"No College Football Saturday Post?"

I'm sure other games are happening today too, but all that matters right now is the renewal of Pitt vs Penn State, 16 years after the last game.

Wish I was there, but I wasn't paying $200 to go see Pitt, I didn't get money by being that stupid.

They ran that story on his cancer recovery today and seemed like it was the first time they heard it.

The guy was ACC player of the year 2 seasons ago

The same Howard Bison that won 1 game last year and was throttled by Maryland last week

Indiana State and Minnesota are tied 7-7, Minnesota driving for go ahead score

By the way, what happened to the Big Ten not being allowed to play I-AA/FCS teams?

Maybe they are just working them out of the schedule from a game agreed upon much earlier?

Such a delusional fan base. The biggest difference between Pitt and PSU is we know who we are. We can both be having dinner at TGIFridays but Penn State will pretend their steak is top notch.

OUR STATE

last time NC State was in Greenville, Russell Wilson was getting fucked up by the Pirates and throwing interceptions left and right. Wolfpack talked about how ECU circles the calendar for this game but it's business as usual for them -- uh, yall lost three in a row against us.

I wasn't down with Ruffin McNeill being fired, but I am on board with Scottie Montgomery. great things ahead for the Pirates.

"A misenforced penalty gave Central Michigan a last gasp"

They flung the ball down the field from the 50, caught at the 10, lateral back, run around to the sideline. Game.

Shouldn't have had that chance in the first place because the game should've ended. Someone is getting reprimanded.

On the other hand, shouldn't come down to that when you're ranked number 22 playing Directional Michigan.

What real coaches are going to be available next season?

I can't fathom keeping this bum around and I'm mad he got to stick around after punting away his candidacy in the Oregon game last year.

Fuck this program right now.

If Houston gets left out of the playoff, USC's best bet is to back the brinks truck up and pay Tom Herman. His resume speaks for itself.

Dude is a nobody from the staff of a drunk embarrassment Carroll tree dud.

He gave up the rights to this job with that punt last year but really there was no reason to even consider him for this job.

He was a worse choice than Ed O would have been a couple years prior.

The program has been mediocre for two reasons: sanctions and shitty leadership.

The first is over and so is the second the moment you get a half decent coach into Heritage Hall.

but the admin doesn't think so and they went all in with this guy so i really don't think a shellacking by bama is gonna put him on the curb after 1 season.

sc clearly doesn't want to or is unable put the money up to bring in an elite coach. i guess outright laziness could also be a factor in their hiring process. but the idea that they're gonna outbid LSU and Texas for a guy like Herman is just not in line with the realities of their hiring history.

they keep making old-ass, unimaginative Trojan legends the athletic directors who just get paid then keep it in the family.

Has zero to do with money, they set fire to loot over there regularly.

And as Will stated, they completely overpaid this placeholder bum they hired, plus will be still paying him when he's gone like those before him.

Honestly, you don't even need a great coach over there, just a relatively decent one.

Lane fucking Kiffin looks like a decent coach compared to what's followed...that tells you all you need to know.

Pat Haden was the highest paid athletic director in the country while being one of the worst I've ever seen.

He gave Lane 8 mill of SC money to go away mid-season.

Ed O was a million-dollar-plus assistant who went to LSU for half that much because he was mad Haden didn't get the job permanently post-Lane.

Haden had a year to come up with a name but was too busy attending brunches, talking on the radio about some student-athlete bullshit, cowering to the NCAA, being an old-fuddy-duddy politician running PR games while talking about sporting achievements no one else gave a fuck about like women's volleyball and after a year long coaching search that included burning more alumni money on various search firms he hired Steve fucking Sarkisian which meant Washington got to upgrade their head coaching slot with a guy USC could have hired easily if Haden had a shred of vision at all.

They still will likely end up paying Sark 13 million just to not be drunk on the sideline screaming on people with Vodka breath like an old Morton Downey Junior episode...meanwhile he was lampshade-drunk at the booster-club dinner *before* the season started and everyone knew he was a mess.

This bum they got now is like the afterbirth of all that bullshit.

there definitely is a weird obsession with keeping it in the fam. the 'imaginative' stuff....meh, it doesn't take a whole lot of creativity to know who the top coaching candidates are. there have been plenty of stud coaches to pick from since Carrol left. not once has SC's name been mentioned alongside any of them.

>
>Lane fucking Kiffin looks like a decent coach compared to

dude, you can't be serious. Kiffin was epically bad and just flat out toxic. his team completely quit on him. Kiffin took a preseason #1 team and ran them into the ground and out of the polls entirely. he's calling plays for the most talented program in the country and because of this people seem to have forgotten the past.

Orgeron would've been a junk hire too.

