Some people thought Steph's play jumped so high that he should have been MIP in addition to MVP.

1. Grant missed over 20% of his team's games.
2. Randle affects winning more, simple and plain.

I also think, while Grant did better than I expected coming into the season, one could argue that the lion's share of his improvement came from higher usage. His FG% and 3P% numbers are way down, as are his defensive analytics numbers. Meanwhile, Randle's improvements come not from usage increase, but from vastly improved perimeter shooting and notable leaps in basically every advanced analytics number. Not only is he better on the court, but also the team is much better.

His team went from 12th place in the east and a lottery team, to 4th in the east, ending a 9 year playoff drought.

Good for MPJ, but nah.

So ultimately it'll all depend on whatever narrative they want to construct while voting on the award.

That's just development and the natural progression of the NBA. Improved should be players that struggled or didn't live up to their expectations the first three or four years and then made a vast improvement.

Did he actually "improve" and double his points or did he just double his playing time and the scoring per minute is exactly the same? He's not the most improved player. Hes just a second year player with more playing time. Julius Randle's situation is a better example of a player improving from their prior ability

I think 3rd year players should be considered if no one thought they were gonna be much after 2 years, but yeah, 2nd year improvements are just a natural progression. Not really the spirit of the award.
