i'm glad he got out on his own terms (at least to our knowledge) without suffering another season-ending concussion.

i was lowkey hoping he would have hung it up when it all went down. (that's my 2nd team).

i'm praying he (and all the other lower key players) doesn't suffer in his post playing days.

peace & blessings,

x.

i hope he's fine upstairs. i can't remember another player in any sport with that many KNOWN concussions.

the fact that he came back after those bad bad ones he had a few years ago is nuts to me, but maybe he just still wanted to play that badly and accepted the health risks or needed to stack more bread for retirement. who knows.

in the perception/conversation around these issues now.

the sports world...pundits and fans alike...overwhelmingly respect and appreciate the humanity of athletes who wanna step away from their respective games. especially when it comes to preserving their minds and bodies.

great dude, phenomenal player, played hard, didn’t complain...just couldn’t take the destruction of his body, anymore. You know, I had to just look something up. I feel like Patrick Willis did get this kind of treatment when he walked away and he actually retired before Cal.

But as much work as still needs to be done, I think things are moving very fast year to year.

His was one of the first major 'shock' retirements going back all the way to Robert Smith 20 years ago.

Now we see at least a few a year.
