"College Basketball Transfer Portal"

After an arduous season for college basketball players, many of them are taking advantage of both the extra year of eligibility and the instant transfer waiver offered by the NCAA this offseason. Can't really blame them: if you were unhappy or thought you could get more shine elsewhere, and you got a shot at a free pass, why wouldn't you take it?

So yeah, even though there's been an average of a little over 2 transfers per team the last few years, it's shaping up to be more like *four* transfers per team this year. So a lot of talented players switching squads.

Kellan Grady already moved from Davidson to Kentucky, but I thought I'd point out some of the most talented players available:

Timmy Allen from Utah. All Pac-12 player. Good driver, physical player, gets to the line.

Jaemyn Brakefield from Duke. Looked really polished for half the season, but fell out of the rotation after a couple rough games. I'm biased, but I still love his 4-year upside. Wish he'd stayed.

Nimari Burnett from Texas Tech. McDonald's All-American who got off to a slow start and fell out of the rotation. High-upside guy.

Marcus Carr from Minnesota. All-Big Ten player. Gonna kick the tires on the NBA Draft but transfer is his backup.

Tanner Groves from Eastern Washington. The lumberjack looking dude who dropped 35 on Kansas first round. His brother is in the portal too. Not sure how they'd translate consistently to the higher level, but a really fun player.

Marreon Jackson from Toledo. 6 foot lightning bolt of a guard. Won MAC Player of the Year over Jason Preston.

Myles Johnson from Rutgers. One of the best defensive big men in college basketball last year. Gotta think he gets offers from everyone.

Walker Kessler from UNC. Freshman big. Lots of raw talent on both ends. Will start anywhere he goes.

Khristian Lander from Indiana. 5-star PG who reclassified to come to school early and didn't really look ready. Still, would be a huge long-term pickup.

Tre Mitchell from UMass. 6'9 near-double-double guy who can shoot 3s too. Will get offers from everyone.

Justin Powell from Auburn. Freshman who missed half the year with a concussion, but he showed potential as a shooter. He's been rumored to Kentucky for a while now.

Nate Reuvers from Wisconsin. Reuvers kinda sucked this year and blew any NBA Draft stock he had... but he was All-Big 10 a season ago. Not a lot of shooting bigs as good as him in the portal.

Kadary Richmond from Syracuse. Boeheim bafflingly didn't play him much this year, but he's a hugely impactful defensive wing with NBA upside. One of my favorites in the portal, tbh.

Fatts Russell from Rhode Island. I'm... not a believer that this kid would play consistently winning basketball, but he's an insanely high usage All-A10 and All-A10 defense guy.

Earl Timberlake from Miami. Rough freshman year due to injury but was a beast at DeMatha, a five star guy. Looking for a fresh start.

Au'diese Toney from Pitt. Strong defender inside, can even step outside and shoot some. Should make a great piece on a contender.

Qudus Wahab from Georgetown. The most game-ready big man in the portal right now. Stunned he's leaving Ewing.

Rocket Watts from MSU. I'm not a huge fan of the decision making, but there's undeniably high-major potential here.

So ridiculous. We’re gonna have Joe Girard and his two sons out there playing 40 mpg next year.

I’m getting into hockey as my alternate to the NBA.

Decision making and shot selection are horrible.

One of the most low efficiency offensive players I can recall watching the last couple years. Maybe Turgeon reins him in... but it's not like Turg has a history of reining in the bad shot selection of his point guards.

It'll be interesting to see how that roster plays out.
