I'm sure they want more access to southeast recruits & eyeballs but the B10 footprint is huge too. and other than Ohio State you dont have anyone else to worry about.

Joining the SEC would mean Texas would continue its downward slide of competitiveness. Oklahoma would be okay, probably similar results to aTm.

I also can’t see the other SEC schools wanting this because including Texas and Oklahoma would mean a major realignment of their current divisions and would probably result in traditional rivalries being upset.

Like will said below, Texas makes the rules in the Big 12, I'm surprised they'd ever want to leave - but if they did, wouldn't they rather form the money team with Michigan-Ohio State-Nebraska-Oklahoma-Texas and just rule the central tract of the country? And Oklahoma, regionally makes sense obviously, but wouldn't they rather maintain Texas and revive Nebraska rivalries full-time rather than enter the gauntlet?

Competitively and (kind of) financially it seems a little misguided

And it also makes more sense in terms of competitiveness and it would allow the revival of her Oklahoma/Nebraska rivalry.

Lastly, I know academics take a back seat to this but Texas has more in common with Michigan and the Big 10 in terms of academics than the SEC.

Announce they are leaving the NCAA to form a super 64 team league. Then have a prime-time special where they introduce the new divisions like the NCAA tournament and leave some teams we expect out. Can you imagine they list 63 teams and then go live to Boise State, Washington State, and Utah State, and we get a live reaction as they announce the last team?

Something where you've got schools that are *always* in the tournament, with entry into the end of year tourney for select conference winners (probably from the power 5)

SEC West should become A&M, OU, Texas, LSU, Arkansas, Mizzou, Ole Miss, and Miss St

SEC East should become Bama, Auburn, Florida, UGA, Vols, Cocks, UK, and Vandy

So 7 games within the division, probably 2 with the other division, mostly to preserve *some* traditional rivalries (LSU/Auburn, Bama/LSU, tho maybe not LSU/UF), 1 creampuff game (or a strong out of conference game to boost chances for college football playoff), and 1 game for a non conference traditional rival (Florida/Florida St, UGA/Tech, Cocks/Clemson)

What a bad idea. Who's got seats? MICHIGAN. OHIO. PENNSYLVANIA. If they want an NFL tie-in, just rotate two massive college bowls and the Steelers' stadium. Or make us all go to Cleveland and Detroit every couple of years. New York?! Fuck off. I wouldn't even angle for Memorial in Lincoln here - what's a Big Ten championship in Big East country mean to anyone?

the cfb powers that be are too arrogant/ignorant to understand that a lot of people do not give a shit about their product. especially east coast cities. and especially in the outdoors in december. aint nobody showing up for that shit.

and with the proliferation of post season games at neutral sites it will be hard to even fill the stands with fans of the team. there's a limit to how people are willing to spend and travel.

look at how well the experiment went with the pac 12 playing their championship game at niners stadium.

I don’t believe a 24 team super league has enough fan/alumni support to exist. Especially as some of these blue bloods start to become the bottoms feeder teams of the new conference because someone has to be the Kansas, Rutgers, and Oregon State of the new super league.

Tennessee attendance has looked terrible lately, Texas is more likely to fall further behind and will their fans continue to support a 6-6 or 8-4 Texas?

and we were all yelling about it when it happened.

the neutral site has to at least make sense. now that Las Vegas stadium is there, i think that is where the P12 should host it, if its going to be neutral. LV is pretty easy to get to for all of the P12 schools south of Oregon... and those northern fans didnt even travel to SF! but i think that is bc of how hard it is to get there and how expensive it is to make a weekend out of it.

I still believe these games should be hosted by the best team that season, but oh well. if its neutral, host it in Vegas at least.

Giants stadium though? LOL. They'd prob get better attendance if they just said fuck it and played in the rose bowl.

It was a good idea. SF is a major tourist destination, it is in the middle of the Pac 12 territory, and it was a brand new stadium. It was a good idea but it just didn’t work for a variety of reasons, namely due to SC or UCLA not being good enough to get their while in playoff contention.

5pm on a Friday? people aren't cutting out of work for this and battling through rush hour traffic. put the game on at sat at 3pm and I think attendance would've been much better.

SF is a tourist destination but not for people looking to check out a random college football game haha. LV tourist population will work better because you'll have the attention of everyone in town looking to bet on random sporting events.

and on the subject of start times...these upcoming 9am local time starts are going to be catastrophically bad. it's like they're actively devising ways to destroy west coast football.

