Looking forward to that match the most. If it's as good or better than the 2 out of 3 falls match last fall then it's an early contender for MOTY.

When they put the card together, it probably passed their smell test. There's good stories, good matches, spectacle matches, more than one 'steal the show' candidate, and some opportunities to do 'gotcha, bitches' finishes and even a turn or two (*looks at Sasha*).

Their most glaring failure is not having something better for AJ than sticking him with Shane. Shane should've been with Harper, Corbin, Ziggla or some other dude who isn't the best wrestler in the world right now. Too bad about Finn being hurt..maybe that was the AJ match? Certainly they didn't really have him vs HBK as THE plan, right?

Besides that, I'm slightly salty about Sami Zayn being so stuck in a 'mechanic' role to the degree that he has nothing to do at Mania. Last year, he wrecked Mania weekend with Nak and then in the ladder match. So they pretty much have to like him overall but dang. Him and Ziggla need to do something together to see if either can get to a better place by stealing some shows together. Even a Zayn/Harper program could be fun.

Okay..one more: My most 'booking the territory' thought is that Samoa Joe should be wrestling Strowman on this show. Joe cheating a little and beating Strowman would've been a solid look for both guys.

I'm NOT expecting a lot of surprises on this show. Maybe Dwayne shows up and eats clock even though it isn't necessary at all (IE: it wasn't last year either). Maybe the Broken Bros show up if the logistics work out (I doubt it). But I'm not waiting for anything like that.

Side: I still can't believe HHH/Reigns lasted as long as it did after that long ass show. last year Horrible decision. They overestimated the crowd's stamina big-time on that one. Or maybe they wanted us tired cuz they thought that would save the audio when Reigns was holding up the belt at the end. It didn't. Cats booed like crazy. Me and my friends were laughing about how heavy the boos were. I remember damn near wanting to leave in the middle of that match tho. I stayed to see Steph get SM punched/speared since that was a lock to happen.

I have a curse: I've been to Mania 25 and 32. Both of those had HHH at the end having a match way longer than it should've been.

I'm thinking about going to next year's Mania since I feel weird about not being in Orlando right now. I clearly like rasslin enough that I should go to the big shows.

The fuck you will!!!

What kind of selfish asshole even considers attending know what it portends?

The pattern is clear: you attend Mania we're all stuck with Triple Haitch chewing scenery. If you attend next year you're doing fans an incredible disservice.

In the flip.... By watching at home for just 9.99 you can be a minor superhero, knowing you're saving us all from a lackluster HHH main event.

Find the hero within, Jim.

Bwahahaha! Okay okay! I'll consider the people!

On the other hand, I was nowhere to be found when punked the hell out of Booker T that time. I was also not on-site during that Sting bullshit. See? Maybe it's NOT me. Maybe HHH is just occasionally horrible for the product when it is decided that he's a big enough deal to go on last and/or win a big match.

It's gonna be grand tag team rasslin. It's beautiful to see the artform renewed at this level. Rock n Roll Express lives and even Jim Cornette can't complain about it.

I'm watching hof now. These things are great fun when generally good folks get in. The mark in me smiles huge during the best moments of those.

I find that I enjoy the PPV's so much more when I don't watch any of the weekly shows.

The winners are less predictable to me because I know less, and thus I enjoy the matches more. And investing a few hours a month as opposed to a few hours every Monday and maybe a couple more on Tuesday? I'm fresh and ready for the PPVs when they happen, instead of worn out and exhausted of the product and watching out of habit.

Anything to spice up his presentation at this point. As it stands dude looks like the stock photo poster boy for corporate training image catalogs.

Either get it down to DIY/Revival, which is a matchup that will always produce greatness, or have AOP tear apart DIY to end it. It does less damage to DIY to be in that spot than it does The Revival. I believe they had Revival eliminate DIY as a "going away" gift, but to me it would've been better if they go out as the nearly perfect team that just gets bested by DIY most of the time. It was weird that Revival were in a faceish spot at the end.

Revival is so good that the Takeover crowds love them at this point. WWE may as well steer into the skid. We accuse WWE of being bad about not doing it at the right time. Revival as the sneaky thinking-man's tweener tag team works for me. They are pretty much a lock to get the call-up. Then we can get back to the DiY vs AoP story UNLESS DiY gets called up too.

And the story and finish of this? I'm with Cold..I LOVED IT. AOP are ridiculously powerful. DIY and Revival needed to get over their issue to take out AoP 'big dude in a battle royal' style. They eventually figured that out, tried to do it, but didn't stick to it long enough to actually succeed. And it screwed them both in ugly fashion. I loved it. I clapped at them when they sacked up and started working together.

For an old wrestling nerd like me, wrestling is at it's best when they 'give us enough credit' to assume we know how wrestling generally works. These supreme tag matches speak to me in a loud and clear voice and I hear it. I hope all of those dudes get a great career and some good money out of it. They could get tag rasslin to another sweet spot in time. And I'm all for having some struggling singles guys team up and get in on it as long as they become a part of real tag teams too.

I also thought the crowd died a little bit because they knew Revival didn't have a chance, but AOP destroying every team that's on their way out helps them get over.

She's good but she's pretty much her finisher to most folks. I love that WWE has so many women who can for real work now. And they manage to pull it off and still have a gang of women who are attractive. Ember is just 'another solid one' at this point.

This wrinkle makes her chase for the title more interesting and she still hasn't lost clean. They can add to her character with this feud and then have her beat Asuka when there's an actual story there.

Yep. Agreed.

It's WWE taking time to 'show their work' instead of falling (again) into the rut of 'newest person from somewhere else can't lose against anyone'. Most of the time with NXT, it made sense, but they need to not turn it into a(nother) trope.

They accomplished a big piece tonight. Asuka was feeling herself and tonight's match did a good job of telling the 'don't get too comfortable' story. Her having to get shady to save herself from losing is the right call.

I love these NXT shows. Through the whole card, the ring-work is what I want and I can usually wrap my mind around the finishes right then and there even if it isn't what I called for when I inevitably 'book the territory' in my mind. Even better, I can go into lots of NXT matches without even thinking about the finish. I try to do the same thing with the main shows but I still catch myself.

Tomorrow is going to be FUN.

He's not the typical dude from the indies who shows up with crazy moves.

He's rock solid in the ring (ie: a good hand) and in crazy good shape (especially for his age). It's boring at its worst but he's the type of guy you can always use. I'm happy for him basically stumbling into the whole glorious thing. He's not gonna mess it up since he has a gang of experience headlining even if it was in tna. He's good and he can headline these nxt shows and help other folks along.

It's hard to get a bad match out of him.

