"College Football Saturday Penn St/Buckeyes "

What looked like a blowout turned into a tight one.

This backup QB for PSU is a problem.

Buckeyes fumbling and playing tight in the second half. Doesn’t look like the Buckeyes are trusting the QB’s arm right now.

They were up 21-0 but then started making errors with protecting the ball.

But they still showed their dominance and that defense still did it’s thing.

Plus penn state is ranked number 8. ...31-17, 31-14 was always my prediction.

Ohio State is still the best team in the country.

They are errors. The offense didn’t protect the ball. Defenders go for strips all the time, but the player has to protect or hold on to the ball. The coach does say that’s not our fault, those things drive coaches mad.

Take those plays away and Penn did nothing. And that defense held a top 10 team to 17 points. LSU and bama can’t say that.

However, Michigan? They are probably the hottest team in the NCAA right now. That is going to be a thought game. If OSU handles them easily? Now that would be a statement.

PSU has a little bit of talent and most of the plays were made by 38.

They converted on the turnovers so all that “if my aunt had balls shit” doesn’t matter.

It does matter because it tells you the true story of the game.

If a runningback breaks for 70 yards, and then has 30 yards the rest of the game, did he actual have a good running game against the defense?

No. Because he got 70 percent of his yards from one carry.

Just saying OSU still put in a rather dominating performance regardless of the score, and penn states’s opportunities came from uncharacteristic mistakes by OSU.

People used to do that all the time with Willie Parker.

“Take away his long run and he didn’t have a bunch of yards”

That’s dumb. You have to give the other team credit.

It’s not dumb. It’s called a fluke run. Or gaining yards on a fluke play when the defense stuffed the run for most of the day. That’s why intricate stats matter.

If a WR is defended by a shut down corner, and he gets nothing for the game, and then on one play the defender slips leaving the WR open for a big 70 yard catch to score a TD. That’s a fluke play. The defense held him and the offense in check.

Other than the fluke play the team or offense did nothing. And that is how it would be perceived and coached when all the stats and tapes are reviewed.

We see it all the time in games where bad teams win games from fluke plays or have no business winning games, but we don’t rank them or think they are good teams because we know that fluke play or fluke win does not change how bad they are.

Come on, dude. You watch sports. It’s very simple.

A 70 yard run is now a fluke play?

We aren’t talking about a bobbled snap or a backwards pass that a RB didn’t fall on. This was 2 forced fumbles made by the defense.

No one fell, no one slipped. PSU forced turnovers and then scored TD’s on offense. The fuck are you really arguing over?

Your one of those dudes who latch onto a team and if they don’t win convincingly you make excuses for it instead of giving the other team credit when it’s due.

Like you said earlier. PSU was ranked 8th. They aren’t a bad team.

If a bad team beats a good team I don’t give a shit about what you call it. All these long as explanations won’t change that L into a W.

No not at all. But I know one thing you love to name call and assume, instead of just posting.

Fluke plays are called fluke plays for a reason . Just like some championships are considered fluke championships ( or one offs) if you don’t repeat, said by Jordan himself. Fluke just means a one off, where a team or player does not normally do something.

And no I don’t latch on to teams and assume anything. All I know is OSU was destroying PSU 21-0 and moving the ball, and then they turned it over to give pSU
that good field position. PSU’s offense did not drive down the field and was in check for for most of the day. It’s like Bshelly stated in this thread : nice of OSU to let PSU hang around. Clear to anyone who watched that game who the dominating team was.

.

How the fuck does a team have a fluke championship? No one has ever won a fluke championship. You can’t fluke your way into a championship game. That’s dumb.

I never called you a name. I may say your point is stupid or doesn’t make sense but show me where I called you a name in this thread.

Last but not least. I never said OSU wasn’t the better team. I said a blowout turned into a close game. 21 to 17 and PSU getting the ball back is a close game.

You are just arguing to argue at this point. Mad because a blowout turned into an interesting game and made you sweat for a bit.

Woah. Slow sown there ranger.

I think he is the best player in college this year. However, not the greatest ever

Reggie White at Tennessee
Clowney at South Carolina
Suggs at ASU

Julius Peppers — now that was a sight to see

But Suh at Nebraska was crazy , 4th in the Hesiman voting, swept all the defensive end awards and won best defensive player in college

Chase is great but I can’t put him over those guys.

I'd need to have seen them and they also need to have played DE.

