The second the season starts, I will not remember Jose Calderon is still in the league. But right now, I am all about learning the details of his contract.

other than the people selling bron jerseys, they must hate seeing all this energy and no revenue stream for it. even tickets must look flat to bleak in most markets after this -- just california teams with even more reason to inflate, maybe okc feeling like they escaped disaster.

i assume the networks/sites get more views but i'd love to see the numbers on that, and how far into july they can milk it with thought pieces.

Besides I thought that that's what you were implying in your previous reply.

In any event....lebron big 3 model aint' about guaranteed chips anyway. It was about 3 stars in their prime playing together. they still had to handle their business to chip. And that's what the Warriors are doing. Except they are doing muuuuuuuuuuuch better than lebron ever did.

... But he has to sign at this point or he loses face. He's putting pressure on Magic to get deals done to bolster the roster within 72 hours before he signs or he might change his mind signing with Philly. They offered the same deal and it is an easier route to the finals in the east.

Bron has to reach the conference finals or NBA finals in his first year for his legacy. Otherwise he looks bad leaving a guaranteed conference finals possible NBA finals contender to lose in the west.

He signs with the Lakers barring a change of mind.

People are floating rumors that he won't sign unless the Lakers bring in someone else. This rumor has to be false but can't be proven wrong until he actually signs on Friday/Saturday. It's probably BS but DeAndre Jordan did the same thing.

Either way the cloaks are out and we can't be stopped.

(1) The Lakers are about to pull some Magic (pun intended) out of their sleeves via a blockbuster so that all these peculiar moves make sense

(2) They are signing all these expiring contracts to compete this year and use it as a glue-year for all the young guys w/ LeBron - and are waiting until 2019 to land Kawhi (and perhaps AD via trade) - to set their sights on 2020-2022. If that's the case, Bron takes a well-deserved "year-off" and preserves himself.

The wild-card is that Bron simply signed w/ the Lakers for off-the-court reasons and not for basketball reasons: his family, business ventures, lifestyle - and just wants to ride off into the sunset w/ no cares.

Joel Embiid was talked about via his IG account. His thinking is come to Philly since Bron hasn't signed yet. Agreeing and signing are two different things (c) DeAndre Jordan.

Option 1 seems more likely as the Warriors cannot pay Klay and Dray max contracts. They probably keep Dray and Klay goes to the Lakers. Kwahi probably comes next season at the latest.

Klay + Bron + Kwahi + Zo + Insert player should be enough to get us to a chip. This season is Golden State's last guaranteed title.

but it sounds too good to be true. Klay has insisted that he loves living in the Bay and playing for the Warriors. I don't see him wanting to leave - but of course - money does talk a lot.

Lakers can't just get Kawhi and nothing else. They need 3 legitimate superstars to compete w/ this NBA.

Like, don't make excuses for doing hoe shit. It's easier, just do say that. Anyone believing no offers more than 1 year 5 million is just dumb.

These NBA analysts letting themselves be used like that are basura.

Why would Draymond, etc have to recruit him?

If it is true, other teams fucked up.

Either way, people should be consistent,

Heat signing Ray Allen was wack.

Warriors signing Boogie is wack.

I wonder where the line is for some people?

Had the Warriors signed Bron, would that be
“always improving”?

There is literally no comparison to the last few years of this Warriors shit. Durant going there in a once in a lifetime cap spike/Curry underpaid/losing in the Finals up 3-1.....and that opened the door for supreme hoe-dom on a level we have never seen.

Boogie was in a situation where I personally don't blame him honestly. There's no better situation to rehab in and take less money for a year. But make no mistake that its like nothing we have ever seen.

You can't compare Ray Allen going to the Heat to this shit. That nigga was 37 years old man. Were talking about a 27 year old Durant at the time he signed and a 27 year old Boogie now. That's entering their prime years. To keep getting players of that caliber at that age and not have to lose a damn thing is completely unheard of.

What kind of deal would he get anywhere that was for multiple years? When you know what personality you'll get but you don't know what body/running/leaping? I agree with you-- there was a lot of "if there's smoke, there's fire" around his behavior. And he's usually good enough to deal with it... but if he's potentially not healthy/in shape all year, as well could be the case?

Combine that with the fact that GMs probably assumed he'd want a lot/a longer deal, and yeah, I'm not really shocked that no one was really kicking the tires. They probably wanted to wait and see what the market was looking like first.

Boogie just beat them to the punch in order to put himself in a situation where (a) a team wouldn't ask much from him, so he could recover slowly and (b) he can prove to be a team player on a title winner to answer some of the questions about him being "difficult." It was a great move by him.

What's the record for most number of teams played for by any ROY? Upon looking it up, I see Mike Miller* and Vince Carter both played for 7 total franchises (and counting for Vince.)

* he also had two different stints with Memphis

I honestly think this is his last season (barring some kind of big playoff run) because he's the easiest to get rid of and has alienated everyone who didn't play for him in Chicago. The goal was to get the team back into the mix, that's been accomplished, he can go now.

