"More Melo makin melanin-less man mad (swipe)"

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18331035/george-karl-criticizes-carmelo-anthony-together-denver-nuggets

lulz at the J.R. shot, too...looks like Bron wasn't the only guy with a posse.

George Karl in new book: Carmelo Anthony 'a true conundrum'

Former Sacramento Kings coach George Karl didn't hold back in his criticism of Carmelo Anthony, writing in a book set to be released in January that the New York Knicks forward was a "true conundrum" during their time together with the Denver Nuggets.

"Carmelo was a true conundrum for me in the six years I had him," Karl wrote in "Furious George," according to an advance copy obtained by the New York Post. "He was the best offensive player I ever coached. He was also a user of people, addicted to the spotlight and very unhappy when he had to share it.

"He really lit my fuse with his low demand of himself on defense. He had no commitment to the hard, dirty work of stopping the other guy."

Karl coached Anthony from January 2005 to February 2011, when Anthony had his demand for a trade fulfilled and joined the Knicks. Karl said the trade was "a sweet release for the coach and the team, like popping a blister."

Fired by the Nuggets after the 2012-13 season, Karl served as an ESPN analyst before returning to the sideline with the Kings. An acrimonious season and a half in Sacramento ended with Karl's firing after the 2015-16 campaign. Karl, who has also coached the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Seattle SuperSonics and Milwaukee Bucks, has a career record of 1,175-824.

The coach was also critical of J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin, comparing those two, along with Anthony, to "the spoiled brats you see in junior golf and junior tennis."

Karl wrote that Smith, who is now with the Cavaliers, had "a huge sense of entitlement, a distracting posse, his eye always on the next contract and some really unbelievable shot selection."

I guess George Karl is writing the prequel for bashing Carmelo Anthony for the novels that the Zen Meister will write after his great robbery of the Dolan checkbook.

Badly underachieved in Seattle??

Come on fam. The Western Conference was a slaughterhouse. He didn't blow the doors off the league there but "badly underachieved" is complete bullshit.

How many WC teams in that era saw multiple Finals games? Now look at their rosters.

And there is a reason they don't play 5 game series in the first round anymore.

Yup. Lost as the 1 seed in '94, and then again as a heavy favorite in '95. They were set up nicely to at least make multiple finals appearances and too often imploded to lesser teams come playoff time.

Portland, Houston, and Utah. Seattle had the roster to do the same.

They played 5 for a long time....his team was the first 1 seed to lose, weren't they?

I just gave 2. 1994 and 1995.

They also lost to lower seeded team in '97 and '98, though I won't hold '98 against them because the Lakers were more talented. Probably should've been able to put up a better fight though.

1990 and 1992. Though 1990 was before Karl got to Seattle.

>Houston had Hakeem Olajuwon. Sorry, he is a lot better than
>Sean Kemp.

Seattle had Gary Payton too. They had very good talent. Houston won it with Vernon Maxwell as their 2nd best player in '94 and as a 6 seed in '95. Meanwhile Seattle had several 1 and 2 seeds, and they lost to a lower seed every time.

Payton was better than Stockton, that's why he busted his ass in the playoffs. Kemp was a beast in Seattle. They had better role players than Utah...Detlef, Hersey Hawkins, Sam Perkins.

but for George Karl to be in a position as a leader as a former coach and be years removed from Carmelo Anthony and be willing to take shots like this is a terrible look for him.

It's very sad he doesn't see that way though. Or maybe he does and is writing this book as a way to get some paychecks, which would be even sadder.

i'm not defending him. i'm asking.

because, Denver had Melo, but Melo isn't really a "LEADER" especially with his refusal to play defense. outside of Melo, they had talent in some seasons and tried to jam square pegs like Iverson into round holes to get over the hurdle, but all the pieces didn't really fit because of Melo (just my opinion).

then, you can look at his tenure in seattle, coaching my beloved Sonics. he had some really great years, but most of the teams he coached just weren't quite good enough to get over that final hump. then, when he finally had the team that WAS good enough, they had to play the 72-10 Bulls in the Finals.

