Masvidal getting slept was great for multiple reasons. He was smiling and clowing, he's a MAGA guy, he previously said Usman doesn't hit hard at all and that "God didn't bless him with that manliness to knock another man out, so it must suck living in the world like that." That REALLY made it great to watch him get blacked out.

Namajunas just keeps doing it. That girl is something else. Can't believe she got Weili out of there in the 1st fucking round. Masterful shit.

Shevchenko made Andrade look like she didn't even belong in the same cage with her. Andrade's strength was supposed to be the one thing that made her a threat, and Shevchenko just ragdolled her for 2 rds then elbowed her head into a bloody mess. Valentina is a special fighter.

President Donald Trump praises Jorge Masvidal, Kamaru Usman during their attendance at campaign events

By Nolan King | September 25, 2020 9:15 pm

Colby Covington isn’t the only top UFC welterweight to attend one of President Donald Trump’s campaign events.

With Trump making several stops Friday, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and former title challenger Jorge Masvidal attended separate speeches given by the president.

First, Trump spoke at a “Latinos For Trump” event at Trump National Golf Club in Doral, Fla. Among those in attendance were Masvidal, his manager Abraham Kawa, and Masvidal’s father, Jorge Sr.

As soon as the president took a seat in front of the audience at his golf club, he looked for Masvidal in the crowd. Masvidal was the first topic of conversation Trump brought up.

“We have some real champions here,” Trump said. “And one I heard, in particular, I saw a very fast knockout not so long ago. Where’s Jorge? Where is Jorge? I don’t want to fight with him. Where he is? Where is he? Stand up, Jorge. Stand up. There he is.”

rump praised Masvidal’s “fastest” knockout, presumably his five-second knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239 in July 2019. While the President was inaccurate when relaying some of the details, “Young Superstar” Askren self-deprecatingly embraced the humor of the situation on Twitter later in the day.

“That’s the fastest knockout,” Trump said. “I watched his (fight when) he was fighting this young superstar who was going to great, right? They were telling me how great he is. I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings but he was supposed to be the future of the UFC but he had to go through this guy right here but it didn’t go well (for him). Did it, Jorge? What a champion you are. That was the fastest (knockout). What was it? About a second? Two seconds? You ran across the ring and the guy was gone and that was the end of it. Did they have to pay you for that evening or not? Because one second… that’s a good return. Great to have you, man. I’m a big fan. Thanks.”

A few minutes later, after a few more shoutouts, Trump again brought up Masvidal, who is of Cuban-American ancestry. This time, he used the UFC’s only “BMF” champion in promotional history as an example of the American Dream.

“(Hispanic Americans) champion our shared values and embody the American dream,” Trump said. “That’s what it is. This guy was a fighter on the street. He used to beat up people. You know, your route is much different. Most of these people… I know your story… Actually, for what you do it’s sort of cool. For other people, it wouldn’t be so good. But he used to beat up people and somebody said, ‘Come on (into) the gym. Let’s see if you’re so good.’ Then he goes into the gym and guys who are fighting for a long time, he beat the hell out of him. They said, ‘I think he’s going to be a good fighter,’ and they were right. But these are all different stories, right?”

After the event, Masvidal, who has shown appreciation to the president on numerous occasions, reacted to the praise.

Later in the day Friday, President Trump spoke at Cobb Galleria in Atlanta. The event, which revolved around the topic of “black economic empowerment,” lasted approximately 55 minutes. Usman and manager Ali Abdelaziz each got their own shoutouts from the president.

“Does anybody like UFC?” Trump asked the crowd, while standing at the podium. “I’ll tell you what. … Usman, I know who he is. He’s tough. That’s who he is. Kamaru Usman. Where is our champ? Come on, champ. Get up. Man, oh man, oh man. What a fighter you are. I don’t want to mess with him. I may weigh a couple of pounds more. Do you think I could take you in a fight, champ? I don’t think so. He goes, ‘No.’ I think you’re right, champ.

“I watched the fight you had a couple of months ago. (You’re) an unbelievable talent – and (smart), too. It’s a combination. The muscles are important but you’ve got to have the other. He actually looks really good in a suit but he’s one of the few people who look better without a suit. There aren’t too many of us. There aren’t too many of us that can say that. Right, men? The men in this audience, eh? I just want to thank you, champion. Good luck. I’ll be watching. You have a big fight coming up. I’ll be watching and it’s a great group of people. A great group of champions. Thank you very much. Thank you.”

Him and Ali is the article states.
The UFC is tough to fins someone truly progressive. There are a lot of hardcore capitalists in the mix, and "tough guys" who connect to the republican platform of bootstrapping it.

Ali himself is an interesting dude to say the least.

tl;dr.

Dude was locked up after 9/11 for forgery charges and became a Federal informant. made lots of money in that gig, but also seemed to be playing double agent. Seems like he used that money he made to launch his mma management career...shit is wild and should be a film

Yes and, the we'd see something similar in Boxing.

but thanks for the clarity.

The reason I asked was because I thought you were going to go off on a tangent unrelated to MAGA and/or politics and more related to fighter pay since J*ke P*ul mentioned it when he shot back at Dana White yesterday.

I have very very vague memories watching that at the time, but for some reason, that whole exchange seemed brand new to me.

It must be nice to be as wealthy as Arum is to feel so comfortable making so many outlandish statements.

not to be one of those guys, but I kind of tuned it out after Colby started popping and Jorge started campaigning for Trump. Some of the racist antics of folks like Chael and Conner already had me side-eyeing the sport. It's fine in terms of them being allowed to say what they feel, but I just didn't need any more of that energy in my life.

I've pointed this out on here before in reference to how he runs the organization. It was dismissed as crazy talk tho.

Fuck Dana. I wish I could quit it altogether, but I enjoy the sport.

Beyond Dana's support for Trump is how he's using the UFC as the political ground for events and capacity, etc.

Wasn't aware of that. I do know he still gets all kinds of shit from the white MAGA guys. "He's boring." Then you point out that he's stopping guys in dramatic fashion... "Well... but... HIS PERSONALITY is boring!", "He's just not the champ we want!" Sounds a lot like racists when Obama was running for office. They try legit angles, you shut them down and the last resort is "Well he's just not who we want." Not that I'm an Obama guy, it's just similar.

As for him at the Trump rally, I wasn't aware because I don't see him speaking in favor of Trump the way Masvidal does. Hard to know his angle when you have a lot of our Nigerian brothers and sisters and some of their less-than-favorable views of on race relations, or if he's a Killer Mike type who thinks he's going to change things by "bridging the gap" and conversing with the other side. Perhaps Usman was trying to be the "good negro" that the UFC MAGA guys wouldn't hate (naive). Or hell, maybe he just supports Trump. He's not vocal about it if he does.
Then, he seems to be playing the game with the whole "This is for the whole world" statement upon stopping Colby Covington. He's either playing the game or trying to distract ppl from his Trump support.

because of this comment he made in the lead up to the Covington fight:

“I don’t claim to know about politics and I stay away from it, but there’s definitely a racial element in what he’s doing,” Usman said. “Make America great again? Does that mean boost the economy so we’re thriving? Or let’s stop the flow of immigrants, get the blacks out and, basically, let’s make it white again?"

Seems like he might be on of those types that thinks Trump did "some good" but wasn't okay with the entire agenda. If he truly doesn't follow politics, like he said, I could see that. There were a lot of lies and spins about the "Trump economy" that were uncritically amplified with very few being honest about what was going on. Just a whole lot of "the stock market is doing well!" As if the stock market is the economy... or even a measure of it.
