When they upped the offer to $40M, it was a sign they wanted to keep him. I bet they sign him 2/$52M.

In response to Reply # 0

Should all go as planned with Durant and center Zaza Pachulia, who agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million deal, when the NBA moratorium ends Thursday, the Warriors will have 11 players and will have to fill out the final few roster spots with minimum contracts.

Those in the running might be conveniently separated into three categories: veterans, returners and summer-league players.

The list of experienced players who might be willing to play for comparative peanuts in exchange for a chance to chase a championship is headlined by Ray Allen. The Warriors also have taken the temperatures on point guard Mario Chalmers and center Kendrick Perkins.

The Warriors have spent a portion of each of the past two years trying to land Allen. The 10-time All-Star is one of the most accurate three-point and free-throw shooters in NBA history, and the 40-year-old has stayed in shape despite sitting out since the 2013-14 season.

Among the possible returners are players from the 2015-16 squad as well as some from the more distant history. The Warriors have good relationships with guards Leandro Barbosa and Ian Clark, swingman Brandon Rush and big man Marreese Speights from last season, but all of them could command bigger deals on the frenzied free-agent market.

Center Jermaine O’Neal, who played for the Warriors in 2013-14, has shown interest in making a comeback, and big man David Lee, who played for the Warriors from 2010 through ’15, has stayed in consistent contact with his former teammates.

Lee surprised the Warriors during their March Madness watch party in Dallas and had baseline seats to an NBA Finals game last month at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors’ summer-league roster includes wings Landry Fields and Xavier Henry, rookie forward Robert Carter and center Ognjen Kuzmic.

Fields, a 6-7, 215-pound, 28-year-old who played at Stanford, had two promising seasons with New York before signing a three-year, $20 million deal with Toronto in 2012. He played just 56 games in the past three seasons while recovering from right arm and hip injuries.

Cap going up this year is double-edged sword. It allowed to sign Durant, but it makes it a lot harder to pull a Miami in 2010 and fill up the roster with guys willing to take a pay cut.

I'd REALLY like it if they could convince Barbosa and/or Speights to come back, but I doubt those guys (especially Speights, who is 28) feel like leaving major money on the table again. I'd also support bringing Lee back.

As much as I like O'Neal and Allen, the idea of bringing back players who haven't played in two seasons doesn't exactly thrill me.

I give him a 25% chance of escaping this season with his job.

Also, Nene could have been a nice addition off the bench for a contender. One year, 2.9 million. I wouldn't have minded the Celtics getting in on that.

He's gonna be so pressed to show he still has "IT".

They might even clique up too with Bron and Wade together.

How is Kyrie gonna react the 4th and 5th time, Gabrielle hints that Regina Hall wants to go out with him? Gabby gonna see them eyerolls.

Then, Gabby gonna get mad when Kyrie keeps asking if she keeps in touch with Kirsten Dunst.

Not to even mention big ole bearded Josh Baskin who is just searching for a role.

2015-16 Salaries:
Duke - $80,878,686.00
UK - $129,246,514.00

2016-17 Salaries:
Duke - $108,574,814.00
UK - $151,625,693.00

Earnings Through 2015-16:
Duke - $551,651,483.00
UK - $500,135,974.00

Total Earnings through lifetime of existing contracts:
Duke - $925,411,852.00
UK - $1,053,800,948.00

So partially right with the total earnings through 2015-16 with Brand and his 164 million.

But not telling the whole story. We beat you in 2015-16, next season. And through the lifetime of existing contracts. And will continue to do so with the frequency we put dudes in the league.

And we haven't even had anybody take advantage of the new CBA yet.

you know how this go. you wanna cut if off at this point, i wanna cut it off at that point. whatever.

the only fair way to do it is counting the total dough for every player to ever play pro ball from each school. we win, man. by a lot, too. i'm sorry if that bothers you. i'm sorry if you think mash and his injuries made him worth his contract while hill and his injuries didn't, even tho one of them was actually still productive at an ALL-STAR level after the injuries.

you don't have to be fair. the facts will always sort that stuff out.

K done seen it all...he knows what a legend looks like.

SMH...that man shaped like he wear church shoes and fubu jerseys while walking around with an AK-47. he ain't no legend.

you're about to be in here cysing fat ass antoine walker chucking threes for the heat or derek anderson riding whatever coattails he rode. you think kansas is tripping off jacques vaughn's ring? they got wilt, paul pierce, etc. UCLA? don't even get started. kentucky has a long history and is a great program, but their NBA success is a far cry from what you make it out to be.

Per Woj: "In last few hours, Bulls calling teams to unload contracts, trying to create space to sign Dwyane Wade. Wade is serious about them."

Does this mean they also rescind their offer to Rondo?

Don't think Gar cares.

Word is that they have a deal for Calderon and working on a deal to dump Dunleavy.