Cal obviously never and probably never will make it to the P12CG so it wasn’t something I ever needed or will need to worry about so I paid it no attention.

Yeah, a Friday evening start time for that game in the Bay Area was a terrible idea.

You’re right that they should have scheduled it on a Saturday at 3.

I meant SF is a tourist destination in that a CFB fan with a family can more easily justify going and taking the kids as they have other things to do and see. The family gets to do tourist stuff while also going to a game.

this is no longer the once per year treat of going to a bowl game in a fun location during the holidays when everyone is off from work and school.

they've added these neutral site conf champ games, a possible first round playoff game and then the nc.

and in the future we'll have several rounds of neutral site playoff games.

nobody has the time, interest, or financial means to go to all of these neutral site games regardless of location. like not even the die hards are down for this.

as an osu fan who has traveled to home and away games and bowl games I can tell you that at this point I have zero interest in attending any post season game that isnt a NC.

that stadium is very difficult to get to. I would lean into agreeing with 3x that the main issue was 5pm on a Friday, but truly, a Saturday game still would've seen really shitty attendance. i've never been to the stadium but i've read enough that is it a shitshow to get to. like i said - its the most expensive weekend getaway of any P12 city, by far. you alienate a lot of fans.

but with Vegas, how many schools can easily drive there? USC, UCLA, ASU, U of A, Utah, Colorado, and its about 8.5 hours away from Cal and Stanford.

so you have about 8 schools within driving distance to Vegas. plus its Vegas. i know SF is a tourist destination, but isnt the stadium an HOUR away from SF proper? im not seeing any positives of the game being in SF.

In response to Reply # 42

The issue is traffic for fans who work in the Bay Area and try to go to work on Friday and then drive down to Santa Clara from SF or east bay to get to the game.

Most fans flying in for the game probably got there early enough to make the kickoff and you can easily get their from a hotel by using public transit.

Let whatever comes up rise from the ashes.
This whole fucked up system of unpaid (now underpaid) predominately Black athletes breaking the shit out of their bodies to subsidize predominantly white athletic programs across the country and leading a predominantly white coaching class and pipeline to be the highest paid employees in their state.

Fuck the charm. Let it burn.

had some epic battles. That was during a period when almost every major program was running some form of the option. To me Holiway was the GOAT option QB. I know Tommie Frazier came later and did some superhuman shit but Holieway's mastery of all elements of the triple option was otherworldly.

But I can not wait for SEC Track or Baseball
Longhorns women gonna keep balling out in volleyball
OU gonna be fine if not better. Oklahoma has always had a pipeline to California, that’s about to improve
And Texas is about to open up theirs now. Tell them parents they don’t have to come all the way East for big league play.
I will miss Big 12 hoops though

I think the SEC/Texas/Oklahoma just had its Icarus moment and killed CFB.

If the majority of D1 programs get left behind then I could see viewership for CFB really begin to decline in the next 2-5 years.

Do the top 24 schools have the amount of fans/alums to sustain its existence and more importantly TV viewership once other CFB program fans checkout?

I can say right now, if Cal doesn’t play in a P5/Super league I doubt I’m watching CFB anymore and I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one.

I live in the South. I graduated from LSU. The years I spent there (late 90s) was very different than what LSU and the SEC is now. There were always great teams but the SEC love/hate/interest/power was nowhere near what it is now.

I can totally see how a chunk of the talent being lined up in one region AND conference is a problem for the sport as a whole. Still, I'm of the opinion that CFB has been a mess for a loooooooong time. IE: teams having light schedules on purpose. Teams milking tradition and bias to hide behind inflated preseason ranks. West coast teams being at a disadvantage when their games are on super late. Before BCS, we for real had people voting for who they thought the top team was and that was the champ..ridiculous.

This is just the newest mess. The conferences being in business for themselves was always an issue. Now there's just a different conference throwing their weight around and giving themselves advantages (and money) over everything else.

I would prefer UNC go to the SEC if the ACC ends up split up in the long run, but I feel like we will land/combine w/ the Big 10

https://twitter.com/MarcRyanOnAir/status/1422255062185910274
Per a reliable source, Clemson+Florida State have reached out to the SEC about joining the conference.

The SEC is concerned that streaming numbers for Clemson+Florida State don't bring what Oklahoma+Texas do.

Notre Dame is the only "free agent" left that would "add to the pot."
