He is going to get in because of his name, and due to the current era of perception.

But like what Deion Sanders stated : I don’t know what a Hall of famer is anymore. It used to be that a hall of famer was a player who defined or redefined a position. Eli was none of those things. He played great twice over a two month span. But his whole body of work was average at best.

Should I pass to the next grade if I only excel during 1 month of the school year?

100%

In reality, Eli is at best a 2nd ballot HOFer

He will get in on the first ballot because he was quarterback in two super bowls where no single player deserved MVP so he got it by default.

necessarily think HOF until you realize he's the 3rd all-time leading rusher with a slim outside shot at Payton at #2.

I think its mainly because the majority of his prime was on losing teams and he never made first team All-Pro once.

with two MVPs to go along side it, his tenure with the Giants (another charter franchise)... I don't see why he would not be in the Hall.

Sure, his stats are kind of funny, Giants fans started hating him and his E-Lies at the end of his career, and he ended his career right at .500, but CMON. He's going in.

respond to this; reason being that my memories of this dude being a resident of NYC but not a Giants fan aren't the sunniest and most favorable. I've seen this dude cost the Giants so many regular season games, it's insane. But I'm not a Giants fan and gave up watching football due to the Kaepernick nonsense, so my words don't hold too much weight.

Blowing 1st round draft picks on Erick Flowers, Eli Apple, David Wilson unfortunately getting a career ending injury, etc. They’ve also had one of the worst defenses in the league in most of the years since ‘11.

The organization has done a horrific job since the last Super Bowl. None of that was on Eli.

we had some shit luck and terrible draft classes. never built a team through the draft, the turnover was comical really, and tried successfully only once to fix the issue in free agency, only to be surprised somehow that big budget players that are brought in like mercenaries under a weak, incapable coach stepping in after a power vacuum left by a micro-managing, exacting old-school field general type would slowly defect and create a poisonous, decidedly non-team-first environment that would turn off both players and fans. The lone lights in all of that were the steady presence of Eli who never once complained and toed the company line even when scapegoated and disrespected by a feeble nincompoop who never coached again, and a problematic virtuoso, a misunderstood ultimate 'Me' guy who continues to unnecessarily make waves and draw unwanted attention in Cleveland, Ohio, and was probably made greater by the presence of the former.

*takes deep breath*

IN CONCLUSION

in conclusion

Eli, while I screamed his name in anger in excess of 1000 times after a stupid throw, can not be made to bear the brunt of his own years of ineptitude.

Gotta set a guy up to succeed, is all I'm saying

Manning’s job was not to make mistakes, and just to manage the game. That’s it.

This is not a hard assessment. He does not have hall of fame individual numbers and he does not have hall of fame team numbers ( wins/losses). And that is what the hall of fame is about.

He didn’t redefine the position.

If you were to translate his football career to baseball career , he wouldn’t even be on the ballot.

Their first run was nutty and he had a gang of memorable plays but their second win, I can't think of anything of note. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but I can still feel in my bones the pain of the NFC championship against the 49ers where we HAD those motherfuckers and they couldn't get past the 50 in the second half until Kyle Williams fumbled. (Forever mad on that shit).

Like it or not, that first Super Bowl put him in the HOF, where he essentially needed to play himself out of it. While his play surely has, winning another Super Bowl cemented his place.

I give the dude credit for keeping composure better than big brother. I thought he'd win more SBs than him, he did get to two faster though.

The defense and Spagnolo is.

Patriots were stealing signals and since Spags knew that and got screwed when he played against them on the Eagles he knew to change up the signals.

How many points did the patriots score in those games?

Statistically, by the end of Matty's career, he'll have a good shot to pass Eli in yards and TDs with fewer picks and an MVP award.

Unfortunately for Matty and fortunately for Eli, Super Bowls matter end of the day. As do Super Bowl MVPs. He's also probably got that Ambassador of the Game thing going for him as a well-liked guy. So I'd be surprised if he doesn't get in, though it'd also probably raise my eyebrows a bit if he got in first ballot with his non-Super Bowl resume.

No what he is saying is that Eli is getting in just because he won 2 Super Bowls and 2 super bowl mvps ,meaning he was great for only 1 month of a season for just 2 seasons.

He is not degrading the award, but the fact that Eli is getting in on such a limited criteria, as oppose to a whole body of work.

Let’s say all of my work during the school year is failing, but I come in and pass finals and get the highest score, do I deserve to go to the next grade? No. Your grade is based on 60 percent of the work during the semester and 40 percent on finals.

That’s the point with Eli ,60-80 percent of his career is below average, with 20-40 percent being good ( SB wins/ SB MVPs ).

Ironically Tom Brady in 2002 gives him a run for his money in that department.
