"BREAKING: Brian Flores Files "Racism Lawsuit" Against The NFL "

https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/dophins-owner-brian-flores-lose-games-bonus-stephen-ross-2019-01ftvh8cggjj

Brian Flores has filed a class action lawsuit against the NFL for its racial hiring practices. The former Miami Dolphins head coach has been joined by a group of other Black coaches in the suit. In it, Flores makes some incredibly eye-opening claims. One that stands out is an allegation that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered him bonuses to lose games and improve the team's draft position and was angry when the team kept winning.

The suit claims Ross offered Flores $100,000 for each game the team lost in 2019. The relevant section of the lawsuit is below:

In 2019, on the heels of his outstanding performance with the Patriots, Mr. Flores was offered the Miami Dolphins Head Coach position. By all accounts, Mr. Flores did a fantastic job in three seasons from 2019-2021. In his first year, Miami’s gutted roster won five games despite many experts predicting an 0-16 season and one of the worst teams in NFL history.

The Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, was unhappy with this performance not because it was under-performing. To the contrary, Mr. Ross wanted the Mr. Flores to “tank” the season to put the team in position to secure the first pick in the draft. Indeed, during the 2019 season, Mr. Ross told Mr. Flores that he would pay him $100,000 for each game lost that year. Then, when the Dolphins started winning games, due in no small part to Mr. Flores’ coaching, Mr. Flores was told by the team’s General Manager, Chris Grier, that “Steve” was “mad” that Mr. Flores’ success in winning games that year was “compromising draft position.”

We all know tanking goes on, but the fact that Ross was willing to pay his coach $100,000 for each loss, then was upset when the team won, is absolutely insane. I have a feeling Mr. Ross will be getting a call from the NFL, then the league office will issue some kind of weak statement against tanking, then absolutely nothing will happen to address it.

TMZ: https://www.tmz.com/2022/02/01/coach-brian-flores-suing-nfl-and-ny-giants-claims-search-racist/

Brian Flores is going scorched earth on the NFL and New York Giants ... filing an explosive lawsuit where the former Dolphins head coach alleges the team's hiring practices were rooted in racism, and he claims a text from Bill Belichick proves it.

The 40-year-old coach filed the class action lawsuit in district court in New York on Tuesday ... and it's shocking.

Flores says he received a text from his former boss and Patriots head coach days before he interviewed with the Giants. During the conversation, Flores says BB congratulated him on landing the new gig.

BF was confused by the comment because he had yet to go in for his scheduled interview, and asked Bill if he had an inside track to their decision.

Belichick eventually admits he'd misread the information he received ... and tells Flores is was actually a different Brian -- Brian Daboll -- who got the Giants job.

Flores insists this is proof he was only brought in for an interview to satiisfy the Rooney Rule -- which requires teams to interview a minority candidate when a head coaching job opens up.

Brian is suing on the behalf of all prospective Black coaches and front office employees.

Flores is asking the court to fix the NFL's alleged discriminatory hiring practices, in addition to damages.

There's more ... Flores also accuses Dolphins owner Stephen Ross of offering to pay him $100K per loss -- in an effort to tank the season and get a better draft pick.

Flores says when he refused to play ball, he was labeled as being difficult to work with, and ultimately fired.

"This is reflective of an all too familiar “angry black man” stigma that is often casted upon Black men who are strong in their morals and convictions while white men are coined as passionate for those very same attributes," the lawsuit reads.

6. "NFL STATEMENT: "Brian Flores' claims are without merit.""
In response to Reply # 0

The NFL has issued a statement in response to Brian Flores’ lawsuit, which alleges racism in the league’s hiring practices and takes aim at the Giants.

Here is the statement:

“The NFL and our clubs are deeply committed to ensuring equitable employment practices and continue to make progress in providing equitable opportunities throughout our organizations. Diversity is core to everything we do, and there are few issues on which our clubs and our internal leadership team spend more time. We will defend against these claims, which are without merit.”

The NFL’s Rooney Rule supposedly encourages the hiring of minority coach candidates. As part of the rule, teams must interview at least two external minority candidates for head coaching jobs, and at least one external minority candidate must get an in-person interview.