That would be a bizarre lineup with Rondo, Wade, Butler, Mirotic, and Lopez. (Not that it makes a ton more sense without Wade, but still...)

Might be good locker room guys, coming from winning teams.

But the Wolves need to make some sort of move to get that last piece. They'll be a fun team to follow again but it's getting to the point where it might be hard to make a Rubio deal and still be able to land a vet point guard to hold down the fort while Dunn learns the ropes.

All the good shooters (who could plausibly start/play starter minutes) they could have pursued are all gone. Gonna have to wait for the cap to go up again next year, where (hopefully) one season under Thibbs has made this a slightly more attractive place to sign.

He could fit with Thibs. And still two years left on deal after this year so not a must to sell now.

Could see this coming when he played well as a starter early in the season when Barnes was hurt. Good for him to get some more playing time and more money than the Dubs could give him.

Bulls getting rid of Calderon & Dunleavy, which is good news. Still seems like BarfPacks have no plan for the future, but I kinda like this signing.

It'll be weird seeing Rondo & Wade in Bulls uniforms.

He's played SF a lot and did some last year when E'Twaun Moore was starting. Butler usually guards the opposing teams' 3's anyways. Some might say it's his more natural position.

the sticking point was Wade wanting a three year deal. Pretty nuts this was about dollars, especially since Wade was the Heat's best player last year, considering how much he's slowed down compared to when he was in his prime.

I suppose Riles must have seen Wade's knee exploding this season in the tea leaves.

He let Deng walk, Bosh is likely finished and so he figures why risk the long-term outlook for the short-term buck? While I think Wade would have sold tickets, deserved loyalty and as of last year was still their top guy, $50M is a lot of money and it puts you in a holding pattern. They got that veteran money off the books, now they just have two big contracts (which are relatively desirable in trades) and Winslow on a rookie deal. My first instinct was like yours and I even low key argued about that they should keep him earlier today. But I trust Riles has a plan. Right now, this looks bad but in a year or two it could have some serious silver lining.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Bases on past achievements, When it's obvious hes can't produce to that level

And that's not even a diss lol, bulc ya'll were okay with it with kobe.

I think this works out best for the heat. Build around Whiteside and Winslow and whatever you get from bosh is geavy...but hopefully that situation works itself out.

I think this worked out perfectly for miami.

You think riles is worried about that fickle fan base? Lol?

They'll be back as soon as riles builds another contender

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

This will get us a 6 seed and probably a 1st round upset of we the north only to get beaten by the knicks or Boston in the second round. Lol

It's why I never can complain about a GM being fired seemingly prematurely because you simply can't trust a GM on the hot seat to think of the team first and themselves second. Either you trust your GM or you find a new one. GMs trying to save their job almost never pans out.

Still falls in with our now obvious 2 keys to the summer: 1) Add a good veteran presence 2) Keep a max slot for next summer.

We also had about 12 million to go before hitting the cap floor and will not sacrifice our max slot for next season. Calderon fits all our summer plans...serviceable, great teammate veteran cuts 7.3 off the cap floor for one season. There's no negative there.

As I've said...our summer plan is blatantly clear and it's what Mitch + Luke have been reiterating multiple times: 1) develop the team which in part is done by having a solid veteran presence around them 2) keep enough salary cap to have a max slot for next summer.

Calderon accomplishes both of those things while getting us closer to the cap floor and providing needed depth at the 1. What's the downside?

edit: Just read on the AP (which is the latest I've seen on the deal) that there are actually 2 2nd rounders in addition to Calderon. That would be a ridiculous deal lol but Gar basically has himself over the barrel trying to win now.

i like the deal, too, but the point is that lakers nation went from WE DON'T REBUILD, WE RE-LOAD and WE'LL BACK TO COMPETING FOR A TITLE to "Well we did get some future second rounders in the deal" and "For $70M we get a good presence in the locker room."

you don't think a lot of people in the fan base are still somewhere in that latter category? those people are pissed and DGAF that the move pays off in some marginal way that means nothing toward anything meaningful. i get that. it may be unreasonable, but i get it.

Welp, it ain’t where you’re from and all that. We’re obviously spoiled but we can only hold on to our history so much. Small, incremental improvements should have been the goal early on instead of swinging for the fences at junk balls the way we did while we relied far too heavily on that history.

>you don't think a lot of people in the fan base are still

Well… Ryan is usually pretty level headed about things. On one hand that makes his reaction completely understandable and forgivable but it’s also puzzling considering this is a good move for this particular team by any measure. Either way his reaction is totally understandable as an emotional outburst and entirely forgivable. LA2 is just trying to reel him back from the window.

As a true blue (purple) fan I wish more diehard fans would be a little more reasonable so many people are basically expecting water from a rock. Our history should give us hope for the future, not make us stubbornly delusional about the present.

