Open offer to anyone reading this:

Anyone who has conviction in believing the Lakers won't be a Top 3 seed in the West can bet me. Doesn't have to be money either, since some on here don't like betting money with people on here, I'm fine with that-- it can be a flair bet, sig bet, whatever you'd like.

If anyone on here would like to just talk shit about the Lakers, regardless of the reality of how good they'll be, I get that, 100%. But if anyone *actually* earnestly thinks they won't be Top 3 seed in the West good? I'm here.

Abort.

You have a roster full of streaky, low IQ players, and several injury prone players.
Father Time never loses.

The odds are HIGHLY staked against you. You better off throwing
your little dollars at crypto or NFT.

Frankie, don’t do this to yourself, especially with that seasonal Duke L also
around the corner.

their season is going to be so weird. I feel that if they are healthy at the end of the season, which is obviously going to be the plan, they can make a run...but in order to get there, I think they will have to concede games at times...but what you have going for you is the Clips are quietly a mess without Kawhi. But that leaves the Dubs and the Suns and I say they aren't going to finish in front of both of them...which is what they need if they are going to be a top 3 seed. But as they say, the games must be played.....

I think the Jazz, Suns, Lakers, and Warriors are the teams most likely to top 50 games won this year. And I have *some* questions about the Suns in terms of regression (last year, they were essentially perfect in terms of play and lack of injuries, especially down the stretch) and this Ayton situation... and I have *some* questions about the Warriors in terms of the Klay re-introduction and the center position play against certain teams. (Though the Bjelica signing obviously looked brilliant tonight, lol.)

So I like the odds of the Lakers making Top 3. People shit on Westbrook, and I think it's fair to question how he fits in terms of the playoffs... but until last year, he hadn't been on a sub-.500 team since he was a rookie. And that includes a number of teams where he was the man. I think even if Bron or Davis misses time due to age or injury, Westbrook is a guy who can drag your team to wins. Shit, even last year, he was the main addition to the Wiz, and they won nine more games than the year prior. Even if his style isn't always conducive to playoff success, in the regular season? There's a reason he's been MVP.

They're just a perfectly constructed regular season team. They could win 55-60 games without breaking a sweat, because Mitchell is a fucking bamma, Gobert is the best defensive center since Ben Wallace, and the roster and scheme are perfectly built around those pieces. They'll once again have issues in the playoffs due to their reliance on drop coverage... but they'll win a fuckton regular season.

After that... I think the Lakers, Suns, and Warriors (assuming health) are pretty clearly the next three in some order. And I think Westbrook makes this a 50+ win team, which makes them a good bet for a top 3 seed imo.

But I didn't like what I saw from the playcalling preseason, I'm not convinced the coaching change is a net positive in the first year, and I don't think they improved their roster the way many other teams in the West did.

Scary to bet against Luka... but they're basically one Porzingis stumble from the play-in, imo.

My scariest one is the Raptors. I'm basically just betting that last year was a fluke caused by playing away from home all year and the wild injuries they faced. Still don't think Siakam can be the #1 option on a genuine playoff series winner... but I think he's good enough to be the #1 option on a .500 team in the East regular season. We'll see.

With a healthy Lowry playing at a high level, I could see them winning 50+.

If he misses a lot of games or starts to be semi-washed, then under would seem a pretty safe bet.

So while I'd happily bet on them winning a playoff series, I also feel pretty good about them finishing under 50 wins. Lowry would have to really be on one all season long to drag them there. Because Butler's gonna miss his customary 20-25 games.

Like, they were on pace for 45 wins in an 82 game season last year. The question here is... do I think Lowry and Markieff Morris are 4 *regular season* games better than Goran Dragic, Kendrick Nunn, Trevor Ariza, and Precious Achiuwa? Playoff games, I'd def rather have Lowry and Morris... but I'm not convinced those two in and the other four out make the Heat four full regular season wins better than they were last year.

Especially since the majority of the teams in the East got better imo. Of the bottom nine teams in the East last year, the Wizards are the only team I look at and think they definitely won't be better. The bottom five of the West should easily be worse than the bottom five of the East imo.

Bam and Herro will improve... but I suspect they'll do what they did last year again, where they look bad at times, especially early, while they settle for jumpers and figure out some of their rhythms, and then they'll kick it into high gear in order to avoid the play-in.

remains to be seen how Ayton handles this contract adversity. but Book and Bridges gained playoff experience and got better in the off-season. if CP3's body holds up, Phoenix replicates last regular-seasons dominance.

I just hope that Thibs gives Jerico Sims some minutes before Nerlens and Mitch are fully healthy.