The Giants interviewed Flores once (in person) for their recent head coaching job, which went to Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who is white.

Flores was one of three minority candidates the Giants interviewed. In addition to Flores, they also spoke to their own defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, and Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

Graham got one in-person interview, though he doesn’t technically count toward complying with the Rooney Rule, because he is an internal candidate. Frazier got two interviews, including one in person.

In his suit, Flores — who was recently fired as the Dolphins’ head coach — claims that the Giants already knew they were going to hire Daboll before hosting Flores for a sham interview. The Giants issued a statement denying the claim.

CAUGHT ON TAPE: "Brian Flores is the "Bravest/Dumbest" for this."

and the fact that he was offered a bribe to rig games, and then was labeled
as “ being difficult” when he refused is the epitome of how toxic the league
is.

He is putting his career on the line, and possibly his life, because the league
is a good ole boys organization, and they have strong political and legal ties.

Long overdue

>
>Brian Flores has filed a class action lawsuit against the NFL
>for its racial hiring practices. The former Miami Dolphins
>head coach has been joined by a group of other Black coaches
>in the suit. In it, Flores makes some incredibly eye-opening
>claims. One that stands out is an allegation that Dolphins
>owner Stephen Ross offered him bonuses to lose games and
>improve the team's draft position and was angry when the team
>kept winning.
>
>The suit claims Ross offered Flores $100,000 for each game the
>team lost in 2019. The relevant section of the lawsuit is
>below:
>
>In 2019, on the heels of his outstanding performance with the
>Patriots, Mr. Flores was offered the Miami Dolphins Head Coach
>position. By all accounts, Mr. Flores did a fantastic job in
>three seasons from 2019-2021. In his first year, Miami’s
>gutted roster won five games despite many experts predicting
>an 0-16 season and one of the worst teams in NFL history.
>
>The Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, was unhappy with this
>performance not because it was under-performing. To the
>contrary, Mr. Ross wanted the Mr. Flores to “tank” the
>season to put the team in position to secure the first pick in
>the draft. Indeed, during the 2019 season, Mr. Ross told Mr.
>Flores that he would pay him $100,000 for each game lost that
>year. Then, when the Dolphins started winning games, due in no
>small part to Mr. Flores’ coaching, Mr. Flores was told by
>the team’s General Manager, Chris Grier, that “Steve”
>was “mad” that Mr. Flores’ success in winning games that
>year was “compromising draft position.”
>
>We all know tanking goes on, but the fact that Ross was
>willing to pay his coach $100,000 for each loss, then was
>upset when the team won, is absolutely insane. I have a
>feeling Mr. Ross will be getting a call from the NFL, then the
>league office will issue some kind of weak statement against
>tanking, then absolutely nothing will happen to address it.

>Flores insists this is proof he was only brought in for an

>
>Brian is suing on the behalf of all prospective Black coaches

>Flores is asking the court to fix the NFL's alleged

>
>There's more ... Flores also accuses Dolphins owner Stephen
>Ross of offering to pay him $100K per loss -- in an effort to
>tank the season and get a better draft pick.
>
>Flores says when he refused to play ball, he was labeled as

>
>"This is reflective of an all too familiar “angry black

Incredibly, this was not Mr. Flores’ first sham interview that was held only in an effort to comply with the Rooney Rule. Indeed, in 2019 Mr. Flores was scheduled to interview with the Denver Broncos. However, the Broncos’ then-General Manager, John Elway, President and Chief Executive Officer Joe Ellis and others, showed up an hour late to the interview. They looked completely disheveled, and it was obvious that they had drinking heavily the night before.
It was clear from the substance of the interview that Mr. Flores was interviewed only because of the Rooney Rule, and that the Broncos never had any intention to consider him as a legitimate candidate for the job. Shortly thereafter, Vic Fangio, a white man, was hired to be the Head Coach of the Broncos.

and I know they covered this story. I wonder what he had to say about the Giants being involved. His number was retired last fall if memory serves me right, so I wonder how objective he'll remain. Even worse that Disney/ESPN/ABC has stakes in this and they sign his GMA paychecks, so I'm assuming he'll probably do his part to 'Protect The Shield'.