He's also the kind of heel and worker that could easily be elevated higher up the card with a big man heater or heel faction. Put him with Revival and a guy like Corbin as hired muscle and you can easily give him a good stint as a top heel.

And he'd be a great addition to the main roster.

Also, he won and most reports have Nakamura debuting on the main roster soon so Roode is most likely anchoring the top heel slot in NXT until at least SS Takeover if not the entire next year.

Funny you say that. I thought Roode was VERY good in Beer Money too. Storm makes for a solid Tully, but Roode was great in his role.

If anything, Roode is Arn Anderson who got a chance to play HHH/Ted DiBiase for a while in TNA. Or maybe he's a better, less stigmatized Jeff Jarrett.

Analogies aside, HE IS GOOD. And he's not just carrying a good 'look'. Dude is IN SHAPE. He can feed a face comeback sequence 20 minutes in. He can do tricky spots safely to the point where it seems 'routine'. And he's selling fatigue late in matches moreso than actually being tired. He's also borderline GREAT as it relates to building heat over the course of a match.

There's no way WWE doesn't feel like they got a gift from TNA. He's probably gonna BE main eventing in NXT and he'll probably do well for a while when he gets called up if they decide they want him to do well.

One more Roode thing: to me, he's the one leading these Nak title matches. As much as I love Nak, he has a little Ric Flair/'follow the format' to him when he's leading the way. Even worse, he's not above forgetting about an injury. Don't get crazy, I'm gonna love him on the main roster if they sack up and let him win matches against real opponents but I think Nak's future WWE prospects look better off after having worked with Roode. He stepped his game up with Roode and came a bit more into what WWE probably wants from him in-ring.

With the additions of him, Black and KO they've done an excellent job reloading before Swag leaves. With Cole probably on his way in as well they're on their way to a solid roster.

I'm guessing Tye and Revival get the calls along with Swag. I wonder if Asuka hits the main roster as well after tonight. I'd like to see her hand over the title and walk out undefeated.

He went off and made himself a solid worker. All of his finishers are reasonably over now and he's had some main events and good programs under his belt. Another shot with WWE may turn out REALLY well for him. Add in that he's a pretty large man who can move around well and we could be in for a treat if he eats a few sensible dinners and gets favor backstage.

He rubbed the wrong people the wrong way and came across as an uncoachable guy who thought he knew it all.

According to him he'd get this reaction for simply presenting ideas and asking questions. Frankly I believe his version of events but I digress.

Anyhow he got stuck in a lower card role so because of it. When he left he rebuilt himself and gained valuable experience. He made good on his potential.

Trust..... Bringing him in is a big deal.

Yep. Same here. They all looked like 'real' titles that they could roll with for a decent amount of time. If NXT can fill up a Raw arena at a big Takeover, we're getting to a crazy point in time where NXT could and should basically be the destination for indy dudes who want an in-house shot at showing WWE what they can do with a crowd, green folks, other vets, and stars from Japan.

ROH: I'd love for WWE to have the library so they could do right by it via the network. But I still like ROH existing separately as a viable option for folks to go when/if their WWE run fizzles. And having another place to go allows for weird and awesome stuff like Broken Hardys or Dalton Castle to happen.

And hell, Lucha Underground can only house so many guys and as awesome as it is, it is certainly a different watch that some folks can't get with.

And who knows what TNA is gonna end up being. Maybe they can get stabilized to the point where folks can trust them agai...hahaha...nevermind. TNA is, at best, our glimpse into what could've happened if WCW came back. And just like WCW, when it is bad, it is amazingly bad.

Taker should go on last no matter what is happening with Lesnar and Goldberg.

Taker is to the point where any Mania could be his last for physical reasons. And if he's ever gonna lose another one, it absolutely has to go on last...no questions.

So logically, putting him on last even if he's gonna win and try to go again last year is smart.

Maybe someday we'll be able to agree on things that require you to exercise a little critical thought.

Can you explain how I'm "on your nutts" when each exchange in here was initiated by you?

I'd love to hear your logic on that one.

>Jesus how bitter a guy must u be Hahahaha

Lmao yeah I'm bitter because you're habitually stupid at every turn in every subject you ever speak on at all times.

You're 0-2 for statements that make sense in one post.

He's been the third piece of the Taker / Roman angle.
He's WAY TOO GOOD not to be utilized on the main card within that match tonight.
For him to just be relegated to the battle royal will be a huge disappointment.

I have Owens/y2j in the 'steal the show' spot right now. I feel more confident above t that now. They can't layout a match that clowns the whole show as the opener, right l?

Shane with a coast to coast? Is that what I heard it called?
Shane with an elbow to the announce table spot.. AJ rolled out of the way. Shane got a better jump than on Smackdown.

Shane with a missed shooting star and AJ with a forearm to win.

The money is in heel champ Sasha with face Bayley chasing. Yeah that already happened in NXT, but who cares? Most weren't watching and those who were probably loved it enough to see it again.

they're idea was to have an exposed turbuckle play a part in both pinfalls. however, charlotte struggled getting it exposed...plus there was very little set up in the banks elimination, it seemingly came out of nowhere.

Yes. If he doesn't, Nikki has the world's blessing to kick him in the junk on camera. That would be one way to get that Cena heel turn that we wanted half a decade ago.

But don't sweat it, he's proposing. No doubt.

Tna being a shit company paid a great service to us once again.

I kinda doubted they were coming until New Day showed up. Broken or not, that was a joy to behold. That alone is gonna propel this show short and long term.

It was kinda funny when they were doing it to indies on TNA, but then they did it at Ring of Honor, and now WWE. I'm in Fuck the Hardys mode now...probably more than I was during their initial WWE run.

It's fine. They're over as a new thing with a grand legacy from before. They're old and won't be around forever. It's a fun and silly but intricate gimmick.

And really...tag titles? There's a gang of times where we could mess around and not even know who the tag champs are. When it's Broken Bros, we'll certainly know. And it might be a 1-night thing for all we know. Expedition of Gold man!

to win another high-profile feud and add to their resume. The Hardys took the title off of them after they had just defended and then the Bucks won it back, so that only makes the Bucks and ROH look better.

With the WWE you might have more of an argument, but there wasn't enough going on in the Raw tag division to bring the Hardys on as just another hand. They're instantly the best/most popular team in the division, so why not give us a cool Mania moment for a team that doesn't need a build? The other teams have been very middling in performance and crowd response, even Enzo/Cass. I think this can light a fire under their asses so one team can dethrone the Hardys. It's a win for everyone but TNA.

Similar to the super bowl, I usually care not for the performances.