>Cavs could still be competitive if they don't clean house

this is not necessary. and also, Ty Lue gonna still be coach so...

that being said

it's Boston, then Philly, then who ever ends up being better between Milwaukee and Indy

I really think Indiana is a good basketball team, and they should have won against the Cavs. they kept on ticking after NyQuil left

I'm expecting a little less than Aaron Gordon type dollars and years. And Zach showed flashes to justify the contract coming off the ACL in an otherwise throwaway year. Hard to look great when your organization is actively trying to lose.

This East is historically bad and the Bulls could be relevant again in like two years (in the East). Pretty sure we have a max slot open for 2019 as well, even if Zach is signed at like 18 mil per.

AD coming home is not out of the question if we have a respectable core in place.

Cuz ain’t a free agent worth a shit going to Phoenix. They’re still making up for Kendall Marshall/Alex Len/Tyler Ennis, and they’re still praying and hoping for Chriss and Bender. Booker is the *only* guy they’ve drafted who is proven to be good. Gotta max your borderline All-Star if you’re a shithole rebuild team, then hope two of Chriss/Bender/Jackson/Ayton can be All-Stars they can keep around too.

I honestly have no beef with what they’re doing, tanking is the right call, they just *really* need some results from any of these first rounders outside of Booker. (Jackson showed promise, admittedly.)

He attempted 75% of his shots at the rim, which made him more efficient this year, because he simply stopped trying to score on offense outside of dunks or putbacks. He is a good rebounder, and doesn't turn the ball over, really, so he's excellent for Survivor... but in real life, he's not a guy you can count on for anything other than rebounds. It's why his minutes were pretty low (also good for Survivor). And he's also a goddamn dinosaur stylistically in today's game.

I guess to his credit (or to the Suns' holy-shit badness), he was second in total win shares per 48 and in VORP. So... that's something.

But yeah, he's bad. I thought he'd be good coming out of college. But he's doing the same 9/7.5 that he's done the last two seasons in a row. At least he's now embracing that the only way he'll stay on a floor is focusing what he does best-- dunks and boards-- and trying basically nothing else.

He's worse on offense and he's, remarkably, worse on defense. If he's gonna be on a winning team, it'll be as a bench sparkplug guy.

people are acting like the redick/chandler moves and this one are precluding something. we got chandler plus two picks for literally nothing and since we acquired him with space he can be included in any deal. plus all one year deals so next summer we can be a player again if all else fails. put it this way, i like what BB has done a lot more than what burna bryan was doing.

I'm gonna go with Toronto, Brooklyn, Dallas or Washington

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Several reports out here have indicated he wanted to be traded to Los Angeles and clarified that either the Lakers or Clippers would be acceptable. Of course his say is limited either way, though obviously the potential or lack thereof for an extension would mean a lot to the Spurs' return.

IT is an unfortunate story - and he could get back to his old form, or at least mostly. His character has never REALLY been in question.

But Kawhi? The stoic, unrattled, professional? Yeah that shit's a wrap.

what does san antonio want with a 15-20-minute per night guy in decline when they are heading into a rebuild? love T5T but he is definitely in the twilight stages now at 36. i think he'd be a good mentor for a young point guard but hard for a very competitive to justify $5M on him.

He wants to start so he needs to go somewhere that will accommodate him like Sacremento, BK, or maybe the Heat. If he was willing to come off the bench Houston would work.

Bron hurry up and sign the contract.

This one hurt. Moves back out of Brooklyn and to a team in pergutory. I know he’s been hurt but he had worked hard to get back this season and is a big part of the Nets locker room culture.

I was hoping the hawks would release him— but with Schroeder out— looks like they’re gonna keep him.

Being on a bad team lets him showcase himself if he can stay healthy. Being a pending UFA means decent chance he can go to a good team as a rental at the deadline. Then UFA market where he can work his way to a good team on the cheap if that is what he wants. In the end the dude has had a fabulous career and earned a ton of money relative to expectations. I would like to see him get out of this loop of hopeless franchises though

i'm reading a 2 yr offer w/ non-guaranteed '19-'20 to maintain flexibility next summer. bucks are inching towards the hard cap so they may not be able to match.

makes some sense. he's not really a 3 tho.

chicago's putting together one of the league's more intriguing collections of 24-and-unders (lauri, dunn, WCJ, hutchison, lavine, denzel, portis, jabari?)

if they can land a big fish next summer, they could be in business.

Lots of soon-to-be free agents turn down extensions only to cash in with the same team the following summer.

in the same breath they'll have you believe he and thibs have a strong relationship but that he won't stay unless thibs is fired.

basically it's minnesota and off the radar so they can use a prominent player to drive some speculation and generate click bait.

i suspect butler's problem is with some of the other stars on the team. his turning down an extension or liking a tweet isn't a particularly strong indication of anything.

of course i type this and probably tomorrow minnesota, san antonio and toronto will make some blockbuster three-way deal

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

He turned down the Bulls initial offer, bet on himself, won Most Improved and signed a bigger extension the next year.

The max he can be offered by the Wolves this year is 4/$110.
Next summer on the open market he can get a max offer of 4/$140 or 5/$188 from the Wolves. Last time he turned down a contract for the potential of a bigger one, it worked in his favor. Why not try it again? He's not passing up at least $30 million guaranteed.

