Tottenham can clinch CL. So can Chelsea with a win and an Arsenal loss. Bayern can clinch the league with some help from Bremen. And a bunch of other shit, I'm sure. SECURE THE BAG.

had Everton not choked the game to Newcastle a few weeks back or lost to relegated Fulham, they'd be sitting pretty for Europa league. Win both of those and we'd be set. Now my Toffees are gonna miss it by one spot after a strong finish to this season.

Damn...

This summer we need a striker that can finish...a real skilled goal scorer, and some depth on defense. PLEASE be aggressive and intelligent this offseason.

All these teams desperately trying to fall out of that top 4. I think regardless of points total, Wolves should get the last spot just for likability.

In spite of everything, all y'all prolly need is a draw at home to secure top 4, I would think.

Watch it end up being United and Chelsea in top 4, with both Arsenal and Spurs missing out.

end to end

Ref missed a penalty for LFC. A few minutes later TAA blocked a goal with his arm but NUFC scored off the rebound so the ref ignored the red card I guess?

BUT....

...you can bet your ass I'm glad this season is a wrap.

I can't stand these players not giving a shit and that's doubly true if they take a lead. I'm super curious to hear how many points we gave away from winning positions this season???

I welcome the turnover. New blood is needed and I do not care where they get it from. I'd rather see some lesser talent be a bunch of try hards than see this bunch again.

Puts a damper on what was otherwise a pretty decent year. All things considered with a new manager installing a new system and philosophy while evaluating players and losing 1/2 its backline to season ending injuries, the team still has more points than last and is in contention for the Europa league final.

This summer window is critical

Wenger left the team with weaknesses in the worst spots - right up the spine - without any organization defensively. It takes time to implement and change those attitudes and habits, especially when the personnel doesn't match and you have serious injuries.

LFC miss out on a draw vs City by literally an inch.

Sergio Aguero scores by about two inches last week.

And this week Kompany literally hits the shot of his life.

City deserve it.

Let's win it next year.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/liverpool-fc-barcelona-champions-league-2019-divock-origi-goal-ball-boy-ucl-video-a8904461.html

Liverpool’s match analysts had noticed last week in the Camp Nou how Barcelona’s players moaned and became distracted whenever a free-kick or a throw-in was awarded against them, even if the decision was blatantly the correct one. This made Jurgen Klopp recognise the possibilities. And so, he filtered a message through the club. It proves that he certainly had not given up – that Liverpool’s recovery was not purely borne out of adrenaline and special oils. His belief was not blind. It translated into plans and schemes.

Carl Lancaster is a coaching mentor at the club’s academy in Kirkby and amongst his responsibilities is the co-ordination of ball boys. He had told them to serve Liverpool’s players as swiftly as possible on Tuesday morning. Oakley Cannonier did not forget and with eleven minutes to go, he fed Alexander-Arnold while Barcelona’s defence fidgeted amongst themselves 20-yards away. It seemed astonishing they were blissfully unaware of what might happen considering Liverpool had already shown their bulldozing intent.

Cannonier is a 14-year-old originally from Leeds who sometimes trains with two age groups above his natural level. Whatever happens in his career or life from here, he will remember his role in arguably the most remarkable victory in Liverpool’s entire history, where Klopp’s team proved their capacity to reduce the immortal to inconsolable wrecks and men of granite to goo.

But it's frequently not the world's best soccer.

It's to be expected when you have guys playing together a handful of times a year, versus a club team where they play together basically daily sometimes for years on end.

CL is where its at.

(or a good Domestic race)

but should show up.

messi had an off game. alba had the worst game i think i've ever seen him have. busquet's lack of pace was glaring in a way it usually isn't. the only starter who shouldn't feel like shit is Vidal. and he deserved better from his teammates

I've been a defender of Valverde. This, however, fit the pattern too much. a 4-4-2 doesn't make sense. It gave Liverpool so many chances to control the tempo and the game. Roberto over Semedo didn't make sense--Roberto lacks the pace to keep up with Liverpool. Mane made him invisible multiple times. And in a 4-4-2, you don't need a RB who can convert into a MF like that. If you wanted Roberto on the pitch, play him in the midfield. that would have been fine.

But fine, if you want a fucking 4-4-2, then you have to play Arthur. He's the one midfielder who could, via his passing and position, calm the game down and help busquets. Rakitic was nowhere to be found to help busquets and Vidal was running around out of position trying to destroy (like he should). Coutinho's not a midfielder.

Even if barca had survived, Valverde's tactics are scared. They're not barcelona. They waste Messi and they aren't the barca way at all. at least with Pep and Luis Enrique, they played a barca style (and Luis Enrique was a little away from that). Where were the triangles? The high press? Luis Suarez was furious at Coutinho multiple times for not pressing.

jesus fucking christ. thank god abidal is a great sporting director and I love the new players they've got or signed or are rumored to sign. The ONLY way I can handle anotehr year of Valverde's tactics is if it's because Xavi needs a year to get his manager's license before he takes over. But I'd rather try to sign Erik Ten Hag now and let Xavi learn at the youth level (he also, i think, said that's where he wants to work).

He's good in cover, but when he's involved in the attack, it's usually really bad. In space, he can make a long pass, as he showed yesterday. But when he's up near the box and needs to make a short pass or take a damn shot, he fucks it up almost every time. If he's playing in place of Busquets fine. But when he's in a more attacking role, it doesn't work.

The tactics yesterday were fucking horrible. Everyone knew going into the game they were going to press us. And we don't start Arthur?! Last week against Pool things got much better for us once Semedo came on, yet this week we start Roberto at RB... again. Somehow Coutinho starts despite offering nothing in the first leg. And Jordi Alba. Wow. What a fucking game. We need an alternative LB immediately. Busquets' lack of mobility bites us in the ass for the second year in a fucking row (Can't wait for DeJong to bench him). Liverpool came in with the exact same gameplan Roma used last year and the team/coach reacts in exact the same way.

Semedo should have started.
Arthur should have started.
Coutinho should have been on the bench.
Alba should've been yanked at halftime.

for the reasons you gave--he should be playing like Seydou Keita back in the day. Yesterday, at least he was giving a fuck in midfield. I can't say that about busi (looked off), rakitic (was he even playing?) coutinho (jesus fucking christ).

>(Can't wait for DeJong to bench him). Liverpool came in with
>the exact same gameplan Roma used last year and the team/coach
>reacts in exact the same way.

YUPPPPPPPPPP on both points.

>Semedo should have started.
>Arthur should have started.
>Coutinho should have been on the bench.
>Alba should've been yanked at halftime.

YUPPPPPPPPPP.

shoulda been a 4-3-3 with malcom in for coutinho and arthur/busi/rak (or roberto)

valverde has to go. bringing in de jong and giving alena legit time to become the go to CAM would really help the midfield. by the end of next season, the gala XI midfield should be De Jong/Arthur/Alena. Shit, they should start as the gala XI considering what we've seen this second half of the season. with messi/dembele/suarez (and someone signed to replace suarez long-term and to spell him) and De Ligt for CB depth.

I'd also move Roberto primarily to the midfield rotation and bring Wague up and make Semedo the starter.

The question is the backup LB and the backup striker. Or maybe move Umtiti to LB a bunch to resolve the CB logjam? Abidal was never a very attacking LB, Umtiti could provide that same style if needed (but such a waste. he was a rock at CB when healthy).