But WWE seems to have an idea of how they want to pace things. They put some 'rest hold' shit on these shows on a reg. They've damn near eaten through all of the Broken goodwill they had with the crowd. I'm yawning listening to Bray's whole theme song now.

There's so many people there, and if you can't keep them engaged throughout the night then you're just the Oscars at that point, a plodding 4 hour death march.

These entrances take forever, shuttle these guys to the ring faster

These music performances are awful, get rid of them

This match order is so random, just build to the biggest match over the night

This shit started at 7pm, it's 10:30 and there's 2 matches left man.

but one RKO finished Bray?

heavily disappointed in that match.
Rowan has been dropping new vignettes on twitter..
Could've utilized Harper.

Bray is supposed to be the monster heel on Smack Down.
Why have him win the title only to hold it for a short period?
If that were the case, he should've won it AT freaking WRESTLEMANIA.

the mat FX were cool, but used poorly.
If were going to use them, should've used them both
at same time at end of match, freaking out Orton or something.

Orton doesn't need belt.
Bray should've retained.

I thought BRAY should've won and sealed his position as
DOMINANT SMACK DOWN HEEL and have AJ gear up to win as a FACE at SummerSlam.

so dumb imo.

and this Brock / Goldberg match gonna be EVEN MORE DUMB.

what a dumb thing to have and it didn't even add anything to the match?
the rko is usually effective because you can pull it out of nowhere and it's still a convincing finish. not this time.

It was in its way to being one of the best ones. Then HHH had to have his 'epic' and 'physical' encounter. And then whatever the hell that Bray and Orrton match was happened.

And yeah man...6 or 7 of the first 11 manias are reasonably putrid. The worst ones ever are in that mix. Even 14 and 15 were pretty weak and Russo-fied.

We can't forget that TNA being a clownshow of a company made it possible for the expedition of Gold to continue into ROH and WWE.

Wwe probably wants tna to stay around. TNA does such a good job of letting guys build value by essentially booking themselves.

It is still baffling that they could take their most over act and run them out of the company and end up in a lawsuit over a gimmick that they know damn well they didn't create. They deserve credit for letting it go on long enough to become a thing but it ain't like they had any better ideas.

I'll skim the first 2.5 hours tomorrow.

Orton/Bray seemed to have no heat whatsoever.

Brock/Bill was I think as good as it could be. There were no broken bones or nasty head wounds, so that's probably a win for all parties.

Women's match was getting pretty good, but rushed, and then it was over.

Reigns pins Taker, starts walking up the ramp, then turns, runs to the ring, grabs a steel pipe from under the ring and beats the shit out of Taker with it, screaming and kicking him, until finally enough security drags him away while EMTs attend to Taker. And now Reigns has enough genuine, old-school Sportatorium/Memphis/Freebirds-escorted-into-the-arena-through-the-back-entrance blind fan death threats hatred heel heat to last the rest of the decade.

It was two different shows. Preshow up to raw tag team ladder match was borderline excellent. Skip the promos, watch the matches.

After that, it was mostly shaky stuff that I felt like I was struggling to get through. Brock vs Goldy was probably the best match you saw. They sped through it which makes that HHH/Rollins match even worse.

To make it worse for me, Pitbull came out when I really needed to see something good again. It basically turned my wrestling nerd brain off for the rest of the night. I might need to watch the 2nd half again and skip the promos and Pitbull.

Taker is to the point where he can't be carried by most of the guys they're gonna put him with. I love the dude's 2nd half of a career. He had some boss ass matches, but now he's physically depleted and it's best that he rolls out. And rolling out on your back is wrestling done right, so Reigns winning via damn near having to kill him was the right call.

BUT

Reigns needs to soak in the boos and more officially accept his heel standing at Raw. And WWE needs to get in on it too instead of winking about it. Then we could have some fun. He could be the best kind of heel..the one who thinks he's right and the crowd is wrong. But of course, he'd occasionally take it too far. The Bret Hart 97.

It's so crazy to think about how over he was until WWE started 'overdoing' it with him. I remember a gang of folks wanting him to win a rumble. Then he lost and folks were ticked!

Now, folks don't even want him landing a punch.

He must sell hella merch tho. Otherwise, the heavy-handed heel run we all seem to want would've been going on. I'm still silly enough to hold out hope that they are gonna do it at least temporarily. If they do it right, we'd likely forgive them for taking so long to build it up. And again, Bret 97 heeling is what I want from him.

Hopefully folks don't hate him for the Taker thing. Taker was losing last night no matter who WWE put him with.

Oh boy, imagine the rub Strowman could've gotten from that win. While you're at it, turn tide one more time and imagine the bitter beer faces most of us made when Taker vs Strowman was floating out there a year or so ago...

Last year I was at Dallas and I remember feeling like a hostage by the end of the show.

This year ended at 12:12 Eastern after a 5 PM pre show start time which had 3 matches in it.

Mania either needs to become 2 nights or they need to stop throwing everyone possible into it because it's just too much.

they have so much TV that half the programs need to feel like a main event to justify the amount of TV they've received, and it just comes across like an overbooked mess. I agree with adding another night (cause they have no ability to cut thing things down). It's just too damn long and there's too many programs each year.

say what you want about the product these days, but there's no denying that the WWE does digital better than any big sports league. They're the early adopters on everything, super engaged with their fans online, and obsessed with their social numbers. Top that off with how ahead-of-its-time the Network was and from the outside looking in they seem like a really forward-thinking company who sees digital as their biggest opportunity for growth. Simply, they seem in touch with consumer behavior in 2017.

But that progressiveness is in stark contrast to how they actually produce shows and create content. They do far too much.

No one wants to sit still through a three hour TV show on a Monday night or endure a FIVE HOUR pay-per-view. As we saw this season, not even the all-powerful NFL is immune to disinterest. You would think that the WWE gets just how many entertainment platforms there are now and how short people's attention spans have gotten - again, they seem to really get how crucial an organized digital strategy is to growing. But it's overboard.

This is totally speculative, but I sense that Stephanie oversees the digital side of the house while Vince is firmly planted in the creative side still. Total stab in the dark. But that would explain the chasm between their stellar digital effort and their excessive content production schedule.

There are something like 80 wrestlers on the main roster. But you see half of those, if that, on a regular basis. It boggles my mind how NXT and LU can tell more stories in less time than the main WWE roster.

Even with 3 hours to fill, Reigns doesn't have to be on every Raw. Give me 20 minutes telling me why I should care about freaking Fandango- not every week, but once a month,. Johnny Curtis is an entertaining dude, so let me see that. Let a title chase breathe, so that we don't see X HAS PINNED THE Y CHAMP! as a way to set up the match. The audience will care if the E gives them reasons to.

