When Renteria was terminated, the rumors started about Jerry re-hiring Larussa. Plus they are still close and in contact behind closed doors.

Jerry always stated that one of his biggest baseball regrets was allowing Harrelson to fire Larussa. Also, couple that with the fact that Jerry is a loyalist and likes to keep things within the family of the organization, past or present, it’s not a bizarre move.

He is a three time championship coach, third in all time wins for a coach, and he has stayed connected with the culture and operation of baseball.

He is the Pat Riley of baseball in my eyes.

went directly into "flag and soldiers" mode.

"I know that there's a constitutional right to express yourself, but I think you have a right as an organization to have a certain philosophy about respecting, whether it's our Constitution, whether it's our country, whether its our soldiers...our flag," La Russa said. "I would not, to the best of my ability, I would not sanction somebody taking a knee.

"I think that's disrespectful, and I really question the sincerity of somebody like Kaepernick. I remember when he was on top. I never heard him talk about anything but himself. Now all of a sudden he's struggling for attention and he makes this big pitch. I don't buy it. And even if he was sincere, there are other ways to show your concern. Disrespecting our flag is not the way to do it."

Baseball is about analytics and being able to coach the game. Baseball has never been about a coach being able to relate to political or personal beliefs of players. Football is similar. Don’t need a coach to be able to juggle the personalities or feelings of players. That’s more of a basketball thing.

Can he still coach the game and get this ultra talented team to the championship?

Only one thing matters in baseball, and that’s numbers. Numbers rule over everything in baseball.

Players rule basketball
Owners rule football
Numbers rule baseball.

If tony can bring those numbers, we’re good..,.he ain’t got to relate to shit but those Sabermetrics.

Wisdom/analytics. That is his new science.

I’m sure he is sitting on a one year window. He will be on a short leash.

Not easy on the eyes. But as long as the brain works. That is all that matters.

He coached Ricky Henderson, one of the most flamboyant, celebratory players to ever play the game.

“ La Russa returns to the White Sox after starting his managerial career in 1979 with the team. He acknowledged that he's changed his previously stated opposition to kneeling during the U.S. anthem.

"Not only do I respect (protests), but applaud the awareness," the four-time Manager of the Year said, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.

La Russa also said that he doesn't believe celebrations like those that have become a trademark of star shortstop Tim Anderson are a problem.”

Stop making stuff up.

Yes many things were wildly strange like the disparate fielding from OF to OF, some guys had cannons and other guys threw like tee ballers and the range was just as all over the place. but it was just a super fun game to play, not absurdly easy nor impossible and with all kinds of fun details. Was that the first console game where you could manage the bullpen? It may have been. They had the little photo of the pitcher in the shower when you took him out of the game and for some reason that always made me laugh

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

You don’t understand that for Jerry the Bulls are mainly a money making endeavor for him? He is a baseball guy first and foremost.

Not copping for him. Just speaking facts.!

However, he still made bank while investing very little as an owner. There is a reason why he isn’t interested in brining in big time free agents. Jordan drafted. Pippen drafted. Grant drafted. Armstrong drafted. Rose drafted. Coby white drafted. Jerry’s motto is If the Bulls are going to be great is going to be through the draft and finding young talent. ...that’s it.

However as s baseball owner, he has went after big time agents, even when they were out of their prime. Fisk, thome,Ramires, Damon,Griffey jr, all the money he recently spent. Dude even threw 300 million at Machado, and was willing to pay more than the Phillies for wheeler.....

The moves the white Sox have made over the past few years have been excellent, and they did win a title in 2005. No one expected the Sox to be this good this early. We were looking at a 2-3 year window, and still are. There are still pieces that need to be added, like more starting and relief pitching. I’m still not totally sold on Giolito and Dallas.

This team is going to be good as fock.

This is just not true.

Jerry has definitely allowed his front office to spend on free agents.
He just doesn't like going over the cap unless it's a playoff/championship contender.

With the White Sox. The bulls HAVE built more through the draft than through free agents. That’s just pure facts.

Our championships and PO runs have come through stars being acquired from drafting, not from FA.

Jordan.Pippen.Grant.Artest.Chandler.Miller.Gordon.Deng.Butler.Rose.Noah.Gibson.

Even Mcgrady, Tim Duncan and Melo stated that the bulls were offering them peanuts as FA. ....

Jerry is a baseball guy, and basketball is a distant second.

What big FA did we get while being PO contenders?.....and don’t say out of prime Rondo or Wade. I’ll wait.

Carlos Boozer.
Ben Wallace.

And I agree with you that Jerry is a baseball guy.
But the idea that the Bulls don't spend on FA is false.
Now if you want to talk about why FA don't come here,
and the culture and reputation the Bulls have spread across the league,
then we can talk about that.

Ben Wallace?

Carlos Boozer?

Dudes out of their prime with they came here. I know you didn’t type those names with a straight face. Gasol played here for 2 years then retired. Ben Wallace was on the tail end after playing for ten years.

Come on, Bro. That’s not building or truly spending from free agency. Again, the bulls BUILD from the draft, and not free agency. And the reason they can’t get big time FA because they are not willing to really spend.

