Shittt. Easy my ass.

Rennes is killing right now, best in the league. And Sevilla beat MU and Inter to win Europa back in August, and the they recently played Bayern tough as shit in the Super Cup.

Based on current form, we could get our asses handed to us

I would rather be in group C or group F ...Man City’s defense is worst than ours. And we do know how to score.

This run of games has literally been unprecedented, but we’re playing strong football even as we rotate the side. We should be on 6 points, and we advanced in both competitions. The transfers have showed up the defense, and playing NDombele has diversified the offense.

So hopefully Mount’s days have been numbered as a winger.

I want a victory tomorrow, with limited mistakes. Everything should
play in their natural positions.

Hazard injured again. I feel for this man, but he has already conquered so much, so
If his career is waning, he is still one of the greatest to ever play. However,
He was really starting to take off especially against PSG, but Thomas Munier broke his ankle intentionally....and he just hasn’t been the same sense.

That’s why people were like why did Thomas go at hazard like that?

Unless he was instructed to foul hazard hard, like most players are , to slow him down. That foul was CLEARLY intentional. Look at the video.

I saw it everyday In the EPL. Hazard was the most tackled player in the EPL and probably the second most tackled in the world behind Neymar.

Frank, finally, put a solid line up on the pitch. My only gripe is that
he played Werner as a winger again. Other than that, the lineup was spot on,
and it should be the main starting 11.

Chilly Willy was man of the match. He really held down the flank, and attacked
with pace and quality. He scored the first goal, which was built up by Odoi and Abraham.

Zouma scored. Abraham and Havertz both drew penalties, which were scored by Jorginho.

The pivot of Jorginho and Kante really controlled the match. Seeing Kante boss the midfield like his days under Conte was good to see. . He broke up passes, and got the ball up the pitch. And Jorginho was the maestro, stringing passes along and providing service.

The backline of Azp-Silva-Zouma-chilly Willy was excellent. They kept CP’s attackers under control. I don’t think CP had a shot on goal for the entire match.

Mendy with the clean sheet.

Odoi came alive in the second half, and started beating his man to get balls into the box
Abraham was active for the entire match, but was unlucky with a header set up by Odoi.

Havertz and Werner were not good. Havertz did draw a penalty, and started the first few mins well, but after that he disappeared. He was in his natural CAM role, but he still appears to have problems with the physicality and speed of the league.

Werner is not playing in his right position and that’s on frank. He couldn’t get into the game, and was never on the ball.

Moving forward, Werner needs to be the top striker, and sub Tammy in. We will be even more dynamic with that set up.

Pulisic came in later, but the game was way out of reach , and Chelsea didnt need to attack anymore. His movement appeared to be healthy, so that’s a plus.

Great way to go into the international break. 4-0, Chelsea

And Mount and James didn’t see one minute! Good!

This should have been our lineup last week, so ,hopefully, frank is done
with starting Mount and Reece. ...and if he has to play Mount , play him in the CAM role.

has Everton rolling. They are off to their best start in club history.
7 straight wins and 4-0 in the EPL.

That Liverpool/Everton derby is going to be serious.
Chelsea has no room for error this season. So many teams have improved.

And Zissou needs to seriously get a mental examination for his treatment of
James. That boy has been great for every team he has been on ...he has killed in every league: Portugal league, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, La liga and now the EPL.

all of our defenders are bums minus AWB.

Maguire is AIGHT but obviously he's having a SHIT game today and I think he's been a bust of a signing considering what we paid and what he's supposed to be doing.

I'll always take extra offensive help, but this defense is straight ass sauce and until it changes we are FUCKED.

but one thing he continues to get wrong IMO is putting Matic out there over McTominay, if for just how fucking slow Matic is if nothing else.

but, I also think our defense improves a ton with McTominay because McTominay will actually go and challenge folks. Matic, because he's so slow, can't usually even take the risk of making challenges because if he fails he's so slow he'll never be able to get back into any kind of decent defensive position and he knows that so he doesn't even try.

Spurs have on a good run of form lately. Jose has them playing defense.

That said, today we were good enough to take advantage of team’s implosion. I don’t take too much from it for Spurs.

Dest looks lively and about to be thrown into the fire.

a lot of passes with too little on them, likely a fatigue issue. Koeman's gonna need to start rotating players a little more. also, that was a game built for puig when he put pjanic in. Not that pjanic looked bad--and fdj was making legit runs into the box--but puig's ability against the press woulda been helpful.

griezzy missed another really good opportunity and his side was barely used (in part to protect araujo, who looked like he did not need any protection). worrying.

