"Scalabrine or The Marine? YOU DECIDE."

Reminder: anyone who ever played professional basketball will fucking destroy you at basketball in ways you can't begin to understand.

In the Reddit thread about this video, someone brought up a quote from Scalabrine, "I'm closer to LeBron than you are to me." Very, very true.

(I'm just going to enjoy this pure moment before the post devolves into some dude saying they can beat Candace Parker 1v1 or some such nonsense.)

They found 3 people who thought they could take Scalabrine 1 on 1. Brian faced them back-to-back-to-back and destroyed them all, though he was getting winded on the 3rd game. I think it was after he had just retired if I remember correctly.

Where they found the best amateur players in the city, and then put them up against Scal 1-on-1. Scal played all four during the same day, and he stomped them all. He won the four "First to 11" games by a combined score of 44-6. The "closest" it got was him going down 2-1 to the last guy (mostly due to fatigue), then scored the next 8 and eventually won 11-3.

Here's the article about it:

Think he had just graduated. I was two or three years behind him in school. He ran at about half-speed, mostly passed it off. And even then, he was worlds ahead of everybody else on the court, including some damned good players.*

*I wasn't one of them. I sucked. But I worked hard.

Mizzou guy. Bulls fans will remember him from the 07 squad. I want to say he got a little playing time after D Rose went down.

But anyways this dude fucking torched us shooting half assed 3 pointers with hands in his face. It didn’t matter what you did as a defender. That jumper was wet everytine.

Where he really stood out was defensively. he breezed through screens, it made it feel like there was no point to even setting a screen. Just pass the ball away if he’s guarding you lol

he played on some fun teams...Jimmy McKinney, Kalen Grimes, Leo Lyons...some more I have forgotten. That's a cool story, though. Dudes on that level, even if they are not gonna be NBA players, are still SO good. I played a lot of basketball with Jayson Tatum's pops and he was SO MUCH BETTER than us, lol...but he wasn't in the same universe as his son.

Antonio Daniels (played at Bowling Green, mid 90s) came to our campus and was playing some pick up games in the rec center one Saturday. He absolutely destroyed everyone in the gym. He was obviously miles ahead of all of us.

Now, it's not like I thought I might be able to handle him or anything like that. He was the best player in the MAC.

But years later, Sports Illustrated had a story that selected him as the most average player in the NBA. I think it might be more accurate to say he was the median player but whatever. Y'all get the picture.

That story made me think about how good the elite NBA guys must be. Mind blowing. I don't think I can even fathom playing against talent like that.

I'm certain I've told this in OKS, like 10 years ago, but...
Freshman year of college, me and my guys head over to the rec center to shoot some hoops, one evening. Regular shit. There's 3 courts...the first one is for regular dudes, like myself who are running some good, full-court games. It's hyped. The far right court is just whatever. Cats who just want to shoot. Dudes playing one on one...whatever. The middle court is high level, full court action. Mostly dudes who play on the school squad and shit. Occasionally, a regular dude will end up in a game on that joint. So we walk in and look over to the middle court and we see this tall dude trailing on a fast break and he yells in a very African accent "Here I come!!" Dude pushin the ball penetrates, throws a bounce pass back toward big dude and he rises up in one motion and slams. One of my potnas was like...ha, dude sounds like Mutombo. Somebody, who was already there, watching, replied that it was Dikembe's brother. Apparently he played at Southern Indiana and knew some people at our school. So, here we stood...watching Ilo Mutombo just DAMAGE everyone who wasn't on his team, lol. He had a move where he would catch it on the wing, jab, dribble, spin, dunk. It was unstoppable like the Tom Chambers double-pump dunk in Lakers vs. Celtics. From all accounts, he was a super nice dude who just enjoyed hooping.

On the real though, my brother found a way to stop that move. There was a way to block it. You had to just be in the right position, right outside the paint and time the jump perfectly. You'll actually block that shit, but that also has the potential for numerous three point plays lol
