That door. And a couple others.

Otherwise, it’s going to be a looooong stretch.

Everyone was itching for them to blow it up...
word?

Like I get they never saw the conference finals,
but not sure years in the lottery is worth the
potential that you climb that hill higher this time.

Especially since history says they probably won’t.

I mean, the clippers were actually respectable.

Probably should have enjoyed that while it lasted.

All the folks who yelled blow it up... now what?

You guys got your own problem and what they are doing is essentially a carbon copy of the Lakers' "sell it off and bank on UFAs/a super team." This was not a bad trade.

It's a net cap space gain this year and significant cap space gain after next year. In the meantime, they might get some assets back for Boban and Tobias next year as well.

Both will be expiring which make them attractive...and they continue to gain more assets as they rebuild.

They pick up two picks here and will get junk contracts and picks for those guys.

The idea here is to tear down for a super team, I think. DJ and Lou Williams will get moved also.

Assuming LA can resign Bradley. I really like Tobias, and he's three years younger than Blake, so him, Bradley, and two picks, one a first rounder, for Blake... is a pretty good haul tbh. Likely the first of multiple moves, all of which will likely look to include picks and/or young talent. Not sure what they could get for DJ considering he's expiring IIRC, but at this point, cut your losses, tank hard, aim for a Top 5/6 pick, and see where you are in terms of young talent next season. Depending on what they think of AB and Tobias, either resign or pocket the money to go after the next big free agent.

Pistons moved a guy they wanted out and a guy who might not've resigned after next season for Blake Griffin who still has a couple good years left to play alongside Drummond with Reggie Jackson running point. Considering the Pistons have Kennard, Johnson, and Ellenson to continue to develop/fill in additional minutes, that's a decent core in the East imo. Still not an ECF team... but maybe if they can ditch Galloway and/or Leuer they can have the money to pursue one more FA?

you brought up the record like it was a trump card, yet were too silly to think about the fact that Bradley is -7.7 per game over that stretch, while Kennard is +2.5 OR that Tobias is -6.9 and Stanley is +2.0 (he only played 6 of those games because of an injury)

Stanley, 3 games since the trade: 18/7/3

Rwggie Bullock, 3 games since the trade: 15/3/1 on 53/54 shooting

3 wins, including Stanley bossing up on Bron in a win without Blake. SIX double digit scorers in each game.

I made it my New Year's Resolution not to engage people, here or on Twitter, that I know aren't engaging in earnest. I'm doing decently so far. Some people won't ever stop fighting or deflecting or making statements without watching games. So those people aren't really worth the time it takes to engage with them, imo. I've wasted enough of my life trying to force Ls into the hands of those who simply refuse to acknowledge reality.

Anyhow. Just thought I'd share. No particular reason.

lol no. not even close.

blake cant be his own teammate. i specifically left out all players involved in the trade, because ik comparing the groups of leftovers.

>Gallo > Stanley

uh, based on what? Gallo is shooting 34/24, and isnt half the defender Stanley is, so?

>Bradley > Whatever the Pistons got (Kennard?)

Blake wasnt teammates with Bradley before, still isnt. the name you are looking for here is Tyrone Wallace or Milos Teodosic or Wesley Johnson. again, im comparing holdovers.

>Austin & Reggie are a wash

haha youre still salty about that? healthy Reggie is so much better than Austin Rivers that other ppl who may not realize you have a vendetta will be really confused about that statement. even Ba thinks thats ludicrous.

>Lou Will > Pistons 6th man

i agreed. but the fact is

Drummond > DJ
Stanley > Gallinari
Kennard > Johnson/Wallace/Teodosic

Not even close huh?

14.7 pts 15.1 rebs 1.4 blks 54% FG 23.7 PER

vs

11.9 pts 14.8 rebs 1.0 blk 67% FG 19.8 PER

The difference is pretty negligible.

>>Blake > Tobias
>
>blake cant be his own teammate. i specifically left out all

Like I said before, I'm comparing the teams post trade.

>>Gallo > Stanley

Gallo is injured. Been injured all year. I'm gonna assume he's not injured for the rest of his life and plays to his average. Hence, he's a lot better than Stanley Johnson as any starting small forward in the NBA is also better than Stanley Johnson.

>>Bradley > Whatever the Pistons got (Kennard?)
>
>Blake wasnt teammates with Bradley before, still isnt. the

Salty about what? I told you Reggie wasn't that good. And surprise... surprise. He isn't. Why do you think the Pistons can't find a trade partner to take him?

You say "vendetta" like he's good... Lmao.

So let's go....

14.6 ppg, 5.5 apg, 45% fg, 16.6 PER

15.8 ppg, 3.8 apg, 42% fg, 13.1 PER

That's a wash.

if youre gonna list stats list em all
Drummond 3.8 apg 1.5 spg, 7.0 BPM, 3.5 VORP
Jordan 1.5 apg 0.5 spg, 1.7 BPM, 1.3 VORP

so thats more points, more rebounds, significantly more assists, significantly more blocks and steals, significant margin in +/-.

thats not a negligible difference.

>Like I said before, I'm comparing the teams post trade.

thats quite an assumption for a 30 year old with an ACL reconstruction in his past and a lower extremity muscle tear. ill take the defense i can count on every night

>Salty about what? I told you Reggie wasn't that good. And
>surprise... surprise. He isn't. Why do you think the Pistons
>can't find a trade partner to take him?

because injuries. obviously. also funny how Danilo Gallinari is coming back to "play to his averages" yet you ignore that in Reggie's first 108 games with the Pistons he did 18/7/4. interesting lol.

