LeBron's 1st year in Miami they were close to .500 around the same time and still made it to this Finals.

Lebron had played in one finals and 66 total playoff games.

He's now played in ten finals and has played 261 total playoff games. Oh and he's 11 years older, too.

AD is 28, which was the point at which DWade had a few elite years left but had started the decline.

Westbrook is 33.

You see that these scenarios, outside of the total number of games played before December, are not the same, right?

In response to Reply # 2

and he is going to run hot and cold....Thibs can't compute that... he wants Red Hot Kemba for 27 minutes a game...well in reality, you get cold Kemba for 14 minutes, savvy Kemba for 7, and 6 minutes when he can hit shots from anywhere in the building. Been the same since he was at UCONN. He manages the game much better of course, but the scoring is going to be sketchy, especially with his age. Thibs should start Burks, who has been nuts, and play Rose, Kemba AND McBride based on who is on fire, matchups, etc.

but Thibs is making changes because he got backed into a corner by injuries. The depth the Knicks have can only been capitalized upon with a fluid approach to minutes, and Thibs continues to be a one trick pony with his rotation.

Now by accident, he found out his best point guard was his backup shooting guard, and his starting shooting guard plays BETTER with this point guard. He could have found that shit out a month ago if he did any experimentation.

He is still lost on the fact that Obi and Jules are lights out together. Thank Goodness Jericho Sims and Grimes got some minutes....now if we could get the ole ball coach to sub in McBride, we could go 10-12 deep and keep his favorites fresh for the spring.

At this point, I consider this year 2 of a three year relationship and then we'll get a championship coach, Mike Brown or someone of that ilk.

7. "Bulls struggle with the zone."
In response to Reply # 0

Our offense revolves around DeRozan/LaVine isolation and fast breaks created off turnovers.
That works if a team is guarding us man to man, but soon as they put up a zone, it's a wrap.
Plus when the Bulls don't force turnovers, we struggle.

I'm putting this squarely on Donovan.
He's gotta find a way to move the ball more.

probably would have stolen one of that brutal "Nets Sandwich" stretch where Mobley and Allen were both out. Losing that Celtics game also sucked. Their asses are gonna get cooked on the next go round.

there are really only 2 bad things going on right now: the team lacks shooting (corner 3 percentage is abysmal, even Detroit is better), and turnovers. getting really sloppy with that (esp. from both guards)

but I love what I'm seeing from the bigs, and from both Kevin Love and Lauri Markannen.

Mobley, Markannen, Rubio. 3 dudes together changing the fortunes of this team.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

Part me hopes that modern medicine in 2021 can rehabilitate him so he can come back playing near his full potential.
Our thoughts on ACL tears are much different today than they were 10-15 years ago.
Can the same be said for the back?
Granted, I know a knee is a lot different than what holds your entire body together.

Smart on his part, but one of the dumbest operation moves in basketball
history.

As great as Pippen was, Jerry wasn’t going to shell out loot to him, and almost
every season they tried to trade him because they knew his back was
a ticking time bomb. He held up for his entire Bulls career, but then his
back gave out during their last championship.

Denver better hope that Porter has the same trajectory.

In response to Reply # 10

I do not play a doctor so this is wild speculation, but he could still have an impactful career.

He may have to play fewer minutes (be a sixth man but close the game) or be cautious relating to his health, but his talent, especially his shooting is not likely to fade. From what I saw and read, his game was built on savvy and less on sheer athleticism.

Granted the track record for players with back surgery is not good. R wight.

But Dwight's game *was* built on athleticism, so when his back went out, so did his key advantage.

Plus we see now that medical science has advanced to the point where serious injuries, even Achilles injuries are not the end of a career, e.g. Durant, Hayward

Listen, I love that the front office added Caruso.
It's not hard to see how he impacts the defense on the floor.

BUT...I can't stand that he gets MVP chants at the free throw line.
These white Bulls fans are so hard pressed for a hero sometimes.

Both LaVine and DeRozan are top 10 in PPG.
But Caruso gets MVP chants?

Am I making too much of this?

But we always said he was much more than a meme, and a lot of fanbases didn't get that.

I do hate that he's meme-ified so much - including MVP chants, calling him GOAT, etc. because it undermines how good he actually is.

Of course he isn’t MVP.