Suh was a DT

not old enough to have seen reggie white

and Clowney was not near the every down player that Chase is.

chase will go down as an all time great especially if his performances against wisky and psu are sign of things to come on the big stage...because he's got a bunch left to play.

YEah you should go watch them.

Especially Peppers. I’m not sure how old you are, but if you have never seen others play at the position, can’t really say one specific person is the greatest. But young is one of the greatest.

Clowney was the main reason South Carolina was winning. As good as young is, OSU’s defense and team can still dominate without him. That wasn’t the case without Clowney.

But for me Julius Peppers , possibly fastest DE of all time. Ran a 4.60/40 and would count the sacks during each game. As well as as get interceptions from constantly ripping the ball. And on top of that he played basketball for North Carolina as well.

But young is is a beast.

I never said he was the greatest...ive said he's the greatest I've seen.

Clowney's junior season didnt meet expectations and his stats aren't in the same category as chase.

Only won by 3 but felt like the game was solidly in the Vols' hands. And it looks like you found a quarterback. It seems like the type of win which instills confidence in a team.

In response to Reply # 0

Apparently 10 years of 8-5 seasons at Mizzou has the fan base feeling itself and is frothing at the mouth to get Barry Odom out.

Yes, the school hasn't taken a leap forward but the coach after a legend (Pinkel)rarely catapults the program into greatness. (maybe Reily in UO?) I get that this year has been dissapointing but part of that is on the fan base for thinking this team was going 10-2 or winning the Sec East after we led the standings (after 2 games).

Mizzou isn't going to be a football powerhouse and I wish the fan base would just accept this. We don't have billionaire boosters propping up the budget, the academic standards are too high to match any school in the conference outside of Vanderbilt, and it's a hard sell to get kids in the South to move to mid-Missouri and freeze in the Winter to play ball.

The success was/is great but I think people forget Mizzou was a laughing stock for thirty years and that is more of the norm for the team than 9-3 years.

It's like the fans think the school is Nebraska and they can just cycle through coaches because of some legacy which only they believe.

Going to a mid-tier bowl game every year with a great year every 5 years would be great. It's crazy to think fans feel they are entitled to more.

In response to Reply # 34

not sure about Odom but they weren't an elite team in the Big 12 for most of their run, so not sure why'd they be an elite team in the SEC

I'd imagine Missouri is on edge because they were 5-1 at one point and nobody in the bottom four of any conference is happy

but I agree that cycling coaches just to cycle through coaches can have *devastating* long-term effects

just look at...Tennessee

for Mizzou/Kansas in 2007, that feeling is intoxicating. For your team to be in the spotlight and relevant is amazing. That being said, can’t disagree with anything you’ve said here. We’re simply not going to get an elite coach...or by extension...the best players. Odom isn’t blameless though. More than anything, this all illustrates just how under appreciated Gary Pinkel was, in the moment. He made Mizzou into a team that mattered. Was he flawed? Sure. But, he literally brought this program from nowhere to, at its peak, knocking on the door of a National Championship. Imagine that! It was a realistic thought before Sam Bradford and Jermaine Gresham tore our secondary to ribbons.

Missouri's bowl ban for 2019 season upheld by appeals committee

10:18 AM PT

Mark Schlabach Adam Rittenberg

An NCAA appeals committee has upheld Missouri's bowl ban for this season, the school announced Tuesday.

"We are deeply disappointed and appalled by the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee's decision to shirk its responsibilities and simply uphold sanctions that are not consistent with precedent or even common sense," Missouri chancellor Alexander Cartwright and athletic director Jim Sterk said as part of a joint statement.

The Tigers, at 5-6 overall, could have qualified for a bowl game by beating Arkansas on the road in Friday's regular-season finale.

In January, the NCAA banned Missouri's football, baseball and softball teams from the postseason for a year and placed the entire athletic department on probation. The programs also lost scholarships and faced other recruiting restrictions.

Missouri officials appealed the postseason ban in March. In a 64-page brief to the NCAA appeals committee, the Tigers argued that the original ruling was contrary to NCAA precedent, was not appropriate given the nature of the allegations and could set a dangerous precedent for future NCAA enforcement decisions.

The case began in 2016 when a tutor, Yolanda Kumar, admitted she violated NCAA rules by completing coursework and ensuring athletes in football, baseball and softball passed certain classes.

Missouri conducted an internal investigation after Kumar made allegations against the athletic department on social media. Tigers officials cooperated with the NCAA during its inquiry and issued self-imposed penalties. Kumar received a 10-year show-cause from the NCAA.