Would be cool if I'm wrong though.

I haven't watched football in years, but does he also still have that pre-game gig with Fox for football? If so, I guess I already have my answer in terms of how he'll portray this.

due to previous working relationship between GM and HC, really that big of a deal?

The Dolphins issue is the alarming part here.

An 'truly unqualified' candidate gaining some valuable experience or even getting their name out there for when they are qualified (a year or two) down the line.

But making an already qualified ready to go candidate go through the motions seems wrong.

I feel like the rooney rule is a band aid fix but the solution requires more in depth analysis and a program to promote and provide opportunities for minority candidates.

combine Schoen being the GM with sudden news Daboll was favored for the Dolphins and you have an accelerated cycle for the Giants filling the HC role, essentially guaranteeing it, prior to all interviews being conducted.

Wouldn't be the first time another team took the Giants first choice for HC (matt rhule comes to mind although let's be thankful that fell through)

Supposedly ownership favored Flores, but the GM they wanted wanted Daboll. As you know, fans and the media wanted ownership to be hands off with the direction of the team, so.... there you go. Kind of a bad situation.

It's comical how completely different Ronde Barber is from this dude given that they are twins. Almost like how Tia and Tamara from that old sitcom Sister, Sister are different as well. Such is life I suppose.

Seeing what kind of cornball Tiki is, I have to wonder what those Giants locker rooms were like. He did rack up some good years for the Giants, so I would have to imagine he got some degree of support from the offensive linemen.

if im hired to win and then they want me to lose, then you can either pay me to lose and renegotiate my severance package, or im resigning.

but tanking happens, and has happened for a long time. a coach's record follows him around forever, so it doesnt seem any more outrageous if the coach of the tanking team got money for achieving the organizational goals than if he does it for backslaps in the hallway of the team HQ.

but if you dont want to do what your employer wants you to do, and rather than quit you do what YOU want to do, that sounds like youre skating on real thin ice and risking a termination.

tanking has been normalized in American pro sports for like 30 years now, and is a natural consequence of the system making it better in the long term to be REALLY shitty as opposed to just kinda shitty.

my post wasnt about making it okay. its clearly BEEN okay. the 76ers gave it a formal title for fucks sake.

It is a perfectly logical conclusion that if you suck, or at least if you have no prospects at truly winning, that you would want to lose more to secure a better player in the draft. That all makes sense, from a front office perspective.

What I take issue with, and what seemingly happened here, is hiring a guy under the auspices of “we want to win, so that’s why you’re our guy.” then turning around and asking him to blatantly tank, thereby affecting his reputation and pride. Whether or not money is involved is besides the point, they hired him him under false pretenses. Had they been straight up with their intentions in the interview and he agreed to lose, then it’s a different story. That is almost certainly not the cas here, or in most cases of tanking.

To add on to the surprise request to tank, he goes on to actually build a good team in spite of all the challenges they face, which is the exact thing he was fucking hired for… so they fire him for it. Again, they hired him under false pretenses. I honestly don’t give a shit about tanking. The lying is what’s important here.

but if you finally made it to the top and it was rare for a Black man to make it that high up and your boss asked you to take L’s for the company you wouldn’t find it insulting?

where the fuck are you from where this is okay?

Now, if it was in the interview that’s different but nah.. if you are trying to impress and the boss is telling you not to impress its damn near a self sabotage.

I think you might be applying NBA logic to this where Black coaches are hired and fired and rehired quickly. The NFL rarely gives Black coaches a chance when they win so losing is damn near a death sentence to your career as a head coach.

I'm trying to see what exactly you are labeling as a problem and it appears to be asking a coach to tank if you hired him under a different pretense. I agree with you 100%. The money part is kinda irrelevant.

In response to Reply # 44

There's one Black head coach, in a predominantly white, old boys club league of owners.

So let's parse this out.

They pay him to lose, establishing himself as a coach with a losing record, thereby further limiting potential head coaching opportunities in the future.

