"the far too early KD should stay poast"

i thought he should stay anyway because of the following:

- anywhere he goes is still gonna be considered a superfriends situation, unless he got patience to rebuild somewhere

- who he gonna play with? bron? that would be worse (in public perception) than playing with steph and 'nem. kyrie? shit. i wouldn't. w/ kawhi somewhere? he's now in the same breath as kd, so that'd be going to the dubs all over again

- the fans (and, real haters and imaginary haters) are ALWAYS gonna talk shit. knowing ppl gonna talk shit is part of growing up. he went down in the playoffs and he went from 'best player on the planet' to "kawhi best player on the planet' to 'dubs better without him'. playing to public opinion is a losing game. always. he should ignore that shit

my thoughts after the injury:

- unless there was some shady shit where they were pressing him against his will, he should stay at GS

- who else has the patience to let a potential superstar player sit out damn near a whole season before coming back? (they did it w/ boogie)

- who else has the luxury, roster wise, to do that and still win?

- who can pay him more? (and if they offer anything less than the maximum that will be truly fucked up)

- by all accounts, dubs have one of the best organizations, if not THE best organization in the league as far as the extra shit they do for their players and players' families compared to other squads.

unless there was some bullshit behind the scenes, he needs to stay.

peace & blessings,

x.

For all the reasons that you listed and more.

Even with all the phony narratives that they try to project onto his situation, he's beloved here by the fans and his teammates.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Warriors sign him to the extension this off-season anyway. As I said in the other post, I'd certainly take him not playing for a year if it meant keeping him in the long term.

EDIT: Oh, and they won't offer him less than the maximum. KD has taken less than he could for the last few seasons with the knowledge that they'd give him the max after his third season here. They aren't about to go back on that, injury or no injury.

I'm actually way more pissed off about this than I thought I ever would, because I can just see the agendas crashing down in my head. I was ready to party this offseason.

now because that team got greedy, they gotta make good on their mistake.

but most of all, this really, REALLY sucks for him. he's gonna have one year gone from his career at least, and when he comes back, there's no way it will be the same.

i mean, i'm assuming one of his criteria would be a well run franchise.

how many well run franchises with legit title hopes, complementary players AND max money cap space are there right now?

on a spinoff note, i really hope kawhi stay in toronto. they got a really nice core, and if he can take siakam under his wing? that dude is an emerging star. they are a problem.

peace & blessings,

and I was born in DC, so of course, I'm the biggest KD stan on the planet. I'm also not a moron.

Facts ("Hard truths cut both ways" -Stannis, the daughter killer, but still true):

-Thunder win the title if Klay doesn't go bonkers and hit 11 3's, the Thunder were the best team that year and Golden St was beat up from that series and ran cold against the Cavs

-KD joins Warriors, people think he might be the 3rd option (OMG, lol, but true) and is just there to passively get a ring

-KD carries the team because let's be honest Steph and Klay can go OFF at times, but consistency is in question, KD is Mr. Consistency, wakes up on game day knowing he's getting 25+ on efficient shooting (the anti-Kobe). Iggy and Draymond were often the 2nd and 3rd best players on the court those 2 years. No sleight to Klay because he always put 100 percent into locking down whoever he guarded and he's the human spacer, allowing everyone else to get theirs without doing anything but being there.

-Warriors were a one and done championship team without him, no dynasty, nope. They needed him as much as he needed them.

-Warriors fans go apeshit this year when they sweep a mediocre, guard-heavy team without any frontcourt talent, "Oh, we're better without him!" JFC, that level of disrespect doesn't even exist in most other fanbase's realities. It's almost like the Patriots or Packers saying they'd be better without Brady or Rodgers because the backup QB played well against some garbage teams.

-Even in a limited time before the injury, you can see how much better they are with him, he's built for grind it out, playoff-style basketball

-Fuck Toronto fans. In their defense, I think they got caught up in the moment and were cheering their team's shot at winning when KD went down, but its still not a legit excuse. I've been in the building when Todd Day went down against UT and would never have dreamed of cheering for someone to be in that kind of pain, and we hated Arkansas in that era. I've also been to OU games when a Longhorn or Sooner got hurt, everyone applauded when they were OK, and again, we hate each other between the lines. YOU JUST DON'T CELEBRATE A PLAYER SUFFERING LIKE THAT. EVER.

-I hope he stays, it's clear that despite the media trying to put a wedge between these guys, they have each other's backs, and that's all that matters.

-If he comes back from injury and stays, they get 3 more titles (dead serious).

-If KD never plays again he's a first ballot HOFer and the greatest offensive weapon of all time. You can't put him on Lebron, MJ, or Kareem level, but easily as good or better than Magic, Bird, Dr. J. Any kind of Kobe comparison: LOL. If your top 5 doesn't include him, bless your heart.

He's their neutralizer when they go up against the most elite players. We saw last night how he neutralized Klaw for a half and the Warriors were in control of that game.

>-Warriors were a one and done championship team without him,
>no dynasty, nope. They needed him as much as he needed them.

I wouldn't go this far. We don't know if they still replace Harrison or not. But they were much deeper and still were the best team in the West. Maybe the go 2-2 or 1-3 vs the Cavs but they'd still be competing for titles right now.

>-Warriors fans go apeshit this year when they sweep a

Nah, this would be like their backups skating the the AFC Championship/NFC Championship and getting to the super bowl without them. But I agree, it was a stupid sentiment to begin with.

Eehhh...maybe 1 or 2 if they get reeeeeaally lucky. Maybe. Bench gotta improve leaps and bounds and they gotta hope the rest of the league doesn't catch up while father time does (not likely because we're seeing it already).

the GSW and then revisits the thought of free agency at the end of next season.