Thiago and Mane are out with Covid.

That’s got to be a throw away game, where you just take the L and keep it moving.

Liverpool got lucky last year. They overperformed their xG significantly. That transformed them from “merely” the best team in the league to a historical monster. Their luck was bound to regress, so they’re going to lose a few this year. They’ll still win the league.

I hate the shit out of Liverpool almost as much as I hate the lakers.

But luck is not in that historical run whatsoever.

That squad could have won back to back EPL titles and back to back champion league titles. Sergio Ramos intentionally injuring Salah was what kept them from beating RM in the final, and they slightly missed out on MC for the league title.

It wasn’t like they rose up out of nowhere last year and dominated. They were dominant
the year before. It was a monstrous build up year after year. They were kicking everybody’s ass in different leagues across the board.

That squad just has the right recipe of scoring, speed, defense, creativity and power.

And yesterday was their first loss of the EPL season, with 2 main players out. I don’t think it means anything, other than they lost.

It’s too small of a sample size.

Now if they get a repeat of that, where they are enduring lopsided losses, then it can be calculated that they are losing stem.

I would take them over the entire field, actually. What we’re talking about is the difference between 100 points and 90 points. I am quite certain they’ll be closer to 90 this year, but that will still be more than enough.

As for last year, they outperformed their xG by 25 points. Some of that is down to class—a low percentage chance taken by Mane or Salah somewhat ceases to become a low percentage chance. But some regression was always coming.

This definitely doesn't solve every problem in the midfield, but it's a good start.

Hopefully this a) allows more 4 in the back; and b) is the end of Xhaka being a regular starter.

There's still an obvious need for creativity, but hopefully Arteta in the meantime can continue the strides towards a 4th place trophy

Thomas will really help.

I’m looking forward to seeing more Saka /Auba/ Pepe front 3 like we saw in the second half. Laca and Eddie are cool, but neither is part of our best attacking 11

In response to Reply # 0

On principal, I’ve avoided the Flashy promo driven stuff for larger teams: juve, city, the Jose one with his new team.

But I’ve been somewhat late to the party with the redemption of fallen “Giants“ joints, and have absolutely loved them:

- I binged the two seasons of Sunderland till I die over a couple weeks during the early days of Covid, and I loved it. The personalities, the sadness of it all. Incredibly gripping, I was hoping for more. Had a “last chance U” feel. Wish they were doing more. But would be happy to see it redone in a similar setting but different league 1 or championship team. But with no fans in stadiums, it’s just Not the same

- Leeds on Amazon: just within the last tweet weeks did I finally break into this one. Enjoyed season 1. Not as much as Sunderland, possible because I knew where the story was headed, eventually to a happy ending. That said, season 2 was well done. Just two episodes, very compressed. Episode 1 is everything before Covid shutdown, is ok but skippable, episode 2 is Covid and after and is great. Did a great job of capturing the release and euphoria of making it back to EPL.

In response to Reply # 69

Madrid wanted to keep him.

He knew he wasn’t going to get a lot of time right now , because Zissou feels Dani, Mendy, Nacho and Marcelo are interchangeable. Those are a lot of players to compete against. And Zissou prefers to give veterans more minutes.

He would have been the guy in the future because of his talent ...but it wasn’t going to be immediate. He didn’t want to wait.

And Odriozola is out on loan in the wings.

Also Madrid has a buy back clause....after he has matured over at inter, he could be back at Madrid when he enter his prime.

So it’s not a big deal.

But James Rodriguez? Zissou should be shot for that. He just refused to play him.

they got enough validated signatures to vote him out early.

Font's already said that if Koeman's doing a good job, he'd ask him to stay (and Xavi said so too). please lord!

unrelated, rumors are a depay move was nixed by la liga for FFP reasons, but that depay is expected to come in Jan on a free (same with Garcia, what was Man city doing?). Dembele nixed Man U moves because he's been talking with Juventus, supposedly.

and puig got his first team number. good.

What a move, box to box mid who fits into Arteta's system so well; will unlock so much for the rest of the mids and front 3.

Would have loved to see the Aouar move but looks like that was derailed by some shadiness from intermediaries (his brother for one, who wanted an exorbitant commission). Hopefully we can move for him in January (personal terms were already agreed) because the majors (Real, PSG, Juve) will have their sights on him next summer.

