It's all about the money, Senior Dukie....

DAT excerpt:

"First of all, unless the Heat renounce their rights to Dwyane Wade, NBA salary cap rules will preclude them from offering Whiteside his full market value. Miami would be able to offer between $8-9 million, which is at least half of what the kid can get on the open market. On a full max deal, Whiteside would be looking at a $90 million payday, and nobody walks away from a $90 million payday.

So he’s a goner, one way or another. And the Heat know it."

---

Basically, they looking at Whiteside like, "U NOT WORTH NO $90 MIL...We can find someone already on a contract that can block shots and rebound and get something for u before u bolt...."

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Lakers potentially shopping Nick Young, this years protected pick, Tarik Black, and a worn pair of Jeanie Buss thigh-highs and panties for Cuz.

Sources tell me Willz+Randle+Nance+a pound of Jimmy's best Uncut Colombian=Big Cuz in purple and gold.

One thing is for certain: the Lakers might possibly potentially perhaps be willing to make a phone call and discuss some combination of players, picks, trade exceptions and other assets allowable under the CBA to pry Big Cuz from the Kings cold, dead corpse.

Even if the Heat don't think they can re-sign Whiteside, you don't give him and Winslow up for a part time player in Howard.

This would be true^^^^

If we didn't account for the fact that since his back issues, Howard has not been that defensive, rebounding monster....

U know what I notice on this site a lot? People tend to go SEE, SEE, WE WAS RIGHT ABOUT ______________!!!!!

But the truth is, Howard was a franchise player in Orlando...And he def. pulled his weight early on in Houston (People need to check out the numbers that BAMMA put up in the playoffs with the Rockets...That fool was about the most dependable player on the squad...

But injuries happen to big men...And Howard is no difference....But just because they r ready to trade him (BTW, the rumor is HE's asking for the trade...) doesn't mean we need to start going all revisionist history and shit...lol

In response to Reply # 24

..like you said, he was their "franchise player" right?

the go-to guy, the leader of the team, right?

everything he claims to want, he had while he was there. the only problem is that when they finally made it to the finals (after takin' out lebron & the cavs in 6), they got destroyed by the lakers.

what's the the convenient excuse?

his back?

looked fine to everyone else.

his teammates?

nope.

i'm not frontin' on dwight howard's career at all. the fact of the matter is that he can put up solid numbers, but not when it counts the most.

..durant is certainly a franchise player. no, he hasn't won a championship (yet), but i'd wager that he has a better shot at winning one before howard.

durant made it to the finals and lost (like howard), but didn't pitch a fit and blame his team/org for coming up short. he accepted the loss and continued working to improve.

how did howard respond to that loss in the finals?

• complaints about team/org.
• whining about injuries
• created media spectacle (esp when it came to trade demands/talks)

he did everything he could to get out of orlando, claiming that he wanted a fresh start to show & prove that he could win a ring as the 1st option.

admittedly, he was never a good fit for the lakers (*not including the potential of the chris paul rescinded trade, but even then he wouldn't have been the 1st option).

bottom line: he's not winning a championship as the 1st option.

It's like all sense is thrown out the window when folks discuss Howard...lol

The hate for that dude is unreal....

Why did he leave Orlando? Because he saw he was going nowhere fast with that team....Like anybody (see Bron) he wanted to join up with a winning franchise...It just so happens that the Lakers were not that team....lol...

..again, nothing against him or his talent.

my point:

he's not a leader

as far as i'm concerned, a franchise player is someone that can not only post up impressive numbers, but also lead your team to a championship. clearly, howard isn't in that discussion.

*please note: this entire discussion surrounds his (alleged) preference to being the #1 option. that preference hasn't worked out very well for him.

Whiteside for D12 is a good deal for the Rockets. Whiteside is younger and has more upside. Besides he pouts less than D12 anyway. Get something for D12 before he bolts.

Riley doesn't play the loyalty card & only overpays for prime talent. Whiteside must be an absolute headcase if Riley is considering shipping him out for broken-down Dwight's max contract, lol.