>14.6 ppg, 5.5 apg, 45% fg, 16.6 PER
>
>15.8 ppg, 3.8 apg, 42% fg, 13.1 PER

LOL thats a >25% jump. That is statistically significant, and not a "wash". Austin is almost 2 points below average and Reggie is almost 2 points above. cmon.

At this point of his career, LeBron is going putting himself in the best position to win as many championships as possible. I don't see him going out West to a roster than may literally just have Patrick Beverly and try to win with that. If he leaves Cleveland, he's going someplace that's "one player away," not 10.

... aren't there a fairly high number of stars that are technically free agents this year?

I agree that it almost certainly wouldn't happen, but I suspect if I'm a Clipper exec who think James may even be *remotely* interested, that would be the pitch: "we'll have the money for a new Big 3, let's find the two stars you'll win your next title with."

Even if there are two other big name free agents out there that the Clippers could sign, building a whole roster around those three and Beverley and then expecting them to compete for a championship that very season is TALL order. Especially out West.

The Heat had the benefit of being in the East. Even the originally "big 3" on the Celtics were in the East, and they didn't completely rebuild that roster.

I doubt LeBron wants to gamble even a season of his career on "taking time to work the kinks out." If he leaves, it's gotta be for, "We can win right NOW."

...than the Clippers.

Or Houston (people can take pay-cuts, but it **could** happen).

And there's teams in the East that could make it work.

Personally, I don't think he's leaving Cleveland. But I'd guess if he doesn't win it all this year, he'd rather take a pay-cut than start from scratch.

this is 25% Kennard, 25% Reggie's injury killing the offense, 50% opportunity to get 4x all-nba player

Avery's shortcomings fit into that 2nd quadrant, but its not like he "didnt work out". obviously the Pistons havent given up on this season (and that may very well pay off when Reggie's back), but given the way the dominoes fell he just wasnt helpful paired with Ish Smith.

Get something now or face the choice of losing him for nothing versus a long deal. Clippers will probably flip him now as well for the same reason, especially given that carrying salary forward doesn't seem like something they want to do.

Because Lou and Bradley are still on expiring deals and both would be perfect on and desired by plenty of contenders. The Clippers should just do a hard rebuild, take the PR hit, and trade all four of the guys they can actually get returns for (DJ, Lou Will, Bradley, and Harris).

Still, that they got Blake's deal off the books and got this much back is pretty decent. As for Detroit, SVG may have just made a mess that'll take another half-decade to clean up. Not sure if he should be fired on the spot for this move or kept around since he's the only dude who has any idea how all that Detroit has now is supposed to work.

Those people are wrong. This team went from 4th in the conference to out of the playoffs. They were dropping fast with Reggie out. He still won't be back for another 3 or 4 weeks. Tobias has been playing like trash since Reggie went out and Avery has struggled since December. At this point, the Pistons had nothing to lose really. And...they got the best player in of the deal.

I agree it's kind of a panic move, but it won't make them any worse than they already are.

... but considering they've got Drummond for two more seasons until he has to exercise his player option, and they've pretty successfully surrounded him with an experienced PG and young supporting pieces, they want to show the dude that they're not constantly just stacking young talent-- they're looking to make playoff moves. This is definitely a playoff move, and as noted elsewhere, if they can successfully move pieces like Galloway or Leuer to clear more space, they could theoretically sign another good free agent this offseason.

Worst case scenario obviously is that Blake leaves his prime sooner rather than later and they're saddled with an untradeably huge deal. I get why people would be concerned about the status of this deal in 2021. That having been said, they have more immediate fish to fry, and they were ultimately going to have to sign someone to a big contract. Might as well have Blake.

but it's really sad when my example to point to is rasheed and I have to remember I'm talking about something that happened 15 years ago.

they haven't pulled players since then because they've sucked, and I think with a decent team, this city can be a destination (remember for a second that kobe almost came)

they just haven't had that for a fucking decade now.

not sure if it's a matter of rushing to trade him or the market being sour on him, but that seems like a really low return.

they don’t want to call it a “rebuild” that’s exactly what it is. I’m certain Ballmer signed off on this still a huge gamble for Doc, I wonder if he will be allowed to time to see it through...

The Pistons weren’t going anywhere as constructed. Free agents aren’t exactly flocking to Detroit so the only way they were going to get a star was to trade for one. Blake Drummond and Reggie could be a nice foundation. If Stanley and Kennard come anywhere close to the hype there’s no reason why they couldn’t be a top 4 seed in the East.

The only loser is Blake I imagine he’s not thrilled about leaving LA for the big D lol

The Clippers win by realizing Blake is not the guy to lead a team, getting flexibility and assets.

Blake/Drummond is a better version of Blake/DJ.

Still a Lakers town.

Andre did 14/15/3 with 3 stl and a block

Reggie Bullock and Stanley have combined for 77/19/9 over the past 2 games in place of Avery and Tobias.

Blake and Andre is going to be so NOT like Blake and DJ. There are going to be lots of games where they combine for 10+ assists.

when Reggie gets back...shit.

this team that took the floor tonight is probably capable of winning a playoff series with a favorable matchup. Ish Smith is worth his weight in gold vut he cant play 48 minutes a night.

this team with healthy and integrated Reggie is probably capable of winning 2, and theoretically they will be able to physically overpower anyone. stanley, blake, and andre are an 800 pound frontcourt with bounce and speed and vision.

but then again, maybe Reggie comes back and shit just doesnt click. its possible they scuffle along and are Celtics fodder in round 1.