Quentin Grimes is going to show out, and eventually, Miles McBride too.

D. Rose is in midseason form, and I hope Kemba is able to recover fully.

Mr. Big Shot Juls is on his way to another All NBA year.

THIBS. Use the minutes wisely. Repeat, use the minutes wisely.

Like sure they're on top of the NBA.com power rankings, etc.

But Giannis is on a legit trajectory for a top 10 all time career right now, and in his prime, AND now with all the confidence of getting over the hump?

Yes, sure - they benefitted as all other title teams do from circumstances beyond their control...but I could easily see them running over the Nets.

They ain’t got nothing else on that squad, Mills is just having

No way in hell is Brooklyn winning anything.

Bucks repeating. Too focking deep...they get Divencenzo back

He's over-thinking on every play. It's gonna take a while before this Laker team gels. Really want to see them whole (with Nunn, THT, Ellington & Ariza) -- but the depth is clearly better this year.

'Melo's going to be a key piece for this squad - especially in the playoffs.

But early season Russ is who he is.

This team is weird. Not sure how they all fit together without the full team - and even then. But yeah they're lucky as shit in this game right now as the W's are missing wide open looks and bunnies.

Of course it's nice to see Bron and AD doing what they do but my goodness Frank NEVER run Russ and Rondo together again

Lakers need to keep it that way.

But when you get this two-way level of effort from AD - he's an absolute difference maker.

I feel the same way every year.

The offseason has become more and more entertaining and soap opera like but it's never the same as having the TV on, my laptop open, sitting on my couch, and typing a bunch of nonsense on this board with those of you who are still here.

It's only gone like what....4 months or whatever but it's just nice to have it back.

I get why they went with THT - but Caruso is a significant loss. He meshed with Bron exceptionally well and consistently made momentum-shifting plays; elite perimeter defense. Chicago got a real one.

THT got a lot to live up to - but I do think his ceiling is higher than Caruso's.

Maybe part of it was due to adrenaline / emotions bc of the ring ceremony, but they looked the most cohesive and Giannis just looked so comfortable and in command.

They say after a player gets their first ring they get better bc theyre more confident and start trying and unlocking new facets of their game and you can see it with the Greek Freak..he's going to go down top 10 all time when he's finished, easily.

And they did so tonight. The Lakers looked lost on some of their rotations-- not a surprise that the only two players returning to the Lakers were the only ones who looked comfortable Game 1-- and if any team is designed to pick that apart, it's the Warriors. I actually thought the Lakers' on-ball defense was largely good-- they forced turnovers, got Curry off his shooting rhythm a bit-- but Curry and Green are both players that can still hurt you in so many ways without making shots.

And if Poole, Bjelica, and Iguodala combine for 18-32 and 7-17 from 3 every game... then yeah, everyone's gonna look bad against them, lol. I expect that to regress some, obviously, but it's a major credit to the Dub's passing game that they were able to so consistently get good looks on the extra pass or on the post-PnR kicks for their supporting players.

The Lakers will obviously be fine once all the new pieces find their rhythm, figure out their rotations, and get more comfortable. I do think their overall team defense will take a hit til Ariza and THT get back-- guys like Carmelo and Malik Monk really just won't ever be net positive defenders. I'd honestly give Austin Reaves more spin early in the season, he's not going to be the best wing defender, but he'd hustle his balls off.

so there's that.

wiggins was quiet, mostly, but hit a couple big threes when needed.

bjelly is that dude. love his playmaking. that was cool when him and dray were in at the same time.

jorn poole continued balling out. only had, maybe 2 'youthful exhuberances' (he was 50/50 between them and good plays last year, so this is major progress).

he gonna be making noise in his own right.

JTA got abused twice by davis but fought and played well. knocked down some open 3s.

steph was off, but still impacted the game. his gravity is not wasted this year. he's pulling 2 players and he has multiple shooters AND passers around him. that equals dunks.

and wait till he and dray have wiseman and kuminga to lob to.

moody played well. kerr was like, naw, as far as putting him in in crunch time, but he did well in that short stint in the 2nd.

porter was quiet. hopefully he'll have a lot more games like preseason when he comes in and heats it up.

if he and steph were knocking down shots tonight, it would have been a 20+ point game.

iggy looked REAL good. if he can consistently knock down wide open threes... that's gonna be tough. also, he still got them southphillyhands (c) dr claw on defense.

i remain hyped for this season.

oh. s/o to damian lee. he just goes about his business and does shit that needs to be done.

peace & blessings,

Because they're two of the best passing bigs in the league (with Green being one of the best passing bigs in the history of the game, obviously). If both are out there hitting movers and cutters that effectively... goddamn, it's gonna be pretty to watch (as it was tonight).

it really was. bjeli had that drive where he got ran off the 3pt line, drove, faked the pass to damion lee in the post, and then, in the air, kicked it out to wiggins(?) in the corner and i think porter did a pin-down screen and they hit the 3???

that was so pretty. once they are surrounded w/ shooters, that is gonna be a problem. the pick and pop game w/ him and steph or poole should be filthy.

w/ fans in stands like it's 2019. Buzz is back in the arenas.

