This was less than a year ago

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/video/rob-gronkowski-tears-talking-about-how-football-brought-him-down

"I want to be clear to my fans. I needed to recover. I was not in a good place. Football was bringing me down, and I didn't like it. I was losing that joy in life," Gronkowski said, fighting back tears.

or

"It's a purpose to have passion in my life, to have joy in my life. And then to inspire optimal health within myself, I need to do that in order to get to a peak and then I can bring it to other people. Because I know the NFL, players are dealing with that kind of stuff, they're dealing with pain. I was. And I needed to walk away because I needed to do what was best for myself."

I just read something that laid out all of his injuries over the past few years and he's taken way more of a beating than I ever realized.

I thought he was just chillin' and trying to leave people in suspense. I really thought he was gonna come back since he hadn't announced his retirement and Brady said he was coming back.

Drew Rosenhaus (his agent) says he wouldn't be surprised if Gronk changed his mind if Brady asks.

Cam Brate was a solid receiving TE when we had Jameis. I think he can still be productive. I think we picked up 2 rookie TEs and hopefully, one of them is a better blocker.

But Gronk was a force last season. It would be nice o have him back, especially with Godwin missing some time.

Wouldn’t be surprised by this either, even if it’s just a half season run, but at some point he’s gotta weigh the importance of his health. He’s already rich, already the GOAT at his position, and has 4 rings. There’s just nothing else to prove, but of course you can say the same for Brady lol.