A trade that would make sense involving Dwight is swapping him for Horford.

OKC should definitely offer Ibaka (if the numbers work, I'm not up on that) and someone else...maybe Adams or Waiters or whomever if they can't get him straight up. But if they could that's a score.

Not sure where Dwight's going to go, but if I'm a team that's in the upper echelon...I don't even look at this guy. He's not worth the gamble.

I'm wondering where Markieff Morris is going too.

You cannot expect a big man to be a defensive stopper and then not let him eat on the offensive end.

I can understand Harden but when Ariza and Thornton are above him too.

I don't trust anybody on the Rockets except Dwight.

Yes, he's a goofy dickhead.

Yes, he should have learned some post moves by now.

But if it's a big game, I know Dwight is gonna play and control the paint better than any center in the league since the 90's.

I think his health should be a concern at this point in his career. I'd be leery of moving young assets for him unless you're on the brink of winning a chip and he pushes you towards a ring. He's been banged up while on the Lakers and now with Houston.

at this point.

But if they called say the Wizards and said we'll take Gortat and Beal for Howard and T-Jones or any other 4 on that team, I'd say do that shit.

Or any deal like that. Upside is too strong if you plan on being kinda close within the next 3-4 years.

Cuz even when he's hurt, he works and outworks other able bodied bigs.

He is only taking 8 shots a game in that "analytical" offense and is getting 13 and 12 on 60% shooting.

He is on a bad squad for his talent, but far from washed up.

Houston should trade him to Brooklyn for Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson's expiring.

that his ceiling don't come anywhere near what teague is right today.

He's an undersized 2 guard...chances are he'll never be a starter in this league, let alone a borderline allstar.

He's the only long term deal that they really need to move. Such a dumb addition.

I liked 'Reke back in the day but he has never learned to be as effective when he's not on ball. Maybe if he landed in Boston he could have succeeded as Lil Zeake has (especially with his improved 3-ball this year) but he just strikes me as a guy who's just not good enough to have as much influence on the offense as he needs to be effective.

The Pels just need to clean house. I've never been wild about their roster but it seems like they keep adding more square pegs for round holes.

i'm telling you, man, reke's destiny is 'ball-dominant second-unit

he just ain't met his morpheus yet. one of these days he'll get w/

Reke at this point is a rich man's Evan Turner w/ MCW following their footsteps.

I could see Reke end up w/ the Bucks in exchange for Mayo's expiring contract & OKC could use him since they are starting a bum like Roberson since they already traded for a low IQ player in Dion Butters.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a smaller move (maybe throw a 2nd rounder and Lee for Hibbert or something.) But Ainge usually either asks for too much for what we have or would rather just wait for a star like Love, Boogie, or Blake.

I'm a little nervous because he was a big fan of Tyreke, who I don't think fits in Boston right now.

Whiteside would be a nice addition but not sure he'd be willing to give up enough for Riley to make a deal with Boston.

Odds are he waits until the offseason though. We'll have a shitload of cap space and three first round picks. It wouldn't stun me if Lee, Sully, and a non-Nets pick was on the move before the deadline but seems more likely that he gets a star in the offseason than in a rushed deadline deal now.

I don't think it's as crazy as some say (although I'm sure McHale probably didn't vouch for Howard much) but apparently the Dwight to Boston rumors are BS.

"Apparently Danny Ainge has not lost his mind.

Amid reports the Celtics were pursuing Rockets center Dwight Howard, one had reason to ponder that possibility, but multiple league sources have told the Herald there are no such talks.

Team A calling Team B in recent weeks to ask if it would give up assets A, B and C for Player A — and being told, "No" — does not a negotiation make. Rather it makes for a pretty quick and fruitless phone call.

It's clear the Rockets would like there to be a market for Howard, and word is they've made efforts to move him. But it doesn't appear teams are lining up for a 30-year-old center with physical issues who, in his 12th season, is a liability in crunch time because of his inability to consistently hit free throws.

