He hosts a good show and is engaging on-air, even if he is just a bit of a hot-take artist. I think for a man of his generation he's pretty tolerant.
But he makes comments about Cam which do kind of have dog-whistle elements to them and I lose a bit of respect for him. And he did have a problematic comment last year or the year before which he had to apologize for. So he's probably like a lot of White people in that he's got some unresolved racial bias, even if he does cover a mostly Black beat.

And his persona on his talk show is a lot different from his persona on First Take or even SEC Gameday. On his radio show, when I listened, he never got into his issue with Cam. He's more conversational on his show and less hot take artist. I don't like the First Take/SEC Gameday persona and so while I'm not shocked he would have a blind spot, it is disappointing.
There are unfortunately journalists who bring their biases into their work. Look at Skip with Troy Aikman and LeBron. Or Stephen A. with Magic. I'm not calling it right (I don't really follow either of those two I mentioned).
Like you seem to be getting at there is a market for journalists speaking in dog whistles, sad to say. (not that I'm saying anything new)
