We saw that when they got down by 7 or what led to that. They were eating pretty well, with PG leading the way, and Kawhi getting buckets in the first half.
PG had a great game and they should have continued to work around that. But then Kawhi starting doing iso ball, and jackson put up some highly questionable shots, and there was no flow or togetherness with their offense, as well as missing assignments on defense.
I personally feel that Jackson wasn't a need. They panicked when Beverly got hurt, and continued to be in and out of the line up. They could have continued to use Shamet and Lou at the point if he were to miss games. Now players don't know their roles, and you got too many players looking for their shot, instead of working within the offense.
Previous line up was Pat/harkless/pg/ kawhi/zubok. bench: shamet/lou/harkeless( would stay out there giving pg and kawhi rest)/green/trez.
Starting lineup would set the tone, with pg and kawhi eating, harkless spacing the floor with his 3 and D, Zubok getting second chance points and boards and Beverly being the hustle player and ball handler. The bench would be Lou and Trez leading the way with pick and rolls and getting buckets, with Shamet running the point, hitting three and playing defense and green spacing the floor as a big with his three point shooting. Everyone knew their roles.
Now with jackson on the second unit, as well as shamet, because morris starts, you got a crowded perimeter, and it stagnates the trez/lou action. They work well together. Shamet didn't get enough tick, and jackson wasn't allowing trez and lou to work collectively. Trez was eating but he couldn't hit his free throws.
Now you got Morris starting and taking about 6-8 shots, and he is a very streaky shooter. I love his dog and defense, but 8 shots and going 0-5 in his first 5 shots is not the way.
Noah, who I like( and they need a rim protector), and shouldn't be a problem to mingle in, but it's still another body to deal with. How will Doc make that work?
Lakers are very simple, which is a good thing. AD and Lebron lead the way, and other players follow with their roles. No questions about minutes, etc. So sometimes less is more.
So maybe its just a matter of time and timing because jackson, morris and noah are new pieces, so we shall see.
But regardless of who reps the west, the east is in the house.
