I didn't watch a lot of Utah regular season games but I saw most of their playoff series against Houston and he was average, in games 3,4, & 5 he averaged like 8ppg and was a non-mf factor

... can throw us off as fans, because our last "taste" of these players are generally their playoff performances, although these are technically still regular season awards (to my knowledge)

I don't know what they have to do to get it there, but the monologue was definitely unnecessary IMO. He made it sound like he was obligated to have one since he was a host
I'm not sure if they need to just announce some of the lesser awards beforehand or what, but there's simply not two hours worth of entertainment there
And for god's sake, move it to before the postseason

But what about instead of a classic awards show they invite the winners (the NBA would announce the winners before in the week before the playoffs) and have live interviews intercut with highlights of their play and the players interacting with their team? They could get the Inside the NBA guys to interview/roast the winners (or also invite the Showdown crew to some of the interviews).
Since the NBA is all about its stars, the award 'show' could help the NBA market their stars in a unique way. This way the NBA gets a way to celebrate their season and the announcement of the winners isn't so anti-climactic.
