"John Belein is the best thing to happen to the Cavs"

in quite some time.

The Cavs's W/L record is on par with a team that won 19 last season, but this team is an absolute improvement despite not really changing its personnel this year.

Part of it is the improvement of Tristan Thompson and Collin Sexton (NOPE, that agenda still stands), who has become a markedly improved defender. Another part is having a guard like Darius Garland who is a superior playmaker. Another part is Kevin Love actually playing his game.

But altogether there is an actual system, actual plays, and less of the freelancing that have plagued post-LeBron Cavaliers teams.

I still have them marked for 30 games this season but if this improvement continues on, we could be talking a low seed (which means ATL gonna get that pick, which I'm not so good about).

It's a good feeling.

They should have beat the Sixers last night for as poor as Tobias Harris's shooting was (and the team's shooting in general), and the fact they lead by 5 numerous times late in the 4th. Kevin Love taking the last shot isn't a bad call but I'd rather it have been Sexton. Probably was the backup play.

National media is taking notice too. Probably because of the Belein factor, but it's well deserved. he is a great coach with the right opportunity.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

He looks like he will work out favorably as an NBA coach. Hopefully Altman can be wise about the talent that he brings in. I still don’t see them winning 30 games, but I will bring it up from 15-18 wins to about 20-22 wins.

As for Tristan and Sexton... Tristan is back to playing how he’s always played. He still though can’t defend the 7 footers too well (as seen from him guarding Embiid last night). Sexton is still Sexton... no improvement really. He will always be a guy that can score, but can’t do anything else. As the Cavs bring in more players, I’d like to see them moves Sexton to the bench because I don’t know how much longer they will keep Clarkson.

Tristan is probably gone after this year, do they move Love? Will they be a big player in 2020 free agency? After AD will there be any big names out there? Sexton and Garland are an exciting backcourt offensively but they're kind of small defensively aren't they?

As soft as those dudes are, thugs would have been a compliment, which would have meant playing street, prison like ball, being overly tough.

They were saying the same thing on TNT. The fact that the his assistants told him that he said thugs, and it wasn't the players, lets you know there wasn't an issue.

Plus Love and Oseman ( the other white guy) were in the locker room as well, so there wasn't a racial element.

Slug does make more sense. ....as in playing slow as hell.

How did it leak out of the locker room, and it appears more like a set up of wanting to get that dude canned. Rumor has it that he has those guys playing hard in and out in practice, and some of the young guys don't like his old school approach.

They did play bully ball tonight though, and pulled out a tough overtime win against the D. So maybe they need to be called thugs more often.

EVERYone on the team seems to hate this dude. It isn't about
playing "hard." It's about the fact that he has no fucking
idea what he's doing

He does NOT coach 18 year olds who play for free

He coaches the best athletes in the world, all of whom
UNDERSTAND the game.

The only one of the players I am sure about this being the case is Kevin Love, and that was evident the night he had his "memeable moment"

I suspect Tristan does too but he is way more professional and diplomatic about it in public (he has learned that from LeBron, how to politic).

The rest of the team?

No impression.

As for "UNDERSTANDING" the game...

There are some players (rookies included) that do more so than others.

Overall? It's like watching the White Shadow.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

The only reason I believe his weird statement, is because I actually watch the Cavs play regularly.

NOTHING about them suggests "thuggish" basketball at this point.

"Sluggish" makes ALL the sense. The only one with some real speed is Colin Sexton, who tries to go down the court like Sonic The Hedgehog, looking for his own shot to the detriment of the rest of the offense.

People ain't communicating on screens (see Kevin Love's outburst), there is way too much dribbling on key possessions (no one on this team justifies extended ISO IMO), defense is lethargic, etc. Their most redeeming quality is that at one point in many games they get it and start clawing back. just haven't been able to sustain it for 48 game minutes.

Freudian slip at best.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

but - as you noted - Freudian slipped himself into saying 'thuggish' - which is just as unacceptable to me because it implies that subconsciously he really believes them to be thugs. I'd have to check his youtube activity and news habits though to be certain lol.

Darius "No New Friends" Garland had 20 and 7 (assists)

The OP still stands.

Shit was totally exaggerated by the media, especially in this knee jerk response era. Good to see the players go out, band together over that crap, and play good tough basketball, and then celebrate tristan’s career night in the locker room.

They have a lot pieces that do and don’t fit. Losing clarkson was huge, but I do like Kevin Porter, and he could turn into a kelly oubre with his ability. In fact, they do have that Phoenix Suns makeup with the young players they have. So Garland, Sexton , and porter could turn into a nice threat in years to come.

Just gotta stop with the senseless turnovers.

on the fuckin Nuggets.

Darius Garland aka "Cliff Paul" with 8 assists, double digit points, saved them in the 4th, and not just by scoring. Off Ball Sexton finding his way.

the team doesn't want to fire him (they gave him a 5-year deal for Prime's sake); Beilein wants to quit.

now if I were to wager a guess, it's because he's trying to instill a system (since the team is very young), but the vets aren't having all these practices and whatnot.

and if I were to wager ANOTHER guess, a certain someone who has a huge contract and possibly a certain someone else whose contract is ending soon are the ones making most of the noise. (that's where the indirect "Dan" blame would come from)

feel bad for our young players who have to go through this again, so early in their careers.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

The coach knew this was a rebuilding team before he signed the contract so why is he unhappy. JB is interim coach so if we fire him we lose his father in the front office. It sounds like we'd be OK if we got rid of the vets. Dump Love and Tristan while keeping the tank rolling.

The players were ranting against his formal ways, and doing things to trigger his temper meant. The problem with the young generation, they have no understanding of reasoning, or understanding on how to cooperate with or under rules that they don’t agree with.

I think every situation needs to be 50/50, or even 70/30, where there are times to move in the coaches way or the player’s way. However, it can’t be a one sided mission. But players want it their way all the time.

These players want to say that everything is culturally bias, or being a disregard to their cultural identity. When certain methods are in place to see if you can simply follow directions and stick to a routine.

Also, it’s hard for people with money to listen. The more money you have the less you listen, especially to those who you feel is lesser than you. This is why a lot of rich people get caught up in crimes and illegal situations, they only listen to other rich people. So young plus rich = not listening to a damn thing.