Giannis got the Juice now. Feels like he's shifting into another gear this year w/ his game. Disrespectful to not have the Bucks rated at top of the mountain. Mills was a huge pickup for Brooklyn - especially with Kryie out.

GS did a great job of rebuilding their complementary roster. This dude Bjelica was eating the Laker frontcourt up in the 2nd half at will. When Klay & Wiseman come back GS will be right in the elite mix in the West. Dangerous squad.

Lakers chemistry project will have to gel on the fly - and it'll clearly take time - especially when you have 4 key rotational guys already out due to injuries. Bron & AD boss'd out tonight though - and if they can play like that consistently? They'll be more than alright.

Gotta give Russ his time & space to figure it out - because that was one of the worst games I've ever seen him play tonight. He hasn't really played in the pressure cooker in a *long* ass time. This isn't a situation where he's not expected to do anything (like many years in OKC and certainly on Washington) - it's bright lights every night and high expectations. Will take a while for him to adjust.

and -10 with Monk on the floor. Neither player can guard a lamp post,
and Westbrick had over 3 TOs as predicted.

No other player on the court for either team had negative double digit +/-
numbers.

Warriors were +20 with Bjelica on the floor.

Also, Lebron and AD were the only lakers to score in double digits, and they
combined for close to 50 FG attempts, around 25 shots a piece. There are no other

That seems pretty definitive!

Luckily for Morey, the Wizards are going to suck. If Beal hasn’t signed an extension in the next two months, the Wiz will absolutely need to trade him. So seems like he’ll be the biggest obvious piece available for teams come January 2022. It’ll then come down to if the Wiz have any interest in Simmons or if they’d rather take on expiring deals and picks instead.

A mix of young athleticism and great passing ability mixed with improved shooting and higher basketball IQ. Poole really does have the potential to be a problem. Iggy looked like it was 2017. And Bjelica could make us really dangerous. We're going to be better than many people expect.

A lot I wass going to say has already been said. Especially continually thinking Bjelica was David Lee (probably aided by Damion Lee being on the floor at the same time).

Good and possibly promising start to the season. Hoping we can continue it at home against the Clips on Thursday.

129. "... for losing on the road to the reigning champions in Game 1?"
In response to Reply # 119

I thought their ball movement last year was pretty goddamn good. They averaged 27 assists per game last year. Yeah, the defense is bad, but they were the #1 offense in the NBA last year, and they took the eventual champions to 7 games with 1.5 of their 3 stars on the floor. If they win that last game, there's an exceedingly real chance they win the title even with broken Harden and no Kyrie.

Yeah, it devolved into iso last night, but it was largely because the Nets were having all sorts of trouble playing inside the 3-point line. They shot 38% from 2 last night-- and last season, they led the NBA in 2P%, shooting nearly 57% inside the arc. They also got smooshed on the glass, so all credit is due to Milwaukee's interior defense (aka mostly to Giannis, lol) for disrupting any semblance of Brooklyn penetration. So once Milwaukee loses its best on-ball perimeter defender in Jrue, I get why they just wanted to spread it out and let their stars go to work 1v1. It didn't work-- but Milwaukee was just at home and humming. I don't think this is a reason to panic.

So I think it's way premature to fry Nash. If Durant and Harden are both healthy, they should be favored to make it out of the East, even though the Bucks will obviously still give them a series. The Nets' concern should be that the Bucks' bench is way improved this year, so if they're deeper... it's even more important that the Nets get Kyrie back, because the margin for error in that series without Kyrie is likely pretty small.

And the next favorite from the East isn't really close in odds. So if you don't believe in Brooklyn, or you believe Kyrie is essential for Brooklyn, then picking Milwaukee back-to-back makes a lot of sense. I put money on a Milwaukee back-to-back based purely on value (and the fact that I have a lot of playoff questions about many of the contenders in the East).

Yeah, I mean, if the Nets are, like, at-risk of being a play-in playoff team after a quarter of the season? Sure. Fire Nash. I just think there's no chance of that happening. It'd take something bizarre for the Nets to not be a Top 3 seed in the East, and realistically a Top 2 seed in the East (I'm a lot higher on Atlanta than most, in full disclosure).