Said one GM from the west, "He's not the same player, and he has serious back and knee issues. And he's unrestricted this summer."

They need a legit star not a washed up All-Star. A trade that makes sense for both parties is swapping Dwight for Horford if they don't plan on re-signing Hoford & if Dwight is willing to sign an extension.

Dwight and a pick to ATL
Horford to C's
Teague and something to HOU

Skill-wise, Dwight fits the Celtics. They need someone to hit the boards and defend the paint. Attitude-wise, it's questionable. In terms of window, my guess is that, if we got Dwight, Ainge would put for a win now situation and look to add another veteran.

But, yeah, I'm glad the rumors aren't true.

to treating him like a star and giving him his touches on the offensive end. If you are willing to do that, its worth having him on board imo.

He can't carry it every night like he did in ORL but he can def be the 2nd option on a good team like Mia Shaq.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Washington trades Beal, Porter, Nene (expiring contract) and a pick.

Clippers give up Blake, Stephenson.

Clips then use Nene's expiring contract and the pick to bolster the front court with someone like Rudy Gay....

Beal's good not great and the injury issues are a red flag. If he had a year left on his rookie deal and the Clippers could add talent while keeping cap space open to go after a superstar, there's be a chance.
MAYBE you get him on a Curry-like bargain because of the injuries but given the state of the SG position, I think someone overpays him this offseason.

Porter IMO doesn't have the trade value/results to push the needle to make it worth giving up Blake.

The Clippers are looking at a return like Durant. They won't settle for Beal/Porter, especially during the season.

Not quite sure what makes sense.

Gallo makes sense for Clippers but then the Nuggets would likely have to move Faried.

Faried, Barton, and Rox pick? Would that be enough for the Clippers?

Seems like a third team might have to be involved so Faried and Nurkic could be the key pieces going out for Denver.

Also, a little odd given that Griffin and Malone just got into it in November.

The Nuggets definitely have the pieces to make a trade but you'd think they'd make a deal with someone looking for a big since they have three solid Eurobigs and Faried.

They lose in the first round? He's gone from both and the team gets a huge makeover.

They lose in the second? He's not GM anymore and the team gets a huge makeover.

They make it to the conference finals, he's safe. The team probably still goes through a makeover though, and he'll be expected to deliver again the season after that.

A healthy Clippers team matches up against the Worriers as well as any team in the league & they are the last team to beat them in a postseason series (2014).

Rox and Blazers picks are Top 14 protected.

Their pick should be good even with Griffin in tow for the back half of the season.

I'd be surprised if Denver took on Stephenson since he and Malone seem like a terrible mix.

Feels like more smoke than fire but who knows...

The Wiz aren't going to land KD so they might have to settle for a knockoff version of KD in FatMelo who might be willing to surrender his no trade clause to move back to the DMV area.

The Wiz are probably fed up w/ Beal & they haven't committed to him long term so might as well flip him before he turns into Eric Gordon.

The Wiz can play Melo at the 4 instead of Dudley & try to replicate a hybrid of the Dubs/Bucks with the Otto/Oubre wings. Garrett Temple is already starting over Beal so they won't miss him (Neal can play spot minutes & Alan Anderson should be returning after the ASG break).

Riley has a track record managing egos/weird personalities, immature players & hot heads along with an appetite for blockbuster deals. So, maybe Whiteside/Winslow + Deng/Birdman's expiring contract (might have to throw in a pick) for Boogie + Butler/Anderson (to fill the void at the wing).

The Kings could just fire Karl & start mortgaging off their vets along with WCS since he can't play w/ Whiteside.

Whiteside
Olynyk
Winslow

Rumored targets are Young Thad, Manimal, and Markieff Morris/PJ Tucker.

They have the worse of the Knicks/Denver pick to play with. Not sure what else they really have to offer and my guess is that deals will have to include Patrick Patterson and a guy like Scola to even the money off (can't imagine they'd deal Joseph since they'd be without a backup PG.) I like Joseph; didn't realize he signed for 4 years, 30 million.

