>a German with a solid jump shot beat the greatest athlete in
>his prime in world history

6th on all-time scoring list and one of the most unstoppable offensive forces the game has ever seen.

But yea - just "a German with a solid jumper", right?

Dirk's an ATG; LeBron is top 2 (and climbing) and the most accomplished individual talent the game has ever seen.

Anything else?

Not close as to being the greatest athlete. He’s not even the best basketball player to ever play.

I do think that him in LA is almost "Wizards Jordan"
but I do get a lil geeked watching how geeked Lakers announcers are calling his good plays. It just hits that nostalgia button. That being said, he still is above so many others 17 seasons in. I don't know how he does it.

2011 will be the darkest mark on his resume, and people will have their "3-6" jokes but I've never seen ONE person take teams to places they shouldn't more than LeBron has done it.

It's like if Iverson continued to do that for a decade.

(I still think "Iverson" is the real LeBron antecedent)

and you can see why he said it. He's had a first hand account of just how great James is - first seeing LeBron drag the Cavs (without Kyrie and Love) to 6 games w/ the Dubs - then a front-row seat to the 2017 Ring of all Rings which necessitated unprecedented stacking of talent just to beat LeBron.

Kerr coached the most talented team in NBA history and still concedes that there's simply nothing like the force of LeBron James. Only way to take down that Lion is to swarm him with dozens of hyenas. No single player can match him pound for pound.

>I do think that him in LA is almost "Wizards Jordan"

>announcers are calling his good plays. It just hits that
>nostalgia button. That being said, he still is above so many

It's insane that it's championship or bust in his 17th year. That's a standard that no other player has been held to - but it's par for the course for LeBron to be held to the highest of standards. This ain't Wizards Jordan though - at least not yet. LeBron is legitimately in the MVP hunt. Jordan was never even close to that level as a Wizard.

>2011 will be the darkest mark on his resume, and people will

It's definitely the lowest point of his career - but if almost averaging a triple double in the Finals is the lowest point of your career - that's pretty damn good. But even if the Heat had won that 'chip - his detractors would still find a way to discredit him - i.e. "LeLegacy saved by Wade!" or some nonsense.

after reading this i had to chuckle a little, it reads like the president is talking. only thing missing is a couple of "huge"s...

i'm not even feeling like debating this back and forth because treating bball like tennis just doesn't work for me.

let me just leave this here:
- no player ever did anything just by himself to win in this league.
- i know it completely doesn't fit your narrative, but maybe the cavs weren't that bad. and the warriors not that good. doesn't diminish lebron's greatness imo.
- also, the eastern conference.
- lebron calling himself the goat (something most of all the other all time greats don't do, including MJ btw), obviously wants more rings and is playing on a top contender. what else should the expectations be for him and this team??
- jordan was 40 and came back to the non contending wizards after being retired for the second time.
nice try tho.

MJ could complete his 2nd 3peat at the age of 35
Sit out for 3 whole seasons and then comeback at
38 & 39 to avg 21pg, 6rebs, 4ast, 1.5st
dude even played all 82 of his final year
all this after a 3yr layoff! Thats impressive AF

It would be interesting to have Bron in an parallel universe
retire for 3yrs after this season and comeback to see what he
would look like

Bron is still the better athlete
Dude is a physical aberration
But think we discount count Wizards Mike a lil too easily

You know it’s actually possible to appreciate the greatness of both MJ & LeBron, right?

>i'm not even feeling like debating this

Yet here you are.

>let me just leave this here:
>- no player ever did anything just by himself to win in this
>league.

Of course. Nobody knows that better than LeBron - who has dragged more deficient teams to the Finals than any of his peers. Nobody wins multiple titles in this league without being surrounded by ATG talent - and nobody does more with less than LeBron James. Both things can be (and are) true.

>- i know it completely doesn't fit your narrative, but maybe
>the cavs weren't that bad. and the warriors not that good.

Lol where’s the evidence and facts to back up this baseless, hallow statement?