Since the story came out that he was willing to take less money than what the
Bulls were offering to stay with the lakers, people have been celebrating
his talents. They basically do it to ridicule the Lakers.

Plus he got MVP chants at MSG by Knicks fans when
he played for the Lakers.

He is a fan favorite, so it’s sort of a running gag in a positive sense.

gave him a $40m bag to be a backup, good for him. For the Lakers it was basically a decision between paying him or THT and they felt like THT had the more long term potential.

I feel like people put too much hype on who "starts" and finishes. JaVale wasn't don't much 2 years ago.

Back during the Shaq/Kobe 3-peat era we started people like old ass AC Green, old ass Horace Grant and Samaki Walker but it didn't matter because Horry usually finished games.

Similar to Horry Dwight has a tendency to pick up silly fouls early when he starts.

the last time the Cavs won against them, they were also without Jimmy, and it took overtime to do so.

This time, after a brief faltering to start the 4th, they ran up the score so much, they had several minutes of garbage time, ended up with a 26 point win in the end. In a game where they had a lot of turnovers (over 20) and some defensive sequences I REALLY didn't like.

Kevin Love went OFF on both sides of the floor.
Mobley continues to Mobley.

Heat defense cut off the alley oops, but Garland and Allen still cooked them.

Even Okoro and Stevens were hitting 3s and good shots.

Lauri came in to run up the score with a late 3.

First win in Miami since Shaq was a Cavalier.

Let's go. 2-0 so far on this road trip

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

Come on Thibs, let Jericho hack for a few fouls!

If IQ can do his thing against Lonzo, I will be sold on this move.

Lots of signs they still have a ways to go with giving up big leads with stagnant offense via opposing teams playing better defense. BUT, they’ve been able to fight through these situations, generally. Like I think we have yet to see the best of this team. Vuc has basically been a fourth option because they haven’t figured out a way to fully integrate him yet. These guys barely know how to play with each other.

The defense is legit too.

I may be biased, but at the moment I see this team getting better with time.

I’m happy as shit that we are doing well. However, Vucevic is still a disease on
defense, and the Knicks don’t really have an interior. Randle’s big ass plays from
the outside, and Robinson and Nerlens are just rim protectors with zero offense. Vucevic can handle them with ease without worrying about having to play defense.

When we go up against teams with size and who play with a high IQ,
our weaknesses become glaring. Don’t get me wrong, this team can compete
with any team in the NBA, but we still have a lot of issues that need to
be corrected.

If Coby White can drop 15 a night off the bench, that will make up for
the points we give up in the paint due to our interior defense being weak.
Coby is the X factor.

The true test will be the Cavs, Wizards and the Bucks...Those teams
have paint monsters. Those games will let us know if we can really do something
in the east.

We will do no worse than the 8th seed, that’s for sure.

I think this is an exaggeration. Defense is contagious, and
playing with Ball and Caruso (who has been directing not only him
but the entire team like a middle line backer) has made
him serviceable on defense.

Ha. Coby has played half the season. Bulls have kinda figured
things out without him. In fact, Ayo has been getting a lot of White's minutes.

Vucevic is the x factor.
He seems to have played through his slump.
If teams have to account for him, the game becomes easy for DeRozan and LaVine.

He doesn’t have the experience yet, which is why his minutes
aren’t consistent. He has been a DNP-CD in a few games, especially
when white is a available.

Our big three are going to do what they do, but to have us highly
competitive against the top teams we are going to need point
production off the bench to match those team’s bench production.

The big three all scored near 30 and we almost lost the game in the closing
minutes. We got no double figure scoring from the bench. In the previous
game we got 14 from White to close it out.

White is being counted on and expected be the leading scorer off the
bench to compliment the big 3 to really give us a chance against elite teams.

The clarksons, the porters, the Harrells...their bench scoring puts their
teams over the top... We are going to need Coby to continue to emulate that.

Tony Bradley started while Vuc had Covid, but he's only used

which is sad.

We have zero rim protection due to lack of size and ability.

Vuec has zero athleticism when it comes to protecting the rim.
He is an offensive beast, but defensively the awareness just
isn’t there. It’s so easy to go up and around him, and the blocks
he does get come from the outside. He doesn’t get those meet you at
the rim blocks.

We have no athletic big, which is needed to really be competitive.