I also think this Kyrie malarky is gonna buy Nash a lot of time because there's an obvious scapegoat. If they disappoint? "Kyrie was a distraction!" If they win it all? "Nash did it!" From a narrative perspective, he's in awesome shape thanks to Kyrie, lol.

If Kyrie gets vaxxed early on, in the next month or so, and they aren't a Top 2 seed, or they lose the East with all three dudes on the floor? He'll probably get fired. But again, I just don't see any of these situations happening. I'd be very surprised if Nash isn't the coach next season.

The one thing that *can* really fuck up Nash is if he and Harden don't get along. Because Harden hasn't signed that extension yet, and that's the top priority for the Nets right now.

w/o 'Rie, I think being lower than a 3 seed is reasonable
A few teams made some big improvements to their rosters in the east
CHI, MIA, WAS
Then you have the playoff teams from last year; MIL, ATL, BOS
PHI will get the Simmons thing resolved too

I'm of the opinion that 'Rie's antics are part of the HC's duty to resolve
IMO, he's showing a complete lack of respect for the organization

"The one thing that *can* really fuck up Nash is if he and Harden don't get along. Because Harden hasn't signed that extension yet, and that's the top priority for the Nets right now."

Yeah, not signing the extension hits different
He forced his way out of HOU...to his preferred destination
Has to be a reason he's not signing the extension
If it's Nash, that's easy math

IRT the MIL, I was just illustrating how talking heads changed their predictions after game 1

BKN is the back to back on paper champ
If they finish out of the top 3 and exit the offs early, I expect Nash to be gone
I guess the reason for my post is I expect that to happen and just wonder when he starts to get called on it

I think, if KD and Harden are both fully healthy, it's gonna be hard to justify lower than Top 3, because, like, a LaVine/Vucevic pair or a Beal/Dinwiddie pair just shouldn't be winning more games than a KD/Harden pair. Even Tatum/Brown, honestly, though I think both are exceptionally good young talents... they aren't a *pair of MVPs* at the end of the day, y'know?

>I'm of the opinion that 'Rie's antics are part of the HC's
>duty to resolve
>IMO, he's showing a complete lack of respect for the

I think it's fair to say that Nash should wear at least some of these problems around his neck... but it definitely feels like the organization and players are happy to just let Kyrie take the blame if shit goes south with their whole "hey, it's his choice to not play" response. It also feels like the population of NBA watchers as a whole has just roundly accepted "... yeah, Kyrie does his own thing wherever he goes, so I don't think there's anything Marks or Nash could've done here." And maybe they're right.

>Yeah, not signing the extension hits different
>He forced his way out of HOU...to his preferred destination
>Has to be a reason he's not signing the extension
>If it's Nash, that's easy math

Yeah, it'd have to be either problems with Nash or problems with Durant... and Brooklyn would much rather can Nash than lose Durant, lol. So even if Harden *does* leave because he's not feeling Durant, it's still probably Nash's ass end of the day.

>IRT the MIL, I was just illustrating how talking heads changed

Well yeah, talking heads suck, generally, lol. Anyone changing any preseason predictions after one game deserves to be instantly clowned.

I think there were two main schools of thought going into this season in the East:
1. Brooklyn is the clear favorite, with or without Kyrie.
2. Brooklyn is the favorite... but without Kyrie, Milwaukee's clearly right there with them.

I've always been in Camp 2 personally. KD and Giannis are my Top 2 MVP candidates, and Brooklyn and Milwaukee are my Top 2 title contenders. How that shakes out end of the day... there's still a loooong way to go. But yeah, talking heads were probably back on TV after the Heat game saying "see? the Bucks AREN'T the favorites!" lol

These first 3-5 games they should win,
but I expect them to play .500 ball until the all star break.
3 new starters to work in plus an completely new 2nd unit.
That's going to take a while to build chemistry, but preseason looked promising.

In fact LaVine didn't have to take over in order to save the game.
That 2nd game against Cleveland, DDR had a great 1Q but struggled in the 2Q.
3Q comes, and LaVine goes off for 12 points.
In the past, it would have been up to LaVine to go off to prevent a loss.

That'd be a dozen win improvement over last year. If they can win 45+ and avoid the play-in entirely, then Billy will be a Top 3 COY candidate, if not the top candidate.

I definitely think they're play-in bound, but that'd still be a huge step in the right direction in an East that's considerably rebuilt.

