"CFB Saturday 11.19: Division Title Edition"

lots of conference championship eliminators this weekend.

Thursday
(5) Louisville @ Houston

I thought Louisville would benefit the most from last weekend, but after rational thought they need even more upsets. Houston falling off really screwed them; that Clemson game became their one and only shot.

Big 12
(9) Oklahoma @ (14) West Virginia
(11) Oklahoma State @ TCU

OU can drop another game, but WVU can’t. If the Sooners lose, then beat Oklahoma State, there’ll be a three-way tie that comes down to…point differential. Which favors Oklahoma heavily (OU +123, WVU +70, Oklahoma State +62). Oh, and the Cowboys need to take care of business in Fort Worth before that.

SEC East
(16) LSU vs. (23) Florida
(18) Tennessee vs. Missouri

This drudgery is finally down to the two teams expected to take it from the start. Gators are banged up and not been playing well, but a win in Death Valley © and they’re going to Atlanta. even if Florida loses, the Vols gave up 400 rushing yards to Kentucky last week so there’s no guarantee they win out.

Pac-12 South
(10) Colorado vs. (22) Washington State
(12) Utah vs. Oregon
(13) USC vs UCLA

Although holding a one-game lead, Colorado can’t lose again -- USC holds the tiebreaker over them. Utah has already beaten USC and finish at Colorado, so they just need to win out. This is the final conference game for USC, so they root Mike Leach this week and Colorado the week after.

(2) Ohio State @ Michigan State
(6) Washington vs. Arizona State
(24) Stanford @ Cal
Wyoming vs. San Diego State
Virginia Tech @ Notre Dame

1. "DeAndre Levy: Breaking Joe Paterno's leg "my proudest moment in college""
In response to Reply # 0

Born and raised in Milwaukee, where his mother is an assistant at a medical office and his father works on the line in a steel factory, Levy was a star linebacker at Wisconsin. He was most famous for a 2006 play against Penn State, a sideline tackle that accidentally drove him into coach Joe Paterno, breaking JoePa's left leg. Ten years later, Levy now calls that incident "my proudest moment in college," as history has since revealed Happy Valley's sad secrets. "That dirtbag, man," says Levy of Paterno, who was recently implicated as being aware of child sexual abuse committed by his assistant Jerry Sandusky as early as 1976.

"We've gotta stop prioritizing sports over humanity," says Levy. "Just because somebody can throw a football or coach football, they're excluded from their wicked acts."

fumbled on the first play, receivers playing soft as hell, the o-line can't even line up right and the defense is getting shredded by a team that couldn't average four yards a play against Tulane.

Michigan St had an awesome fake punt conversion but a holding penalty and back to back lost yardage plays, they cant do anything right now.

Florida LSU is just a disaster but LSU is in the red zone.

shotgun with no play-action threat? backers and safeties dropped into coverage at the snap. then you're betting on less talented receivers to get open, and for O'Connor to drop in a perfect pass.

that cannot have been their best two-yard play.

41. "With Texas struggling against Kansas, Herman's hire is a matter of time"
In response to Reply # 22

It's jacked up because Charlie has turned the program around since Mack was there and from what most folks said there wasn't any talent before String took over.

If Charlie is let go, he gave it an honest effort and whatever school hires him is going to get a great coach. Texas seems like you have to be a schmoozer in order to pacify the boosters, which Charlie doesn't strike me to be.

If he goes to a school that has somewhat sane boosters who leave Charlie the keys to the program and walk away, he'll be really successful.

Here's a link to an article describing the change of mind of Texas' boosters.

Brett McMurphy
College football reporter

Texas' administration is receiving "extreme pressure" from prominent boosters to dismiss Charlie Strong and hire Houston coach Tom Herman, sources told ESPN.

Earlier this week, Strong's job was considered safe if the Longhorns (5-5) won out against Kansas and TCU. However, that all changed when Houston upset No. 5 Louisville Thursday, sources said.

That was because in October the lure of Herman, always considered Texas' No. 1 target, had dulled with losses to Navy and SMU and near losses to Tulsa and UCF. The SMU loss was extremely troubling to UT's boosters because it was to a perceived "lesser school" in the state, sources said.

That all changed with Herman improving to 22-3 at Houston by dominating Louisville.

After that win, the bidding war for Herman is expected to start "at a minimum of $5.5 million," an industry source said.

Herman is considered among the leading candidates at Texas and LSU, if Jimbo Fisher remains at Florida State, as well as Oregon, if the Ducks fire Mark Helfrich, sources said. Herman also would be a top target of Florida State, if Fisher left for LSU, a source said.

Another concern of Texas' top boosters is the possibility Texas A&M decides to part ways with Kevin Sumlin for the opportunity to grab Herman, sources said.

"Herman was dead in the water (with Texas) when he lost to SMU (Oct. 22)," a source said. "And now he's hotter than ever."

Herman was Ohio State's offensive coordinator before being named Houston's coach. He's won 22 of 25 games, including all five contests as an underdog against Oklahoma and Louisville this season and Louisville, Navy and Florida State in 2015.

Texas president Greg Fenves and athletic director Mike Perrin have been consistent and very outspoken about their support of Strong. In October, sources told ESPN Strong would not be fired in-season and be allowed to complete the season.

If Strong, who is in the third year of a five-year deal, is fired, he would receive a $10 million buyout.

Kansas hasn't beat Texas since 1938! Kansas hasn't beaten Texas since before WWII and a man has walked on the moon since the last time Kansas beat Texas.

Let me put it this way. If Strong were coaching at OSU with a similar win/loss record and you just lost to a terrible Purdue team would you be preaching patience?

Oregon and Cal are two of the worse defenses in the PAC 12 and the nation and that Utah offense couldn't score against them.

If WSU beats Colorado that puts USC back in the drivers seat for the PAC 12 south.

I kind of have a feeling WSU wins this game and Utah beats Colorado

wonder if USC makes the P12C and wins, do they get voted in to the playoff?

guess it depends if Indiana beats Michigan and Michigan beats OSU.

Colorado just took the lead, WSU is struggling to stop the Colorado QB scarambkes and designed runs.

WSU has also been sloppy with a lot of dropped passes.

I'm rooting for WSU to win today and win the PAC 12 north.

The team is impressive on offense and the defense plays well enough to stay competitive, but too many poorly timed turnovers and mental lapses kept our record down this year.

In fairness, Odom managed to turn the offense around and despite some poor recruiting choices, he's managed to keep the defense playing reasonably well. It is his first year and it's likely that the scope of his role of Head Coach is massively larger than his role as a DC and he's struggling keeping everyone, coaches and players, on task.

Hopefully, next year he's able to get the team to focus on the details while keeping their overall performance at a high level.

But it is disappointing because there was potential for a better year, but the team kept shooting itself in the foot most games.

roughing the punter on 4th down, led to OU touchdown.

you figure at minimum, the above plays were a 27-point swing. lost by 21.

Vols can't be mad at LSU when all they had to do was beat South Carolina to take the East.

although it's a bad look not to win this putrid division, I'll remember the wins over Florida and Georgia. and with even more defensive injuries (Vols gave up 740 yards to Missouri, and now are down four defensive tackles) they would've had no chance against bama.