In response to Reply # 118

Combine NXT and night 1 on Saturday night. Here is where you put all of the smark and internet darling matches along with a headlining match, then Sunday is your traditional Mania.

Saturday could have been NXT (maybe scrap a match or two), KO vs Jericho, IC title, SD women's (with more time), a SD tag title match like Alpha vs Usos and then Brock vs Goldberg.

Sunday you put all of the rest and let Reigns/Taker Headline

People can buy tickets for both nights or either night since people buy Mania tickets before knowing the card anyway and then fans won't get burned out being forced to sit there for 7 hours.

I suspect this may have been to add a notch to Bray's belt. He's now a "former WWE champion" for the rest of his career cause they knew he's good enough to be called that, not cause they were all that excited to put the strap on him. Creative for him was still all over the place when he became champ and that match did him no favors... SIGH. I'm hoping I'm wrong and this drives him mad until he gets his revenge and rules over Smackdown, but they'll probably just do (yet another) reboot on him.

They'll argue that they've been doing this already but nope...not quite. It's great that they knew how it would go tonight and sent Roman out there with one line to deliver and like 20 minutes to drop it.

-longest mania ever (both literally and figuratively). pacing for some matches (trip-rollins, rko-wyatt) were...so...damn...slow.
-brock-goldy was more entertaining than i ever thought it would be.
-does seth rollins have the whackest ring attire? he looked like he should be cee-lo's bodyguard at the emmy's.
-are they not doing the broken hardys gimmick? wtf?
-speaking of wtf...wtf was the point of the maggots in the rko-wyatt match?

i'm excited for the product post-mania. with taker, goldberg, and at least temporarily, cena all being gone, they're going to have to really build around the "next generation". symbolic of this was the fact that there were no legends segments in this mania...not even a ron simmons "damn"!

TNA is trying to claim ownership (lol, zero chance it was their idea) so I think WWE is keeping it intentionally vague until that gets sorted out. Matt hinted on twitter that it'll happen eventually, but who knows if Vince even gets it. It's possible he just brought them back to do the usual schtick.

I just got cable back so I haven't watched either show in about 9 months. Watching Raw is a chore, but I can get through a good 2 hour pro wrestling show with Nakamura, AJ Styles, and American Alpha on it for example.

That was a good wrestling show last night. Nothing over done.

- Bray Wyatt is damaged goods at this point. They're never going to blast him off to the moon like they did the Undertaker, so you may as well just move Randy onto something else if you're hell bent on him being the champion. A heel Randy vs a face AJ Styles would be best for the time being. The fumbling of Bray Wyatt is one of the great errors they've made ever. He loses every big match. Gets chumped by everybody. To think they made Mankind a star but can't figure this kid out is so weird.

- it seems AJ turned face last night. With Cena gone, AJ Styles could be your new Shawn Michaels for years to come. Commit to him and showcase him in every big spot.

- Nakamura just has "it". What more can I say that hasn't been said by everyone a million and one times? You're bought in on the entrance alone before he even gets in the ring. Big money programs in his future - Cena, Styles, maybe Reigns?

- Dean Ambrose blows. He's now in the "who gives a shit" basket with Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, etc.

- put the IC title on Baron Corbin and get on with it. There's higher upside with him than there is with Ambrose.

I was thinking a lot about this last night and was pretty bummed. I think a lot of Dean's problems have to do with him, but they ruined a huge opportunity coming out of that Rollins betrayal.

Agree with Tiger that Bray is one of their worst fuck-ups. The lack of crowd reaction to him last night was stunning... and those were all the smarks. This was their last chance to really make him something and they screwed the pooch.

both last night and at Mania he got no reaction - good or bad - whatsoever.

For all intents and purposes, he's really the exact same character he's been for about a decade. In fact, "Legend Killer" Randy was far more interesting than this iteration that we've watched for the last 10 years.

My only hunch is that he plays really well in certain parts of the country - like the smark Madison Square Garden crowd probably doesn't care, but I bet he gets huge pops in your Des Moines and Boises.

when he's invested in a program his in-ring work and psychology are both great. He does some subtle stuff that goes under the radar, but character-wise it's old hat. Shit, they couldn't even bother to dress him like the Wyatts and he was with them for like 8 months. In 2017 he should be there to get over the newer guys and nothing else. Title runs for Old Man Orton make no sense.

But if they move AJ and don't get an equally big name over to Smackdown then the brand is screwed, especially with Cena seemingly going part-time.

>Smackdown then the brand is screwed, especially with Cena
>seemingly going part-time.

AJ for Reigns was the rumored swap. I understood when I heard it (a month or so ago).

AJ on the same show with Club and Balor = the fun can begin.

Reigns with Usos in reach could get us to more of a lean into (temporary) heeldom. He could 1-line crowds from now until Summerfest and probably be the most over thing on the show no matter how they align him if/when he just shows up and whoops folks in the ring. I just hope they can keep it simple/awesome/easy. And yes, I want him to show up a few times and end up saying nothing verbally but saying it all with the good old 'face-making' that says all that needs to be said.

Anything that gets Smackdown a forreal top heel is cool with me. Bray rambling on every week when it's pretty clear that he's gonna lose like a bitch every time it even kinda matters is enough to cut the legs off of the whole brand.

Mix that with Orton sauntering his boring ass around with the main belt and this shake-up needs to happen post-haste. It's like he needs DDP to lay out his matches or something. As it stands, dude is the worst kind of WWE guy who is basically filling time in-between signature spots. And there's no one regularly making him mix his shit up so he's damn near a one-move rassler. He's too talented for that to be his story.

I'm not talking about a world title push or anything. He's not special on that level by any means BUT there is *something* about his overall presentation that just fucking WORKS.

I'm sure we'll see a few crowds who don't fuck with him but by and large I think the connection he had with the fans at Full Sail will carry over.

His entrance is such a fun and engaging part of the act and I think he's perfect for SD

Admittedly, I'm a bit of an NXT noob, but they seemed to be building him up there a la Sami Zayn/Bayley, as the wrestler who just can't get that big win until they finally get the biggest win of all. I figured he'd challenge Bobby Roode, win the title, lose it, then get called up after a short reign later in the year, but he left NXT without ever really paying off the consistent losing.

I'm mostly wondering where this leaves the NXT title picture. Who's gonna challenge Roode now?

He would've been perfect to have overthrown Roode though.

Looking around the roster though, I don't see who is a legitimate contender for Roode as you say. Roderick Strong has a lot more ground to cover before he's in that picture I think, maybe No Way Jose one day but I don't really see that... Eric Young with Sanity could be a good move?

I think Ohno is firmly a face so I'm not sure who between Drew or Black on the heel front. In a short interview with Drew after Takeover he spoke about running around and winning titles everywhere since he left WWE and asked the interviewer "Why do you think I'm here?"

