"Weekend Soccer 12.15-16: Pooltergeist"

It's no big secret that these last few years have seen Liverpool rise up on historical rivals Man U, at least as far as league rankings are concerned. But the head to head record has been a different story, with the Reds failing to win in their last 8 league confrontations (3D, 5L). United seemed to have righted the ship last weekend, but the defeat to Valencia, while of limited impact, showed there is still a lot of wobbliness on the ship and will surely result in backward-thinking tactics on Sunday. Several Red Devil players will have a late fitness test, which could have a big impact on the lineup.
The early game tomorrow sees City host an Everton side that has quality in spades but has showed in its last two games why it is struggling to break above its usual 6-7 spot. Arsenal travel to 19th place Southampton, who haven't won in the league since September 1.

EPL
15.12.18 07:30 Manchester City - Everton
15.12.18 10:00 Crystal Palace - Leicester
15.12.18 10:00 Huddersfield - Newcastle
15.12.18 10:00 Tottenham - Burnley
15.12.18 10:00 Watford - Cardiff
15.12.18 10:00 Wolves - Bournemouth
15.12.18 12:30 Fulham - West Ham
16.12.18 08:30 Brighton - Chelsea
16.12.18 08:30 Southampton - Arsenal
16.12.18 11:00 Liverpool - Manchester United

For the record, my teams:
MLB: Mets / Soccer: PSG
NCAA BB: Arizona / NCAA FB: Michigan
NBA: Spurs / NFL: Jets

but the familiarity that you speak of isn't exactly relevant this year. witsel, sancho, hakimi, alcácer, a healthy reus, a non-washed götze and a proper manger have them looking completely different.

clearly the best team in Germany at the moment and definitely one of the hottest teams in all of Europe.

Of course they’re great. They won a group and are leading the league, but its pick your poison time. I’ll gladly take my chances with the side that’s had a few good months over Bayern, Real, PSG, and any other big money club you’d care to name.

For convoluted reasons, I follow Sunderland pretty closely. So I knew most of it already. But watching it actually unfold and collapse behind the scenes is some damn interesting TV.

I knew nothing of Sunderland or even the tiers of English soccer past the Premier League, but as a fan of a once-proud team that has fallen into the abyss, it all resonated with me. that cloud of misery over everything, the few rays of hope, the Murphy's Law of it all where bad teams have bad things happen to them, the self-abuse as a fan where you are so invested you can't turn your back but so beat down that every weekend is just a mandated few hours of torture you set your alarm to.

all of this magnified by the insane amount of candid access, as mentioned.

Manchester United has announced that Jose Mourinho has left the Club.

We would like to thank him for his work during his time at Manchester United and wish him success in the future.

and really, no reason to keep him til the end of the season. i mean, for what...so he could alienate players even further and do dumb shit like not putting Pogs or Martial on the pitch vs. the league leaders?

i WANT to like dude, but i don't really get what he's trying and think he's just kinda lost when it comes to coaching in 2018.

Well not really good, it's a huge hill to climb but with Jose there was zero chance they were climbing up for to 4. Now, a super tiny sliver.

If not good then hilarious to just an absolute POS

I can see them selling both United and the Bucs within the next 18 months. They are sitting on highly valued assets that their mismanagement is depreciating the value of. Before the next recession, they need to cash in quick. Sadly, that means United will likely become another mideastern money laundering operation, but it has to happen.

I was laughing at that.

Ole understands the simple idea of starting your best players and then bringing your "scrubs" on when the game is in hand.

Jose did the opposite half the time.

Jose stuck his neck out for him so much the first two seasons. Made him captain going into the 3rd.and he repaid him with dust, negativity in the media, admittedly half hearted efforts and poor performances because he wanted to get his way.

We'll he got it so he owes the fans nothing less than the spectacular from here on.

He could pull that off with Jose because our fans were 50/50 about him to begin with. I trust he will not do that with OGS because that is not a battle he will win.

is that for all the depth they have, they don't really have anything that can fill Sergio Aguero's shoes.

So with KDB out, and Aguero inconsistent or missing time, their attack is much weaker than it should be.

I have no idea what their excuse today is though.

that said, we don't have the bench to compete with injuries AND the table, though, we've done alright so far.

Spurs scoring by the truckload.

Everton getting their Spurs on.

Title (probably) to Liverpool.

Fulham can't catch a break.

Good action.

kind of a dick move by him to score goals for his new manager but couldn't be bothered to score goals while sitting in the stands for his old manager.

Shows where the blame is. 100% with the player.

You can't tell me AMN wouldn't give us infinitely more on both ends.

Playing lit as a cb in a back there is one thing. But his FB career is officially over.

oh well. OGS might end up getting the official job if the players keep their attitudes up. especially Pogba. nice to see those misplaced passes and temper tantrums go away. jury's still out until we play vs Spurs though. that's the first judgment day.

Basic basic defensive mistakes and defending. Piss poor at the back but that's been in line with the past few weeks. The Holding (and then Bellerin) injury really hurt any semblance of continuity and consistency we had

Fantastic performance from City. Impressive.

Far from Liverpool’s best effort. Missed passed. Missed shots.

Absolutely cut to ribbons on Sane’s goal.