Mason Mount just put in a class performance against Wales.

And I don’t even like Mason Mount. But let’s not make stuff up.

Hell, when they asked Southgate about Grealish’s performance, he went
straight to talking about Mason Mount. Clearly, Southgate doesn’t even want Grealish
on the team, but had to pick him because of public push back.

I don’t care either way. I’m not big on English players. They
are too arrogant for no reason at all. They haven’t won shit.

did not know that Liverpool got Jota

Excited to see these two sides play.

fuck Michael Oliver. We lost our best player on a dangerous play and Oliver just didn't feel like getting the card out of his pocket I guess? And where do both everton goals come from? vvd's spot. Odd, that.

fuck dumbass Richarlison for even pretending to be mad about his obvious red card yet still wasting tons of time.

and of course, fuck VAR with maybe the worst review call I've ever seen. (after NOT reviewing Pickford's obvious red because... reasons?)

I try to kind of ignore what VAR is doing to english soccer but jesus fucking christ they make it hard.

Anyway, Thiago Alcantara is next level shit.

I hope all of liverpool's injured players come back and they wreck the league, again.

is not even getting getting a red card out of it, let alone a penalty.

Just an unbelievable decision by the VAR ref.

Even by VAR standards.

I'm hoping the ACL thing is just a rumor right now because I don't think you can get ACL diagnosis this quickly.

I hope.

But you couldn’t help yourself, and again, you are playing Mount
on the wing, and you’re playing him and Havertz at the same time.

Werner is Sergio Aguero 2.0. There are no question marks about his game.

Jorginho again playing wonderfully with the passes. His defense is still
Terrible, but offensively dude is a genius.

Chilly Willy having another brilliant game.

Havertz with the terrible turnover that led to the Southampton goal. The speed of the league still has him baffled...but at least he is in his right position.

When Kepa plays there will be zero clean sheets!! And Zouma just Focked up...the stupid pass, and defenders just standing around...

When you have a lead the goal is to contract some, cant just continue to play
wide open for the whole god damn game.

This is south Hampton...they shouldn’t have 2 goals against us in the first 50 god minutes. Anybody can score against us.

All our attacking players just know offense and going forward....don’t know how to track back or mark players.

He just does not know how to control games. We have a team full of hazards....all they want to do is go forward. No one can do dirty work. Not one gritty player on this team.

Pulisic, Werner, Havertz, zyiech, Jorginho, Mount ....are all defensively weak. And we have defenders who just flat out suck, and a GK who is scared of the ball. Even Ben Chilwell, who looks great going forward, looks kind of shaky on defense.

Bottom and middle table teams look like champions when they play us.

This is the team Lampard wanted and built.

You didn’t want to keep Moses, or Pedro, and you we’re favoring
Other players over Willian... You sent Barkley out on loan, and don’t play
Kovacic.

"Team needs to be gutted."

A lot of players are out of their prime:

Marcelo
Kroos ( 30 years old...not old, but warn down)
Modric
Ramos
Benzema

Isco isn’t creative enough. The only creative player on Madrid is out injured, hazard.

It was a bad time for Hazard to go to Madrid. The team is on a down swing as far as age goes, and hazard is going to be 30 soon himself.

Madrid really needs a CAM and some new strikers ....the midfield is straight, and the backline is decent with talent in the wings. It’s not like Madrid is giving up tons of goals. The defense is what is good.

But offensively? Shit is stale, zero creativity

I only tuned it at the half so I missed Pedri's performance that the commentators kept mentioning. But... dammit we just don't look like we have any structure plus the lack of quality. Griezmann is offering nothing. De Jong is being asked to do so much in the midfield. Trincao hasn't shown me anything, Fati needs to get better at cutting inside. Players crowd each other, but then aren't there in support. I was glad Puig came on, but with only 5 minutes, he couldn't do much of anything.

At least the vote of no confidence has been moving forward.

Your team hasn’t won a first division title since 1980, so I actually hope you guys win it, so you can act like you’ve been here before, because clearly you and
y’all haven’t.

And when that new EPL reform proposal gets signed, as the Americans ( MU and Liverpool owners) look to take over English football, bye bye Aston Villa...middle table for Life.

So enjoy it while you can.

So then what's the point of a review official on dangerous play?

He can or can't review those situations? Again: can't be both.