There are families like mine, who were raised off food stamps and WIC because the parent is a lazy, unmotivated meth addicted baby factory who pops out a new kid every couple of years and welfare is just a way of life.

Then there’s the family who lost a job or two and just needs to bridge the gap while they figure things out.  That’s the family you’re talking about. That’s basically the Lakers after the Dwight/Nash season where it was like FUCK, what now? We had a lil savings, decent credit, thought we’d be alright, and then we weren’t.

I’d say we’re the family where things didn’t quite work out the way they hoped. The one where the hard part is over and we can see the framework of a brighter future coming into focus. We basically just wrapped that associates degree and are about to hit the job market to see if our chosen major will pay off. Who knows what the job market holds, but we have something resembling the bare bones structure it takes to get into that working middle class in the not too distant future.

Basically we’re in that place where the worst of it looks to be over and we shouldn’t be tripping off that EBT card anymore because we’ve worked to reposition ourselves and have solid prospects for the immediate and long term future.

So no, I don't really care. I could even understand Laker fans reactions after last year when we still had Kobe and were trying to get meetings with big FA's. This off-season has been a complete 180 with the aims being clear and obvious, with this move falling exactly into line.

It's not my priority to try and make common ground with unreasonable thoughts.

Westbrook and who else?

Further, how has the “sign big name free agents!” strategy worked out so far?

Is it wise to bank on that again?

Because I think it’s better to plug some holes and flesh out some veteran leadership and role players to support our youth…. Which is what we’ve done.

It's like people haven't looked back at the past years and realized what the issue is...you need to gain some traction in the market by actually showing improvement with your record. With a young team, a key platform for that is through your veteran presence.

IDGAF, the Lakers can make every bad decision there is to be made and I'd be thrilled, obviously. But looking at it objectively, I do not see the urgency to spend this money. Crawford is signed. Black is signed. Randle and Russell are under contract for next year, so is Nance. So why not roll the cap room over into next year to see what is there between the FA and trade markets? I just don't see the wisdom in spending the money on Mozgov and Deng. Deng is a good teammate, but he is in decline. Four years? Balk at that. Someone else was gonna give it to him? Let them. Mozgov I kind of like as a player but that's a very big investment. Maybe it's more justifiable because he could do well with more minutes, he's not ancient, he's seven foot+, etc. But it's still suspect and the two in tandem really seems hasty to me. You never know when the right opportunity opens up. If I were them, I'd have done more stuff like this Calderon deal. Get guys on short terms who have been around and pick up futures in the process. These are two really big, long commitments.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

They're both smart, gritty players. They can figure it out.

If floor spacers are needed play smaller or get some shooters outside of McBuckets.

The only problem I can definitely see is one or both not being committed to defending.

If they defend, and Jimmy is defending they'll be good. Might even get a home playoff series.

I am not a huge Ezeli guy but I think he is a *great* fit for Portland. They need rebounders, guys who can clog up the paint and crash the offensive boards. He is that. If he makes that money, it's like DeAndre Jordan's RFA deal, which was a *great* value. I don't think he is as good as DJ but you put that salary on the current scale, pfft, great deal and a great fit.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Like… I’m cool with what we did on balance, but looking at deals like Ezili, Afflalo, Lin makes me a little annoyed. All very solid deals all the way around, fit the needs we had as good or better than what we did at better terms than we paid.

I feel like we jumped the gun a little and gave out too much.

Afflalo went to the Kings of all places.

Thing is I LOVE the deng signing. I just don't like the two extra years.

I refuse to believe Festus wouldn't talk to Luke, but then there's always the possibility that Luke was like NAH SON, YOU DON'T WANT FESTERING FESTUS and that was that.

So there's a lot of speculation in between and I can't front on acting quickly and paying a premium to make sure we got some quality guys before the well dried up. I definitely grasp the realities but seeing some of these other deals makes me a little envious is all.

I’m just looking at the player + cost + years equations in general.

I’ve accepted the premium we had to pay but these shorter deals at less money was the strategy I was hoping we would employ, and I just wonder if we could have done a little better than we did. It’s obviously a fruitless endeavor but it’s nagging at me lol.

Festus Ezeli's Blazers deal is actually $7.4 million the first year with a team option of $7.33 million in the second year, a source said.

That would have been reasonable under the old cap. Nice get by the Blazers.

They just invested almost half of their yearly salary cap in a starting backcourt of Lin, Tyler Johnson, and Allen Crabbe that is probably best served as being a backup backcourt.

Or is Marks a plant for the Celtics?

Those guys salaries arent the worst with the new cap and its really the only way Brooklyn can get out of purgatory in the foreseeable future because of their draft pick situation.

They have to take some gambles and try to swing for the fences a bit. At least here they are taking guys who have started some games and played well when on the court.

