but from what I've seen, Payton is much more capable of staying in front of opposing point guards than Rose is. Rose is much better at penetrating at his advanced age compared to Payton, which is sad on multiple levels, but I have to think Thibs values Payton's defensive capabilities over Rose's.

I suppose time will tell if Payton will get relegated to the bench once his hamstring injuries improve.

Lakers fans mad as shit. GS went to Five straight Chips.

And all of his Chips came from beating Lebron, with and without KD

They built a dynasty and changed the NBA to what it is today. Teams built their
teams to go up against GS.

And he has GS right now in the Top 8 of the West! And is a MVP candidate.

Y’all mad as shit. LOL

They did it right before the AllStar game, which is in Atlanta. Pierce was highly
involved with securing Allstate Arena as a polling place for the recent presidential
election.

I guess they wanted to wait until the end of Black History month to
sack him.

Not that Chuck is a fount of XO's insight, mind you, but I'd say Shaq is much more limited in that regard.

In response to Reply # 34

He kills off his strengths, but doesn't do much to shore up his weaknesses- and even wears that as a badge.

His value to ITNBA is entertainment, and he hugs the curbs of easy, surface level talking points. There's a reason he always runs straight to his rings and either avoids or attempts to shut down any sort of nuanced discussion.

Shaq's an old head who doesn't get that the game is different, and in general, has always head flippant, simplistic perspectives on most things.

Conversely, Candace doesn't sound like she came prepared, so much as she sounds like someone who eats, breathes and understands the game on a much deeper level than Shaq ever did.

He's one of the funniest motherfuckers alive. Same with Chuck, really. But the second they start talking about the modern NBA, they reveal all the shit they don't know. They're still thinking it's the same game as 30-40 years ago. It also doesn't help that they clearly don't watch tape, as shown by that "Name That Player" segment, lmao.

So if he realized he's there to pop shit, be funny, tell some fun "back in the day" stories, and bust some balls occasionally? He's perfect at that. But he can't hang with Candace in a breakdown of the intricacies of the modern NBA. Be it age or unwillingness to learn... he's just never gonna come across well in a convo like that.

Candace is, unsurprisingly, brilliant and fantastic at her job. (D-Wade is also really good from what I've seen.)

that's a little bit of exaggeration Shaq just retired 10 years ago and his last title was 15 years ago. The game has changed dramatically during that relative short time.

I LOVE Candace and she knows her shit.

I'm a huge fan of Shaq as a player but honestly I don't think he's good in this role on Tuesdays or Thursdays. On Thursdays Kenny used to provide balance with Chuck but for whatever reason they thought Shaq would add something but he doesn't.

clown comedy at BEST.

He gets by on being a huge, physically imposing, dominant athlete who is always goofing off and smiling.

But there's very little that he says or does that's *actually* funny.

Even his dynamic with Chuck is a one trick pony that works, but is also one that's been worn extremely thin. He has the biggest negatives and smallest positives of any of the Inside guys.

He detracts far more from the show than he brings to it.

He's a big goof who can be fairly entertaining. I enjoy him on the show overall, but "one of the funniest motherfuckers alive" is a gross overstatement.

at the level of attention this is getting on twitter. It shouldn't be that odd for folks on a sports talk show to have differences in viewpoints of the game.

I wonder why this is gaining online traction; is it because of a woman clapping back at what is a typically male dominated sport in professional basketball? Is it because folks are tired of Shaq running his trap?

It's interesting, at least to me.

He offers no insight and (imo) he's not funny/entertaining within the context of Inside.

ANOTHER HOT TAKE: The guy is so busy doing commercials for literally every product on the market that he doesn't seen to have the time or energy to put forth on the TNT gig. He's half-assing it and really offers nothing. And like you said, he's a detriment to the show. Doesn't seem like he truly cares and is doing it for (another) check. There are talented people more deserving of being in that chair.

But yeah, HOT TAKE ALERT.

It's weird, because he was the guy everyone loved during the Kobe-Shaq feud, players and fans alike, unless you were a Kobe fan.

As a former player, he's given little to the game or it's players, while Kobe solidified himself as one of, if not the, GOAT in terms of what he gave back to the game.

Kobe did Detail, breaking down what makes players so great, trained with and mentored young players, and wrote a whole damn book that spoke on the greatness of other players.

Shaq went on to shit on Dwight, Javale, Gobert, Mitchell, etc.

He's a horrible ambassador for the game.

He said man-up, as in man to man defense. He was saying
that players need to stay glued, even on the PnR, which they don’t.

PnR isn’t anything new. That was Utah’s bread and butter back in the 90s
, and they had good shooters. But Bulls had Pippen, Jordan and Rodman, who
stay glued or knew how to switch.

Players depend on system defenses now, and they lack man to man ability.
Milwaukee has too much length to not know how to defend against Jokic on the
PnR.

The problem is players are playing lazy defense.

it used to be more situational to switch everything but in a copycat league coaches came to favor shooters more than plus defenders until it became basic NBA defensive philosophy. Players don't even try to fight through or over the screen no matter how weak it is.

