then again, Utah only beat four teams with winning records so what do you expect (and those four teams are all 7-5, so just *barely* that)

Oregon did the country a big favor last night -- LSU/Ohio State vs Utah would've been scary

LSU played the most complete game of the season last week against TAMU

Georgia has an elite defense on paper, but didn't face any elite offenses

Fromm will have to play not like his usual self and actually do something

I was surprised he did so poorly at Ohio State TBH. he turned Wazzu into a top 20 defense in three years (they've fallen off again and were 113th this year). he moved Oklahoma up 88 spots in national total defense this year. Ohio State was more talented than both places, which makes his year there an odd aberration.

they improved 88 spots nationally in one year. I don't know if Grinch just had a bad year at Ohio State, there was an issue with Schiano, and maybe he's not a DC that can make a defense *elite* -- but whatever the case he was worth that $1 million to Oklahoma this season.

Moving up the rankings and stopping people are two different things. Being able to make key stops on 3rd down and in the red zone are what makes a defense these days, and Okl haven’t been able to do that in some of their games. They heavily depend on their offense.

A third stringer was able to move the ball against them today.

also, Oklahoma was 13th nationally in opponent's third down conversion percentage (31%).

Sooners have the weakest defense of the playoff teams but let's not pretend they are the same unit as 2017-2018.

They shouldn’t have been in that situation in the first place against a third stringer. Had the starting QB not gotten injured, Baylor would have walked away with that game.

They were getting punched in the mouth in the first meeting. The offense had to put up points to win. And the Kansas State game?

Not riding you. Just saying.

Georgia just keep shooting themselves. Dropped TD passes,
injuries, missed fgs. They would have 17 points by now.

Joe Burrow is sure shutting me up with how he is playing
against this defense.

Championship gotta be LSU vs Ohio State. Top offense vs top
defense.

5 top 10 Ws. Say what you want about the rankings but that hasn’t happened in like 70 years

Beat Bama at Bama with Tua
Thrashed Georgia in Georgia

Ohio State will still get 1 if they win but LSU deserves it to me

also, Fromm was abysmal and Georgia's receivers are soft. Blankenship is 1/4 in the last two SEC Championships (just to point out he's not the GOAT SEC kicker). always fun to see UGA fans fill up Atlanta with their tears.

They are rushing the ends like crazy, because dobbins can’t block for shit.

They can’t give osu time, so they are pressuring fast. Badgers are playing really really fast.

They prepared for this shit.

But no way will the badgers be able to keep up that pace in the second half.

Good test for the buckeyes.

Taylor’s huge run play made that happen. They would have simply run out the clock, but I think it was LB who missed the tackle in the hole ...then Taylor broke loose.

Chase young hasn’t been the same since coming back from suspension. But this is proof that our defense is predicated on our corners!

We have to correct that shit now. Because Wisconsin with a 2 score lead is the worse. They will run the ball and they have the best run blocking schemes in the nation which is why Taylor has 150 yards already.

We get the ball back back in the second half so we must score on that drive.

In response to Reply # 0

The cap of the penalty at 15 yards incentivizes the defense to take the penalty on big pass plays. The NFL rule, to me, forces the defense to make an authentic football play.

An analogy might be the Clear Path foul rule in the NBA. The rule prevents defenses from limiting the freedom of the play or player. The Clear Path rule rewards the offensive team for making a good play, the same as the NFL's PI rule.

NFL doesn't even know what PI is, so we don't need NCAA officials having even more leeway to make mistakes. also, the NCAA rules are broader since there are 100+ teams playing.

yes you can just tackle someone to stop a TD. but NCAA also allows more downfield linemen/blocking than the NFL and the hashes are wider (more space for offense). so I wouldn't say it puts offenses at any disadvantage -- just easier to official PI in general.

i think the rules should be universal from high school to nfl so yea...it seems ideal

but at the same time the thought of a 40 50 60 70 80 yard penalty (on a deep bomb/hail mary)
w the placement of the ball at spot of the foul just seems absurd to me

There was a play in the OSU/UW game which made me post the initial comment.

The UW DB was beat on a play and took a PI to prevent an OSU touchdown. I wasn't pulling for OSU necessarily but it seems shitty that the OSU WR outplayed the DB but wasn't rewarded for his outstanding play. By giving the offense the ball at the spot of the penalty, it gets a bigger reward for the mistake by the defense.

But like will said, with the quality of officiating poorer in the NCAA than the NFL, there's a greater likelihood that a spot-of-foul rule is miscalled. Then it's not fair to the defense to have the field switched because of a bad call.

I just talked my way out of my own position.

that defense has rounded into form and they still have an elite quarterback with game-breakers all-around him. Venables is the best DC in America, so I wouldn't want to face him in an elimination bowl with a month to prep.

