****prays to Baby Jesus, Ray Charles and Anwar Sadat that Warren Sapp doesn't fuck this up****

Prime Time Presser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjf9b3UxhW8

3 NFL Hall of Famers on the coaching staff

A Historically Black College with a history of producing players and currently, one of the top 3 marching bands in the country.

College in the middle of a city with a Black mayor (Blackity Black even!).

Doug Williams was a high profile hire at Morehouse back in the day...but they don't allocate resources to football like Jackson State, a SWAC school.

OH,and I am coppin that CAP!

ALWAYS BET ON BLACK BABY!!!

If Black college players can start heading to HBCU, and instead of a shitty Div I white supremacist education that cares little for them beyond their bodies, they can actually get an antiracist/positive Black education. Win-win all around.

with a highlight reel that is incomparable. He won't have as high level of competition to push him, but direct coaching from one of the GOAT corners will absolutely help. And if it doesn't work out, no penalty for transferring...

there are high schools that are actually MORE talented than some of the schools he'll be playing against next year

he seems like a thoughtful kid who cares about more than football, but lets not pretend he's challenging himself on the field. he's signing up for private position coaching with live scrimmages for the next 3 years.

put up Tecmo Bowl-like numbers Bc the difference in talent is that pronounced. No doubt about it that teams in the power 5 conference have a superior product, but the difference isn’t quite as pronounced as many make it out to be.

I’m a bit biased bc I closely follow FCS football. I was a preferred walk-on (but ended up having to stop playing) at an average to below average school, but we produced some NFL players and in a conference that produces a lot of NFL players (CAA). My close friend played for JMU, who will be moving up to FBS next season. They average like 25k a game and more than hold their own against ACC teams and even crushed ECU a few years ago. Heck, my alma mater kept it close with LSU a few years back - and that was a night game. Marques Colston is a borderline HOF who played at Hofstra when I was in college. He was an outstanding TE, but didn’t put up insane numbers. Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, and Steve McNair (he definitely put up insane numbers, but would’ve been great anywhere) all played for 1-AA/FCS teams.

Michigan fan, remember? lol

im just saying that he is going to be the singularly most talented player in a conference that generally doesnt even participate in national championship play.

and all those names you mentioned other than Colston...DID put up ridiculous record shattering numbers. hes not going to get thrown at enough to do it, but theres no reason to think he isnt going to absolutely dominate half of the field every time out.

and i stand by my original statement that there are more future NFL prospects enrolled at Mater Dei (CA) or IMG right today than at any school in the MEAC

Is because the first group (high-ranking high school athletes) are self-selecting away from the second (schools in the MEAC).

So making that comparison in this context serves no point other than to shit on HBCUs. You may not intend it that way, but that's what you are doing.

And the previous poster listed HOF caliber folks that put up video game stats. A 5-star high school ranking does not come close to guaranteeing that.

at the 1-AA/FCS level has historically been very underrated. Some of those guys would’ve put up insane #s wherever they went.

Colston was a better example. Solid, but far from prolific numbers. It’s really not that deep and I don’t have the energy for a back and forth…just saying the product is way better than what your average college football fan thinks it is.

Those teams like Mater Dei, IMG Academy, etc are a more recent phenomena. Many of high school football’s most storied programs like Permian High, don’t actually produce that many NFL players or 5 star recruits.

1) the same is true about the Ivy League. is it shitting on the Ivy League to say that? or is that just an honest assessment of the makeup of the rosters in both conferences?

2) isnt that how college sports in general works? Elite football players in the Midwest self-select to the Big 10 rather than go to MAC schools. Does that mean we should oretend that a 5* player is going to experience the same level of play at Bowling Green as he would at Michigan? Is it shitting on the MAC to say that they are significantly less talented than the Big 10.

I led off by saying that this kid clearly has bigger things on his mind than just football. But if we're just talking about football, hes playing down about 3 levels.

P5 -> G5 -> MCV/CAA -> MEAC/Ivy

And yes there is a distinction even withong FCS between conferences that compete for the national championship and those that dont.

>And the previous poster listed HOF caliber folks that put up
>video game stats. A 5-star high school ranking does not come

not in the Big 10 or SEC, but it would be VERY likely at Harvard or Morgan St. this kid is gonna dominate.

There is no HS in America that could beat an HBCU team.

In response to Reply # 0

I'm genuinely asking.
I don't watch or follow CFB.

Is it because it's football?
Or that he flipped on a Florida school?

Howard got the first 5 star to commit to an HBCU. But he wasn’t the overall number one player in his class like Deion just got (which in and of itself is a huge deal with there being way more football players than basketball players on a class.) On top of that, this was a flip from FSU, Deion’s school who passed him over for the coaching job there. You just can’t make up a story like that.

Other differences between basketball and football - historically something like this would make way more sense in hoops because you only need to play college for a year. People already know who the NBA draftees will be when they are still in high school for top recruits like this, which is why the school they choose doesn’t matter as much (and some will go overseas or choose the G league anyways.) In football you need to wait 3 years before getting drafted in the NFL, and college ball is seen as an important piece of development before being “ready” for the league. So the school choice makes a much higher impact on perception. That being said as mentioned above the landscape is changing for that because of easier transfer rules and NIL, along with an absolute top player like this getting coaching from Deion, and it’s different from other HBCU situations.

and they went. He was a five star recruit, the rest were three star but they had played AAU together.

Howard did not have a high profile coach.

In football, the head football coach is often the highest paid state employee. Enormous power. That obviously isnt the case for Prime, but in terms of his power in Jackson, Mississippi, he has already moved the needle for businesses to the tune of 30 million dollars in additional revenue during football season. That, along with his smart networking choices has made JSU a strong player on the recruiting trail. If you are a defensive back, who is going to provide better tutelage for you? Some yahoo who is at a power five school or arguably the greatest cover corner in NFL history???

Then you factor in JSU's band, the whole HBCU vibe...the NIL deals that allow a smaller school to leverage that type of sponsorship in place of the network of booster money that has made big schools a pipeline for players trying to create generational wealth for their families....

So its a different situation. Now if a Maurice Cheeks or a Isaiah Thomas (the REAL Zeke) decided to go coach at say Lincoln University in Pennsylvania or Bowie State in Maryland...it could be a similar thing.

mainly in that one elite basketball recruit can get Howard to the sweet 16 and compete against anybody

it sucks to say, but JSU football is never going to play in the Rose Bowl, and anyoje who goes there is giving up the opportunity to compete under the brightest lights on the college level.

but there are things bigger than that, and if this kid believes he's acting in service of those things then good for him.

In response to Reply # 21

which is fine but its just out in the open now instead of something that would be investigated 5 years from now.

I heard sports analysts say they need to look into it before praising Deion. Total bullshit because if he went to Florida or Bama and had an NIL they would praise the process.

NIL and damn near every football game being streamed somewhere means players can go to HBCU’s, make money AND get drafted high.

these people been running the same playbook on the recruiting trail since the 60's...like literally getting blue chip players handed to their programs.

Someone upsetting the formula is not suspect. its more like, 'FINALLY'.

Dude from South Carolina State broke out the Primetime touchdown dance in the first quarter...ouch.

he'll be back, I'm sure he'll win at least 1 or 2 championships for JSU

but among the power 5...

Id say LSU is DB U as of late

then

TOSU
Alabama
FSU
Miami
