and I know we've agreed upon this, but Browning's ineptitude is probably one of the most overlooked storylines of the last three years in CFB.
the book on him nationally is that "he may not be physically gifted with a rocket arm or mobility, but he's a perfect game manager and winner"...a la Kellen Moore at Boise State.
the funny/sad part is, he is NOT a good game manager. at all. he makes some of the dumbest mistakes and forced throws -- especially for a third-year starting senior -- that you'll ever see. he plays hero ball and puts his team in horrible spots. he runs out of clean pockets based on invisible pressure. he misses wide-open throws all the time. if he passes for 3 touchdowns he probably missed another 2. he's had excellent receivers and a defense to bail him out time and time again.
Washington would have been in the playoff last year if not for his shambolic game against Arizona State's 109th ranked defense.
he had another pick that was worse than that, and two more that should have been awful picks were it not for ND DBs having butterfingers. one of those was a throw in triple coverage where had he moved his eyes two degrees more to the left he'd have seen his TE running free down the sideline w/ the closest player 20 yards away.
i agree with everything you said. it's all bullshit. he never had a cannon by any means, but his shoulder injuries have left him with a noodle arm.
the reason why Haener looked so good and was 7/7 for 110 yards and TD was simply because he has enough arm strength to get the ball out on time.
my homie is the stadium emcee who is basically tasked w/ doing fan interaction and hyping up the crowd and he tells me all the time he'll pass Browning on the sideline when Browning make mistakes and he just looks clueless and while i wanna say that's some gossipy ass analysis, i have no doubt he is clueless cuz he's doing clueless shit out there.