Literally nobody has ever made the claim that those Cavs teams were better than they appeared. Why? Evidence. When Bron left those teams, they went from Title contenders to lottery bottom feeders.

>- lebron calling himself the goat (something most of all the
>other all time greats don't do)

Ever heard of a guy named Muhammad Ali? Nah, me neither.

>- jordan was 40 and came back to the non contending wizards
>after being retired for the second time.
>nice try tho.

Jordan was 38 (you might want to brush up on your facts, out here skewing data like your boy Trump who you oddly brought into this).

But sure - cook away.

just replying to yall hyperbole which at least to me would be a little funny if didn't come off as serious opinion.

>You know it’s actually possible to appreciate the greatness

lol absolutely. can you ease off the awkward comparisons to make one individual way bigger than he is tho?

>

yep. apparently can't help it.

evidence and facts? lol @ the irony.
btw, context makes things interesting and usually more "true". it's usually missing in those dumb goat debates and it for sure is missing in the points being made here...

>
>>- lebron calling himself the goat (something most of all the
>>other all time greats don't do)
>
>Ever heard of a guy named Muhammad Ali? Nah, me neither.

lol my overall point was more directed at you being amazed about the expactions but of course you focus on that jab lol. see me saying "most"?

btw, difference between ali and bron here? imo ali spoke in an entertaining MC way. the self-aggrandizing was meant to be over the top and entertaining at the same time.
bron? great player, great accomplishments, but himself too caught up in a goat debate and corny self-serious myth making. only thing missing was strings in the background.
not entirely his fault, as the media has been looking for the next jordan and hyping up players to be the heirs since the early 90s.
i don't even mind you digging that tho as long as i'm free to express that i think that shit is corny and over the top.

there's another major difference between ali and bron but that's besides the point and i don't want to get called out here for not being educated enough on foreign affairs...

>>- jordan was 40 and came back to the non contending wizards

LOL you really got me here buddy! my point was, mj was 40 playing on the sucky wizards with shot knees coming out of retirement.
right, in late 2001 mj was approaching 39. obviously that's much different, not at all like being 40. sorry for me skewing data, my bad!!!

i'm a little amused how you present your over the top opinion as facts without any humor or irony (maybe i'm missing it? if so, my bad). hence the #45 comparison.
and that's why i cared to reply. imo important in our times even tho we all have better things to do.
for real, have a good day!

the first year mike could still flip the switch and he was good most nights. second year he was washed. lebron is several levels above even the first season. he's not the greatest athlete ever but he's up there. in the nba i can't think of too many better athletes. might be limited strictly to wilt. in other sports there are some. decathletes are always in the convo and heptathletes too like JJK. jim brown, jackie robinson, jim thorpe ... it's some pretty amazing ones.

>..I love basketball, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna
>cosign anyone claiming that the greatest athlete in the world
>is an NBA player.

but a tennis player is in bounds for consideration?

I don't think there's anything about basketball that disqualifies it from an athleticism standpoint. The combination of speed, strength, agility, dexterity, depth perception etc. of basketball requires world-class athleticism.

Kerr aptly pointed not just to the technical facets of his athleticism, but also the durability aspect of how he's been able to command his body to perform over such a long, sustained time - at such a high level. He's in year 17 and just had a dunk-of-the-year candidate play against the Hawks.

Serena is a GOAT - but her body has broken down quite a bit over the years. Not to say she hasn't been impressively durable - she has - but Bron is setting a new standard of IronMan durability.
To still be *that* athletic at this stage of his career is crazy - with all that mileage on his body.

It's not just the 17 years - it's the decade long consistent high performance, deep Finals runs every.single.year. You'll likely never see an individual player accomplish that again. The Warriors went to 5 straight Finals and were able to share the load and acquire elite reinforcements (Durant) mid-way through their run - and *all* of them are broken down. Steph? injured, likely out for the year to save his body. Klay? 8+ months out. KD? 12+ months out. Draymond? Has dealt with consistent injury; his game looks aged already.

Let's enjoy it - we'll never see it again.