43-45 would be a great season and more importantly,
enough to convince LaVine to sign a max contract this summer.
With the cap going up in a few years, signing him now is gonna look genius.

the organization decided to spend on good players and build around him. he's THE man on what should be a good team that will get better with time. he's finally playing for an organization that is competent from the top down. everything is more or less perfect for him at the moment. helps too that he's in a major market with a dedicated worldwide fanbase.

They SHOULD be in that window based on the talent that has
been acquired. Their Backcourt defense, which was atrocious last year,
is new and improved. So opposing teams should find it tough with
getting penetration into the paint.

The biggest concern is interior defense. Donovan stated that the Bulls
will play a lot of small ball due to the team being undersized, so Williams
might even play the 5 on some nights. I don’t know about that.
If the Bulls can’t keep bigs off the board or protect the rim, it’s going to be a
long season.

The Bulls should be top 5/10 in scoring this season, and they should lead
the league in steals.

I’m still not a big Lavine fan, but hopefully playing on TEAM USA during the summer
has matured his game, and that he is better with protecting the ball.

The guard defense was tremendous and what got us this win.
Ayo provided a spark, and played both sides of the ball.

Ball, Ay0, Caruso, and Zack were all tremendous.

Vucevic was terrible on both sides of the ball , and Detroit was doing whatever
they wanted to in the paint. Derozan’s defense is suspect, and really wasn’t
helping out on defense. Hopefully, he plays better defensively in the next game.
We know he can score.

This was a good, solid win on the road, but the true test will
be against a good team that has a huge inside presence.

I know Tatum is supposed to be the fifth coming of baby Jesus, but when I look at the C's to see who got that dawg in them, Smart and Brown and Time Lord are the guys.

Jalen Brown came in off of quarantine and put 46 on us in MSG opening night. That to me is alpha behavior.

Tatum may end up averaging 25, 5 and 6, but if I need a bucket....I'm giving the ball to Brown.

Do you know how many times Tatum has taken over games in the 4th
or in OT?

Their problem is they never dominate games as a tandem. One night it’s Tatum,
the next it’s Brown.

Watch Tatum go off in the next game, and Brown’s game will be dormant.

has been there....he just couldn't do certain things.

With Tatum, he has all the skills - the J, the footwork, finishing in the paint, all that shit....but it routinely disappears because if the J isn't going...he locks into that and then drifts. I remember him getting hot in the bubble and whatnot.

Its like dude don't realize he could dominate just going downhill to the rim all night.

Jaylen Brown didnt always have the skills. He has the athleticism and the attacking mentality, but sometimes couldn't hit the side of a barn. Now that is no longer a problem.

together.

You know what people were saying about Jordan in the 80's?

"Man, if he had a squad like Nique or Zeke or Larry, it would be OVER."

That's what people said about Jordan. He was playing with Granville T Waiters and such.

Michael Jordan never looked like he was unmotivated to attack or do what was necessary to win. His J might not have been automatic in 1985, but it sure as fuck was in the playoffs, no matter who he was running with.

Going to be a long tough season for us so losses don't matter like Surf not having third rounds.

Someone is burning jerseys if Koby swings for the fences and trades for the guy in Philly.

Already, he has made an impact on both sides of the ball. So glad they were able to get him.

Jarrett Allen, also good at basketball.

Darius Garland... good on the offensive side.

I like Lauri at the 3, BUT defensively, it tells me that the quest for a proper SF is priority number 1.

Team defense over all is ass. Can't have Lauri and Love line ups too frequently. From one possession to down 10 happened far too much tonight.

Koby better not trade for Ben, a no-spacing option which would wipe out about 3 active players from the roster would tank this team.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

We saw in that first game, Ja Morant was DROOLING at how many bigs Cleveland had on the floor. There are too many guards and athletic wings who will just blow past dudes and crush dudes in iso if they play so much size/lack of speed on defense.

I just don't think there's a world in which they pay all the money due to Sexton with Garland's payday coming up. You'd be committing to a 6'/6'1 backcourt going forward, which just... has zero chance to contend. Portland has one of the best guards of the modern era and a borderline all-star beside him, and even they haven't *really* sniffed actual contention.

and in light of all the Koward and Simmons drama, my respect for him has gone through the roof.

A lot of overreactions here based on one game into the season lol

He's a modern NBA 5 and needs to play that position.

IRT Russ, I like the idea of him coming off the bench

I'm not sure what his role is as a starter
He's not a shooter
Bron needs the ball

Let Russ come off the bench and do Russ type things.

but it takes time. When LeBron first went to Miami - they started the season 9-8. When he went back to Cleveland - that team was essentially playing .500 basketball for the first quarter of the season. Both teams went on make the Finals nonetheless.

