The guy never went down (that Roldan shit was a cheap slip), was rarely ever hurt, and then when he was hurt (like when Hearns busted his nose) he fought through it to get a KO.
Did everything the hard way. Came up from nothing and fought everyone on their terms. Always had a chip on his shoulder. Even changed his name just to try and get some extra shine.
An icon of the 80s. An all-time great middleweight. And a godawful Italian movie star.

Dan Rafael mentioned something the effect of "no one ever had a single bad thing to say about dude, in any way, inside or outside the ring." That sounds right.
The "Fighter's fighter" about as much anyone is the "The X's X."

just to educate him a bit.
Even when he was being a hardass, his skill and gamesmanship was incredible. He transitioned from southpaw to orthodox and back a few times which kept Tommy from fully finding him, while Hagler was able to still deliver shots from either stance. Then obviously having that killer instinct once his nose got mashed. Millions of words have been spilled trying to capture the drama of that fight, but it was the two baddest dudes laying it all on the line.
I've also watched Hagler v. Leonard a few times. I still feel like it was Hagler's fight, or a draw at best. He was my favorite dude from that era, though, so I'm biased.
RIP to a really real one.

Never be another one like him. Dude said he would KO Hearns and did it. Put a stop to the Mugabi run in another underrated war that doesn't get talked about enough. This guy was one of the hardest working boxers to ever do it. His technical prowess is overlooked even by people who analyze boxing. Some compubox cat claimed Hagler didn't throw any jabs in the 1st round of the Hearns fight, but he definitely did. One of Hagler's jabs even rocked Tommy back to the ropes. The man was truly something special to watch. Always going for the kill and seemed impossible to deter or even hurt. One of the truest warriors you'll ever see in the ring.