So my guess is he winds up heel.

But they have excellent choices for the top two heel/face slots.

It's a rumor, so grain of salt and all that, but Drew was a wonderful heel in the indies and I feel crowds will naturally get behind AB so I'm kinda puzzled by that. I won't outright dismiss the idea till i see it though. Ohno can play both very well though, so perhaps a quick turn is in the works (though his gear is very faceish). If that's the case they shoulda had him beat down Tye after he got pinned though. That woulda been instant heat.

His Impact run was garbage but I think there's enough there to, at a minimum, make for an entertaining NXT character. He has a strong knack for character work and IMO he's a quality body and could conceivably reinvent himself again in NXT.

He's almost certainly missing something, but yeah..I'd like to see him reconcile with WWE and not go out of the biz with a whimper (or whatever we're gonna call that Liberace/Adrian Adonis 2017 stuff).

His work as Mizdow as well as his original run before he chumped out to Cena on his cash-in had all sorts of good stuff going on.

i mean there's nothing about how they've treated him so far that makes me think they aren't 100% on board, but moreso i have faith that he'll get over with fans (cause how can he not?) and it will force them to take him seriously if they get cold feet.

the one bad part is idk how they can use him on Talking Smack reliably, which the company has been relying on heavily to get wrestlers and feuds over. however i'd still be more nervous if he was on Raw cause it's so much easier to get lost in the mix there.

Jesus.

If I ever have to fight again I pray to god this joint is playing in my ears. I'm talking anyone or anything- people, zombies, aliens, robot dinosaurs from the future, the vampire ghost of Richard Nixon, you name it. You square up on me while I can hear this joint I'm pretty sure I'll be so hype on that SS5 Vegeta tip that the whole planet might be in danger.

And that's how I see AB. Frankly I’m just as marked out for him as I was for Swag. The entire presentation of him is so badass.

I realize I'm gushing with all this high praise but hear me out. Up to this point the WWE presentation of badass has been largely of the “Juiced Up Jock” variety. Batista, Brock, Goldberg, Rock. Austin was an outlier but instead of going for that kind of outlaw Vince opted for a generic lifted truck, cock-rock listening type.

AB comes across like a child of the best qualities of Orton + Punk sans the WWE corporate sanitization, and I mean that in the most glowing terms possible,. I realize how people react to comparisons like that but this is limited to the cloth of their aesthetic and demeanor, not in terms of drawing power, marketability, etc.

I’m just saying he’s a genuinely exciting prospect. I’ve shown a few friends who were equally intrigued, but aside from PU I’m surprised I didn’t see more of that in here.

If you give me Punk's brilliantly nuanced in-ring stuff without the Phil out-of-ring stuff, I'm all in. If you give me whatever Orton was when he was at least kinda sorta 'dangerous' and he was Garvin Stomping folks in the middle of matches and 'punting' folks into vacations, I'm also all in. Even if you mix those two together with a bit missing, I'm all in.

Real talk: I knew NOTHING of Tommy End. NOTHING. But I saw the excitement when he was announced as heading to WWE. His NXT match made me nod in approval. Him and Almas killed it and got the point across very clearly, so I'm in. I have not gone back on his work yet but I will. When WWE does a decent enough job, the previous work isn't as essential as it was before.

AB will be 32 next month so he has plenty of time to have one helluva WWE run, so color me amped as well.

Swag...I'm still kinda scurred. It has been pretty good so far. It's funny how showing up and working with Sami out of the gate is a good look. WWE should stay into that. Anyway, I LOVE that Swag will be kneeing Miz in the face first off. Almost anyone can get cheered by punching/kicking Miz in the face. It's a rock solid/smart move by WWE. AND Miz can carry the talking stuff that WWE luvs to have.

I'm most scurred about what happens to Swag if he doesn't take off huge with rando crowds early on. As it stands now, it seems that he won't be able to talk his way out of a jam if it comes. If not, then he'll be left to the booking to get saved. And WWE doesn't exactly 'save' everyone with booking...especially once you start off 'slow' in their eyes. If he veers too far into comedy or if he gets to losing a little too much, he could be riding next to Ziggla, Rusev, and Ambrose in the 'barely making shows' lane 2 years from now.

I've actually been watching some early NXT that they just added to the network and... Ohno really wasn't in bad shape back in 2012. He had love handles but NOTHING like the tummy he has today. It's promising that they put him in the ring with the likes of Roode to start out his reboot, but I don't think they'll truly be able to get over his appearance unless he gets it together.

I don't even have that much experience with him but I can already tell they got it right. Never seen him live, only caught some of his PWG matches before the UK tourney appearance. Based on tidbits I've heard about him though they've perfectly incorporated his real-life personality into this. Really intriguing guy with a crazy backstory. So far they've nailed this.

182. "Bill Apter suggests that the Undertaker character should live on"
In response to Reply # 0
Fri Apr-07-17 01:01 PM by Cold Truth

Apter suggested the idea of Mark handing off the gloves, hat, and jacket to another wrestler.

When I first read it I was like what? That’s fucking stupid. There’s just no way that would work!

Then the WZ writer suggested Luke Harper for the role.

I thought about that and you know what? They could really build up the mythology of this. The Undertaker can exist as an entity unto itself that seeks a worthy host.

You spend some time writing a long arc where Taker- Mark Calloway- talks about how The Undertaker is truly immortal, how he’s not the first, how this power was given to him by one before him and how he he has a responsibility to pass it down to someone worthy or else this power may fall into the wrong hands, all culminating in the rebirth of the Undertaker at next year’s Mania, and you do Harper vs Bray, who is fighting against this transformation. We could witness a coronation of sorts, some kind of ceremonial ritual on the go-home show to really sell it.

Luke would then play The Undertaker in his own way. His own mannerisms, his own move set, his own speaking style, ring gear, etc. Maybe keep a few things, such as the top rope walking tomahawk and tombstone finish, but he would genuinely be a new creation imbued with the power of The Undertaker.

Hell you could just ape Batman Beyond and keep Taker around as an occasional on screen mentor, teaching Luke how to properly wield this power and responsibility.

Actually you wouldn’t even need to call him The Undertaker, just make Luke a spinoff character. Make him takers chosen disciple and give him his own name and gimmick imbued with Takers same “powers of darkness” or whatever. In fact, I like that better than simply keeping The Undertaker. Just build on the mythology with only one person given the responsibility to wield that power at one time.

You could write it with the idea that Undertaker exists to maintain balance so that the forces of darkness don’t overrun things, and maybe Luke struggles with that. Whatever, who knows, I’m just spit balling here, but man… after some thought I think Apter’s idea has some seriously dope possibilities.