He could though, as a result of a wink wink, head somewhere else knowing that the new team is still committed to giving him a yer off with a new max deal under his belt.

Brian Windhorst did say last night that this was an NBA-altering occurrence. I agree!

I think the answer is anyone who has the money and would like to have maybe the most deadly scorer in league history. Let's just, for fun. say...the Knicks. They got 2 max slots and the number 3 pick. RJ Barrett is out here basically doing commercials on how much he wants to be a Knick. So...say they draft RJ, max KD and...Kyrie, Jimmy..etc. Before last night, would you think the Knicks thought if they got two max guys with one being KD and drafted RJ Barrett...they would win the chip? Prolly not. BUT...now you got a great, young player, two max studs, KD in the Garden...even if he can't play, #35 Knicks jerseys flying off the shelves. I think they'd sign up for that in a heartbeat. Just my opinion.

leave the best organization in the NBA for the Knicks? is he really adding to his legacy there? Unless they magically pull in AD to go along with KD and Kyrie they're not getting a ring.

for at least a year and may not be the same when he is finally ready would be a huge gamble when there are going to be players who can immediately help them that will be available. Do they really want to pass up that for the chance that they'll have a prime KD in 2020-21?

They could, but I just don't see it.

hell, the Warriors just showed you they lack patience by playing 2 dudes who had no business on the court.

It’s a luxury to be able to lose a key player and still be a top team in the conference because you have a ton of talent.

24. "Just for reference, the options for KD & The Warriors"
In response to Reply # 0

There are basically three or four choices on the table. The "deadline" would be June 29.

KD can opt in for the second year of his one and one, and get $31 million for next season. He probably sits out the season, possibly comes back at the end of the regular season, right before the play-offs (the Warriors certainly won't rush him). He can then become a free agent at the end of the next season.

KD can ask Lacob for a max extension right now. The Warriors will always have the ability to pay him the most for the most amount of years. He can sign with the Warriors for more than $210 million for five years. The Warriors would essentially be paying him $210 million for four years. If KD asks for this, I don't see a scenario where Lacob turns him down.

KD can opt out on June 29, and become and unrestricted free agent. He could still resign with the Warriors for the max, or sign somewhere else for 4 years, ~$160 million. If he decided he wanted to play elsewhere, it would take a lot of the teams of the table. Clippers, Nets, Boston, and Lakers are all in "win now" mode. The most realistic destination not named the Warriors would be the Knicks.

Or, KD could work out some other new deal with the Warriors, like another 1 and 1 that would begin after next season.

Durant's injury means that they'll likely retain his services at a discount. That's all the leverage they needed to keep him AND Klay.

..good, bad, or whatever you wanna call it.

It is what it is.

I'm not even sure you can blame the Warriors. Sure, Kerr and the medical staff probably could've done more to shut Kev down. But it appears that Durant was just as hell-bent on playing as Cousins (or Looney). If that's true, then the only person really responsible here is KD and he appears to be cool with the decision he made.

What a difference a day makes.

Jalen Rose calls out 'culture of sports' for pushing Kevin Durant to play in Game 5

Chase Kell
Yahoo Canada Sports
June 11, 2019

Everybody seems to have a take on whether or not Kevin Durant should have played in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, with many blaming the Golden State Warriors for forcing their All-Star back into the lineup when he wasn’t completely healthy.

But NBA analyst Jalen Rose has a different take, and its scope is much more broad than just the Warriors franchise alone.

Ever since his decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and sign with the Warriors, Durant has been the NBA’s favourite villain. Born out of that decision was a new narrative that began to paint Durant in a villainous light, and it’s been snowballing ever since.

With his team down 1-3 in the NBA Finals, Durant, as Rose explains in the video below, knew what fans and pundits were going to say about him if he missed Game 5. And in the interest of proving them wrong, KD essentially decided to play on an injured calf that reportedly was nowhere near 100%.

“There’s a heard mentality that takes place when you are a professional athlete, and all of a sudden when you start to make a lot of money, people think you’re immune to everything that comes with being a human being,” Rose said in the video.

“And so, if the Golden State Warriors were up 3-1, KD would not have returned. But since they were down 3-1, he was forced to return based on all of the chatter that we knew was going to take place. ‘He’s soft.’ ‘He really didn’t want it.’ ‘He wasn’t committed to the team.’ Oh, ‘and he was leaving anyway.’ And he (KD) knows that. That’s why he decided he wanted to come back.”

Rose, who used to play for the Toronto Raptors, also had a message for those who were outraged over the handling of Durant’s injury.

“People will bring flowers to your funeral but don’t bring you soup when you’re sick. That’s what I’m seeing for KD right now. Everybody's fake acting like they care about KD's best interest when they don't. It’s phony to me.”

No one comes out unscathed with Rose’s take — not the Warriors, NBA fans or the media. And while it’s tough to directly blame anyone for such a freak injury, it’s fair to assume that Durant can be influenced by the negative narrative that surrounds him.

We have yet to receive confirmation, but Durant’s injury is believed to be a torn Achilles tendon, which would put him on the shelf for approximately 12 months. He has a $31.5 million player’s option for the 2019-2020 season — remember all that talk about KD going to the Knicks? — but after last night’s injury, it’s pretty much a no-brainer for Durant to opt in for one more season in Golden State.

Its interesting how from a few days ago it went from "he might not come back at all" to "KD is starting Game 5!"

Safe to say he'd be least likely to sign to the Lakers. NY and Golden State could probably afford for him to sit the most, but the others are still live dogs IMO

and I found it interesting how he describes his injury compare to what happened to KD.

he said he was told he could have surgery to "clean up the achilles" but it would put him out 9 months. his reaction was to try and play, saying if it ruptures it ruptures, but he was in too much pain.

I wonder if they told KD the same thing
