"New lawsuit: 52 (!!) acts of rape in four years at Baylor."

lol @ Kendal Briles's "Do you like white women?" sales pitch. Good grief.

Also, if they can prove in court that the university paid a woman to cover up her rape... if that's not death penalty-worthy, then what is?

http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/new-lawsuit-alleges-52-acts-of-rape-by-31-baylor-players-sex-used-to-sell-recruits/

New lawsuit alleges 52 'acts of rape' by 31 Baylor players, sex used to sell recruits
The allegations span 2011 to 2014 and include a significant number of incidents

A new lawsuit against Baylor over Title IX violations and negligence was filed by a former student Friday. The lawsuit, as first reported by the Dallas Morning News but since obtained by CBS Sports, makes some serious claims against the school, allegations that make the culture at Baylor look even worse than it did before, hard as that might be to believe.

The lawsuit alleges that there were 52 "acts of rape" committed by 31 different Baylor football players from 2011-14. The woman who filed the lawsuit, identified as Elizabeth Doe, says she was raped by two Baylor football players in 2013, who were both named suspects in the incident but never charged by police.

Doe accuses former Baylor players Tre'Von Armstead and Shamycheal Chatman of gang-raping her following a party on April 18, 2013. Doe also claims that Chatman had been accused of rape before by a student-athletic trainer at the school. In the lawsuit, Doe says the school did not intervene following the rape, instead moving the trainer to one of the school's women's teams and offering to "pay for her education in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement."

The lawsuit also includes details about the win-first culture within the program as Doe claims that the school had a policy she describes as "show 'em a good time" that used sex to sell the Bears football program to recruits.

According to the lawsuit, Baylor coaches "arranged for women to have sex with recruits on their official campus visits," with one player acknowledging that coaches once "sent two women from the Baylor Bruins program to his hotel room and the room of another recruit to engage in sex with the two men." The Baylor Bruins are a hostess program in which attractive female students escort recruits and their families during their visits to campus. The lawsuit says these women were "at times used to engage in sexual acts with the recruits to help secure the recruits' commitment to Baylor."

The lawsuit also alleges that players arranged for "women, alcohol and illegal drugs" to be present at off-campus parties while entertaining recruits, noting that such parties "repeatedly resulted in gang rape of women by the athletes." Players allegedly paid for and escorted "underage recruits to bars and strip clubs" as well.

Furthermore, former assistant coach Kendall Briles is alleged to have said the following to a prospect from Dallas: "Do you like white women? Because we have a lot of them at Baylor and they love football players." Briles has since left to become the offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic.

Among the 52 acts of rape alleged in the lawsuit were five gang rapes with two of those five consisting of 10 or more Baylor football players at one time. Some of those incidents were recorded with video shared with teammates.

"We have been working with Baylor on these football cases since the start of this and though we have appreciated their efforts to fix the problems, this is one that needed to be filed," John Clune, the plaintiffs' lawyer, told CBS Sports. "As hard as the events at Baylor have been for people to hear, what went on there was much worse than has been reported. We do still appreciate the progress that Baylor has made and know that the school will be a better place when this case is over."

Baylor spokeswoman Tonya Lewis said the university declined to comment on the lawsuit.

this is why dealing with these issues is bigger than one-on-one locker room conversations. it's a problem from the top down and has to be addressed at every level.

Let's see what happens in this case. Shit is disgusting and if we're being honest, it's a culture that pervades a lot of college sports recruitment.

The legal process will push her up to her limit, I'm sure. But, I hope the woman gets a real sense of justice from her suit.

Teams offering sex to recruits doesn't seem new. I'm sure that's gone on for the history of college athletics. But the dismissal by the athletic department at the sexual assault is truly frightening.

On a side note, it's really sad to me that a school which strives to uphold Christian values not only bred a culture which didn't protect the lives of the women involved, but has shown very little moral fiber and interest to root out the source of the problem

Shameful.

but for it to be going down like this at most football programs? I dunno.

the commonality between baylor and PSU is that they're insular communities in the middle of fucking nowhere and the press and police dept can be easily controlled/manipulated. that shit isn't going to fly at more high profile schools with a greater media spotlight and a community that isn't batshit insane. or at least I'd hope not. maybe I'm naive.

Tuscaloosa, Eugene, South Bend, Ann Arbor, Lincoln, Auburn, Athens, most SEC schools/towns and a lot of other college towns would easily fall under the description above.

from civil court filings today that detailed the reaction to Briles' termination:

"In early June, four major donors specifically asked the regents to detail the evidence from the Pepper Hamilton report that led to the board's recommendation to fire Briles.