He might leave next summer, he might not. I think that's going to depend on what happens with Thibs. If he's fired (which will hopefully happen,) Jimmy's probably gone (which will suck.) But the offer and Jimmy's rejection this week were both a formality.

the complexities of NBA salary cap management, and team building from the perspective of the front office tasked with being a competitive team as well as a profitable one are often hard to navigate. it's a very good understanding of Chicago's decision making in this piece.

I especially like how... after ALL of the talk about why the team did it, but to focus on why Jabari made the move was also cool.

woven between each passage is the realities of running a "non-establishment" team, which if you grew up knowing the Bulls as "that team" off the strength of Cheese Eyes, seems crazy. but for those who remain or became Bulls fans has been life for a long time.

it really does help when someone wants to play for a team whose popularity is not exactly at the top of the list. I always go back to Joel Embiid who seemed hype of possibly being a Lakers pick in the beginning, got drafted by the Proccessing 76ers instead, had to tone it down a bit, and now IS "The Process".

it's part of the reason I'm looking forward to seeing the Cavs next season. even the current iteration of the Bulls under Hoiberg seems much more interesting with LaVine and Carter. and also, wondering how teams like Detroit will turn out. under Van Gundy they seemed to be gathering their footing before the LeBron Steamroller came through, and a series of front office moves seemed... weird as best. I'm not gonna be used to Kuwabara being a Piston.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

And I'm agreeing.

BUT.

SupercoolBeas is coming off a year where he averaged 13 points (his most since his sophmore year) on +50% shooting and 5.6 boards in 22 minutes. The Lakers need scoring, and he doesn't hurt - especially on a short term, low risk deal. Plus - they've got a lot of players who can play multiple positions.

A few things will happen:

-there will be some growing pains
-52 wins, minimum
-2nd round playoff appearance, minimum
-4 guys will shoot a minimum 38% from 3
-We'll be a top 10 defensive team while remaining top 5 in pace.

-BI, Kuz and Hart will look good enough that trading them for anyone seems like a bad idea.

The Headcase Brigade of Javalle, Born Ready, Rondo, and Beas are going to function well on this team.

All of the above will happen, pleas wi be copped, goal posts will be moved, and haters will be mad.

This will be upped, but by a Lakers fan, not the haters.

the contract isn't so bad that I think it'll be "bag of dildos" down the line.

I'm really curious to see what his role will be outside of LeSystem. The skills of Cedi and Zizic plus the addition of Sexton really makes me wonder how they come together.

Former Duke Star Okafor May Be Forced To Play Overseas This Year
ByJOHN WATSON Jul 22, 2:37 PM

The end of the 2015 college basketball season saw Duke big man Jahlil Okafor on top of the world after the 6-foot-10 big man capped off his only season in Durham by winning a national championship. During his 38 games as a Blue Devil, Okafor averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while taking home both ACC Rookie and Player of the Year honors.

Following Duke’s run to the program’s fifth national title, Okafor was drafted third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. And now, just three years removed from that string of successes, the former Blue Devil may no longer have a role to play in the NBA.

After a promising rookie year for the Sixers, Okafor was relegated to the end of the Philadelphia bench last season before finally being traded to Brooklyn. The long period of inactivity showed when Okafor finally got on the floor for the Nets as he averaged just six points and three rebounds in 12 minutes of action per game.

Once the season concluded Okafor was allowed to become a free agent, but there’s been little interest in the former No. 3 pick. So much so that he may be forced to play overseas to begin the 2018-2019 season.

There have been a number of reported workouts recently including those for the Chicago Bulls (who just drafted Duke’s Wendell Carter and signed Jabari Parker) and the Indiana Pacers, but neither team appears anxious to sign Okafor.

Many of the knocks on the former Blue Devil star focus on his lack of either effort or ability on the defensive end of the court. Throw in the fact that the NBA game is trending away from traditional back to the basket centers, and the limited market value starts to become understandable. And yet, Okafor is still just 22 years old and has shown the ability to be an effective NBA player after averaging 17 points per game as a rookie.

But, the phones do not appear to be ringing with interested teams which means he could be heading to…China.

According to Chinese reporter Zhang Duo (via Sportando) (https://sportando.basketball/en/asia/china/282835/jahlil-okafor-reportedly-pursued-by-several-chinese-teams.html), several Chinese teams have expressed interest in Okafor recently.

Certainly Okafor will hope that another NBA team will have an open roster spot and the corresponding need for another big man prior to the season tipping off this fall, but for the moment it seems that such a scenario is unlikely. Some of the big man's failures can certainly be traced to his game's various deficiencies, but there's also plenty of circumstance which contributed to his career path. When drafted by the Sixers in 2015, Okafor joined a front court rotation that included Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel as well as Dario Saric. Ultimately both Noel and Okafor were traded away with neither finding much success at their subsequent stops.

That's team number EIGHT, props to him for playing this long. I honestly wasn't sure he was going to make it 07 or so the way he kept getting hurt for a while in Toronto and Jersey.
