"Which active American boxer is the biggest star?"

There are good young American fighters like Crawford, Spence and Porter, but we don't have a star. I'd argue that Broner and Garcia are the biggest names of active US fighters right now.

Do you mean star like household name to casual sports fans?

If so......I doubt those people even know Broner.

There are some good boxers and good fights to be made. Whether they'll happen or not is another story.

Crawford's fighting style and family should make him a star. He just needs the right opponent.

Algieri may have fought PPV recently, but just about anyone can be a B side. He's barely a PBC a side. He's deathly not as big as Broner or Garcia.

In response to Reply # 11

I'm legitimately very excited for this fight and I've been on the Spence bandwagon since when nobody knew he existed, so it's kinda in my interest to prop up Algieri as a star.

i still blame hip-hop.

I think he would be the A side in negotiations against anybody from 140 to 154. He has been on the undercard of one of the biggest pay per view attractions in recent years (Mayweather/Alvarez) and has remained undefeated. He is also an Al Haymon fighter.

Cotto could be 2nd if we are talking about appeal.

Crawford is the next big thing. He just needs a dance partner to get to that next level. Although I think Ward is the best fighter in the sport, his style doesn't necessarily lend itself to casual fight fans paying to see him fight.
