s. Shame they didn't at least do a half verse of it or something.

I also could've done without 50. It was a crowded enough lineup as it was. And it's not like he really added much.

Mary also killed the mood with "No More Drama" IMO. Just didn't fit the rest of the vibe.

I decided that I would've been happier if they'd played G Thang, as mentioned, and if they'd limited the show to just Dre and his 3 major proteges (Snoop, Em, and Kendrick). Would've flowed way better and allowed then all to add another song or two.

That second gripe is only minor tho. One of the best halftime shows ever regardless. I thought the set was really unique and fun, specifically the producer boards for Dre - loved how they did that to show he was the overseer, the maestro. I also loved the '64s, although I was shocked/disappointed they didn't turn on the hydrolics once the Still DRE beat dropped haha.

I could barely pay attention to the 2nd half of the game I was still so jacked up from that halftime haha. I was so wistful seeing Snoop and Dre rocking the crowd together again. Those two guys made me fall in love with music/hip hop in 2nd grade so it brought back a ton of memories. Could've just watched those two play their classics for hours.