That’s my point. Have FA comes here? Yes. But nothing major or to build around

Of course they've made poor signings before, but
the question was whether he spent money, and he does.
Now I think a lot of that had to do with a poorly run front office.

More importantly, he's spending now.

I like the move, maybe not what I'd have done personally but it signals that the team is ready to get serious AF and that's the right message. These guys have a fuckton of talent and now they get a very experienced and successful manager to make it all work.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

About Tony LaRussa completely intolerable. I'm not sure I realized that until now. He sure does seem like an unpleasant asshole though.

I also work for a legendary boomer-aged coach. It's kind of a pain sometimes. Possibly reading that into the situation.

he apparently got pissed this time because the cop didn't go for that.

he was arrested for DUI when he was Cardinals manager and there several player alcohol related incidents including at least one death with Josh Hancock

Ron Washington was a cocaine addict, tested positive, and the rangers still kept him. And that was for a hard narcotic! Not alcohol.

I’m not sure what your investment is with all of this...

You’re reaching....a lot of players, managers, etc are dirty as fuck, on or off the field.

From domestic abuse to substance abuse ...players and managers of different backgrounds have been given tons of chances.

So I’m not sure what you’re trying to point out.

Do I need to name a list of players and coaches, from Darryl Strawberry on down, who were arrested several times for DUIs or for Substance use, and were still allowed to play baseball?

Being an addict of a substance is different than getting behind the wheel under the influence of said substance. Mans got busted twice now 13 years apart. We're not talking about a forgivable one-time thing.

That is a civilian situation with law enforcement, and it happened before he was named the coach, and Jerry knew about it.

And those baseball players and coaches with one DUI is better than getting two DUIs?

You’re not supposed to get any DUIs...1,2,3 ...doesn’t matter. That’s like saying killing one person is not as bad as killing 2 people. You’re not supposed to kill, period. They all
put lives in jeopardy.

Neither one of them are mistakes because the are all grown men and they all knew better.....

I hope the White Sox to continue making whichever personnel decisions are mostly likely to please their fanbase of uncles who openly call their sister's eight-year old "soft." In fact, I hope this is a stern wake-up call to their fellow 2020 AL Central non-winners to demonstrate similar contempt for anybody younger than 70. Is it too late for Detroit to dump Hinch and just have Sparky Anderson make lineup decisions via seance?

It’s the 9th inning, and you’re not even facing a real pitcher. They are just

20 years from now, nobody's going to remember he did this outside the ESPN highlight dungeon and most people will have probably forgotten Yermin Mercedes, but when they do randomly stumble on his BRef page they'll see this kid that came out of nowhere to hit like Ted Williams for a quarter of a season had 6 or 7 homers through May instead of 5 or 6. Boohoo!

They put a positional player on the mound so they wouldn’t have to use

it happened out in the open. It had to be known throughout baseball that
the White Sox will not tolerate that.

Period. Move on

Especially these type of cases. Did the Twins promise that they weren't going to try and hit when it was their turn? No? Then everyone talking about "unwritten rules" needs to STFU.

2. All that said, if there was indeed a "take" sign, and LaRussa isn't just making this up after the fact to "save face," then dude should have probably taken the pitch.

Anthony Rizzo struck out Freddie Freeman. That was cute.

But if you want to get an out, put somebody on the mound who's gonna get the out. Otherwise, I want to see the pitcher pitch and the hitter hit, no matter the quality/skill level of either player.

I can't think of the BEST analogy, but to my mind it's like asking a team up 30 in the final 9 minutes of a basketball game to stop crossing halfcourt, passing the ball or attempting to make free throws when fouled. Are we or are we not playing a game here?

They put in bench players when the game is out of hand on both
sides. That means no contest.

Everyone knows the rules. Everyone.

Mercedes just did a dumb selfish act. He saw an opportunity
to pad his numbers, which is the problem with this generation.
That’s why there are so many strikeouts than ever before.

This ain’t softball. Who the hell wants a Home run of
a 45 mph pitch?

Or Zack Collins or something. Why is Yermin at fault for playing the game he’s paid to play and why isn’t LaRussa at fault for failing to recognize the situation and bat a worthless hitter against a worthless pitcher?

If the game’s a farce, explicitly make it a farce. If it’s still a game, let’s play.

DH's getting pinch hit late game isn't unheard of. He was to make sure the other team doesn't get "shown up"? Then bring in someone else.

In a basketball blowout there comes a point where it is impossible to catch up within a certain timeframe. In baseball the opponent always has the opportunity to come back, however unlikely. No lead is truly safe until the game is over.

Minnesota surrendered, which is why they put a positional player
on the mound. Game was over and done with.

Everyone knows the rules. Mercedes just wanted to get
a cheap home run, and it cost him his reputation.

There is no mercy rule in baseball. Did the Twins agree to stop swinging the bat the next half inning? If not, keep trying to score! That's why they call them "insurance runs." I don't even really get who is insulted by this. Is the position player concerned about keeping his ERA low?

There have been plenty of crazy comebacks before. Not saying it's likely, but if the Twins are still gonna try to score runs, you should too.