Again, I don't disagree with you...Helton was a terrible hire. But it seems unfair to make him the sacrificial lamb for getting their shit kicked in by a team they never should've scheduled in the first place. Had SC scheduled their usual bullshit west coast patsy to open the season we wouldn't be having this convo. When was the last time SC left the west coast to play a legit OOC game? Auburn 2003? They weren't ready for this.

I will say it's interesting now to see some of the top LA kids signing with OOS schools. OSU brought in 2 top recruits from LA which has never happened in the past. Keyshawn's son signed with Nebraska. At the very least Kiffin and Sark seemed to keep most of the LA kids at home.

I guess I haven't been here in awhile but this is what I've been shouting since before last season ended on twitter, ask guru.

This is not about Bama.

And I have no problem with them scheduling that game.

USC schedules real out-of-conference games.

They've never been embarrassed like that in my lifetime.

And being so should be helpful to any Trojan alums for telling you where they're at.

Had SC scheduled their usual
>bullshit west coast patsy to open the season we wouldn't be
>having this convo. When was the last time SC left the west
>coast to play a legit OOC game? Auburn 2003? They weren't
>ready for this.

huh? they do so every year, scaled back to more of a BC/Syracuse thing in the past couple years while digging out of sanctions but they've been doing it my whole life.

Beat Arkansas like a drum when they were undefeated in conference with McFadden/Felix/Hillis & them.

VA Tech.

Beat Ohio State in Columbus with a true freshman QB like six years after that destruction of Auburn.

They are home-and-home with at least one Big 10 team and Notre Dame basically every year.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about with that.

They don't play D-IA schools from Ohio out of conference.
>
>I will say it's interesting now to see some of the top LA kids

That's because they have one of the three best coaches in the game and SC is down.

>Keyshawn's son signed
>with Nebraska.

Because Key knows the Trojans are on some bullshit right now.

And his son probably doesn't want to have to go outrun the legacy of one of its greatest players while staying in LA for college while he's lived there his whole life so far.

At the very least Kiffin and Sark seemed to
>keep most of the LA kids at home.
>
Nah, both lost some good kids particularly to Oregon but elsewhere, particularly when they didn't have the scholarships to give.

I'm not worried about USC's ability to recruit, at home or nationally.

I'm worried they don't seem to learn from their mistakes, hire a real Athletic Director or get a coach in here that has any fucking idea what he's doing.

And I am waiting for this current bum to be out of here like a slow death, I hated the Sark hire before that too.

At least Sark's excuse is that he was an alcoholic. What's kiffin's excuse? LOL.

>And I have no problem with them scheduling that game.

>They've never been embarrassed like that in my lifetime.

>And being so should be helpful to any Trojan alums for telling

The've been at the same spot since Carrol left, which is my point. Had Kiffin or Sark had to square off against bama in week 1 they would've gotten their cranium's cracked just the same. BC and Cuse are crap opponents....and shit, they did drop the game at BC as 17 point favorites (and let BC run for 450 yards). I also remember them struggling with Syracuse at Giants stadium as 30+ point favorites.

>Beat Arkansas like a drum when they were undefeated in
>conference with McFadden/Felix/Hillis & them.

weren't ranked when SC played them.

>VA Tech.

Weren't ranked either.

>Beat Ohio State in Columbus with a true freshman QB like six
>years after that destruction of Auburn.

Totally forgot about this one because I'm an idiot.

But we're getting off topic (my fault for not explaining properly) so let me amend my point.

Since the Carrol era they've played no OOC teams of any consequence either in regular season or in bowl games. ND is an annual rivalry so I'm not counting that. The furthest SC has traveled for a bowl game was to El Paso where they embarrassed themselves on and off the field and on social media. SC faced two mediocre big 10 teams in their own backyard and were pushed around in both games...lost to Wisky and barely escaped a coach-less Nebraska team.

My point wasn't to knock SC's scheduling aggressiveness...I really don't care about that. Simply trying to say that SC's level of play hasn't really sunken to any type of new low under Helton. They're the same soft, gutless, overhyped and overly entitled diva's who pout and lay down when shit doesn't go there way. They're not nearly as talented as people make them out to be (did you hear Chris Fowler during the bama game state that SC was one of the only teams who could match bama's talent level?). Yet, I expect them to compete within the conference just the same as they have in the post-carrol era.

>
>Because Key knows the Trojans are on some bullshit right now.

yes, exactly.

>Nah, both lost some good kids particularly to Oregon but

I know they lost D'anthony which kind've made sense given how well he fit into Oregon's offense at the time. I think there was also an issue of him needing to get out of LA. I don't recall any other pattern of big losses.