Looks like they will run a "small lineup"

With Lin at 6'3 playing pg
Tyler at 6'4 playing sg
and Crabbe at 6'5 playing SF

Brook will pick and roll and theyll have to figure out the 4.

Keep it mind theres a chance that Tyler and Crabbe get matched here.
Marks has engineered the poison pill for Miami (who now doesnthave to worry about Wade) and a Trade Kicker and incentives for Crabbe which puts pressure on Portland.

just turned 24, plenty of upside, plus defender, good shooter...

can easily avg 15-17 ppg per game next year, and that's what 15-17 ppg free agents are getting... the Nets have to overpay or nobody is going to play there at all, may as well gamble on young upside...

Portland very well may match

I like Allen Crabbe but he's not worth that much, even in the new market. I think Portland was a great situation for him; BK? Not so much. I think he might struggle more when asked to create his own offense instead of feeding off of Dame and CJ.

I don't get how Turner fits in Portland and with Lin and Tyler Johnson, I just think the Nets might have been better off holding onto their space than sinking another big chunk of change in a nice but not THAT good player in Crabbe. (Although I like these guys in terms of fantasy hoops next year.)

not a terrible move for either side. Kerr didn't turn to speights even with bogut out so he's probably looking for playing time and shots in LAC...to set up a pay day next season.

Really though he should be motivated and he's about the million times better than the Ryan Hollins or Jeff Ayres signing I was expecting.

Though apparently when Bob Myers was interviewed by local radio today, he said Speights agent apparently thought the West signing was going to cut into Speights limited PT.

But, hey, vaya con Dios Mo Buckets. He was my third favorite player on the team. Truly sucks he's going to the Clippers, our closest thing to a division rival now.

change this season.

He's not really a 5 and ya'll don't really run a big at the 4 so it makes perfect sense for him to bounce.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

EDIT: Totally spaced on them getting Zaza.

But the change would be that Ezeli and Bogut are gone. Speights in next in line at the center spot.

But I do agree that it seems like Kerr didn't have confidence in Speights and they don't play many C minutes so makes sense to head elsewhere.

Speights may have improved on defense, but he wasn't going to be able to do that. Kerr tried with Ezeli, but he completely shit the bed in Game 7.

Speights doesn't do well in grind it out type of games. He's much better when they can keep it moving. Which the Dubs did not do in Game 7.

In response to Reply # 244

He played more when Ezeli was hurt and we could put him at the 5 for some good offense in short spurts and create some match-up problems at the 5 due to his outside shooting ability.

>He's not really a 5 and ya'll don't really run a big at the 4
>so it makes perfect sense for him to bounce.

We started the season using him as a back-up 4 and he was awful. Couldn't play D and got into constant foul trouble, so when he wasn't hitting his shots, he wasn't contributing anything. His season turned the corner as soon as we started using him as a back-up 5, even though, as you said, he clearly isn't one.

But yeah, he'll get more consistent tic with the Clippers, backing-up Griffin and maybe even DJ. I just hate the fucking Clippers.

My availability is probably about as attractive to them as those three are to other NBA teams.

Rudy is what he is at this point. McLemore's a dummy. Kostas might be helpful somewhere though.

Once he got past the tanking. He was shrewd with his trades but would he have been able to take the team to the next level.

The Nets were one of the most short-sighted All-In moves in NBA history.

The Kings somehow went from bad to worse with The Vivek and Vlade Show they've got going now. They need to go the first Bulls reboot route (Brand, Crawford, Artest), dump everyone and start over. But preferably, do a better job with their assets than Krause and Co. did.

Mitch went all in as well with the Nash and Dwight deals...but he at least considered the possibility that it could blow up. Obviously it did but I can't even imagine not having any reward or building blocks after these past years. The dread and hopelessness that washed over me as I was imagining that scenario just really made me realize how shitty it must be as a Nets fan lol

The cap went up significantly and teams have to spend in order to meet their cap floors. We've always seen GMs over-spend when they had cap space available and this is the most collective cap space in the history of the league...hence, the contracts.

That hurts for them. Seems liek most Nets fans thought theyd get at least 1 of 2. It also shows the deals werent as nuts as people thought

I know everyone on this board hated the deal, but its absolutely what the Nets have to do sooner or later seeing as they dont have a high lottery through 2019.

They have to take advantage of teh rise in cap to overspend on guys with potential.

I mean whats the other option?

Sign a good vet? No good vets will come
Even the solid vets are ring chasing so youre left giving a guy liek Jordan Hill a huge 1 year deal to get to the salary floor.

Or I guess you can spend the 15-20 million on Duck Sauce or Kent Bazemore who are both in their late 20s with way less upside.

Solid signing for cheap.

Guess they'll look for a SF who can shoot to fill the last spot (assuming Payne is gone.)

Great deal of the Pelicans. Really like Jones there. Think he could be great in Gentry's system.