i say that to say that, if i fairly evaluate his career, it seems like most of his teams achieved what i'd expect them to achieve based on talent x effort x coaching.

he was a very good coach, not a great coach.

i don't see how that trade made Denver better.

maybe there was HOPE that Gallinari and Mosgov would pan out and the draft pick would be something.

but, to make them better right away?

nah, that team lost any shot at winning games when Melo and Billups left (and Billups was *THIS CLOSE* to being completely washed already).

a relationship is a two way street.

considering melo hasn't changed to this day, i think that says something about melo, no?

to JR's credit, he finally got around teammates that held him accountable, and he became a father which usually makes you grow up to some extent. that said, JR was still JR in NYC - the same JR Karl was trying to deal with.

point being, you don't know how much he TRIED to get thru to them. if they didn't get the message that isn't NECESSARILY a failure in coaching, but it could be.

with his best players.

it's a trend and the common denominator is him.

his charge that the cause is either missing fathers and also at the same time fathers who are present but disagree with him, just serves to prove that really he doesn't know or doesn't want to admit the real commonality here.

JR Smith had one of his best seasons individually when he won Sixth Man of the Year with the Knicks. Somes reasons for him improving and winning the award was the fact Coach Woodson was able to get through to JR and some of it was a function that JR was playing well during a contract year. He time as a Knick wasn't without it's problems, but to act as if he was a complete failure as a Knick player isn't 100% accurate.

He wasn't a situational defender and open 3 point shooter,
like he was with the Cavs. JR could not score a point and
that Cavs tea could win.

UNLIKE the Cavs team, that Knick team RELIED on his production.
He was the SECOND BEST PLAYER on the team.

That was Woodson and Carmelo holding him accountable.
Melo was actually a fantastic leader.

Shit like this is why I cannot stand unintelligent
people. This is shockingly obvious to anyone who
has ever attempted to think clearly about this.

That's why he had his best year. Guys relied on
him and he delivered.

last year in Cle, he was:

a) playing for a contract

b) irrelevant and was threatened with being an NBA
Journeyman. He did his job well because of that.

from what I can tell, so he's legally free to do and say what he wants in terms of facing any ramifications from the league.

He's still wrong as well and its pretty sad he's willing to burn all those bridges, but there isn't anyway the league will do anything to him, unless he's on NBA TV that I'm not aware of, which I doubt since this book would be hustling severely backwards.

Carmelo is going to end up a sympathetic figure in
the long run, because all of this shit is going to
collapse and we'll see the light eventually. It's
too much and too dumb. He'll be fine.

But until then, I blame y'all closet white supremacists and you
stupid ass niggers who coddle them. It is your fault.

Hating Melo in any real way is so shockingly fucking stupid
and embarrassing and I blame you internet dickfaces for leaving
the door open for a Klan member like Karl to write this. There's
NO DOOR if you coons and Trumps aren't shouting out related shit
with no evidence for 15 years.

Yes, it is your fault.

In the long run, everyone is going to look at themselves
and realize you were being cumrags for hating the guy at all,
because he has done essentially nothing wrong his entire
adult life. And his bigggest "wrong" was hanging with drug
dealers at 18 who built basketball courts for him, and kept him
OUT OF trouble. So even his "bad" manages to be meaningful.

Of course, nobody paid attention because you guys can't
think your way through a game of Tetris level 1. I recognize
most of y'all are dumb, but...geez. I CAN DO a lot of smart
shit, but THIS don't require O_E noodles to solve. Just TRY
to think for yourselves, and we wouldn't have George
Karl trotting out Mein Fucking Kampf brazenly as if he's
saying some "honest" and "true" shit.

I mean, this is SO fucking stupid.

We COULD HAVE just sat back and enjoyed some of the best
offensive talent the league ever saw. Some of the very
best footwork. Among the best mid range games ever. A
dude who battles on the boards. The best Latino to ever
pick up a basketball, and a pioneer. A family man. The
whole nine yards.