That makes him less likely to be considered a serious candidate for prime coaching jobs that come available.

There's an valid argument to be made for an organization to tank, from a purely philosophical standpoint.

But getting into the granular details of paying a coach specifically to do that is a different subject entirely, because we're now also discussing the ramifications for that coach specifically, as well as the broader ramifications for other, potential Black head coaches.

that dude always seems to be the go to QB when you are trying to tank.

never seen a dude refuse to throw and run out of bounds while losing 9 yards instead of throwing it away.

and there is always a high draft pick right around the corner for their next QB whole he in on the roster.

there is a always a group of people who pride themselves on finding some pedantry or technicality whenever racism is brought up.

in this case, that group brought up the ethics of tanking to sideline the conversation about racism, and turn it into a completely separate sub-argument that overtakes the actual major issue.

and they're proud of it too.

Flores isn't a head coach right now because the NFL has racist and discriminatory power structures. his coaching will never be good enough (somehow he didn't win OR lose enough games, amazing) and his lawsuit will never be airtight enough for these people. that's what racism is -- exhausting yourself to prove the obvious, over and over again.

yes i totally made one reply to the OP in hopes of making the entire board forget about the racism inherent to the workings of the NFL.

brilliant

nobody on this board is unaware that the NFL is based around a racist power structure that mirrors that of the country as a whole, or that Brian Flores is a casualty of it.

but i WAS unaware that i had to make that explicitly clear to you in order for you not to do the cowardly "these people" "a group of people" thing, where you obliquely criticize without directly addressing the person youre sub-posting about. i asked you "like what?" and you could have asked me any number of questions directly. maybe something like

"do you really think thats the most important part of this lawsuit?"

answer: no, but i sense hypocrisy on the horizon and thats kinda interesting to me.

"do you not believe Brian Flores current employment status reflects racial discrimination in NFL employment practices?"

answer: of course i do.

"why do you think its appropriate to approach this topic from this angle?"

answer: unless my posting is going to help Brian Flores get rehired, i dont think appropriate comes into play if im not being insulting or degrading to the people im interacting with.

if you disagree with that, fine. but this is super lame, and you really shouldn't presume to assign me a worldview.

altho i did get a kick out of you explaining what racism is. good thing you're here for stuff like that!

To be clear, I don't agree with the poster's point about litigating or breaking down the minutiae of tanking, but I don't think having that discussion heavily weakens the overall gist of this post. And to be fair, the tanking allegation was part of Brian Flores' complaint, so having that discussion isn't totally off limits in this post IMO.

Honestly, I thought DSTL's gripe was with the personal post shots and overly long back and forths that were occurring near the top of the post.

Browns ownership are idiots for doing this. If RG3 didnt go down we win another game or two maybe more screwing up the tank. Why pay a coach to lose on purpose given our roster at the time?

If two white coaches in the next 72 hours don't come forward with similar stories the league takes an even worse pr hit. A lack of black head coaches this offseason is bad look considering owners are providing bonuses for them to lose. This situation is disrespectful to players, coaches, and fans.

It always fails. They used to show old Tiki highlights in Giants history segments at the stadium to gauge the crowd's reaction. Every time, straight boos.

ownership but it's the NFL's job to right the ship, like the NBA attempts to do.

I remember visiting Pittsburgh and talking to a white cab driver on how lucky the city was to have Tomlin as coach. Dude froze me out after that.

I'm not sure how you can get around the deeply ingrained racism of the general populace

If I remember correctly, the power structure in the NFL is different compared to other sports leagues. I believe the owners collectively are Roger Goddell's boss, so ultimately he serves their collective needs. In a sense, the owners are policing themselves. Silver has more power to correct measures in the NBA than Goddell does in the NFL because Silver can act without having to answer to the owners as much as Goddell does. Plus I have to think NBA players have way more power to hold the NBA honest compared to what NFL players can do, which is key.

If that is the case, the only way to make the owners accountable would be to hurt their collective pockets somehow.

If I'm wrong about the NFL owners being Goddell's collective boss, I would like someone to correct me. I remember seeing or reading this years upon years ago when I actually watched football.

