that's such a brutal and capricious injury. you don't really have to be doing anything out of the ordinary or strenuous. it's still a long ass rehab but at least it's not an athletic death sentence like it used to be back in the day.

There are numerous aberrant patterns in your lower kinetic chain that can lead to excessive Achilles loading (very often with no symptoms, hence capricious as you said)...eventually the strength threshold of the Achilles gets to the point where a relatively normal movement breaks the camel's back.
