"Land of Undefeated Champions"

In PRO sports, to go undefeated is a very rare achievement. It is only achieved
by the greatest of greats. It is the epitome of excellence, because it showcases
pure dominance of one’s profession. It’s not built from luck or chance, no nepotism
or favoritism.

If you know of any other undefeated champions in the sports world, please
list them

PBF
Andre Ward
Joe Calzaghe
Michael Jordan
Joe Montana.

losing before the finals does not make you better but fine I'll add on, assume criteria has to be at least 3 finals/SBs?

Terry Bradshaw 4-0
Troy Aikman 3-0
Scottie Pippen 6-0
Robert Horry 7-0
Steve Kerr 5-0
George Mikan 5-0
John Havlicek 8-0
Ron Harper 5-0

I might be missing some more GOATs.

>assume criteria has to be at least 3 finals/SBs?

These men went undefeated and are therefore the greatest of greats, the epitome of excellence and dominated their profession unlike losers like Dan Marino, Donovan McNabb, Fran Tarkenton, John Elway, etc.

Ken Stabler 1-0
Jeff Hostetler 1-0
Mark Rypien 1-0
Trent Dilfer 1-0
Brad Johnson 1-0
Eli Manning 2-0

I’m sorry if I wasn’t more specific. He hit it dead on the nail, because 3 or more
championships equal dynasty.

So those players do not apply.

I see the 72 dolphins. Maybe some of these other folks had full on undefeated seasons. Or even like Comets situation where they started the WNBA with 4 titles.

Besides that, losing before the finals is still losing. Ignoring that is willful ignorance. I know it’s 2021 and being knowingly and absurdly wrong about stuff in Murrica has been normalized but c’mon now.

The list itself contains several different definitions of undefeated itself. Some are people who never lost a game/match/fight in their career, a few are teams with an undefeated season, and then there are players who never lost a title game/series, even though they lost before the finals more times than not and even in their title seasons lost multiple times throughout the regular season (as well as games in the playoffs/finals for MJ).

So I guess Aaron Rodgers belongs in the "Land of Undefeated Champions" because one year he took a 10-6 team to the Super Bowl and won, while never getting back. Or Eli for going 2-0 in the SB with 10-6 and 9-7 squads.

Brady winning really made this dude furious, illogical and even more wrong than usual.

Rodgers is not eligible.

Jordan applies, because he came back in the last part of the season when he didn’t
get back to the finals, so it wasn’t a full season.

Other than that, he was undefeated in the finals and playoff series for six straight playing years.

Also there are multiple definitions:

Players and teams who never lost a championship with at least 3 championship
wins.

A pro team that went undefeated for a full season.

It’s not a rule I just came up with.

It’s the narrative that’s always used...Joe Montana and Michael Jordan are undefeated.
They never lost a super bowl game or a NBA finals.

To be that top athlete, you can’t have any knocks against you....it means the conquer of all.

According to your new rule ("It’s about being undefeated after becoming a champion" -Reply 19) Joe Montana doesn't make the cut. He won the SB for the 1981 season then proceeded to lose 5 of the next 6 seasons. Wow! What a loser, right!??!

That shit matters. He can say that he is undefeated in championship games.

That’s why people bring it up. Montana is 4-0. Jordan is 6-0.

You can’t be a goat when other people have used you as a door mat to win a
super bowl and get into the hall of fame.

Not to take anything away from Thierry, Patrick, Dennis, etc.

But c'mon.

You could actually probably pick the best team - ymmv - out of those late 80's/early 90's Sacchi/Capello squads and have an incredibly strong candidate for best club side of all time.

For serious, I'm all eyes and all ears if you have one regarding this squad specifically.

Because otherwise, Capello's Milan is the gold standard for the premise of this post. Arsenal was more recent and done in the EPL, so naturally, people will think of them first. But Milan won a higher % of their games, had a better goal differential, and most importantly bossed a Serie A that was in the midst of its run as arguably the GOAT league - and certainly a much stronger one than the EPL in '04. They would also probably roll Arsenal if they lined up, which is crazy because that Gunners side was INCREDIBLE.

Or even the achievement.

I’m question the league. I didn’t follow Serie A in 80s or 90s, so I’m going of what
I know of Serie A now. They could very well be the gold standard.

I’m just saying Italy has a history of match fixing, and the soccer , as of now,
is of a lower standard.

I can only take your word, so if you say so, cool.

Granted Rocky beat a lot of Jabronis in local fights for the majority of his career, but it counts. He retired champ!

Nice shoehorning of Jordan and Montana into the discussion. I ask again.... why does losing earlier in the playoffs not count? Should we throw Brees and Rodgers on this list?

Also, I would like to add. Think of it as 2 levels

1. Those teams and players who ran the table as being undefeated for a season
or a career.

2. And those who were and are undefeated in championships. They
never lost a championship that they played in, and it is more in relation
to star players or players who are/were number 1 or 2 options. Not
some bench player or short usage role player. And there must be 3 or more
championship appearances in a single era.