"The regents in attendance declined to disclose details, due to confidentiality laws, but reiterated that keeping the same leadership would not uphold the mission of the university.

"One of the donors stated very clearly, 'If you mention Baylor's mission one more time, I'm going to throw up. I was promised a national championship.'"

Not sure if it's better to be honest about how morally bankrupt you are or to cover up your moral bankruptcy with empty platitudes like nearly everyone else.

But at least it's honest! So... that's... something?

their biggest claim to fame during the briles era is that they covered a lot of 5 td spreads against non-power 5 schools.

not exactly worth all the raping, IMO.

Colin Shillinglaw, his "football operations assistant/sexual assault lieutenant", is still suing the university for defamation -- and he just got fucking obliterated by Baylor's lawyers in a preliminary court filing. that's where all these Briles texts came from.

Briles realized Pepper Hamilton still has nuclear launch codes he can use at any time. had Briles followed through (like this dumbass Shillinglaw), it would've been page after page of damning information against him, with his defense being..."uh, I don't remember that."

Fucking outrageous. As the father of a young woman whose about to go to college, I'd tear that place down if my daughter was victimized there or anywhere else for that matter.

The parents of those students need to file a class action lawsuit and bankrupt the entire fucking Baylor system. It incenses me that people can be sexually violated and not one person in power really does anything about to provide justice.

She was tone deaf and completely ignorant. But that seems to be the way they act at Baylor.

Baylor's Kim Mulkey: Felt horrible for 'knock them in the face' remarks

Mechelle Voepel
espnW.com

Baylor women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey says she felt "horrible" about how remarks she made after a game Saturday were taken to mean she was not supportive of sexual assault victims or the ongoing investigation at the school.

Mulkey spoke to espnW on Sunday afternoon and said she regretted the statement, "You knock them right in the face," in regard to how to respond to people who might say they would never send their daughter to Baylor.

"I hate that I used the remark about punching them in the face," Mulkey said. "That was not literal. I was trying to make a point, to be firm in what you are saying back at them. I'm not a violent person. I apologize for the very poor choice of words."

Baylor has been dealing with a sexual assault scandal that resulted in the firing of football coach Art Briles and the resignations of university president Ken Starr, athletic director Ian McCaw and Title IX coordinator Patty Crawford. There are lawsuits pending against the school, including one that alleges 52 rapes were committed by 31 members of the Baylor football team.

Mulkey said her postgame comments were made in response to remarks she has heard suggesting parents should not send their daughters to Baylor. She said that "cut straight into me," since her daughter, Makenzie Fuller, attended Baylor and now works for her with the women's basketball team. Mulkey said she also thought it negatively portrayed the women who are currently at the school, including her players.

"My point was, 'Please don't paint, with a broad brush, the women at Baylor,'" Mulkey said. "I didn't think about what I was going to say. I looked at my players, and the little girls and the women who are cheering for them. And I spoke with a lot of emotion."

As for her news conference comments -- in which Mulkey said she was "tired of hearing about it" and to "move on, find another story to write" -- she said they were meant to be addressed to a specific reporter who Mulkey said had been "digging and digging" at her.

Mulkey said she did not intend for the remarks to mean that the victims should "move on."

"Not only do I sympathize with victims, I am angry about the way victims were treated at this university," Mulkey said. "It is horrible, horrible anytime someone does not take care of a victim. Even one sexual assault is too many. Nobody is dismissing what happened here. I want us to get to the bottom of it."

Baylor commissioned a report from the law firm Pepper Hamilton to investigate the university's handling of sexual violence on campus. A summary of the report was released to the public in May, and it expressed serious concerns about a culture of victim-blaming at Baylor and the school's football program being prioritized over campus safety.

"I've watched things unfold since then," Mulkey said. "I can assure you I want the truth to be out there about what happened at this university."

As for her remarks to the crowd about Baylor being the "damn best school in America," Mulkey said she thought that was probably what all coaches would say about the school they worked for.

"I'm a woman, and I recruit women to come here," said Mulkey, who has been the head coach at Baylor since the 2000-01 season and has won two NCAA titles. "I will never, ever support anybody at this university that dismisses what happens to victims or who doesn't help victims.

"But I don't think that everybody at Baylor should be put under an umbrella as all being a part of the things that happened. I can't fathom anybody not helping someone who is a victim of that type of crime. I don't condone it. My words did not express exactly what I was trying to say."
