Our bullpen is better and has more options than a couple years ago.
And Kenley has not been nearly as good as he was a couple years ago.
I was typically all in on Kenley for 2 back then. Sometimes he was all we had.
He’s still very good, but I can’t say I was shocked they tied it off him. Jansen couldn’t close out game 2 last year when trying to go 2. We would’ve been up 2-0 and probably won the series. Jansen for 2 hasn’t been some infallible strategy.

He actually pitched quite well last night, one mistake and Bradley caught it. I have no issue with the strategy esp when he hasn’t pitched in 3 days. The major mistake this series was Wood against Nunez in game 1.

I just don’t have a lot of faith in Wood at this point. He got it done last night though.
Maeda was incredible after a shaky start. Made great defensive play to get the lead runner at 3rd on the bunt, and then just struck everyone he faced out after that.
Wasn't even too mad at taking Hill out, but putting in Madson with 2 on when he's not comfortable with men on base and had allowed all inherited baserunners to score this series so far? Then bringing in Jansen in the 8th one day after the exact same move failed spectacularly? Wtf.

Like they got their little numbers for every scenario and you’ve gotta stick to the script to a fault. It is what it is. I can’t fully blame Roberts when it doesn’t work when he’s following the plan that’s laid out.

The same thing happened during the Brewers series where they were just counting on home runs, then they shortened their swings and starting extending innings and pushing pitchers.

Back in the 70s and 80s Earl Weaver was an outlier when his philosophy was "live and die" by the three-run homer.
Now this is life. Everything is about launch angles and playing long ball. This evolution has been met with starters only going four innings and bringing in pitcher-after-pitcher that throws 95+.
It's made the games longer and boring. You can go innings now without seeing a ball put into play.

Late in the year his fastball was 91/92. I think Smoltz pointed out correctly last evening that Kershaw's fastball doesn't have much movement so if his curveball isn't working, he is going to struggle.
If he doesn't get his arm issues fixed this is who he will be going forward and I think Buehler goes into next season as their #1.