Lot of talk about Russ accepting a 6th man role - but it's way too early to even think about that IMO. Vogel should definitely stagger minutes later in the game so that Russ can be out there doing his thing when Bron is resting, but both Russ & Bron pass at an elite level...once they find their groove I actually think they will play well with each other - particularly in the open court.

In response to Reply # 182

If he doesn't change, all that means is they likely don't use him as often at the ends of close games, since all close games will end with Bron/AD two-man game and, ideally, three shooters waiting for the pass. If he wants to consistently play in those moments, then sure, he's gotta figure out better off-ball skills.

But if he doesn't? Russ runs transition offense. Lakers were one of the slowest teams in the NBA last year, because Bron simply can't bust ass up the court like that anymore. But you know who can? One of the best transition basketball players in the world over the last decade plus. Bron can jog up the floor (or spend time on the bench, thank god for him) while Russ sprints like a bat out of hell up and down the court, driving, kicking, etc. Having a *literal* change of pace would be fucking huge for the Lakers.

And even when they're on the floor together, it's only gonna be a detriment in half-court sets if they have Russ and another non-shooter (Rondo, for instance) on the floor. We saw Russ and Rondo together a little during that Warriors game, and the defense just packed in as hard as it fucking could, lol. Vogel just has to figure out the right rotation pieces. If Russ and Bron are out there together, it needs to be all shooters like Monk and them. If one of Russ or Bron aren't on the court, you can play guys like Rondo or some of the more defense-first guys alongside.

But yeah, Russ has such obvious regular season value for the Lakers. Anyone overreacting to one bad Russ game... isn't familiar with the last decade plus of Russ basketball, lol. He lays an egg sometimes. Other times he's gonna go for 45-15-20 and singlehandedly drag a team to victory in some spot against a middling team when other stars might mentally take a night off, lol.

... the fans INVARIABLY are that much more obnoxious.

Like, maybe people forget, but Florida fans under Billy Donovan, especially once they won back-to-backs, were among the most intolerable basketball fans in history. Or when Gary had the Terps relevant for the first time in nearly two decade around Y2K, those fans went from garden-variety annoying to nuclear.

and the legalization of weed ( as you stated), and throw in the
fact that New York is a melting pot of people of so many different
cultures and backgrounds ( first, second and 3rd generation americans).

These aren’t the beer drinking or cigarette smoking New Yorkers of the 70s, 80s or 90s.

I lived in New York for six years, and the overzealous emotion towards the slightest
situation was glaring. Being from Chicago, and seeing and hearing so much
violence, I didn’t really have time to sweat the small things in life.

That goes for Boston and Philly as well.

with weed being legal, you have young people being able to gain access.
It’s similar to when prohibition was lifted on alcohol. That had a huge affect
on high schoolers and college students.

Drugs affect behavior in so many different ways, and the smoking of marijuana
has increased tremendously.

There is a USA Today article on the growing addiction of marijuana
in America, and how it is affecting the behavior of society.

So the poster has a point.

It’s wild how people think marijuana is some harmless little drug.

You’d think we’re coming off a 60 win championship season. During the 90s I think people hated the actual team and were indifferent about the fans. Maybe these productions have more cameras and mics on the crowd

Yankees were like 3 rings in when the fan base became annoying on a national level.

in terms of team success.

this hawks team is deep with the starters and a few bench players capable of easily putting up 10-20 on any given night. and they play d.

this mavs team just looks like more of the same. easily beatable when luka isnt having a lights out night and still pretty beatable even when he is. i could see kidd and luka wearing on each other as the season continues if they perform below expectations.

Great shooting by both teams ( mainly Steph for the Warriors)....

If I’m not mistaken, Clippers were the best or second best 3pt shooting
team last year. Everybody on that team can stroke it.

Clips might just get over the hump this year and get a chip.

I was relieved when I saw that he wasn't a point guard.

I think this Knicks team is going to get torched by top tier point guards this season based on what I saw in the Boston game. Any top level point guard that can penetrate and/or draw double teams by breaking down the wing defense will give the Knicks serious problems.

As improved as Barrett's defense was in the first game, I don't think his lateral movement is good enough to deal with smaller and shiftier point guards. Hopefully I will be proved wrong as the season progresses.

Doc should’ve challenged the foul/charge on Durant - which led to a 3 pound swing. Danny Green not just missed two open 3 pointers, he missed badly, which led to easy transition points. Pretty bad chokejob.