Dan "I'm never changing the Redskins' name" Snyder abruptly pivoted as soon as two major sponsors threatened to walk. What's that, COMMANDER?

It's simply folks don't have the will to use their power. Stop watching (will take longer but low numbers hurt their contract negotiations), stop purchasing NFL licensed products, don't go to games, TELL SPONSORS YOU ARE NO LONGER GOING TO SUPPORT THEM BECAUSE OF THEIR CONTINUED RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NFL AND ITS RACIST PRACTICES.

But folks on FB talmbout "your kids are gonna learn about you during the Super Bowl Halftime Show." Quick to complain, slow to act.

how people lost their minds when Kaepernick simply made a symbolic gesture to protest the nonsense with police abusing black folks in the US. When I saw folks actually get upset with Michael Bennett taking a stand when police literally held him at gun point in error, that's when I totally lost interest in watching the NFL.

I don't think it's wrong to come to the conclusion that the general masses that watch the NFL don't care that deeply about folks of color getting any substantive power within the league.

I wish I didn't love watching so much, kinda like UFC.

There's gotta be something to be said for more progressive minded, conscientious people being represented in the audience in these problematic arenas. That has some effect on coverage of the sport and hopefully can shape public opinion to the point of changing attitude of ownership

ive seen a few guys all bring up the same talking point that the nfl needs to focus on getting black people in the entry level positions so that there are more of them in the coaching pipeline.

sounds logical.

but the issue isnt that there arent enough qualified black candidates coming through the pipeline. its that the qualified black candidates that *are* already there arent getting fair shots at head coaching gigs.

so basically you wanna flood the pipeline with even more qualified folks who have no shot at getting hired for a top job?

the issue is that the owners arent hiring black folks as hc period. fix *that* first.

at first...im like...maybe its an honest mistake overlooking the *immediate* issue in lieu of broader macro level reforms. but now it just seems like a coordinated avoidance/deflection strategy to make it seem like the issue is the lack of qualified black candidates.

the issue honestly for the most part, in New York at least

I have heard the argument that it's a bottom-up issue, and if you take that view you can point at there seeming to be a shortage of black positional coaches and OCs in the NFL.

Majority of current HC in the NFL are former OCs (way the league is trending) which points to the question, why are there consistently more Black DCs than OCs? I wonder if partially that's because of a historical lack of Black QBs all the way up from the HS level, but the overall disparity has been noted for a long time

But also, yeah. Give the coaches that are in rotation, the Patrick Grahams, the Bienemys, the Fraziers a serious look and get them in head coaching gigs, at the very least until the historical problems are ironed out from lower levels of play.

which is why the whole “it wasn’t insulting” was weird af.

and Steeler fans who hate him are some entitled assholes who don’t realize he has probably done some of his best coaching from 2019 to 2021.

Shazier paralyzed. AB damn near killed by Burfict and woke up a different person. Ben was old af and most missed a whole season. Rudolph and Duck at QB. Cap is all types of fucked up from holding onto Ben too long. Half the key players were hurt.

and in 15 years Tomlin has never coached a regular season game where the team was already eliminated from the playoffs.

spoiled ass fans.

It's amazing the number of fans that want Tomlin gone. They ride with Ben. I've heard many say that now that Ben is gone, Tomlin will be exposed. This totally ignores the fact he has been winning despite Ben not because of him.

its funny because when Ben was suspended for 4 games they all said we would go 0-4.

We went 3-1 and the only loss was in OT vs the Ravens in Baltimore with Dennis Dixon at QB.

These fans simply don’t appreciate the job Tomlin is doing because they actually believed Ben should’ve gone to 6 SB’s and Tomlin held him back.

Pretty wild the dude is literally younger than me.

The main reason I bring up his age is that assuming no NFL team will touch this dude with a ten foot pole, what is he going to do to earn a living going forward? The man is extremely young and seems to be willing to totally sacrifice a good deal of his professional coaching career to take this stand.

I can’t see anyone in the NFL now that he is suing a few teams. These owners won’t touch him. Maybe Tepper in Carolina since he is new and doesn’t seem to give af.

