It's funny to think about KD being bored enough to engage with these folks, because goddamn, there's just absolutely no point talking to morons about basketball.

This is one of the side effects of the 24-hour sports media talking heads hot take garbage. I realize narratives have always reigned supreme over actual analysis, but since the Skips and the Stephen As took over the airwaves, all people know are these deeply uninteresting hot take narratives that have nothing to do with the sport. And man, it's soooooo depressing.

In how many other fields of work are people considered to have a credible level of expertise with zero actual experience in the field?

You could have a show panel with a hall of fame player, a hall of fame coach, a reporter, and a podcast host...and the reporter and podcast host are treated as equal voices in the debate whenever they dispute whatever the true professionals are saying.

Quite a few actually.

If you convened a panel on great films and you chose a prestigious film critic and a director and an actor, I wouldn't necessarily value one's input over the other.

Same thing with books and a famous writer and a famous literary critic

Or if a politician and a political theorist were both discussing good governance

Etc

I guess one area that wouldn't apply to is the nuts and bolts of the job. Like, I trust that a career politician knows more than a political theorist about how you pass a bill in Congress.

Because they do that with art too. And with politics. Anything that requires some degree of craft, from sports to home repair to social reform to parenting to anything else-- there's always a billion assholes telling you, "See, here's what you gotta do."

Problem with sports, arts, and politics is the sheer proliferation of coverage on TV and online. They all need talking heads, and they all need clicks. And there's so much money funding these things.

I don't think critics or analysts are the problem-- there are plenty of insanely smart people that can tell you exactly what works and what doesn't without having *done the thing*. For sports, for instance, Sam Vecenie's a great example of a hoops podcaster I love, or the Three Man Weave podcast for college hoops, and while none of them played college on, they have fantastic insight into the game. But unfortunately for them, they're giving actual nuanced and detailed analysis. They discuss coverages, detailed skill sets, team fundamentals, statistical analysis, etc. And there's no room for that in the broader conversation. The broader conversation just wants "Is This Guy A Fraud??" There are plenty of critics and analysts doing that, unfortunately... but also plenty of former players/coaches/etc. Anyone chasing that dollar.

We just have to demand more.

You worry about this stuff anyway with athletes. But with him, the feeling like he needs to prove himself will get better or only get worse after retirement.

I just read a story where he went on a date with pornstar Lana Rhoades and he brought a backup date just in case Lana didn't give him some pussy. Moving like a sniper in all aspects. Lol.

i don't get why people get all twisted about how much KD goes back an forth with fans or whoever, if he has a burner twitter, etc.?

i mean, he does his job...at pretty much the highest level you can do it, so clearly this isn't interfering with his life.

if he wants to use his free time for this kind of shit, so what?

why do people go "I'm worried about KD" when this stuff pops up. everyone else is allowed to argue online but because KD is rich and famous, he ain't?

to me it just shows he's a regular dude with a unique skillset, and FWIW that's how he's always come across to me.

Its just asshole behavior and speaks to some deeper psychological issues. All those blank Instagram and twitter profiles trolling people online aren't normal human beings in real life. Theyre assholes.

Why does he bother? He’s not even trying to diss the Warriors and still comes off low key dissing them. It’s astonishing how bad he is at this after all these years.

I remember a year he had where he struggled (by his lofty standards). He showed some of the same passive aggressive, defensiveness then as he shows all the time now.

At the time I thought the asocial, defensive KD was the abberation and the carefree, small-town hero was the real KD.

It clearly seems the exception is really the rule.

Example #5411 that we don't know these people.

And I can't blame him. If I saw images and press of myself every hour of everyday, and heard people who play loose with journalism and have self-centered agendas attack my name, I'd want to stab someone.

But on the flipside, all of these guys have their meltdowns in the press. Some more than others. But they're all over-exposed.

1. The media coddled him
2. Russ was his shield.
The one time a media person did go after him, (the infamous, ‘Mr. Unreliable’ headline), Russ and to an extent, KD, pretty much froze Berry Tramel out (it turned out, Tramel wrote the article, but the editor added the headline.

KD was depicted as a good, quiet hope, in OKC. He visited neighborhoods that were ravaged by the tornado outbreak, had charities and restaurants in the city. It wasn’t til after he left that the internet arguing and stuff started popping up. Still think, to a degree, he was that dude. He got ultra defensive after the move to GS, because he knew what the popular opinion was about it.

Yes, the first clip is annoying AF
GSW fans don’t seem to know basketball
A double team off the ball is an illegal defense
I have no idea why they were stuck on that point…

…but the 2nd longer video (still listening) seems to be more focused…

Could this be an avenue to circumvent the networks; ESPN…?

I respect his patience and enjoyed the discussion more than anything I’ve seen broadcast recently

Here for it.

he basically insinuates KD is a boring ass guy whose life revolves around basketball, weed, listening to kyrie and arguing online. his favorite hobby is driving his tesla around manhattan and brooklyn , so he can people watch lol.

these are just random dudes he's arguing with?