INSTEAD y'all acted like you ate bad pussy followed by
a bowl of runny scrambled eggs and some Robutussin and
then blamed it on 'Melo.

"La Tierra" gonna win in the long run. He rich, an activist,
and is going to Springfield.

All y'all and Karl can eat giant dicks, (yes, bigger
than mine) seriously.

Yes, it IS you AND Karl. BOTH of y'all. Without y'all,
there is no Karl. Nobody cares if y'all don't open the
door with shit that is BARELY less fucked up for a
decade and a half.

This one on y'all. It is.

He can't be serious with that premise up there, right? Us as basketball fans having a subjective opinion on Carmelo Anthony as a basketball player isn't comparable to George Karl displaying his poor leadership skills in thinking it is wise to talk poorly about former players he coached in public fashion.

My favorite player of all-time growing up was Kendall Gill (I grew up in Illinois and my dad went to U. of Illinois so I went to a lot of those flying Illini games featuring Nick Anderson, Kendall Gill, Marcus Liberty, Kenny Battle etc..)

I'll never forget how Karl drove Gill to the brink in '96 in Seattle. Eddie Johnson couldn't stand Karl. Hell, most of his former players have horrible things to say about him.

Publishing this book is low - even for somebody w/ no integrity like Karl.

That Hornets team was classic! Gill's best years were in New Jersey - but there was something super special about that Charlotte team. The Seattle team was extraordinary as well but they never quite recovered from that 1st round loss to Denver. Loved watching Gill back in the day.

If you can bear watching that UM-UI semifinal with adult eyes...I highly recommend it.

The talent on the floor was insane. Terry Mills, Glen Rice, Loy Vaught, Rumeal Robinson , and my favorite player as a lil guy, the mercurial Sean Higgins.

Vs all those dudes you listed?

The game is beautiful.

And Karl cost the Sonics at least ONE title somewhere. Could never figure out why GP was so dedicated to him.

Crazy talent on that Michigan team. Illinois beat them 2 or 3 teams during that season, too! That was the greatest Illini team ever assembled (although the D. Will/D. Brown team that made it to the championship game was very good). There was something extra special about that era of college basketball in the late 80's to mid 90's. Nostalgic.

Dude just loves to throw people under DAT BUS

The best part is Melo didn't have to say a word. As "bad of a teammate" as he is, a RACK of former teammates said shit in his defense. Literally nobody that's played with Melo backed George Karl and his ridiculous comments.

Melo bodied him with his response to reporters:
Reporter: If you were to write a book, what would you call it?
Melo: Stay Melo. Definitely not furious! (laughs)

Fuck George Karl...and I didn't even get to the bullshit about being without a father.

It's about Karl going from a fact--at the very least, we can all acknowledge melo isn't all defense--to a sweeping, completely racist dismissal of an entire class of human, with zero regard for the hurt he casually used to sell books.

Like, I bet is was probably pretty hard to not have a dad around. I'm not sure, because my dad often times made me wish I had melo's problems instead of mine. And in my 20s, I was at least as much as an asshole as JR smith. I got arrested some, I took my career far less seriously than he did, and no one could tell me shit. If they had, I'd have far fewer regrets, but you couldn't tell me NUTTIN. And it caused problems that I had to deal with, although I'm certain I had to deal with far fewer problems than JR did, even though I'm sure I did worse shit than he did.

You know what though? No one ever said "Shelly is failing out of graduate school because white fathers hit their kids." If they did, I'd be pretty fucking pissed off, because that statement simply doesn't apply to me and in no way explains my problematic behavior. Moreover, if my dissertation advisor said that shit to me, I'd have wanted to fight him, because it was obvious that the advisor was not seeing me, coaching me as an individual, but as some stereotype in his mind. If I were someone like Kenyon Martin, who sounds like he is working his hardest to give his kids the type of father he didn't have, I'd be triply mad, because I know that no matter what good I do, people like George Karl are always going to see me as a deadbeat dad and all sorts of other things.