If there’s any positive to take it’s that the Sixers held the lead for about 98% of the game and were without Simmons and Shake Milton. Also, Embiid sat for much of the 4th quarter and had a really off night.

If only the Sixers kept Bridges instead of stupidly trading him for Zaire Smith, they’d have a legit lineup (he’d replace Danny Green).

He’ll play well and put up numbers there. Don’t think he’ll be a top player on a good team level guy though.

smooth out the gate. Coaching in the NBA is more about managing egos than X's O's, sometimes you have to let players trying it their then when it doesn't work they have to listen to the coach. Phil did that in Chicago and LA, Spoelstra in Miami, Kerr to a certain extent in GS.

Doc Rivers' Celtics are the only team in NBA history with multiple All-Stars to just come out the gate humming because Doc had them on that Unbutu shit and KG specifically bought in he set the tone early he could've came in and said "I'm KG, I'm an MVP, I gotta get my 20, 10 & 5!" but he didn't he came in and said he didn't care about offensive numbers he wanted to focus on defense and that set the tone for the entire team.

I watched some preseason and we had all these new fresh actions and stuff in the scheme. And then the regular season hits and these dudes abandoned all that shit to come out playing streetball and not even trying on defense. I know we have some injuries but Vogel isn’t even trying to put out logical lineups based on what we have.

Deandre should not be playing at all. He should never play when Russ is in
Why is Reeves nailed to the pine now. He’s ready.
Monk and Melo cannot play together. Monk needs to start instead of Deandre for spacing purposes

None of them are available right now for whichever reason. The question is: can Vogel (and LeBron) be patient/competent enough for that moment to come?

Russ should never be on the floor with Rondo in any lineups.Ideally, Russ should SPLIT "Lebron on the Bench" time with Rondo. And both of them need the same sort of people on the floor with them. Really, Rondo is back of the bench with this roster. There so you don't have a younger player bullshitting when playmaking is needed.

I straight up forgot DeAndre was on the Lakers until I saw him the other night.

Things get better when THT, Ariza, Ellington, and especially Nunn get back. Nunn will probably be starting when he's back. Melo and Monk probably won't be in the same lineups after those guys are all back.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

leadership thing on a championship contender. You can't scream on 35y/o future HOF'er the same way you did with KCP and Kuzma. He could've waited and said whatever he had to say in the locker room, not in the Staples Center in front of the world in the 2nd game of the regular season, its not like it was a playoff game. LeBron will school him to that and I wouldn't be surprised if we see AD come out and publicly apologize.

You know there is already tension between these 2 about the 75th team shit. You know all those guys are sitting around talking about it watching all the sports shows talking about it and all the memes just like we are. I wouldn't be surprised if dudes like CP3 and Crowder did some sneak dissing on the low to stir it up.

I think this team is going to be Lebron's biggest leadership challenge. Its harder to leader a team of veteran stars than young guys especially if they are mostly all new to this team.

When Lebron is your best 3pt shooter on the floor, you have a problem.
Lakers mainly have streaky shooters. They can’t consistently hit threes
like the Clippers, Warriors, Jazz, Nuggets or the Suns.

The land of big names and big players, but no shooting. The Suns game
was just like the Warriors games, every player being able to hit from
3, leading to blowing the lakers out the building.

They play Memphis next. That might be a loss as well, because Melton, Bane
and Jackson can stroke it.

Now their schedule gets relatively easy for the next half dozen games or so. When you watch GSW and Phoenix play - they know exactly who they are/what they want to run and have the benefit of familiarity/chemistry. Lakers overhauled their entire roster and can't expect to have a semblance of continuity until at least 15-20 games into the season.

Nonetheless, last night was really ugly. Lakers have so much work to do.

... there's, like, Milwaukee, GSW, Phoenix, Utah, and Denver. That's it. Those teams are likely to give teams with new roster constructions fits in the first few games of the season.

A young hungry Grizzlies team at home, a team even the Lakers in this state should beat, should tell us a lot about how the next few weeks will go, I'd think.

Agreed. The Griz game tomorrow will be an interesting one - and also an important one for the Lakers to try and build some momentum going into this relatively soft part of their schedule.

lakers overhauled their roster, and last year’s roster was
better than this year’s roster. The skillsets of Harrell, Kuzma,
Drummond, Caruso,Pope, and Dennis are collectively far superior
than those of the new players on this year’s roster.

They were younger and more offensively/ defensively skilled,
and the lakers still lacked chemistry and harmony as a unit.

Will you ever give an impartial opinion on Lebron and the Lakers,
or will it forever be influenced by you simply being a fanatic?

