That’s it. I’m done with football.

Richard doesn’t have a track record of this type of stuff, and after
hearing that Jay Cutler interview, and how he fears that CTE will
set in sooner later, a lot of these players need serious medical
treatment.

Have a soft spot for Husker athletics. Especially pioneering NIL rights and all, but…pro football has been out for me for nearly a decade.

Use em up and throw em out. Yuck.

Not ruling out CTE but it could also be Sherman having a hard time dealing with the fear of moving on to the next chapter of his life.

you go from one of the best to “no thanks, we are going with the cheaper, young option but stay in contact”

You said Sherman has never acted like this but he has also never been a 33 year old unemployed football player either. I’m sure this offseason has been rough for him.

highly ignorant.

Had you done your research, you would have known that Richard Sherman
was recently named to the Board of Directors of an E gaming company
that is trading on the Nasdaq. Financially, he is set for life, and 2 months
ago he did an outstanding interview on ESPN with Stephen A. Smith to discuss
the great things that he is doing off the field.

https://youtu.be/Ua3_IHUG24I

He was bright, attentive, cordial, and he spoke intelligently. That was not
the appearance of a man who was worried or concerned about his future.

So your accusations are bullshit and rather disgusting, because you have zero proof
of it, and you are simply speculating.

Time and time again we see football players in these types of situations, and
people continue to ignore the truth as to why football players act in a violent way.

This man won The Walter Payton man of the year award for his
off the field contributions as a mentor, leader and humanitarian....This isn’t
some average football player who doesn’t have anything to look forward
to after football.

Please educate yourself.

football players based on sudden behavioral issues off the field. It’s a huge pattern that’s being highly ignored.

For a sudden rage to take place with a man who doesn’t have a track record of
being violent or hostile, and who has been nothing short of a class act off the field,
it’s not a simple speculation that he was depressed because he is no longer
a football player.

You made all that up.

My point is life after football is still life AFTER football.

Maybe he isn’t ready to hang up his cleats yet and hit the bottle to deal with his depression?

stop trying to present your opinion as facts. You have no idea what happened or why it happened.

which is why I’m not willing to rule out everything but CTE.

but you already lost this debate when you tried to lie and say I ruled out CTE when clearly I said it could also be related to CTE.

You’re just making up some shit ...like you are accusing of others.

His ex-wife just stated this is not his normal behavior and that he is a good human being...

The fact that you won’t even consider the possibility of CTE setting in
causing his unusual behavior is beyond irrational.

Dude drank two bottles, was talking about killing himself...he's obviously dealing with something...and the onset of CTE could definitely be involved here as well. I'm a Richard Sherman fan. I hope he gets the help he needs.

At some point we have to accept that these guys have accepted the dangers of their own game.

We're all surrounded by risks we CAN control, and we assume those risks anyway because we want to. This is really no different. Liquor, cigarettes, guns, weed...we all know this shit can be dangerous and yet we take part in these things anyway.

You want to rail against college football players risking their long-term health and not being compensated? You have my attention.

But by the time you make the NFL you know exactly what risks come with playing professional football and you're overlooking those risks in favor of exorbitant wages.

Not to say CTE isn't a thing. CTE is a thing! But by the time you've reached the level of a Richard Sherman, you're fully aware of the risks you're assuming.

In response to Reply # 16

Not that I don’t have empathy for their health but a lot of these players can walk away much earlier and still have a ridiculous amount of money compared to the average citizen.

I’m also not willing to believe that football players aren’t just like every other person in America when it comes to depression, anxiety, stress, etc and bad days like this can happen.

This idea that football players wouldn’t drink and drive or have a run in with the law if it wasn’t for CTE is misguided.

CTE is real but it can’t be the first excuse used anytime a player gets in trouble.

He's been a fantastic ambassador for the game of late and was poised for a stalwart second act. He's going through something serious. It's a shame that this is publicly known at all. I hope he gets help asap and becomes a success story that can inspire others, ala Brandon Marshall.

The only thing dumber than a football player is a baseball player. But Sherman isn't just smart for a football player, he's smart period. Positive vibes to his family.

This is behavior that's consistent with someone having an episode but you are right that it's unfair to assume that's exactly what it is.

Just saying he's by all accounts a really smart solid guy and this is obviously a break from that reputation.

1. They called it burglary because he entered the house without
permission.

2.They called it domestic violence because he was tussling with a family member.

3. They were trying to stop him from committing suicide because he
had threatened to kill himself, and sent out text messages that he was
going to hang himself.

