""Melo will never win an NBA title" - HOF Compiler Jim Boeheim"

Jimmy and his pleas need to go ahead. Seems like he does this every year. Probably should've focused as much time on teaching MCW how to shoot.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/17378127/carmelo-anthony-new-york-knicks-unlikely-win-nba-title-according-college-coach-jim-boeheim

Jim Boeheim, Syracuse coach, says Carmelo Anthony unlikely to be champ

Carmelo Anthony made men's Olympic basketball history on Sunday when he won his third gold medal. Two days later, Anthony's college coach offered a sobering prediction for the remainder of the veteran's NBA career.

"He's unlikely to win an NBA title,'' Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said, according to the Syracuse Post-Standard. "He's never been on a team that even had a remote chance of winning an NBA title. As a player, all you can do is try to make your team better, and every team he's been on he's made them a lot better. Denver hadn't done anything prior to him getting there and he took them into the playoffs. They weren't going to beat the Lakers or the Spurs. In those years, they won the championship most of the time."

Anthony, 32, made the playoffs in each of the first 10 seasons of his career. But he has advanced past the first round just twice. Anthony's New York Knicks have missed the postseason for the past three years.

"He wants to win in New York," Boeheim said. "I know the general opinion is if Noah and Rose are healthy then they'll be a better team. It's just a question of if they will be healthy. They've been off and on the last two years. They've both been hurt. I think if both those guys are healthy, it certainly would make a big difference and Porzingis continuing to progress. If those things happen, they can be better.''

Jim Boeheim coached Carmelo Anthony to an NCAA title at Syracuse, but the veteran college coach says Melo is unlikely to be a champion in the NBA. AP Photo/Al Goldis

Anthony won an NCAA championship under Boeheim at Syracuse. The veteran college coach has said several times that Anthony would have given himself the best chance to win a title if he had signed with the Chicago Bulls as a free agent in the summer of 2014 rather than re-signing with the Knicks.

Anthony has said several times over the past few seasons that he's driven by the idea of winning a title in New York. The Knicks last won a championship in 1972-73.

Anthony also recently told ESPN's Marc Stein that if his career ends without an NBA title, he'd still be proud of his accomplishments, which include the NCAA title and three Olympic gold medals.

"Most athletes don't have an opportunity to say that they won a gold medal, better yet three gold medals," Anthony said. "I would be very happy walking away from the game knowing that I've given the game everything I have, knowing I played on a high level at every level: high school, college, won in college and possibly three gold medals.

"I can look back on it when my career is over -- if I don't have an NBA championship ring -- and say I had a great career."

simply because of the additions of Rose and Noah.

You're saying you actually want Carmelo Anthony to win outside of Rose and Noah's presence? That's pretty wild if true, given the history between both franchises and the fact Carmelo snubbed your franchise as well during his mini free agency tour.

I wished Rose and Noah well. Hope they have healthy seasons.
But until those comments, I really didn't want the Knicks to win anything. Ever.

I still kinda don't, but I like Melo.
I think he's capable of becoming a champion.

My mistake.

It appears you have a greater appreciation for Carmelo's game than I do if you're willing to root for the Knicks strictly on his behalf given your Bulls fandom.

Interesting.

You think the guy who coached Karl Malone when he was a Southern Louisiana Gatorskin was copping pleas during the middle of his HOF career?

Just two or three days after Carmelo helped Jim Boeheim get an Olympic gold medal, Jim shows his gratitude by dumping on Carmelo's future career? In public at that?

**addendum edit**

If the coaching staff don't get Olympic medals along with the players, I'll eat my words and admit I was wrong with my argument.

His Olympic experience and the upcoming season. I'm sure a Melo question came up. Him and Melo have always been cool and Melo has been a huge supporter of the program. the practice facility is named after him. It's just Boeheim being blunt like usual, but he wasn't shitting on Melo.

and now someone that was on actually sidelines ducking those Zika bugs in Rio decides to Debbie Downer that gold medal hanging from Carmelo's neck?

I'd love to know what Carmelo Anthony's first thought was the instant he heard what Jim Boehiem decided to mention publicly for the world to read.

This is what's wrong with sports journalism

We don't blame the right people

There is an allegedly skilled person whose job it is to
cover sports for a supposedly reputable corporation. They
are doing an awful job.

So why not go in on him/her?

Melo don't have to plea or answer to anybody.

And he certainly don't need to keep justifying his career.

Just hoop.