Obviously I'm just mad we lost by far our most important player on a dirty and reckless play from a repeat offender that not only went uncalled, it went unpunished.

Once again the PL honestly makes the NFL review system look like the fucking Code of Hammurabi.

I thought the EPL was easy, bro?

Somethings in life are just guaranteed. Death. Taxes. And Aston Villa getting a middle table spot.

Back to reality. That should keep you silent for the remainder of the season.
They should do a mid table premier league... yall would win every year.

Alioski and Harrison were everywhere. Well done them. Frank’s going to have his hands full when they come to the Bridge in 6 weeks. If he’s even still there.

But Villa got 12 points from the first 15 and still sit second. That’s a good first month.

Stats were pretty much dead-even until the 80’, and then when Barca made all these changes to try to tie up the game things became just too front-heavy. Coupled with great high pressing from Madrid leading to that cool Modric goal

Also Dembele needs to stop constantly shifting back to the center when he makes a breakaway run. Spoiled a couple potential opportunities that way

-Dest should be the regular RB
-Araujo should be starting, at least semi-regularly
-Pjanic >>> busi for this system/right today
-koeman fucked up his subs (too late, just no midfield left)
-puig deserves some damn minutes

gonna be a weird year. the future is bright, but i don't think koeman survives with a new board after this year, unless messi says he'd stay for him, but considering the other option is xavi, i expect xavi is the best hope for messi to stay

The refereeing is insanely bad. And biased. Weather unconscious bias or blatantly intentional, the leeway the give to English players is insane. And don’t let it be an England international: Pickford last week, that stranglehold from McGuire not even VAR’d; yet less than a minute later they review the most phantom touch of rashford.

It’s systemic, the last gasp of the xenophobia that’s been part and parcel for a few decades. If they’re not careful, they’ll really speed up this super league that will end them.

mainly the american owned teams, because they want all the revenue and want to control the sport, so their teams don’t miss out on top competitions.

They want an exclusive EPL and an exclusive CL...all with playoffs.

The Americans are coming hard.

My point is that those top EPL teams aren’t going anywhere and are going to be the major forces behind these new super leagues. In la liga, all there is is Madrid and Barcelona. Serie A is weak, Ligue 1 is weak, etc. So MU, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Man City, and Arsenal carry more power collectively than any other league. And the owners of MU and Liverpool are really pushing that vision harder than the other clubs.

Focking Billy Beane, the man responsible for bringing Sabermetrics ( not the creator of it) into baseball and was the VP of baseball operations for the Oakland A’s ,sold his company to John Henry( owner of Liverpool) . He will now work for John Henry as a special soccer stat and business analyst with a focus on European Soccer.....a freaking baseball guy with no history or experience in soccer!

They have an EPL proposal deal on the table now , basically telling small market teams to sign or go bankrupt. Right now, so many small market teams are bleeding money due to the pandemic, and the deal would give them financial relief and save their clubs. But they would have to give up all power and veto rights to the top six teams, and the top six teams would get more of the revenue from TV deals, ticket sales, etc.....also, they went to add playoffs, cap relegation, and eliminate the league cup.

The entire proposal was drawn up by Liverpool owners.

Yanks are coming hard.

But top premier teams would have rights to sell up 8 or 9 games directly to fans on their own streaming platforms.

Here is the total proposal. Shit is wild.

That’s a fucking GK!!’ Our best defensive effort of the season. Finally.
Team showed grit, but still lost points.

Offensively? Not good. Pulisic hurt again. Silva was pretty good as far leading the line. This is proof that this team must have veteran leadership at all times.

Negative...another lineup and formation used. We seemed pretty good in a 3-4-3, taking defensive pressure off chilwell and James, letting them play as WBs .....so what will be our main formation? We are in year 2 and frank still doesn’t have one.

Our best signings of the season so far seem to be Silva and Mendy. ..we haven’t given up a goal with them on the pitch.

Reece Zouma Silva Chilwell
Kante (DM) Mount (as the box to box 8, finally)
Kai
Ziyech CP
Timo/Tammy/Giroud

Maybe it's time to give Timo and/or Kai a rest though. Seems like Kai in particular may need the treatment Frank gave CP last year. Frank had the "he's only 21 we need to ease him in" on repeat for Christian when he was benched. Kai may need that same tough love.

In response to Reply # 157

The only problem appears to be that Reece is too defensively weak to play
as a FB. He excels in the WB position like Alonso.

