I grew up watching the Pitt/Grown boxing matches in the Big East in the 80’s
I was shocked when I found out Georgetown was a white school as a kid. Teams were so Black.
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Big John meant so much to basketball, Georgetown, and DC. This is absolutely crushing news.

I use to watch G'town games with my dad growing up, thought G'town was a black school until I got older because those teams were unapologetically black.

This is one of the great figures in sports history, a guy who advanced not only the game but society. Guys like him and John Cheney just don't exist in college basketball anymore. People who see a wrong and stand up to right it, period. People who make a program their own and don't compromise. People who don't make players, but rather build men and let the basketball stuff fall in line behind that.
Beyond that, it just shows how quickly the links to basketball's awakening period are dying out, the guys who played in the era of Russ and Wilt and Oscar and Elgin and Jerry. Thompson was off the Auerbach coaching tree.
This was a huge loss for the game and an unfathomable one for big Pat, AI and all the guys who came through Georgetown.
And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