A looney, a Capela, a gafford( rolls eyes), a Gobert, a Mobley or Allen,
a Lopez....I have no idea why they didn’t go after Whiteside when he was
available.

Shit man, I’m willing to take a chance on Marvin Bagley because he is a legit
rim protector and he wants out of Cali.....but he comes with a lot of baggage.

Especially down the stretch. I think Billy D is not really getting much flow out of his offense - way too many Demar and Zach isos.

The ball should be in Lonzos hands and he should be running 90% of the offense, finding all 3 of his guys in their spots. If shit fails then go to D for the iso. I'm tired of seeing D or Zach bring it down court, dribble 20 seconds and then miss a fuckin layup while everybody else is just in the corner watching.

Isolations and turnovers.

That's the crux of our offense.
And as more teams play zone and figure us out,
we'll struggle.

Like you I'd like to see more ball movement.
If guys are cutting and moving, I'm sure Lonzo would find them
if he running point more.

BUT, when either DeRozan or Lavine run PNR with Vucevic, it's dangerous.

great passers in Lonzo, Caruso, Vuec, and Derozan. Bulls are 15th in
assists, which is middle of the pack. The problem is when teams go zone or
box in one, the movement of the offense stops, because players can’t get
to their spots. The bulls are a mid range team, and love getting to the elbow or
from the side for a nice clear mid range shot. Teams are now cutting that off to
force the bulls to shoot from distance, and a player like Derozan does not
feel comfortable being forced to shoot from way outside.

Zach, Ball, and Caruso can all hit the 3....Vuec and Derozan like to
get to their sweet midrange spot, and since they are our 4-5 position players,
the scouting report says to keep those two away from any part of the paint
or elbow.....and that also messes up our spacing and leads to a lot of ISOs.

The only thing that kills a zone is shooting....so Derozan and Vuec are going
have to be able to knock down shots from all parts of the floor.

In man to man, this teams has great movement because of the quickness of our
players. Billy has to come up with a plan to deal with these box and 1s, because
the whole league knows that’s the way to slow us down.

Grizzlies benched scored 93 points, and OKC didn’t attempt
to guard anything or anyone.

People kept live betting OKC to cover as the score went up, thinking
that they wouldn’t lose by more than 40 or 50 points. People were
even hammering +60. They lost by 73 points, so even +70 was a losing
bet.

Even without Shai or Giddey, they still have some talented players on that
team. That game was highly suspect. Okc didn’t try at all.

of course it will be different with booker back.

but it will also be different when klay is back. and when wiseman is back.

this has turned into a great rivalry this season, though. christmas game gonna be fire.

It's a wildcard how much adding them to the rotation improves them or alters their strategy.

Adding those two could make the Dubs the Death Star again. Or do they both struggle to match the chemistry of the team as it is now? Time will tell, I suppose.

For as good as the league has been over the last few years, there weren't any good rivalries. As you said, there's a real potential for a hotly-contested one between these two teams.

Of course, everyone's favorite flat earther would change the equation, but as it stands, the Bulls got the formula. and the Spurs caught them on a back to back.

On back to back games the favorite is not winning
or covering that second game.

I personally think they need another shooter, but I think keeping Rubio as the sixth man is smart...but if the chance is there to build depth, who would you want?

I agree that they need another shooter and how Rubio is being utilized is smart.

Okoro is only in the position he is in because of Sexton being out for the season.

I think this season's ceiling is PLAYOFFS, rather than play-in.
An important offseason (and draft) is coming up and I think that's going to be the best way to add talent unless a home run deal is there.

I am personally up for the idea of the Cavs making different G-League decisions and adding James Ennis to the bench this season.

For now, Okoro needs to have the experience to build up the offensive side of the ball.

But since we're here, hot take time. And I'm gonna go Basa with it:

Ja Morant is the better athlete, one of my favorite players in the league, a bonafide star. From jump, you knew he was going to be special.

Darius Garland is a star in the making. he contributes to a more winning mode of basketball than Ja.

Garland, Mobley, Allen are the confirmed core. A wing needs to emerge (above Cedi's level -- Cedi has improved greatly now that he's BACK in his proper role)

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

if *this* is the situation now i'm concerned what the league is going to look like when omicron inevitably takes hold and positivity spikes.