Would love to have him as the Steeler DC.. maybe take over for Tomlin in a few years.

He will get a big, undisclosed settlement. Write a book like someone else said.

Maybe be a HC in CFB. I don’t see him ever being a coach at any level in the NFL.

Through it all, he will still be trying to replace Tua at QB.

Flores' lawsuit was never going to "change the NFL" like most reporters were assuming when the news first broke. The only coaches that will join him would be old retired coaches with nothing to lose. Just pointing out that the younger coaches are doing the opposite, which is expected. They're still in the game. I think people are already starting to shift to only focus on the "are owners paying coaches to tank" aspect.

They wanted McCown (for whatever the fuck reason someone would want a failed back-up that helps out his sons high school team) and then panicked out how horrendous that would look after Flores. So they went with Lovie Smith, who they will fire after one season.

Its almost as bad a slap in the face as if they just went with their original choice.

In response to Reply # 203

This racist dickhead is the reason we traded Hopkins for a bag of stale Fritos and he's not even a football guy, he's a "Pastor/Chaplin!" :-|

QUOTE FROM ANDRE JOHNSON: "The Texans organization is known for wasting players careers. Since Jack Easterby has walked into the building nothing good has happened in/for the organization and for some reason someone can’t seem to see what’s going on. Pathetic!!!"

https://twitter.com/johnson80/status/1349084500840640518

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED ARTICLE...................

https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/12/10/ex-chaplain-jack-easterby-houston-texans-chaos-after-power-struggle-daily-cover

S.I. QUOTE: Many in Houston, though, have not seen him as the congenial confidant and Belichick foil. Rather, they describe an authority figure whose leadership style sows distrust and division, at times flouting rules and straining relationships inside the building. Meanwhile, his responsibilities expanded despite questions surrounding his credentials.

~Conversations with more than 40 people—current and former Texans football operations staff and players, colleagues from Easterby’s time in New England, those from his past in and out of football—provided detailed accounts of his alleged role in, among other things:

~Undermining other executives and decision-makers, including the head coach who helped bring him to Houston.

~The team’s holding workouts at the head strength coach’s house during the COVID-19 pandemic after the NFL had ordered franchises to shut down all facilities, shortly before a breakout of infections among players.

~Advocating for a trade of star receiver DeAndre Hopkins soon after arriving in Houston—one season before Hopkins was sent to Arizona in a widely panned deal.

~Fostering a culture of distrust among staff and players to the point that one Texan and two other staffers believed players were being surveilled outside the building.

When SI began making phone calls in October to make sense of Easterby’s improbable path, he quickly caught wind and reached out to a reporter, saying that he wanted to help communicate “truth and honesty.” Easterby did not return a text message, sent Tuesday, offering a chance to tell his side of the story.

But colleagues who spoke to SI—many requesting anonymity, like the player, for fear of retribution—said they felt compelled to share their own truth in the hopes of opening the eyes of McNair, of whom one source said: “ is just blinded.” There is a perception inside the Texans’ building that Easterby won a power struggle, completing his climb. And in doing so, these sources say, the character coach brought in to improve the culture has made it worse.

TITLE: "Jack Easterby’s Rise to Power and the Chaos That Followed"

https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/12/10/ex-chaplain-jack-easterby-houston-texans-chaos-after-power-struggle-daily-cover

SUMMARY: "His path to the top of the Houston Texans’ front office is unlike anything the NFL has ever seen. Many from his past see him as a chaplain with a heart of gold or an underdog outsider with the tools for greatness. Others are skeptical, unable to square his relentless ambition with claims of selflessness. Two years after his arrival in Houston, those inside the Texans’ building describe an atmosphere of mistrust, a state of constant chaos and a sense that he isn’t fit for the roles he’s taken on."

..check hiring practices in Goodell's office, but not the teams? They're running the standard playbook. We've seen this before (as well as their stance on CTE or kneeling/player protests).

So you're response to a lawsuit involving racism is to surround yourself with all the Black people/power you can afford?

