his podcast where he has a guest on each week is outstanding...or when he's alone...riffing. He's extremely smart and can generate content, pretty much with no help.

Wilbon have become caricatures of themselves. I feel like ESPN is forever trying to recapture that early magic with the never-ending stream of copycat shows.

I actually enjoy most of the Sportscenter broadcasts and most of the NBA, NFL, MLB shows and most shows where they have actual athletes talking.
Its just the shows where they have these nobody sports reporters who didn't play junior high badminton acting like they're some sort of expert and yelling like a drunk guy in a bar.

They're not trying to do the "fake animosity I can out yell hot take you" thing. Plus, they're friends...they could be having these discussions at a Buffalo Wild Wings. High Noon, PTI, ATH, Highly Questionable are all shows I enjoy.

they don’t take themselves to seriously and have fun...but can be very serious when needed. Plus, he started small and local and that Miami are has his back and he has there’s. At his core, Dan is a journalist who started small and paid dues. He wasn’t just handed the keys to the machine we see now.

EXACTLY most of the talking head shows are more like drunk guys at the bar.
I have far more in depth sports conversations at the local Hooters with my friends who are mostly former college athletes than anything I hear from those loudmouth reporters.

sort of playing the QB of the show. Bring on "experts" of the specific sport and chime in when needed. He's smart, quick on his feet, has a good knowledge of sports history. Obviously not for everyone. I'd take a lifetime of Get Up over one episode of First Take, lol.

I worry that most shows have become the hot take express. That and bad and biased barbershop arguing with makeup and music. And they usually try to throw in some really good looking lady to keep it visually blessed. Joy Taylor forever btw.
The stuff I like the most now is where someone who WATCHES THE GAMES/FILM comes in and says stuff like 'Baker Mayfield catches hell when defenses make him play fast. The NFL has a bunch of teams that make you play fast soooooo, he's kinda screwed'. Then they show MULTIPLE plays where what they're saying is true. I can get with that even though I know this can be manipulated too. But I prefer that to shouting with a team feeding the shouters stats to use to 'support' the shouting.

That might be it. And now man, we have a cesspool of folks with shows, blogs, and podcasts who will write hella words and/or do hella talking about games they haven't even watched. It is wild. I thought that folks would always hold these folks accountable to hush up about stuff they aren't watching, but NOPE..not at all.

That has always been ESPN’s Schtick, going back to the days of Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann, as well as Kenny Mayne. However, it is way overboard where the sportscasters satirically bash each other. They didn’t do that during the golden years of ESPN.
They used to give funny references here and there while covering a highlight reel, or while reporting sporting news. But that was about it.
In most sports shows, the reporters are just mocking each other while providing some insight on sports
