"The 2022 NBA All-Star Roster"

2022 West All-Star starters:
Stephen Curry
Ja Morant
LeBron James
Nikola Jokic
Andrew Wiggins

2022 East All-Star starters:
DeMar DeRozan
Trae Young
Kevin Durant
Joel Embiid
Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Wiggins start is really wild. He's having a great year, props to him for making the team, especially after his godawful start in Minnesota. But his inclusion also almost certainly means there's going to be a considerable snub-- maybe Towns or Ayton, not sure.

The East starters are largely as expected, imo. No big surprise there.

Some of the reserve selections are going to get very, very interesting. Some tough cuts to be made down in those last spots/injury reserve selections.

They always come out in droves.

Maybe with Paul George (the fourth vote getter) definitely missing the game, Anthony Davis (the fifth vote getter) not playing well and just coming back from injury anyway, and the West unlikely to play guys like Jokic and Gobert or Towns at the same time, the media just shrugged their shoulders, mirrored the fans, and went with the feel-good story.

I'm just surprised that the third most important player on a team is starting in the West. I'd be interested to see a list of all the NBA All-Star starters of the last decade or so and where Wiggins's season to date would rank among that list.

Guy was miscast much like Andre Iguodola was. For years.

I don’t have a spreadsheet to quantify what he does for us like other folks. I just watch hoops for my “sample size. “ We found an absolute gem in a guy who can guard their best scorer, and give us much needed buckets on the other end from all three levels of the game

We’ve all hooped with a “NyQuil” guy like Wiggins. A guy who is a walking bucket needing to be in the right situation. Idk not every guy has the alpha I’m-the-guy Kobe mentality. There’s also a mental health angle here too that I don’t feel like typing out lol

on a game to game basis.

easily the most consistent player and was the best 3 pt shooter for much of the season (might still be now especially with currys recent struggles).

draws the best player on the other team just about every night.

through the injuries, steph playing like shit, up and down play fro jordan poole, etc...wiggins has been solid as a rock just about each and every game.

ive been talking about him this entire season. as has anyone who has been watching most of their games.

it was basically him and dray for that same spot with different but similar rankings among the fans, media, and players.

East: Harden, Butler, LaVine, VanVleet, Ball, Tatum, one of Garland or Allen (I'll say Allen). And I'd guess a Buck will get Durant's injury spot-- Middleton or Holiday.

West: Booker, Luka, Gobert, CP3, KAT, Mitchell, Draymond. Dejounte first injury replacement.

When he's played this season, he's been one of the ten best players in the NBA. I think if Paul George wasn't actively injured right now, he'd have a decent shot as a reserve for the same reason.

I wonder how much of that is just "we probably need another Buck, he's the guy who's been there before, let's just give it to him" level thinking. He's objectively playing worse this year than he has in his last two seasons. I could make a strong argument that Holiday has been more important than Middleton so far this year.

That having been said, I don't hate the inclusion. He would've been one of, like, five guys who could've gotten that spot that I wouldn't have been mad at. And I don't think the West guys were that hard to choose.

Since (a) he'd been electric in an ASG, and (b) the Hornets probably deserve an inclusion considering how they've over performed expectations so far, and he'd be the obvious dude to choose (especially since Bridges's shooting numbers have come back to Earth).

He's an undrafted dude who fought to become an All-Star. It's the best story on this list.

If anything, be mad they picked Middleton in his worst season in three years. He's the guy I'd have dropped for Melo, personally.

After that? I mean... it's probably Anthony Davis. 23/10/3 is real hard to deny, even if the Lakers have been a big disappointment.

I'd certainly make a case for DeAndre Ayton-- or, if the player is taking Draymond's spot, it'd be kind of cool if it went to Mikal Bridges, since I think there's a real argument that he's the best wing defender in the NBA today. I'd also love to see Shai considered, but I realize the team's so bad that it's probably not happening (same for Ingram).

I think Dejounte and AD are probably the first two up to bat, realistically.

Dejounte is having an insane year.

AD is actually having a pretty good year, when he plays. Then again he’s only played like 3 games less than Draymond, surprisingly (obv Dray is the front runner for DPOY and on the team with the 2nd best record in the league so I get it).

I’d imagine the coaches go with Dejounte.

because people say Russ' stats don't mean anything when his teams lose but Murray's does?

make it make sense lol

and players on losing teams making the all-Star team IS a recent phenom but if you haven't being paying attention to the NBA for more than 5 years you wouldn't know that

Dejounte is getting per game more points, more rebounds, more assists, more steals, more blocks, fewer turnovers, better FG%, better 3P%, and better FT% than Russ this season.

Russ was getting almost a triple double per game last season, but his efficiency numbers were so appalling that they left him out. (He then went ballistic and went 24/13/13 after the ASG with way better efficiency, lol.) I'm not sure I would've made the same choice leaving him off, but I get the argument.

That said, people who say triple doubles are meaningless are dumb. Maybe an individual triple double can be meaningless, if you do 18-10-11 in a 20-point loss and you're shooting 20% from the floor and turning it over 6 times. Then sure, that triple double is meaningless. But averaging even close to a triple double is really goddamn hard.

Especially on the efficiency that Dejounte is displaying. I'm not even as high on Dejounte as others, but it's hard to deny the season he's having, and I think they were right to make him the first sub.

East all star comp was way different last year, you had people like Kyrie & Ben Simmons in the game, Tre Young didn’t make it either

Ben was doing 16-8-8 before the ASG. Russ was doing a couple tenths shy of 20-10-10. But Ben was obviously way more efficient.

Jaylen Brown was doing 24-6-4-- if the efficiencies were the same, 20-10-10 would easily be better than 24-6-4. But Jaylen was shooting well and not coughing it over 4 times a game.

I think the people who say "triple doubles are meaningless" and point at Russ are missing the point, because I think triple doubles absolutely aren't meaningless and are insanely hard to get, even at lower efficiency levels, lol. But there does reach a point where the efficiency gets low enough that you wonder if the triple-doubles are consistently a net positive for winning.

If Russ's team was losing but the efficiency numbers were closer to Dejounte's, I think he'd have been an All-Star. And vice versa, if Dejounte was shooting worse and turning it over way more, he's not on the All-Star team.

I was agreeing that triple doubles aren't meaningless! I was just pointing out that Russ's triple doubles, as of late, have been inefficient enough to counterbalance the impactfulness of the triple doubles, lol.

I was the guy before the season who was confident Russ would figure it out, because he's raised a team's regular season ceiling basically his entire career. I definitely think people needlessly shit on Russ. (That said, this season being his worst/least efficient to date has definitely dampened my preseason argument's effectiveness, lol.)

Russ has started slow in the first half the last two seasons and picked it up in the 2nd half it’s possible he could do the same this season

He was shooting worse and turning it over more before the break last year, so maybe there's room for optimism. That said, he was also returning from injury, IIRC, and kind of playing his way into shape. Who knows?