The back three with Azp/Silva/Zouma was solid as hell, similar to conte’s back three
Of Azp/Luiz/Cahill. The formation gives us defensive protection, allowing our
best defenders to control everything. Chilwell and Reese are studs going forward, but ,defensively, there are a lot of issues.

I know a 3-4-3 is not as open as a 4-3-3, and probably pisses frank off that he can’t let his offensive players loose, but it might be for our own good. It gives protection to the back three, allowing them to just sweep and block, and not have to face a lot of one on one attacks.

But yeah Kai as a second striker/CAM behind one of the strikers would create some good linkups....just don’t know if our defense can handle it

or possibly mount.

with Jorginho and Kante in there we have no one to link play with the offense. those Jorginho long balls over the top are nice and all but it's far from a consistent threat. we need someone in the midfield to break the lines and make a decisive forward pass because kante and jorgi on their own really don't do that (like at all).

that can link up with the midfield or send balls to attackers.

Conte’s 3-4-3 was so brilliant because he had Luiz who is wonderful playing out of the back, and then there was fabregas as the CM next to Kante....we destroyed the epl that year. Also Courtois was a great distributer. The build up was vicious from front to back.

Mendy’s ball distribution sucks major ass...you see those passes? Shit was terrible. And he is bad with the ball at his feet. Fock it. As long as he stops goals, can’t be picky.

I wish Messi would just say something like "I'll re-sign if you pick Font" and end the election.

there's going to be so many financial debacles uncovered during this temporary presidency.

I assume NES prefers the flexibility that Podence provides on the flank, but Traore is such a dynamic presence (and so much more than his physicality) that I prefer to watch him evolve with the game rather than try to force things when he only gets 20mins to shine.

Man...Wherever he goes he creates problems on the pitch because of his

He just opens up the game.

Nothing else to type. Everyone was great.
4th straight clean sheet. Mofos ain’t scoring with
Mendy and Silva playing.

Ziyech could possibly be a true hazard replacement. Dude makes it look easy.
Havertz, still don’t know about this dude. Werner has zero doubt when going for goal ...zero.

Pulisic injured himself during warmup ...I’m done with him. I told you guys how injury prone he was....He can’t stay on the pitch. And his injury history at the age of 21 is just too much. For 70 million? No.

Past decade:

PL record: 220-80
Chelsea: 11 major titles
More titles than any other English team, making them the most successful
3 European titles in a decade.

PL record: 206-81
Liverpool: 2 major titles

Aston Villa: lolololoolol.

https://talksport.com/football/634807/england-most-successful-clubs-decade-manchester-city-manchester-united-city-leicester-arsenal-chelsea-liverpool/amp/

All I wanted to know was how does Salah practice his diving, but hey, I’ll be happy to talk about winning

And who was the best player of the last decade in the EPL. The argument is either Silva, Kun, or Hazard. Not the Egyptian diver.

Salah has one CL title and 1 EPL title.....

Liverpool took a throw away beat and made a platinum album. Good for them.

Think about it , KDB, Salah ...man we had so much greatness at our club, we gave away world class players.

It ain’t to late to switch, dog....I’ll even buy your first Chelsea kit, sox to match

Busquets is, at best, the third best midfielder on barca's squad and should be treated as such. Honestly, might even be behind alena (and Koeman's just not gonna play Puig)

Dembele gives the ball away too much and dribbles too much. Like Neymar-lite when neymar played, but not nearly good enough and neymar at least tried to win the ball back.

pedri is a fucking star.

and barca's going banckrupt on thursday if there aren't wage reductions. bartomeu left an absolute shitshow.

It’s truly an illogical move on NBC’s part. It really makes no sense, because it will only push viewers away, because a lot of people don’t have cable, and the ones that do don’t necessarily have Comcast. They would have to pay for Peacock streaming to see the match.

NBC got to this level because soccer fans religiously tune into their weekly EPL games, which is great coverage. They really do an outstanding job with every aspect of their soccer programming, so their coverage makes for must see TV. However, again, it is the fans and viewers that generate the ratings, and is the reason why the EPL on NBC is where it is now. So for NBC to put some of its top matches behind a pay wall is just a huge disservice to viewers, and could really hurt NBC in the long haul.

The more we play like that, the more wins we’ll get. Martinez was good when he was needed, Grealish is trying to bust down the damn door to the England XI, and Watkins on his day is a forward’s forward.
