"1/20 Spence Jr vs Peterson & Miocic vs Ngannou UFC 220. Who's watching?"
Sat Jan-20-18 08:40 PM by Boogie Stimuli

In boxing today Spence Jr vs Peterson:

Most people are predicting Spence will take this one
by the 10th round at the latest.
Peterson will have to show me something I've never
seen from him before in order to pull this one off.

Robert Easter Jr vs Javier Fortuna on the undercard.

In the UFC today Miocic vs Ngannou:

I can't see a consensus on the favorite for Miocic vs
Ngannou. Miocic is a proven champ, but Ngannou is a
strong and powerful dude with punches you don't wanna
get hit with.

Comier vs Oezdemir on the undercard.

What a night for the fight game.

Who's watching?

that's looking exactly right.
I was wondering if Spence would come into this fight
having worked on his head movement. He hasn't, but
it doesn't matter too much, b/c Peterson ain't throwing
enough punches.

It's not looking really smart right now for him to
be standing in front of Spence like this.
Maybe he's trying to tire him out or something, but
I don't see this ending well for Peterson.
Peterson's counterpunching is looking sharp, but
I dunno if that's gonna be enough with Spence's volume.

I dunno how Peterson expected to win by standing
in front of Spence all night like that.
He would've had to dance around the ring on this
dude to even have a chance.
Another stoppage victory for Spence Jr.

He pounded Oezdemir out after Oezdemir saying he'd
knock Cormier out in the 1st, lol.
Better luck next time.
Cormier said he wanted another win to get the taste
of losing to Jon Jones out of his mouth, so he
should be good now.

He basically relied on the adrenaline of the
beginning of the fight for an early knockout.
Stipe is just taking him down letting him tire
himself out trying to get up while Stipe uses
techniques to hold him down.
This is making the fight mad boring, but I
doubt all these white UFC fans will say so,
since the white dude is winning against the
black guy lol. You only hear that when the
black guy is winning (i.e. Tyron Woodley
or like Mayweather and Lara in boxing)

If your opponent has no wrestling, fucking wrestle them. End of story. It's been proven effective time and time again even if it is "boring".

Stipe fought the best possible fight given what he was facing. I would have liked to see him being more aggressive going for a finish but in a way shutting down N'gannou to the degree that he did and dominating the fight for 99% of the fight

Did N'gannou throw a single body shot? No technique, no fight IQ, no wrestling defense, no ground game and no gas is a LOT of holes in your game. He's young and relatively inexperienced so I'm hoping he'll be able to develop and get better. But his game is chockful of holes. Right now, I am not bullish on him at all.

Btw, unless his corner was soaking those towels in liquid nitrogen he should fire them niggas.

I'm happy for Stipe mostly because of the vindication he must feel but bummed because I really wanted N'gannou to win the title so my cup could runneth over w/ the tears of white racist mma fans.

I was actually most disappointed in his striking. He set up nothing, he did no body work, and while he has the power to be lethal he displayed no technical acumen which would helped mitigate the fact that he had no energy. But yeah I agree

He definitely has time and if he takes the right lessons from this can become champion down the road but right now yeesh. I think a new camp would do him well

He didn't even attempt to control hos pace or set up any shots. The hell was that head kick about?

I think he might need a better camp. Those guys didn't send him out there with the right tools, and there is o question he took this fight too early even if he was the #1 contender.

All that being said, no one is pointing out that he snapped Miocic's knock out streak. By all rights Stipe should have knocked him cold in the 4th if not the 3rd. At least he has a chin, either because he has a chin or because he has a relatively short career.

He definitely has a chin and took some hard shots. The raw materials are for sure there but the hype machine and rush to capitalize on a fight set him back. I hope he doesn't turn into another Sokodju

One of the great things about Stipe winning is he is on #teamfuckdanawhite and I am all for that plus he's another champion who isn't about all the bullshit Rousey/McGregor/Lesnar era crap

was they were finally pushing a black/African fighter instead of their usual tactic of being indifferent at best and openly hostile at worst toward their black/non-white champs (Woodley, Demetrious Johnson, Cyborg, Nunes ) the way they push their unproven aryan dream children. (Note: I don't think Rousey deserves to be lumped in w/ the Sage Van Zants of the MMA world as she was on quite a tear albeit against lower level competition) But yeah when Rogan starts talking 'once-in-a-lifetime athlete shit' it is not a good look.

I think w/ N'gannou it was the perfect storm of him being white people's wet nightmare and the UFC being so desperate for stars that they can't help themselves. Stipe doesn't want to be a star, Brock is on the shelf and Cain hasn't fought in almost 2 years. And that is just the heavyweight division. So when they see something they like and think can generate interest and maybe sell PPVs to casuals they trip over themselves to take advantage of it. Problem is as you've noted that shit rarely works out and has ruined careers and fucked the sport into a cocked hat

In MMA wrestling is king. You can have all the one punch knock out power you want, it only takes 1 guy with a decent chin and good grappling to nullify your game plan.

If anything I'm impressed that N'Gannou made it all 5 rounds. After he couldn't put Stipe down in the 1st and 2nd I fully expected him to succumb to a ground in pound or to get subbed like Volkan.

His striking was almost as pathetic, no setups, bad footwork, just winging wild looping shots. The fact that he was able to get to this level with just power and brute force/strength is a testament to how weak the HW division is. Lol @ him talking before the fight about going after a fight with Anthony Joshua if he beat Stipe, the fight showed why his striking coach told him to focus on MMA and forget a boxing career when he first met him in Paris. With his lack of technique and conditionting he would have never made it to a high level as a boxer.

"Errol Spence is ducking me" said No One

Even with a title, nobody seems to want to fight this guy. Everybody and their mother wants a piece of Keith Thurman or Danny Garcia. One Time or "Some Time" as Spence referred to him was in Spence's shoes not too long ago. But as he increased his level of opposition, he appeared far less dominant. He has not stopped anybody since 2013. To be fair, his last two fights were against the best opposition he has ever faced. He deserved the decision in both fights but did not win either one convincingly. People want to fight Thurman now because he is vulnerable. Nobody is calling out Errol Spence.

Danny Garcia is probably the most likely candidate for his next fight. Porter is Thurman's mandatory and Keith has all but conceded that he will not fight Spence this year. More than likely, Porter and Thurman will have a rematch. That leaves Danny who has not given any indication he is willing to face Spence. As long as Crawford remains with Top Rank he might as well be fighting in the UFC. Haymon controls every big name fighter at 147 except Manny and Crawford. I hope Spence doesn't pull a Kell Brook and jump up two weight classes and fight Canelo. Too soon for that.

Folded Miocic with that left then smashed him like a roach.
3 African champs in the UFC now. 2 Nigerians and a Cameroonian.

Usman is next up against Masvidal in the rematch. Could be a tough one.

and that picture perfect sprawl in the first round were pivotal for Ngannou. Given the 30 pound advantage Francis had against him, I was impressed Miocic was able to defend the brief takedown Ngannou attempted in the first round when Miocic had his takedown reversed against the cage.

Ngannou with a ground game is gonna be VERY hard to beat. I see why Jon Jones is talking about wanting unprecedented amounts of UFC money for that fight lol.
Miocic definitely has a helluva chin to take those 1st round shots from Ngannou. I was surprised he weathered that storm so well myself. But I'm sure that softened him up for the left hook. Can only take so many hard shots before you're outta here.