I can only say that as an OSU fan...going into LA and grabbing the nation's best offensive guard and slot WR is pretty much unprecedented. And those two guys weren't even considering SC. One of the nations best defensive backs, Darnay Holmes, out of Calabasas isn't considering SC either. I think nebraska is the favorite to land him. To me this type of shit is really ominous...or at the very least that Helton is a shit recruiter.

part of why I'm happy they scheduled that game...these old fools gotta learn on some "if you don't know, now you know" Biggie shit for any these old money dummies thinking you can win games off a name.

I've been acutely aware of this bullshit for four years now and am now beyond tired of it...this program isn't supposed to be the one I have to worry about or anticipate getting smoked when they play...I've got all my Philly pro teams for that.

Dawg, it's college sports, if you travel 3000 miles, switch time zones and play major conference teams on the road in front of 80,000 people while being expected to win, it's a tough game.

There's a reason other West Coast teams rarely do it and vice versa really.

It made sense not to schedule a Bama while on sanctions playing with less than half as many scholarship players as Michigan a year or two ago.

As soon as they got off them, they went right back to it.

Right before they got on the sanctions, they played y'all.

And ND

um, they haven't been able to play in a bowl for half of those seasons and the other ones still recovering from the scholarship penalties in addition to the shitty AD & coaches.

Their best year since, they finished the season beating Oregon and then couldn't play in the postseason.

>an annual rivalry so I'm not counting that.
what other team in a real conference even has an annual rivalry against a team of that caliber?

don't worry, I'll wait.

shit, Sark even lost guys to UCLA even, it's been bad for a minute.

But yes, in the Carroll guy they got the guys they wanted and typically the guys that burned them were guys they spurned (Maurice Jones-Drew, Antoine Cason, Casey Matthews to name a few).

>I can only say that as an OSU fan...going into LA and grabbing
>the nation's best offensive guard and slot WR is pretty much

because OSU is at an unprecedented level of consistently good under one of the best coaches in the game and USC is coming off sanctions and at their most unprecedented bad point (even in the Hackett era they had more talent then they currently do including a great QB) while currently paying three bad coaches.

we're both fairly clear about both those issues...I wouldn't be happy about going to SC right now because of that, as soon as that's remedied, it's back to business.

And those two guys weren't even considering SC.

Or Nebraska is currently backing the Brinks truck up in a desperate attempt to be relevant again for the first time this century but anyway...

Helton isn't a head coach, he should never have been here.

Shit, Sark shouldn't have even been here, that's why it's like dying slow watching all of it.

I've been fighting the Fight On party-liners online for four years now online about this.

>Sark was worse, that's all I'm saying.

Sark at least demonstrated a level of *on-field* competence at UW.

Kiffin has left a dumpster fire behind him at all 3 of his head coaching stops. He has some seriously inherent mental/personality flaws.

Sark will see the same resurgence in popularity when he takes over for Kiff as Bama's OC and does an adequate job with the best talent in the country.

B1G teams do it all the time. And what about the Rose Bowl?

Can I plea cop for OSU getting their faces caved in by USC in 2008 due to time change? Or what about OSU traveling to Cal a few years back and beating their asses in?

SC was the #1 ranked 1 team and nearly 40 point favorites to a lame as fuck Cuse squad. Handle your biz. It's not like those Cuse/BC performances were aberrations in their respective seasons. Those SC squads were just not good.

>um, they haven't been able to play in a bowl for half of those

First off, why are we talking about the AD when it comes to on-field performance? I get it, they've made lame coaching hires but these dudes aren't lacing 'em up.

As for the bowl games...I'm using the sample size available to me. The bowl performances have been poor with the exception of Fresno St.(!). SC was the #1 ranked team heading into the season and were humiliated by an unranked GT squad in the El Paso bowl. Can't blame this on sanctions.

Shitty coaches are a given but we've already conceded that so I'm not sure what point/excuse you're trying to make here. Nebraska didn't even have a coach when they gave SC all they could handle.

>Their best year since, they finished the season beating Oregon
>and then couldn't play in the postseason.

Oregon is not OOC.

Are you saying that SC would've balled out that year if they played in a legit bowl game? SC barely beat Minnesota (time change and all) at home to open that year up. Oregon's charman soft overrated squad is well documented by now.

but again, this isn't about knocking USC's scheduling. USC isn't relevant enough for me to care about who they schedule.

could be awhile before it's remedied, LOL. and chances are SC will just bring in another bum from within the fam.

unless SC really implodes this year (and I see no reason to suggest they will), I don't see Helton going anywhere anytime soon. It's his first full year. SC has invested in the guy. I'm sure they like that he isn't a walking PR disaster waiting to happen. He'll get 3 years before he's potentially on the hot seat. Just my guess.

I've had to deal with both, Sark is worse as a playcaller, as a recruiter and as a coach...he's just more 'likable', that's it.

Sark sucked in Washington, he basically got a pass for being barely .500 with Locker.

beat the brakes off y'all and beat y'all in your place, OSU was not a match for USC in the Tressel era nor as an overall program historically.