Naturally this would require a dedicated level of care and discipline from creative as well as Mark’s full support and active participation to get over. For the record I don’t think there’s any chance it happens and if it did Vince would badly dilute it and wind up doing some bullshit comedy or whatever as Luke would lack the clout Mark has to properly protect it and for that reason alone I wouldn’t even want to see them try.

But yeah… Apter low key blew my mind once I got past my knee jerk response.

What say you all? Is there a way this could work well? It's fun to ponder this on some parallel world shit IMO. It's the scenario fantasy booking is made for.

I'd have some cryptic stuff with Kane and Harper going on first then if Luke could be "the chosen one" then you go full on with Taker being the mentor. Other than that, all that you posted could work.

I love the comic book element to the idea and Luke Harper is perfect for the role. A great worker who can't really find himself post-Wyatts - it's perfect but I don't think WWE would be able to nail it story-wise and I feel like "Who is the Undertaker?" would be the constant story going forward...

Using Harper as the example, I can see Bray challenging him to be the next Undertaker, then it would be someone else coming out claiming to be the REAL Undertaker, then there'd be a Fatal Fourway to see who the real Taker was... It'd be endless.

But even worse than that, what if he ends up... a jobber. What if the project completely fails, the crowd don't buy into it, the replacement underperforms and the next thing you know, New Taker is competing for a spot in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal and losing the match to Curt Hawkins.

Of course it would be smart to have an idea of who would take it after Harper.

I really like this idea, and Harper would be great for it. As someone else said: the passing down of gimmicks is one of the funnest parts of Mexican wrassling.

>You spend some time writing a long arc where Taker- Mark
>Calloway- talks about how The Undertaker is truly immortal,
>how he’s not the first, how this power was given to him by
>one before him and how he he has a responsibility to pass it
>down to someone worthy

*Gives Luke a motorcycle and the Limp Bizkit discography*

jkjk never again

>Luke would then play The Undertaker in his own way. His own
>mannerisms, his own move set, his own speaking style, ring
>gear, etc. Maybe keep a few things, such as the top rope
>walking tomahawk

For some reason I've always loved this move and it doesn't even look that devastating. I guess it's just that it takes a lot of agility and balance for a big man.

This week's recommendation: AJ Lee's “Crazy Is My Superpower”

It’s an excellent read. It’s also the least wrestling-centric book of any I’ve read, so make of that what you will. Frankly I’d love for my daughter to read it at an age appropriate time in her life because she really hits home on the idea of what it means to be a girl/woman on her own terms, free of the labels and stigmas society would place on her.

Some notes:

-Maybe a fifth of it really focuses on her wrestling career, though she does sprinkle plenty of those crumbs leading up to it and you do get some joyful glimpses of the depth of her fandom. It is refreshing to hear the female perspective of that fandom.

-Very little is said about her relationship with Punk, though she does take you through a concise montage of that courtship. If you’ve seen the WWE Punk documentary and/or know his history, it makes perfect sense that these two ultimately wound up together.

-“Crazy” refers not just the mental illness within herself and her family but also her but the off-kilter nature of her mentality. Early on she gushes of her love of comic books, explaining at one point how her Barbie playtime consisted of reenacting Jean Gray’s suicide and subsequent rebirth in the Phoenix Saga.

-Some disturbing and heartbreaking moments regarding her mother that illustrate well the mental health aspect of the book.

I found the book deeply relatable on a personal level as there are many elements of her life that I identified with directly, so make of that what you will. It’s definitely a triumphant tale written with a deft and discerning touch. She definitely hits on the darker side of her upbringing without going for the jugular of your heartstrings and it pays off big.

What I love is that I can’t tell if that tonal balancing act was the product of a conscious effort or simply the result of a general spirit of joy and enthusiasm that also shines throughout. As far as pro wrestler bios go this is one of the more productive reads around.

Some have funny stories, others give you a mountain of salacious dirt, but AJ just kind of bares the soul of who she is and what makes her tick in a way that sets her story apart from most others. Pro wrestling is all about establishing a connection with fans and AJ pulls that off in droves here.

Highly recommended read.

Usually I would have said they went too far and should've stopped while they were ahead, but I think it was a nice little bow on that segment. Just so how over the top it was is almost like saying right now the fans wouldn't mind seeing the worst happen to him. What I didn't like about the segment is after they did a masterful job last week with him they made him come off wack again. I at least would have had Cole talk a little longer and right before he answers that is when Strowman attacks.

But Reigns getting obliterated made my night...does nothing for the RomanCena "turn" (which was set up about as well as they could get it coming out of WM IMO), but it was great for a one night thing.

Yeah...it's scary around this time of year cuz you wait for WWE to go back to half-tailing it and crowds being tame.

This 'shake-up' set them up to have Raw as the star show and SD as the rasslin show (super NXT if you will) so we'll see how long they can keep it rolling.

Imagine how great he looks as heel after heel just backs down fighting him. Basically climbs the ranks because nobody will take him on, finally KO steps up after 3 months and loses.

3 months until we actually get to see him fight, just people hiding from him and him getting a few attacks in.

I guess that could backfire, but it would build so much anticipation to him finally fighting. Basically the reverse eva marie.

I would keep doing what they are doing with him now. Have him just come out and show how the crowd pops and show off his charisma, but then have him wrestle a dark match after the show. He's done that the past two SDLives with Zigs. I'd do it for about a month and a half and the next PPV have is first televised call up match then have is first SD televised match the next show.

It seems like the average person looks at any well-crafted physique and automatically assumes it’s steroids. Considering how much a physique relies on diet and exercise, I generally take the tact such a look is possible with extreme discipline. I think the average person lacks that level of discipline and dedication, thus the immediate assumption of steroids.

I’ve had these discussions with various athletic types, even a few mma fighters, who tell me they work out and diet properly, etc, and they generally stand on that experience over my own perceptions, so there is that. Still, I can’t divorce the notion that there’s a difference between the sort of dieting and workout regimens required to achieve Jinder’s look than it takes for one of these guys to lose a decision fight at the local casino.

I’d say there’s a difference when your full time job partly entails maintaining an incredibly well sculpted appearance and hitting the gym for an hour or two after leaving the 9-to-5, particularly when you factor in his natural size. In fact I’d say most people could achieve results in any field beyond even lofty expectations were they afforded (or created) the time luxury to focus squarely on a particular goal, so I don’t see how this would be any different.