Football players with CTE are more of a threat to themselves than they are to
family and friends....see junior seau, Dave Duerson, etc.

considering he is a football player....with the many hits he has given an taken.

0-o

And it’s no way to examine a football player for CTE while they are alive...This
is why they don’t find out until the player is dead, because they are able to fully
examine the brain. It can only be diagnosed during an autopsy ..

This is why it should be highly considered.

It was domestic abuse burglary, which is what you get charged with you attempt to force entry into the home of a family member or spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend.

CTE, life events, etc. Alcohol was involved, too. It said he fought with the police. I’m so fucking glad they didn’t kill him. Black men are killed for much less, by police. As someone who has struggled with depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts…it’s a deep dark place to be. It’s hard as fuck to get out. Shit is sad to hear, man. Him being intelligent and thoughtful in interviews doesn’t mean shit, either. Facades are real.

I have seen more than a few strong men completely broken during a separation/divorce.

We also say some crazy shit when we are drunk as hell with a broken heart.

Judge orders Richard Sherman to be released from jail without bail with several conditions

ESPN News Services
7:05 PM ET
4 Minute Read

A judge ordered free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman released from jail without bail Thursday following his arrest on suspicion of trying to break into his in-laws' home northeast of Seattle.

King County District Court Judge Fa'amomoi Masaniai found probable cause that Sherman committed four offenses: misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass in the second degree and malicious mischief in the third degree -- both carrying domestic violence designations -- and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and driving under the influence.

Prosecutors did not ask the judge for a finding on a felony residential burglary allegation for which he was initially booked. They have not yet filed charges, but a charging decision is expected as soon as Friday, according to a spokesperson with the King County prosecuting attorney's office.

Masaniai declined to set $10,000 bail as prosecutors requested. The judge called the 33-year-old Sherman, who did not attend the hearing, a "pillar of the community'' and noted that it was presumed he would be released because this was his first arrest. He ordered that Sherman not have contact with his father-in-law, that he not use alcohol or nonprescription drugs and that he not possess a weapon.

Sherman's next hearing is set for 2 p.m. PT on Friday. He does not have to be present for the hearing and can be represented by his attorney.

"I love and support my husband," Sherman's wife, Ashley Sherman, said in a statement after the hearing. "I am committed to helping Richard get the support and care that he needs. Richard has always been a loving father and husband. And we are looking forward to seeing him at home with his family.''

At Thursday's hearing, Sherman's attorney, Cooper Offenbecher, did not contest that probable cause existed for the arrest. But he said Sherman should be released without bail, noting his good works in the community, including founding the Blanket Coverage Foundation, a charity that provides low-income students with school supplies and clothes.

"Richard Sherman is among the best in our community,'' Offenbecher said. "He is a good person and a good soul. He is taking these allegations very seriously.''

Sherman was belligerent, had been drinking heavily and had spoken of killing himself when he left his home in the Seattle suburb of Maple Valley late Tuesday, according to police reports. Ashley Sherman called 911 to try to have police stop him.

He was arrested early Wednesday after police said he crashed his car in a construction zone along a busy highway east of Seattle and then tried to break into his in-laws' home in the suburb of Redmond.

His father-in-law, Raymond Moss, told officers that he armed himself with a handgun and fired pepper-spray at the NFL cornerback to protect his family as Sherman tried to bust in the door with his shoulder.

"The family began to yell in fear,'' Moss told police. "I used pepper spray on Sherman's face through the partially opened door as he was still banging and attempting to gain entry. I told him to stop. I armed myself with my handgun at this time fearing for the safety of myself and my family.''

Officers were cautious about arresting Sherman because of his size, strength and belligerence, according to police reports released Thursday. After trying to deescalate the situation, they decided to use less lethal force after warning Sherman that they would if he didn't comply with their orders.

They could not use a Taser because they worried about igniting whatever chemical Sherman's father-in-law had sprayed him with and could not fire a bean-bag round because they were too close to him. Instead, they released a police dog, which bit his ankle and caused a minor cut, as other officers wrestled with him on the ground, the reports say.

In February, King County prosecutors and the sheriff obtained an "extreme risk protection order'' for Sherman, which barred him from having guns after a judge determined he posed a danger to himself or others. Details of the case were sealed, and it was not immediately clear if any weapons had been seized from him.

Ashley Sherman told police her husband had been on antidepressants and was receiving mental health counseling.

ESPN's Brady Henderson and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