Uh, yeah, we are...because they hire the bad coaches and in Haden's case did so twice while also giving up and giving away the store playing nice-guy political PR with the NCAA and pretending that other sports matter as much as football at Southern Cal or any other place with a legacy football program, which is ridiculous.

No way will he get three years, the one silver lining is that this is Los Angeles, they've actually got NFL comp back in town and Swann didn't hire him so he's less tied to him personally.

I just wish I could hit fast-forward to that point much like this upcoming presidential election...I'm tired of watching the slow motion version of the trainwreck.

>Sark sucked in Washington, he basically got a pass for being
>barely .500 with Locker.

going from conference cellar-dweller and 2 win team to a .500 record is better than anything kiffin has on his resume as a HC. but we can agree to disagree on this one as at a certain point this becomes a debate comparing the merits of 2 special olympics participants. both of these guys were epic failures.

>Notre Dame doesn't count but the Rose Bowl does?
>
>A game the Big 10 has a month to prepare to play?

I don't even know what you're asking.

SC prepares for ND every year. Every SC coach has had to play them. Kiff/Sark never had bama (or anything close to resembling them) on the schedule...and as such never suffered such an epic beatdown. Has nothing to do with a particular brand of ineptitude specific to helton. just dumb luck that he landed the best program in all of football for his opener.

>>Can I plea cop for OSU getting their faces caved in by USC

ok cool...'time travel' is an accepted plea cop for when SC loses but nobody else. got it.

>Or what about OSU traveling to Cal a
>>few years back and beating their asses in?
>>
>I don't care about Cal...and everyone knows it's harder to go
>west to east.

LOL. west to east? ok this level of plea coppage is just all very new to me.

and you do need to care about Cal and all of the other big 10/pac teams who have scheduled home and home's because your claim was that traveling such distances for games rarely occurs. happens all the time and everyone deals with it.

>Huh? They beat Syracuse by two touchdowns...I'm supposed to
>care about a line and a preseason ranking...They weren't that
>good because they had half the allotted scholarships as other
>teams and had a shitty coach.

well you were certainly popping lots of shit heading into that season because of the preseason #1 ranking and the barkley heisman hype. all of which i accurately predicted as garbage and driven primarily from beating up on those overrated pussies in eugene.

i don't care how how many scholarship players they had on the roster that year or subsequent years...they'd still be a loser program led by loser coaches and overrated and over entitled diva players.

>Uh, yeah, we are...because they hire the bad coaches

Yeah, but you phrase it an a way as if a shitty AD is a daily contributor to the teams ineptitude. not to mention that AD's arent usually the shot callers when it comes to hiring head coaches. might want to holler at the BOT and big money donors on this one.

>you blame it on a team no longer giving a fuck because their
>season's already fallen short of expectations, who gives a
>shit about these meaningless bowl games but a few steakhead
>college football crackheads?

well first off, if the team doesn't give a fuck about their bowl game then there's your biggest problem. and why the culture at sc needs to be torn down and rebuilt. don't know about falling short of expectations since these group of players haven't experienced a lick of success and the program hasn't been to the rose since 2008. and I've seen them sleepwalk and lose plenty of regular season games so I'm not gonna blame this all on the 'meaningless' postseason.

regardless, as a proud cfb steakhead/crackhead...I watched the sc/wisky bowl game last year and both teams played their asses off. sc just got beat and pushed around by a better and more physical team. no excuses.

>No way will he get three years, the one silver lining is that
>this is Los Angeles, they've actually got NFL comp back in

>personally.

I think he'll get this year and next. just a guess. we'll see.

Our starting QB completed more passes to Florida (3) than he did to his own receivers (2 for 10 yards).

We have to pay Stoops $12 million if we fire him.

Thank God for John Calipari, World Wide Wes, and the months of November - April.

they should be up by two touchdowns more if not for some flukes. just like they really should have put nd away without needing overtime.

o-line hasn't been healthy yet, and if those guys don't get healthy, the reserves playing now will benefit from the experience. we haven't seen anything from the young receivers yet, and even heard and burt have more in them. warren is gonna go off at some point.

i don't know about the defense. still afraid they're going to cost us a few games with collapses.

After last week I was anxious to see our supposed savior true frosh local boy Justin Herbert, but Dakota threw some dimes last night and he's clearly improving with each series. I hope this young OL can follow a similar trajectory.

The Hoke experiment seems to be going mostly positively. The fundamentals appear to be improved - but the run defense is a big work in progress right now.

We'll learn something Saturday in Lincoln.

As opposed to running a program (or even an offense), which...isnt in his wheelhouse.

If he is coaching the D-Line himself, that will probably be one of your stronger units on either side.