Of course there are supplements and what have you, but when I look at Jinder’s build he’s actually quite lean and proportionate, just shredded beyond belief. I imagine the appearance we see is somewhat enhanced. I imagine he could do a quick workout or cardio a few minutes before screen time, maybe a little baby oil or what have you to make the look pop a little extra. Obviously we can’t say he’s *not* on the juice and he’s certainly hit an extreme level.

I’m posing the devil’s advocate question here because it seems the immediate response from pretty much everyone is always “juice!” with a body like his, and I can’t imagine everyone being right every time out. So my question then is, if it’s not necessarily probable, is it still reasonably possible?

and a guy's build alone doesn't make me assume anything, but those veins are popping off the screen. Maybe he just has the strictest regimen/diet or maybe he got off stuff before rejoining WWE, but christ those veins are disgusting looking. I don't even give a shit about PEDs anymore, least of all in an industry where you gotta do this 300 days a year, I'm just amazed he's getting away with it if that's the case.

I think speculating on roids for actual sports can be harmful in many cases, but for wrestling it's not like they're gonna test them more just cause of some internet speculation. They already take the wellness policy very seriously, if only to make sure no one's coked up and whatnot.

The tag division took a hit (especially where Raw got Revival and the Hardys) and losing Miz sucks, but the Womens division will be just fine with Charlotte at the helm and the Mens division got a HUGE boost. I think they'll be doing a draft after Summerslam so who knows how long this lasts. I'm guessing there's some sort of Shield reunion in order to bolster Raw.

I had sort of put the idea of Finn turning heel out of my mind but this makes a lot of sense now that AJ is staying on Smackdown. With all the Shield members as faces now this totally works. The Club needs something big to get them over too, that'd be huge for them. I want stables more than anything right now.

It would require disciplined announcing so we all know this ain’t happening, but indulge me.

Swag simply needs to win and it doesn’t really matter if he’s squashing people or having competitive matches. Let him play to the level of his competition, but in a way that illustrates his dominance.

If he’s in there with a guy like Curt Hawkins (he’s gone now, but that’s the only jobber I can think of right now), Swag lets Curt get some quality offense in. Here’s where the announcers are key:

The heel announcer needs to talk about how Swag is getting his ass handed to him by such a low level opponent. The face announcer needs to question that too, but only in the beginning.

As time goes by and Swag faces better opponents, showcase Swag completely dominating the more imposing heels. Baron Corbin gets demolished in seconds while a jobber gets some offense. Meanwhile Swag goes in there with a guy like Dolph and has a 30 minute back and forth spectacular. Swag knows when to hit that extra gear and next thing you know……KINSHASA!!!

So the heel announcer digs in about how Swag isn’t as good as advertised, the face announcer counters with the truth: Swag is an artist and an honorable competitor.

Further, showcase him as someone who despises bullies and becomes the defacto protector of every lower tier face on the roster, even defending upper tier faces when their heel counterparts take things to extremes.

So the face announcers tell the tale. As a true babyface hero, Swag knows how good he is and sees no need to pile onto a lesser opponent. There’s no need to dominate them to the point of embarrassment.
Conversely, with some of the worse, more vicious heels? Swag takes it upon himself to teach them a lesson in humility. A heel announcer like Heenan would point out how self-righteous this is. After all, who is he to teach that lesson?

The truly great wrestlers, heel or face? Swag wants to test himself. He respects them too much to go full on destroyer right away *and* respects their abilities enough to avoid the mistake of overconfidence.

Basically you make him Batman. Every villain is on notice and Swag is the Sheriff of these here parts.

So after 6-7 months where the heel body count rises at the hands of Sheriff Swag …. They start to ban together. They organize and rise up against Swag en masse. No stable, just a torch-and-pitchfork alliance of EVERY HEEL ON SD. By that point they can turn New Day heel and let Woods lead the charge as the defecto manager. And I mean EVERY heel. Every last one. They’re all out to get Swag. Hell you may even have Charllote in the mix, jealous of his shine. Orton turns heel. It becomes dangerous times for Swag.

At some point they all gang up on Swag and put him in a bad way, and Styles and Zayn lead the charge to help him out but the numbers are just too great.

You build this as the centerpiece of Survivor Series, while finding a way to reunify The Shield on Raw at the same time. Swag, AJ, and Zayn will be ridiculously over at this point but the number babyfaces have dwindled due to turns and injuries trying to help the cause, leaving them down 3-4 in their SS match.

This is when you make Cena’s grand return as their partner at SS.

Only to pull a Hogan and lay out our heroes.

Game. Set. Match.
Survivor Series is suddenly a fire ppv.
Cena gains new life as a heel.

Swag and AJ are megastars, Zayn possibly/hopefully on their heels. Perhaps Dolph sees the error of his ways and flips to help them out in the aftermath.

IMO SD would be a white hot show at this point, not just "a better executed pro wrestling show than Raw" as it is today.

I love this and stuff like this.

It takes moving a mountain to get WWE to do stuff like this, but every now and then they do something resembling a fantasy booking thing and it tends to be glorious (usually followed by something terrible, unfortunate, or both).

Even if they did the swag stuff without great announcing, this could be great. Even if they did it without Cena doing the 'nWo Hogan' turn on return, this would be fun stuff. M

AYBE just MAYBE they can do this or something like it and have some fun with Jern before he heads out for good. MAYBE just MAYBE they'll see the value in doing it after Jern takes the whole summer off and bizness is fine enough.

>It would require disciplined announcing so we all know this

>completely dominating the more imposing heels. Baron Corbin
>gets demolished in seconds while a jobber gets some offense.
>Meanwhile Swag goes in there with a guy like Dolph and has a
>30 minute back and forth spectacular. Swag knows when to hit
>that extra gear and next thing you know……KINSHASA!!!
>
>So the heel announcer digs in about how Swag isn’t as good

for Jibble's neck right now.

Basrutten already made his feelings on Jibble crystal clear a few weeks ago and made an invitation. Now Pat Miletech is requesting a lil chat with “Johnny” for “strong arming” Mauro.

I wonder if Jibble had any idea that Mauro had so many real-deal fighting tough guys for friends.

Personally I think if JBL simply acknowledged that he’s overstepped some lines and apologized and said hey, I’m a product of a bygone era and should probably reevaluate my ways, this would probably die down.

So far all he’s done is double down with his comments on Justin Roberts and deny an allegation that, to my knowledge, was never made directly at him in stealing Roberts’ passport and pull a tweet & delete with Mauro after lambasting him over his award.

He may want to consider an “I’ve seen the error of my ways” apology to Mauro though lmao because Mauro seems to have friends who either care for him deeply or, at a minimum, enjoy the prospect of using JBL as a guilt-free punching bag nobody would care to see catch a fade.

so doubling down has zero consequences here unfortunately. It seems like non-dirt sheet sites won't really go into this much either (for instance, Coach was trying to run defense for him on twitter) so I don't expect the scrutiny to increase, but it absolutely should given their Be A Star stuff.

