This EPL matchday starts with mostly crap games on Saturday, before the United-Liverpool rivalry resumes on Sunday. This fixture hasn't exactly produced classics lately (see last October's tedious 0-0), but there's an interesting dynamic going into this one, as United are on the rampage with 6 wins on the bounce while Liverpool has shown signs of sputtering. With Chelsea playing at Leicester a day earlier, the Northern rivals will at least have the luxury of knowing how aggressive they will need to be. The good news for the Reds is that they could have the return of Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and Matip, who they will all need as Mourinho does seem to have found the correct formation for his team.

Took us the first 20 to find a rhythm and the Giroud goal really tilted the game...2nd half was a combination of good aggression and subsequent bounces.
English media will try to conflate Alexis's reaction of being subbed off w the ongoing contract talks...but I've seen that reaction many times before and never once seen him happy about being taken off. Media gon media though

The desire to push narrative is so blatant yet so unconnected to anything that's actually happening. I enjoyed the "CHELSEA IN CRISIS" articles after we beat them.

The intensity was there, no doubt, and the drama was present as always. But in terms of play I saw little fluidity and inventiveness (though Liverpool had some spirit, and United was very lively on the wings). Some nice moments, for sure, but this is the kind of game that makes me wish there were 90-in-30 recaps for fhe EPL Perhaps I'm just increasingly turned off by the league's hype machine, which even reasonable people like the Football Weekly guys seem to be a part of now. And it's likely my hipster side is showing on this one, I should probably watch a couple of Ligue Un games to atone for my blasphemy