I don't know Lynch and i'm sure this is par for the course in her field, but some things are bigger than $$$. Her decision to work with Karp (Enron, CTE cases, etc.) shows the only hiring practices we need to pay attention to are the house niggas used to settle the ruckus.

of course I love it as a Steeler fan

Part of me hopes he is next in line for the Steeler gig.

Another part of me hopes this will elevate Austin as our DC and he gets a gig and Flores also gets another gig after we crush the NFL next year..

and another part is just wondering where this lawsuit will actually go given he isn’t the first HC to get fired or passed over for a gig after being fired.

The sad reality is no one can force an NFL team to hire Flores or qualified Black head coaches over these unseasoned coaches who are jumping the line.

Mans should be a head coach but at least he wasn't Kaepernick'd. Not yet at least.

dude was on some fairly dismissive 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' kinda shit.

you could sense their frustration and how much they were trying to prod him.

it was pretty interesting how much he kinda deflected when it came to race and hiring black coaches...but then he was asked if cooper kupp faces any issues for being white at the wr position...dude responded quickly and emphatically like 'of course!'.

he seems like cool dude otherwise tho lol.

yeah...but i think brian flores is pretty much on his own out here. a lot of black coaches aint tryna rock the boat too much and fuck up their current/potential opportunities.

I dont see any of the current african american coaching candidates speaking on it like Flores. Maybe Leftwich. But i feel like he got hit by even asking the Jags to get rid of their shitty General Manager. "Oh, he's that guy."

But they had to change directions due to the lawsuit. Flores continues to be right even though he will lose in court. If it goes to court.

to fulfill Rooney Rule

“You go the gig… but we still have to string these negros along before we can announce it”

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/04/07/mike-mularkey-revealed-titans-did-sham-rooney-rule-interviews-after-hiring-him-as-coach/

Former Titans head coach Mike Mularkey admitted that when he was hired in 2016, the team delayed an official announcement of his hiring solely so they could conduct interviews with minority coaches to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

In a 2020 podcast interview that got little attention at the time but has now come up in Ray Horton’s lawsuit, Mularkey confessed that he has always regretted agreeing to go along with the Titans’ sham.

“I allowed myself, at one point, when I was in Tennessee, to get caught up in something that I regret,” Mularkey said on the Steelers Realm Podcast. “I still regret it. The ownership there, Amy Adams Strunk and her family, came in and told me I was going to be the head coach in 2016 before they went through the Rooney Rule. And so I sat there knowing I was the head coach in ’16, as they went through this fake hiring process knowing a lot of the coaches that they were interviewing, knowing how much they prepared to go through those interviews, knowing that everything they could do and they had no chance to go that job. And actually, the GM Jon Robinson, he was in an interview with me. He had no idea why he is interviewing me, that I have a job already. I regret it. . . . and I’ve regretted that since then. It was the wrong thing to do and I’m sorry I did that, but it was not the way to do that. Should have been interviewed like everybody else and got hired because of the interview, not early on. So that’s probably my biggest regret. . . . It’s not hard to do the right thing. It’s really not. But you can get caught up in this business.”

Horton, who is Black, was interviewed after Mularkey had already been told he was getting the job, and Horton has now joined the lawsuit filed by Brian Flores accusing the NFL and its teams of racial discrimination in hiring.

The audio of Mularkey describing what went down in Tennessee is incredibly damning to the Titans and to the NFL.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

deets:
Dolphins stripped of 2023 1st round pick and 2024 3rd round pick for violating the integrity of the game (Flores lawsuit).

Stephen Ross suspended through Oct. 17th (ehhh, ok?) and fined 1.5 million

NFL also found that a Dolphins limited partner, Bruce Beal communicated with Tom Brady, throughout the 2019 season when he was with the Patriots...and passed that info on to Ross. They also communicated with Brady in 2021, when he was with the Bucs, regarding becoming a part owner of the team and possibly serving as a team executive.

"You can't watch the team you own and profit from in person."

NFL rules and policies are wild, partly due to the players own doing having different penalties in different tiers of punishment. Calvin Ridley gets an entire season...