Technically his tweet was correct cause he claimed that that HE never stole the passport. The thing is it's already been reported that he was trying to make younger guys do it for him. You literally have to believe a dozen people are liars to believe that JBL is just one of the normal ribbers.

It may be that someone tweeted and asked him directly if he took it but my point is that to my knowledge Justin Roberts never said that it was JBL who stole it, just that it was stolen.

Yep in fact there's also a Matt Hardy shoot where Matt says JBL asked, in a roundabout way, for Matt and Jeff to break off toothpicks in Cyrus's car so he couldn't get his gear and couldn't get to his arena. He asked on some "suppose you did this thing with these toothpicks, suppose he couldn't change, get his stuff, or make it to the arena, I imagine Taker and myself would be very happy with you".

Matt said they did enough to get in his graces and JBL left them alone after that.

Whatever mystique he has left will be fully extinguished at that point.

I personally hope the whole "House of Horrors" thing ends up being a swerve in some way, because there's pretty much no way it doesn't end up super hokey a la the lame-ass bug projections at Mania. (See also: Chamber of Horrors from Halloween Havoc '91, the "Tower of Doom" and basically any other horror-themed gimmick match in history.)

My fantasy booking is Bray comes out wearing a sheet with eyeholes cut out or something intentionally cheesy, Orton laughs, Bray hits him with a fireball and pins him with Sister Abigail in like 20 seconds. Then you have the Smackdown title on Raw, which could be interesting and maybe useful for both brands, considering the Universal title is apparently in deep freeze with Brock holding it. You could have Shane and/or Daniel Bryan sending guys to Raw to try to win it back.

It's the only way I see Bray having any chance of getting his heat back. So of course it won't happen.

Like if Bray wins, he returns to Smackdown and Orton subsequently heads to RAW. I really doubt that will happen but it would be a great swerve.

I'm really disappointed Bray and Miz are on RAW. I had Miz pegged as Heavyweight champ on Smackdown this year but neither he or Bray stand a chance in holding the Universal title on a roster with Brock, Seth, Roman and Finn.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2704187-dash-wilder-reportedly-suffered-jaw-injury-expected-to-be-out-until-early-july

Dash Wilder suffered a broken jaw at an NXT live event, WWE announced Monday.

Pro Wrestling Sheet's Ryan Satin reported Wilder might be out until early July.

According to the Internet Wrestling Database, Wilder last wrestled Friday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He teamed with Scott Dawson in a loss to Hideo Itami and Shinsuke Nakamura.

"On Friday night, following an in-ring injury to the right side of his jaw, we sent to the ER for a cat scan," Dr. Jeff Westerfield said in an interview with WWE.com. "The test came back showing a jaw fracture. As a result, he will be getting his jaw wired, and we are looking forward to him being back on the main roster in about eight weeks."

Details seem a bit hazy, but is this ANOTHER botched Kinshasa? First Joe's jaw, then Aries' eye and now Wilder's jaw?

I'm a big Shinsuke mark, but this has got to be reined in...

Both times these two have met on Raw the crowd has gone completely insane over it. This program would be white-hot all by itself.

I genuinely like Reigns but Show/Braun is the program right now. I’m betting they can run this match week after week and Raw crowds would eat it up. Branding Braun as a Monster Among Men is perfect. Having Braun get up painfully before raising his arms in victory was perfect.

If they ran this next week with Show getting a win, and the following week with Show getting a win, the crowd would be the exact same both times.

This is the program to push right now. Reigns/Strowman should have waited a few more months.

It has to be done right and the chemistry between these two is perfect. A year ago on paper I would have dreaded a matchup like this but they've absolutely destroyed those preconceptions.

I wouldn't do a year of this or anything but push it hard & hot for two, three months and let them have an altercation here and there going forward?

Yeah sign me up.

Sure, he’s been treated like an absolutely joke for years and this is ridiculously weird and way out of left field.

Sure, his body looks like he came dressed to attend and win a “thick, veiny cock costume contest” equivalent of an ugly sweater party.
But it’s whatever.

The title picture has been filled with head scratching nonsense since AJ dropped the title to Cena anyways and pulled out every puzzling move in the book short of having Vince come out and let us know that the only two reasons any of this is happening are “Because I can” and “Fuck it, that’s why!”.

At least it’s someone new.

I have zero faith in WWE to do much of anything compelling, much less competent, in terms of their creative choices, and they’ve done a fine job of feeding that cynicism. At least this makes me go “hmm.” For a minute. It’s logically indefensible but I’m just going to roll with this one.

So I’ll just wait and see where they take it and hope for a pleasant surprise. Reports are that Corbin is slated for that top heel spot come summer. KO doing this New Face Of America character isn’t a world beater but could wind up as a nice iteration of Cena’s open challenge. They’ve wisely kept Swag on a slow burn. The switch to the Colons for Primo & Epico gives me slight hope Carlito returns and we get a nice mid card faction with Carlito leading the, uh, way, lol.

So SD has some intrigue on the horizon. It’s odd to see them put on such an oddly anticlimactic show like this right after Mania but from what I’ve read they do have some plans for SS so it does make some sense to go into a building mode before it’s time to ramp up.

swipe:

WWE has hired Sheetesh Srivastava as Vice President and GM of WWE India. "India is key to the global growth of WWE, and we are confident Sheetesh will successfully help develop our brand and business in this critically important country. WWE is committed to expanding its presence in India, and we are pleased to welcome Sheetesh to further our efforts in the market."

I'm wondering if his push has anything to do with that.

Remember when R Truth main evented a PPV against Cena? Or When Bob Holly main evented the Royal Rumble vs Brock Lesnar?

I have no real interest in Jinder as a main eventer and don't think he'll be there long, but I'm all for new title matches and stories, especially in these meaningless PPVs. Instead of Orton vs Bray for the 50th time we just get Orton beating someone else who gets great heat as a heel.

Sure I'd rather them push 20 other people, but since this is clearly just a time killer and something new so I'm fine with it as a short term shake up.

they had a chance to give him a massive push coming out of the shield breakup but he lost every major feud and it killed him. That being said, he's gotten a major push since then with plenty of mic time to make it work and it just hasn't. The "lunatic fringe" thing has never really resonated and he's also a little skinny with not the greatest moveset. His promos are the same "I fight and I claw and get knocked down but I get back up." speech and his look just sucks. I think he looks out of place when he's in the ring with other main event talent. Watch the stone cold podcast with him. Seems like he has a habit of a getting in his comfort zone and not really pushing himself.