Last year's roster was essentially brand new as well - and they started to play great basketball towards the end of the year before the injuries decimated them. They were up 2-1 on the Western Conf. champions and the consensus was that they were going to coast if they stayed healthy -- but they weren't healthy. Bron was hobbled and AD was seriously hurt. If they stayed healthy that team could've marched deep into the playoffs.

Way too early to conclusively say that last year's roster was more balanced/complete than this year - but of course - you're the king of premature, poorly thought out analysis - so it's on-brand. Lakers don't even have Nunn/THT/Ellington & Ariza yet. Relax.

Every year you go over the top and become nonsensical about Lebron and
the Lakers. You said they were going to win the chip last season. It
didn’t happen ( you don’t say?).

You’re not even a Lakers fan or follower. You’re just a Lebron squire,
which is a mental disorder in itself, and no matter what team he plays
for, you will sound off foolishly and ignorantly about how the team
is constructed, and how they will perform throughout the season.

You can’t even be honest about Lebron’s legacy, and how other player’s
legacies are far superior. You have a disease, and it inhibits your ability
to SEE CLEARLY.

I can’t wait to hear your non-factual takes on the Lakers
1 month from now when they are still playing like crap.

Stay VEXed.

And the poster I was agreeing with didn’t state that either.

He stated that the rambunctious behavior of young New York fans could

I said that the poster has a point, and elaborated further.

But of course you would sensationalize the matter, because your

Anyway, that has nothing to do with the subject at hand...thanks for your

The Chicago Bulls are the OKC Thunder of a year ago,
but more offensively prolific.

Lonzo’s defense is Gary Payton like. He is one smart
player.

The pressure that we put on guards and forwards is vicious....

Our point guard put up 4 blocks!

316. "Evan Mobley continues to be good at basketball."
In response to Reply # 0

Cavs finally get a win, against Atlanta, held to 95.

Now don't get me wrong, the TEAM is not good. So many missed shots off WIDE OPEN looks. defense suffers but they did the right thing in the 2nd half for the most part.

But some individual triumphs:

Evan Mobley is looking more and more like the real deal. On a team that is not good overall, he is affecting the defense single handedly.

Had 17pts/11 rebounds against ATL, add 1 assist and 4 blocks. He was actually guarding Trae Young effectively. A 7 footer!

Ricky Rubio pulled through with some clutch buckets toward the end and keeping the team calmed down in crunch time.

Sexton (who is only spending time at PG because Garland is out) should have had 10 assists, but the majority were bricks off wide open looks. He's making good decisions and playing within the offense, creating opportunities for others with his speed and the threat to go to the hoop or shoot the 3, which is all I can ask for. He was in foul trouble through most of the 4th.

Markannen. Man... he misses way too many wide open looks to be desired right now. With Kevin Love doing the same (to be fair, he was much more engaged and contributing in key spots against ATL), this is going to be painful.

The sooner Okoro can play in his proper position, the better. He plays good defense, but offensively, he's as far from ideal.

Always drafting BPA would have had the Cavs looking like the Kings right now, which I'm sure isn't that far off. They have a better set of guards overall than we do. But the rest of the team outside of Harrison Barnes (who I would welcome here with open arms now)...

Rough road stretch coming up, starting with the Nuggets. The gotdamn Lakers and Clippers on the list. A Charlotte rematch to end it. This is about to be a row of Ls.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

He was BALLING for Spain. He's done well here. Better when this team tightens up and Garland comes back, so he can play a more regular amount of minutes.

Some of his shot selection is frustrating, but over all, not mad but glad at his presence.

think he has either tied or broken a record for 3PM made by a rookie by 8, dropped 30.

the Rockets getting both Sengun and Green may make up for the loss of Harden. Still not in a place where I think they can win games, but at this stage they're in a good place.

Josh Giddey had 19pts/8rebs/7asts/4 steals... damn!!
Maybe the Thunder did know what they were doing.
They are essentially a G-League team in the NBA right now, but those are some good numbers playing in that situation.

I love that they seem to be just going for an all-versatility lineup, focusing on versatile players who can all handle, pass, and create. Giddey was a little lower on my board than where he was picked, but the match makes perfect sense, and I'm not surprised to see him shining already. His passing for his age is absolutely bonkers.

you said you liked the pick. He's a dynamo. Kid is slick. He and Shai have the greenest of lights to do whatever the fuck they want, too. I worry about the losing, though. We lost by 600 points to Houston, Friday. Last night Shai and Josh went at Philly would all they had and it's just not enough. We're going to lose SO much. I don't want that glimmer in Shai's eye to get extinguished. He's such a cool kid and he loves to ball and he loves the city.