I think it helps that Parker is getting a lot of traction in general because of how fucking great she is at breaking down the game. Putting her next to Chuck or Shaq is going to make them look out of touch because, well, breaking down game just isn't really their strength. They barely know who the coaches and players are on the teams.

And yeah, as mentioned above, Shaq's been doing a lot of grumpy old man "back in my day, kids were tougher" shtick recently. So to have this clip where Parker calmly and effectively explains the modern game, and Shaq comes back with something that may have worked thirty years ago but no one really does today for a reason, and she looks over at D-Wade like "is he serious?"? Yeah, it's definitely a lot of things coming together in a perfect clip, lol.

I think what hurts Shaq from his myopic point of view is that the big man is obviously dying out in the modern NBA and Shaq has less and less possible basketball insight to delivery if he isn't present to crack jokes. IMO, he's pretty lacking in the comedy department because he isn't able to crack jokes at himself for the most part and instantly becomes extra sensitive or defensive when the jokes are pointed his way, but I suppose that just a matter of my personal opinion.

Barkley seems to have enough self-knowledge to know not to take himself too seriously, at least from what I've see from the NBA Turner broadcasts. I'm curious if he actually does X's and O's breakdowns when he does television work for NCAA. I don't watch because I don't watch college ball, but he's been back multiple years, so I would hope he does a decent enough job for whatever his role is for those NCAA broadcasts.

seriously than Chuck, Chuck has accepted the fact that he's there for comic relief and embraces is with his "guarantees" and other antics. Shaq thinks he can sit up there and say "I got 4 rings" and it automatically validates everything he says. I hate saying this but I wouldn't mind seeing Tim Duncan in his spot.

1. Lillard and Harden are MVP runners. Hands down.
2. Utah is serious. Even when they lose they win. They lost their last two games
because of Refs. But they are on the Road balling and taking it to every top team.

Refs focked Utah hard and I loved what Mitchell had to say. Love that kid.

That game was over. Utah had the W. Royce saved the ball, and then
the ref said the ball touched him. They had a ref issue against Miami.

I know one thing this Utah team plays every quarter, every second, every game.
They make you work. Can teams deal with that in a seven game series?

What’s the issue with that call?
It’s the right call
Ball touched ref out of bounds = out of bounds
?

He also got the benefit of jumping sideways into Seth on a 3pt attempt that is the literal definition of not being a natural shooting motion...in the final minutes of the game

We get those 2pts he made on the FTs back?
Of course not...

12/34 and an L = madmaking

Let’s be real.

I have more of an issue with this not being a nationally televised game

#1 in the west vs #1 in the East...and the league is more focused on BK and LAs

Talk about that disrespect...but blaming refs, when you shoot 44 3pters and are facing the #2 team in post up possessions

GTFOH.

in how refs have been impacting games and ejecting players. It’s a problem, a
serious problem. I’m glad he spoke on it. That his first ejection of his career.
So you know it’s a problem.

And Mitchell still went 33-8-6 and was 5-12 from 3
, on the Road in an OT game. So dont Pat yourself
on the back too much, worry about how Phila can’t beat a Lillard team without
his starting players (twice!) or Brooklyn without Durant.

Philly got the W at home, but hardly convincing.

But it wasn’t a convincing win, ball doesn’t touch the ref, game over
Utah wins. And actually it was Harris who was big in that game as well.

I’m just saying it could have easily been a L for Philly and it took everything
for them to win it.... far far from dominating or like Mitchell was lockdown.

Philly won, cool. But Utah ain’t no focking joke, not at all.

Brooklyn needs interior defense not floor spacers, although at this point I'm not sure you can refer as Blake as a spacer since he shot really poorly this year.

I read in The Athletic that BOS might be a better fit. He would give them some playmaking, likely off of the bench.

This isn’t a Rondo or Carmelo situation. He isn’t old. He is only 31 years old.

His knees are toast. He can’t Jump. It’s more like a Chris Webber situation.

Some Youth is still there, but the parts are badly damaged.

I feel like if he was on his way out he wouldn't have taken a buyout. He could've sat home the rest of this season and next season and collected a fat check

Yeah let’s take the most important players in the league and put their
health in jeopardy by having a meaningless ASG. That’s the ticket.

What could go wrong?

These players could all contract Covid while being under the same roof,
and be forced to quarantine, which would leave them unavailable for their
regular teams for up to 2 weeks.

I guarantee you there will be positive tests when they get tested after the
games are over.

need to spread it out over the weekend. The celebrity game, Rising Stars, 3-point, slam dunk, and the fans that actually get to see those events. Most people that can't get tickets to the actually game try to go the other events. A ton of people that don't got to any of the actual NBA events like to go to the host city just to say they were there, same with the Super Bowl.

1 or 2 rising Stars may make the ASG, stars rarely do the dunk contest these days, a few may be in the 3 point contest.

>too.

putting the weekend on 3 days makes more sense than 1.

There's no reason from the nba perspective to cram it into 1 day. Casual fans ain't gonna sit and watch 5+ hours in one day.

But they will check in on Saturday and a Sunday.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

But the other events will have stars phoning it in if they're playing the actual ASG.

But whatever. Dunk contest was horrific. 3 point was the most entertaining thing