Biyambo can actually play center & Jonas is a terrible defender so they won't lose much if they get a PF that can score instead of someone like Faried who's like a richman's Biyambo. I'm not sure Markieff works when they play Carroll at the 4 along w/ CoJo/DeRozan/Lowry since he isn't a rim protector.

They can acquire Horford by essentially swapping him for Jonas: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=znef6mj

The Hawks can pair Jonas w/ Millsap who is a very good defender & they also have Splitter who's a defensive minded center. Jonas gives them a post presence & a solid rebounder which is what they are lacking. He's also young enough (23) to be part of a rebuilding team if they want to go that route.

In response to Reply # 113

-Lowry is going to be washed up in 2 years b/c of the way he plays & his injury history.

-DeRozan might leave at the end of the season & sign w/ the Lakers

-The Cavs are vulnerable this season b/c of all the issues they have had on/off the court.

Unless they are planning on starting over with a new core the Lowry/DeRozan tandem isn't ever going to be any better than this season.

Just read about this...And reportedly this ain't the normal Isola special. There is some teeth to this from what I'm being told by some of my folk....

Melo to Cleveland...Love to Boston, picks and players to the Knicks....It makes too much sense. A lot would have to happen to make this work. But with Melo's recent All Star weekend comments (he basically just said the Knicks need another star and that he couldn't deal with another losing season) would not be shocked......

If I'm Melo I'm working overtime to make it happen....lol....

the Cavs really don't need anything IMO.
all they have to do is get back into April 2015 form and REMAIN HEALTHY.

adding someone like Melo at this stage is going to fuck it up.
and I'm a Melo fan. Cavs would be best, if making any move, to find someone who can take LeBron over to the 4, not necessarily a superstar.

U sure about that? They will def. beat up on the East...But THIS Cleveland team still has issues beating the elite West teams....One thing we know about Melo. He's not afraid of the big moment.

I think Melo is perfect for the Cavs. He would be a nightmare at the 4 spot (the position where he does his most damage)....He would be a catch and shoot monster too on THAT team....And he wouldn't see any double teams....The only issue I would have is that bulky knee. Is it really that serious? But on the real, Love's injury issues also gives me pause....

Fuck it. I would do it....

Melo turns 32 in May.
Melo has knee problems.
KLove is younger than Melo.
KLove doesn't complain as much as Melo.
KLove is a better fit playing next to Bron.
Melo's contract is an albatross the longer he keeps playing.
We end up with too many max players.

At that point we might as well try to land Jimmy Butler since we playing 2K GM. As a lifelong Cavs fan I hate the way GM BRON avoids responsibility for all this. When Melo breaks down in a year people use the same "CAVS DIDN'T GET BRON HELP" excuse despite the fact that we have four max or near max players under contract.

Not a huge fan of Victor or Vooch. But not surprising that it isn't a real offer; the addition of Frye and his contract throws it off. Bulls would have to give up someone else.

Butler is a beast. They should be building around him.

Maybe holla at the Heat & offer Tobias for Whiteside/Deng (http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=j29tg82). If Whiteside doesn't re-sign then they could just use the cap space to go after Ezeli. (Scott Skiles might punch Whiteside in the face before it's all said & done)

Heat can start Winslow & play Tobias at the 4 b/c Amare ain't the answer.

The Magic have a lot of decision to make since Fournier/Hezonja/Dipo share minutes & Aaron Gordon/Tobias are both tweeners. If they want to re-sign Fournier then they have to trade Dipo.

Trading Dipo/Vuc for Butler doesn't make sense unless they are planning on letting Fournier walk b/c there will still be a log jam (Fournier is going to get paid so they can't just use him as a backup unless they want their own version of Iggy). They would be stupid to let him walk since they can trade him at the trade deadline & get value for him as he's a restricted free-agent.

The only Bulls/Magic trade (involving Butler) that makes sense is Dipo/Fournier/Frye for Butler. The Bulls get a decent replacement for Butler & a legit wing along a stretch 5 to run the high PnR w/ Rose. Magic can start Payton/Butler/Hezonja.