27-0 in the second half.

Talk about domination!

The problem was that Wisconsin played very fast to beat OSU in the first half.
oSu always plays fast, so you knew badgers weren’t going to be able to sustain
That in the second half. Dead tired.

Their plan was to get a lead early and then do what they always do, run the ball to protect the lead. But you need energy to do that. oSU was fresh as hell and fast.

Can’t pretend to be a fast team.

They just destroyed a good Georgia team and held them to a FG until they game was over.

Ohio State has a gangster point differential but the Big 10 is weak when it comes to offense.

And the the SEC is weak when it comes to defense, which was proven in the amount of points that LSU gave up against teams with good offenses. They just simply outscored Alabama.

Ohio State clamped down on all opponents, and they were never under threat of losing any games they played.

I give OSU the edge because they have been dominant from beginning to end, and beating a top 15 school twice in a season, where they shut them out in the second half, demonstrates their ability to dominate even when coming from behind.

It will be interesting seeing if OSU can hang with a legit offense.

I think Clemson has been ignored because of their schedule.

- Trevor Lawrence grew up in east Tennessee and was a Peyton Manning fan. Tennessee led his top three for a while, but Butch Jones thought he had his man when Hunter Johnson committed the year before (he flipped to Clemson anyway). Lawrence said his relationships with the UT coaching staff were not as strong as Clemson.

- Justin Fields wanted to visit Tennessee after his sophomore year, but according to his dad, Tennessee basically blew him off.

- Amari Rodgers grew up in Knoxville and is TEE MARTIN'S SON.

- Tee Higgins grew up right outside Knoxville and committed to Tennessee, but Butch screwed that one up too.

all four will be in the CFB playoff.

- Joe Burrow left OSU to join LSU when Dwayne Haskins was named the starter. No Joe Burrow, LSU wouldn’t even be in the picture. However, OSU would, with an even more explosive offense with Burrow as QB. Shows you how strong Meyer is as a recruiter. Would OSU have won the NC last year with Burrow? Possibly. In hindsight, I wonder if Meyer makes the same decision.

- You know this one. Bama decides to go with Tua over Hurts. Hurts leaves because he does not want to be a back up. He leads OKL offense and gets into the PO. Tua gets injured, leading bama to missing out on making the PO.

The transferring and recruiting in college football at the QB position is beyond dynamic.

I also forgot

Justin Fields was at Georgia. He gets called a racial slur at the school, and immediately transfers to OSU. Had he stayed, does he win the QB job and lead Georgia to the PO?

Would OSU be as dynamic without him?

Crazy how the three teams in the PO were affected by big time QB transfers.

Committee made osu #1. There is zero justification for dropping them after osu beat 3 top 12 teams in a row.

And UGA as a top 4 team is a complete farce. Not to mention how banged up they are.

and highlights how ridiculous and illogical this process is...

osu beat 3 top 10 teams in 3 weeks. every non-conf opponent played for a championship. NO FCS teams.

you don't drop a team after that.

my feeling is that you take a stand that a team is #1 which the committee did...you don't drop them after beating a top 10 team.

at these 2 teams flipping after the championship games.

Dominating a top 5 opponent carries more weight than a second half comeback vs a top 10 team.

and regular season is part of the season as well.

we're going in circles here.

also what's funny is that we're assuming the committee made this decision off of what happened in the championship game when we really have no clue. they can do whatever they want for whatever reason they want and don't have to justify shit. LSU could've won by 3 and still moved ahead of OSU if that was their agenda.

both osu and lsu are worthy of that spot and probably equally so.

I have a problem with osu losing it's #1 ranking after the final saturday. that's not a logical maneuver IMO. this shit is like replay overturning a call made on the field. I need some hard evidence/justification.

and do you agree with uga's #5 final ranking? I have a big issue with that. especially after last year when 2-loss uga was ranked ahead of 1-loss conf champion osu. there's a problem here.

incidentally, osu AD gene smith stepped down from the committee after last year and cited his disagreement with uga's ranking as his reason for disassociating himself from the process.

man this is a weird one to try and predict...could be a really interesting game except you'd have to think both teams are going to be missing a lot of players. harb needs this one a lot more than anyone else on the field or the sidelines does.

Prolly goes to overtime but I think Clemson wins like 44 to 42 in OT.

You think Clemson is giving up more than 21 points to Ohio State or LSU. They only gave up 20 pts once the entire season.

you could take the best players from every team they faced this year and they still wouldn’t be as talented as LSU.

LSU’s offense ain’t nothing to f wit.

just because Clemson has kept opponents in check this year.

For the record I think Clemson wins on a shootout but holding LSU under 15 points? Sheeeeit. I’ll take that bet