In response to Reply # 0

The Bulls are the most tight lipped organization in the league. So when trade rumors get out, in my opinion, they're usually leaked by the team or just fake. So while I'd like for this Gasol news to have legs, I don't believe it.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba-trade-deadline-buzz--clippers-move-closer-toward-channing-frye-deal-023959300.html

The Chicago Bulls are aggressively shopping All-Star forward Pau Gasol, league sources told The Vertical.

Gasol, 35, can opt out of his contract this summer and become an unrestricted free agent, and Bulls general manager Gar Forman seems determined to move him before Thursday's trade deadline with the hope of bringing back value.

Gasol is expected to decline the player option on the $7.4 million owed him in 2016-17.

Gasol is averaging 17 points and 10.9 rebounds for the struggling Bulls.

Disappointed in Collison. I hope he doesn't think he's getting anything but backup minutes most anywhere else in the league.

At this point, I'm not sure what value either of those guys have.

http://www.masslive.com/celtics/index.ssf/2016/02/boston_celtics_trade_rumors_20_194.html

From Jackie MacMullan

"I do believe that Danny is going to make another run at Kevin Love because we know that he's coveted Love all along," MacMullan said. "The one thing that I think is interesting about Love, everybody is down on him -- well, he stretches the floor, which we know Brad Stevens likes, right? Well, he can't defend and I don't know how you guys feel about real plus/minus, I tend to be a fan and I am sure the Celtics have things that are much more sophisticated than what we use at ESPN for real plus/minus, but just for the heck of it, I looked it up this morning on Kevin Love. He's 12th overall in the league. That is pretty good.

"His defensive numbers right now -- his defensive plus/minus is better than his offensive plus/minus. I think Kevin Love gets a raw deal when it comes to the Cleveland Cavaliers and maybe why they aren't performing maybe as well as they should. In fact, we know Kyrie Irving is coming off some pretty severe injuries, look at his numbers, they are horrible. His defensive real plus/minus is minus 3.22. The only point guard who plays significantly in the league that is worse are guys like Brandon Knight and actually Derrick Rose. I think Kevin Love gets a raw deal.

"I would be thrilled if the Celtics could bring Kevin Love here, I just don't think it's going to happen. If I am Cleveland, I'm the best team in the East and we all know every team -- Golden State, San Antonio, they are one injury away from being vulnerable, I'm standing pat for the most part."

Kevin Love replacement?

Would love a white boy carousel of Randerson to CLE, Love to Boston, and Kelly to Pels. Well, I wouldn't love it but it would make me chuckle.

My guess is they think hes capped out as a backup pg and are gonna roll the dice on this playoff run and hope that Ty Lawson can get back to starting pf form of just a season ago.

My guess is he will when he gets the ball back in his hands full time.

Koufos, McLemore and more is their offer right now. Which doesn't seem like much of an offer at all.

Not sure if makes much sense as Pau is likely to be gone at the end of the season but this is the Kings were talking about.

Thing is, running a majority of our stuff thru him has resulted in a 26 ranked offense. He's also a huge liability on defense. Them feets don't move.

It's seems like we're giving up on this season by trading Pau, but we're kind of not because both the offense and defense won't get much worse. Some youth and athleticism would be a nice addition to an otherwise sterile group.

Since Pau is gone next year the Bulls almost have to do this. Especially if picks are involved. And McLemore may not actually suck once he gets away from that swirling vortex of shit that is the Kings organization.

Team A: you got two bigs that don't fit. What would it take to get one?
Sixers: *blah, blah blah*
Team A: ok *hangs up*

Stories go from gauging interest, to shopping, to deal in place. Then the deadline passes and nothing happens. Then the stories will be asking the players how they feel about being shopped.

NBA buyout crop has potential to be interesting if no trades materialize today for Kevin Martin, David Lee, J.J. Hickson, Roy Hibbert, etc.
